I'm glad I'm paranoid regarding the reviewer: I thought if [Member Name Removed] filed a complaint against me with the BBB, she would do so with Angie's List. I am not mentally ill, and I decry her characterization in this regard. For almost 20 years I've kept records of anyone I've ever worked for, including [Member Name Removed]. But in her case, as a few others, I put a note saying 'avoid,' so the reviewer does not need to worry about me contacting her again. I categorically deny that I called the city to complain about [Member Name Removed]’s lawn being in need of care. In early July, I told her I was quitting, and she said she'd find someone else to cut her grass, so she has herself to blame here. She does not owe me money. nor do I owe her any continued services. She does not want me on her property anymore anyway, so I wouldn't come back, even at the request of her landlord. Part of the problem was getting into a situation I hadn't been in before: working for a student, who wanted a discount, and would be out of town for over a month. I apologize to [Member Name Removed]- I shouldn't have been working for her in the first place. Because I usually cut grass by contract. I should have given her my contract in the first place, so she could have rejected it! For in a letter to me postmarked 7-14-14, she said she was only going to pay me anymore at the time of the second cutting, for the first cutting. This is not how I run my business for residential customers, as one of the provisions of my contract is that they pay immediately, as soon as the grass cutting is done. This is one way I allege she was trying to take advantage of me. A couple of other ways she tried to take advantage of me, was 1. wanting a student discount - as $16/hr. ($15 + $1 tax), even though I found out later that she was also working. I only give discounts to Senior citizens, people on disability, or charities like churches. 2. I was undercharging her, therefore, and should have charged $20/hr, which at times could have been more: because of the difficulty of the cutting- using a weedwhacker, because the grass grew so high so fast., cutting on a hill, or possibly having to cut 3 times instead of 2 times a month, which she couldn't afford. She has a history of taking advantage of people:by her own words. Having people charge her $10/hr. in 2014 for grass cutting is outrageous! I wasn't going out of my way, to drop off bills for her. I go grocery shopping at a plaza, which is only a block from her house. But there was some confusion in her going out of town, I allege. She had originally told me that she'd be gone from June 5 to July 1, and I made a written note about this. When she wasn't back in town around the first of the month, I started to get worried. I was persistent in calling her, because she didn't have the courtesy apparently to answer my calls promptly,(none of which were over 10 minutes, I allege; usually not over 2-3 minutes). Then she finally told me that she'd be back in town around July 15. That's when I quit. (I had already done one cutting about a week before she finally phoned me, but I didn't want anymore hassle with her. I found her too unstable to work with.) Regarding her landlord, who is apparently taking her side now, he proved to be thoroughly irresponsible and disreputable. At the start, I had sent him copies of my handyman and yardwork resumes; and he told me that [Member Name Removed] was 'an Indian princess.' (I.e., bratty? wanting to have her own way?) I wanted to do some concrete repair to her front steps, while she was away and sent an estimate to his residence. He sent it back to me, and said to put in [Member Name Removed]’s mailbox. But at no time did he ever acknowledge that he had even looked at it. And at the end, when I sent him a note with my grass cutting contract, saying I'd only cut grass anymore for his tenants by contract only, he 'returned it to sender.' By mid-June, I couldn't contact him at all, and he never returned my calls. I should have given him a copy of my contract from the start, which he probably would have rejected, so that I could have avoided all the subsequent hassle with him and his tenant, but I was desperate to get work. At least, I found out how bad he and his tenant were - to avoid!
