We chose this contractor based on the quality of finished work he had done for two friends. We were impressed by his imaginative solutions to design questions, the competitiveness of his bid, and his helpfulness in selecting tile, fixtures, etc. He was very helpful in preparing our former home for sale in September, 2008. Contractor was friendly and full of promises, saying that he only did one job at a time. This was appealing to us. Contractor began work in August, 2008, which was later than promised as he finished work on another job that kept extending. In the beginning, he returned phone calls promptly. Our main problem was the contractor?s inconsistent work and lack of time on the job. For much of the job, contractor only spent 12-15 hours weekly on the job. Frequent interruptions led to long waits for parts of the project to be completed. Despite his initial and repeated promises, he took other jobs that interfered with our work. When he did work, contractor preferred irregular hours, starting late in the morning or early afternoon, then working into the evening. He used a stream of excuses for not showing up. He often asked us for an advance in his payment saying he would work more hours the next week. We would give him money on good faith but we were lucky if he put in 3 consecutive days, working only 5 or 6 hours per day. Bathroom remodeling (install new shower and tile floor; replace fixtures; build vanity) began in January, 2009, with a target finishing date by the end of January. Contractor worked through January, generally around 15 hours per week, but was gone through much of February. He returned in March to finish tiling the floor and shower and installing the toilet. Throughout this time, he repeatedly promised completion of the vanity "this weekend." Vanity and sink were finally installed in July,2009?six months after the target date. Until this time, the first floor bathroom was without a sink. Contractor employed the services of several others. The plumber finished his work promptly, but others were unreliable, and/or did sloppy work. The man who installed the siding & windows would work for a week and then disappear for two, with details of the work remaining unfinished as of June, 2010. We had to call another company to have the siding finished. Work by the contractor's brother, Rick Boeing, who made cabinetry modifications and fabricated counter tops for kitchen and bath, was not completed until much later than "promised". In December, 2008, contractor installed two maple trim panels in kitchen that had been stained with an incorrect stain by his brother. Contractor removed the panels in January, 2009 to have them refinished. In March, 2010 the panels were ?misplaced? and we were asked for more money to replace them. We had already paid $250 for the original panels. We recently hired another cabinet maker to finish the job. Contractor left his tools, pop cans, and coffee cups sitting around our house for weeks without doing any work for us. We felt like we were being used as a storage unit while he did other work cleaning out foreclosed houses. We put up with his unprofessional behavior because his work was so good in the beginning. Towards the end he got sloppy and we have needed to hire other workers to complete or redo some of his work. Contractor has limited organizational skills. He lost receipts, creating disagreements over what had been paid for. He relied on us to keep accounts straight and to stay on top of his workers who didn?t show up when scheduled. He constantly needed to borrow tools because he couldn?t find his. In March, 2010, we had the contractor remove all of his tools from our house. We paid him for his most recent work and ended our dealings with him. The bulk of the work he did for us is beautiful. Contractor is a talented designer and crafts man, but the effort of getting him to work was exhausting.
