Renewal by Andersen of Cincinnati

It was a strategic buy, I needed a door, I did comparative shopping. One company I had gone to that is a big box, Lowe's, they do installations. My installation was beyond the scope of what they typically do. I have a brick construction with a six-foot opening for the door and former home owners had replaced the door and put a five-foot door in it and put filler strips around it. So, until we cut back the sheetrock on the inside there was no way to know how much construction may need to be redone in order to replace the door and I was determined to go back with a full six foot door. So that was beyond the scope of what Lowe's does. So I just watched ads and did shopping and things for another year and saw that Renewal by Andersen was having a sale 30% off, over Labor Day Holiday, so I purchased and ordered the door then and it probably six weeks later that it was installed. It's great, although the product itself has a 20-year warranty and the labor itself a 10-year warranty and so with this company, I did not have to purchase the door and find a separate installer or separate carpenters to do it. So I liked the fact that it was a package deal with extensive warranties, more than you get from most. Very nice workmanship on a lot of it, there is a couple of little things they've got to come back and fix. I paid a little extra to have them repair a crack in the wall, as the sheetrock compound has dried, it has shrunk and they're going to need to retouch that, but they're coming back to do that. But the team of guys, the two that came and removed the old door, their cleanup was great and all that kind of thing. Andersen, Marvin and Pella are probably three of the top quality manufacturers of windows and doors. So they do price higher than some other brands and I honestly had not compared with Pella or Marvin once I saw that Andersen had this sale. I spent about twice as much on this as I did a quote for another general contractor, but we hadn't talked specifics on the door and I'm sure the door was nowhere near the quality of that this one was and would not have the same labor warranty and that kind of thing. So, price is a little expensive, but, again, I guess you get what you pay for. The local people were good, they're coordinating their installations and things through a toll-free number. In fact, I think they're in Indiana. My screen needs to be replaced, it was flawed. The one that was delivered with the door had a flaw in it, which didn't render it unserviceable, but it wasn't as attractive as it might have been and they were going to replace that and then come back and retouch this repair on the wall. They told me when the screen was arriving and it has come in. That was the 18th, but then I haven't had a follow-up. So, I've been feeling I need to call them and find out when we're going to get the rest of this rescheduled. Typically, they'll bring samples with them, they don't typically have a showroom with display like some of the others like the Home Depot or Lowe's or some of the other companies around Cincinnati. Like Champion is a Cincinnati company and they've got a big showroom with a lot of their products and Andersen doesn't have that. Andersen does sell doors by special orders. I know they do through Home Depot. They do primarily new construction, but the renewal division is a separate division from Andersen's new construction products and the renewal division, they have their own people who do the installation, they're factory trained. So it's a separate entity. I really wanted to see products before. I have sold windows and doors in the past, so I didn't want to just look at a couple of little sample items and choose from that. So, they were very responsive. I talked with the manager of the sales office and I was able to meet salesmen out there and spend a good deal of time going through all my questions and pros and cons to determine which was going to suit my needs the best. So that part was good, above and beyond what they normally do, but immediately I'm more knowledgeable than an average consumer when it comes to that kind of stuff too. It was more important for me to see more details on it and they were very compliant with that. So I had a good experience with that.

It was done very efficiently, timely and the quality of the product was great. Quality was topnotch.

A person came by our house and asked if we would like an estimate since a couple of our neighbors are getting theirs. He said it would take about an hour and a half so I scheduled it for Saturday morning. The person came on time and seemed nice. He begin talking about the company and the products, basically explaining how superior their products were compared to others. We liked the products and asked for an estimate. The estimate for 19 windows and a patio door came out to be $41,279 and he said he could lower the price to $33,023 if we sign the contract that day. We were shocked to hear the price as it was much much higher than what we've expected. We were even more shocked when we found out that the average price of an Anderson window was about $500-$1000. That person left a very bad impression of Renewal by Anderson as he took much of our precious time (more than 3 hours) and gave us a ridiculously high quote.

It went pretty well. They came in and measured and then, several weeks later, came back to reinstall the window. I would hire for a future job. I was a little disappointed to find that the wood part of the frame was cracked and they puttied over it. Just found this recently. Have not notified the company yet. Wish they had told me, but guessing it might have meant yet another frame. I will look into it next week.

We had an excellent experience with Renewal by Andersen. We went to their showroom to look at what they had to offer. Rick McConnell greeted us and then explained exactly how the Andersen windows work, how they are made and what options are available. We loved what we saw so Rick scheduled a time to come out to our house so that he could do a rough measure and see what options we wanted and prepare an estimate for us. He came on schedule and spent a good long while talking to us about what would work best for our needs. We decided on double hung windows for the whole house and a special awning window for over the kitchen sink. In the 2 kitchen windows we also chose a special screen called TruScene. It's a beautiful screen made from stainless steel that almost looks like it is not there. Since we have those windows open to look out of all the time having the new screens is great - they are nearly invisible! We also chose the hardware color, window grilles (which are between the glass so they don't get in the way of cleaning!) and energy efficient glass called SmartSun. Then Rick did the measure explaining to us that they would send someone out to do the actual measure once we decided that we would like to get the windows. The windows are made to fit your space exactly! We paid a deposit of $5,276 with the balance of $7,000 to be paid when the job was complete. We were very excited to get going on the project. Rick was right on with the estimate he gave. Dave came out and measured for the windows. He was very efficient, friendly and speedy! He said he would get the numbers right in. Rick called when the windows were ready and scheduled installation. It took a few weeks since they make the windows to your specifications. Then Aaron and Randy came for the 2 day installation. They did a terrific job! They were very professional and courteous. They asked where we would like them to start since it was a 2 day job. They completed each room as they went along so we didn't have everything torn apart at once and have them leave for the day! They put the new windows in and disposed of the old windows. They did an amazing job cleaning up. They worked around our two dogs. They made sure we were happy with their stopping point. They came back early the next day and finished up. The windows are a dream. Our old windows did not shut properly and there was always a draft. The new windows close so easily, are easy to clean and look great. The awning window is the best. It cranks open so that you can have it open when it is raining. It just looks wonderful. We had one slight problem with that window when the seal around the glass sagged. We called Rick and they came right out and fixed it. It is perfect now! Replacing all the windows in the house was a big decision and a significant investment but we could not be happier! We have had the new windows for about 3 years now and they are wonderful. Every time we open a window or look outside we are so happy that we made this improvement and that we chose Renewal.

The inside is wood and the outside was vinyl. The windows are facing the sun all the time, so they started to get bad on the outside. This company came and replaced all of the outside vinyl and of course the inside window wood. It is very nice, because the windows tilt in so I can wash them. We had no complaints. They did come out on a rainy day and I felt like the rain was getting behind the new wood that they had put in, I thought it would cause a problem, but it hasn’t and it’s been 2 years since.

That service turned out great. We have had them out a couple of times too. We needed a couple new doors and windows and I really liked the features of their product. The rep was knowledgeable and easy to talk to.

They were on time and did a really good job. They caulking they did was neatly done. They also cleaned up after themselves and that was big. I cannot complain about the guys who were here; they were efficient.

The product quality is really good; as well as the guarantee. There were some things on the order that was wrong though one the first time we had used them. I had a siding patio door that was custom made and the handles were on the wrong side. I bright that to their attention and they said that was how they installed them. Our sales representative switched in the middle of process, due to health issues. We did have to wait a long time due to Hurricane Katrina. I have plantation shutters on some of the windows and Andersen Windows will not function with cleaning features that I have. Nobody explained that to me, that if I have plantation shutters on the inside, I will not able to clean them. Some of the windows are installed so tightly I cannot even use that feature. It is a great product, but the installation was not as good. Since my installation, the company has been sold and they did the exterior doors for us and that was a much better experience. That just went a lot better.

They did this a couple years ago. We have had them here more than once. They have very good quality product. They do a great job at installation. We paid for a very good quality product.

Everything was fine. They are good quality windows. The prices were high, but the windows are worth it.

Our old wood windows were rotting and it was time to replace. We did our research and listened to various sales presentations. We settled on Renewal and couldn't be happier. The look of Renewal by Andersen's windows were top notch and really are like comparing apples to oranges with the others. With Renewal, we got windows that look like they belong on the house. The installers covered the frame with the same material as the window so that it matches. The material and installation of the windows is solid. We are so happy with the look of the windows--the saying "you get what you pay for" really rings true here. They were a little higher than the competitors we looked at, but aesthetically and professionally, it was totally worth it. One thing to note though...if you can afford to pay cash, instead of financing through them, do it. Their "no interest" financing ends up costing you quite a bit more.

It was really good. We have no problems with them. They did an excellent job.

The service was superb. It was inexpensive. I did it because of quality of the material. They were very professional. I would absolutely use them in the future.

We were pleased with their work. Good experience & good product. The most recent experience only took an afternoon to be completed - it was very efficiently done. We have no negatives with our interactions with them.

I don’t recall there being any problems with the work. We have had Anderson windows in the past and they have held up well. Their price was more than other companies, but we think that it was a good value. They completed the job in one day. Everything seems to have been fine and we have had no problems with them in the last four years.

While shopping for replacement windows, we compared several vinyl and wood/composite window companies. We got quotes from 3 companies - 2 vinyl window providers and the quote from Renewal By Andersen for the wood/composite windows. We clearly liked the look of the Andersen windows over the vinyl options, but we were afraid that Andersen windows would be too expensive in comparison to the vinyl. We were pleasantly surprised that, although the Andersen windows were slightly more expensive, the total cost was only 10% more than the vinyl option we would have otherwise chose. And, both vinyl companies would add a $300 charge to the window removal process if they found lead paint on the old windows - which was likely since the house was built in the 1950's. So the savings would likely have been nullified. Renewal by Andersen had no such additional fee. I believe we were able to save some money our our windows because we shopped for them in January and had them installed in early February. Not a busy time for window companies. We were fortunate to get a day in the 40s when the installation was performed. The installation team was prompt, friendly, professional, clean, thorough, and relatively fast. All 4 windows were installed and everything was cleaned up in about 2 hours. The new windows look great. We have 6 more to replace next year, and we'll definitely be going back to Andersen for a quote.

I like the windows they sell and their workmanship is excellent. They take great care to clean up and to not damage anything. Depending on how many windows they have, they will bring enough people to do all the windows at once.

We were very happy with them. We will be using them again because the windows work how they’re supposed to and are well insulated. We are not having the air leaks we had before and the screens work.

They did a good job, but they made a mistake and scratched the floor. They denied it at first, but then they reimburse me for it.

They told us when they were going to deliver and they did a great job of the installation. There were no problems.

It was a fantastic presentation, and my representative was courteous, professional and very attentive. Answered all my questions clearly and concisely. We did not go with this company, because the specific style we wanted was not available. A wonderful experience, very nice people.

The first issue was that Renewal by Anderson used sub-contractors for the installation. As a result, after the windows were installed someone from Anderson had to come back to the house to fix all 13 windows. None of them were installed correctly--missing screws, improper caulking, sloppy work, etc. After Anderson "fixed" the problems from the sub-contractor, we discovered that the windows would not stay open--they all "slipped" when we tried to open them to the 1/2 way point. An Anderson Representative informed us that the windows were made with incorrect "weights" and all the weights would need to be replaced. He said this was done at the factory and he would have to order the new parts. The parts were ordered by the local Anderson representative. However, when they arrived, they were the same "wrong size". We are still waiting for the correct weights to be installed. Please keep in mind that the windows were installed in September. It is now almost the midddle of December and Anderson has still not corrected the issue. By the way, when we went to the local Anderson Showroom and explained the issues to the woman at the desk, she said "Does this face look like I care?" From our experience, this must be the Renewal by Anderson Corp attitude. Today is December 12th. We were supposed to have the new weights installed this week. So far, we haven't heard one word from Renewal Anderson about when they are going to make this right.
