Steve was very prompt in contacting me with his availability shortly after I purchased the deal. He came out, was on time, and we discussed my current layout and he gave some good ideas on what could be done to improve the flow. He followed up the visit with contact info to several sources for me to look at appliances, granite, etc. He forewarned me that his plan drawings were very simple-a pencil drawing, no dimensions, and that some people had expected something different. I was appreciative of his being up front. The drawings were exactly as he said they would be. If you purchase the deal thinking you will get a computer generated layout of your options with it, you will be disappointed. It really is a basic consultation.
Description of Work: This was a big deal purchase for a kitchen remodel consultation and basic plans. The consultation and plans were received - no work was performed.

The man who came out was nice and arrived on time. However, he was not quick to respond and was slow to get back to us. It took him about six weeks before he got the plans. The price for the estimate was higher than I wanted to spend on the job and I hired someone else.

It was not good. The guy eventually gave us some simple plans but it wasn’t good. He contacted us initially then there was a period of time we never heard from him. We did sit down and had a consultation from him and after some period of time, he ended up giving us some hand drawn sketches and they weren’t what I would call kitchen design or design plans. He obviously had other stuff going on so he’s never involved up on anything. It was pretty substandard thing. What we had was less than what we had expected. We never really did get anything for the price we paid. He was on time when he actually showed up. He was personable, professional, and presented himself.

Someone from Remodel Cincinnati came out to our house and talked with us for 10-15 minutes about various design possibilities and took some measurements and said he would send us a drawing via email to review in about a week or two and then would make any changes that we wanted and send us a final drawing and a quote to do the remodel. This is exactly what we thought we had purchased. HOWEVER, a few weeks passed and we contacted Remodel Cincinnati to remind them to send the drawing. We received no response. It has now been a few months and I still have not received the drawing we paid for or a response as to why we haven't received it. I would not use this service provider simply because of the lack of communication and not performing the work that is promised and paid for.

He came out once to discuss the project. After our first contact I had to make multiple calls over the next couple of months to get in contact with him which he stated he had been very busy. Once he did send the drawing it was all hand done and rather crude. It was not drawn to scale. I was able to get a better lay out from a local building supply for free.
Description of Work: The service was purchased through a Big Deal. They were supposed to complete a design lay out with drawing for our kitchen.
It went well. The work took about three months and they did a nice job with working with my schedule. They had to come back a couple of times and they were very responsive. The price was a little above average.
Description of Work: They repaired and refinished a basement that was taken apart for foundation work. They put a new sink in a bathroom as well. They got the plumbing and electrical ready.

For $50 (was supposed to be a $200 value), I expected more. Zimmer did spend time measuring our kitchen, but the plans produced were just hand written on graph paper. I thought that was something that I could do myself and didn't see value in this. Zimmer did call a couple times to ask if we would want to move forward with a remodel estimate, but we declined.

Response from Remodel Cincinnati LLC
For the $50.00 paid by the customer to Angie's list I did in fact go to her house and meet with her to try to determine what she might like in a new design for her kitchen. I did spent about an hour at her home measuring the existing kitchen and discussing her wishes. I then did a pencil drawing of the existing kitchen foot print and from there looked at a couple of possible new layouts. I settled on one that made the most sense to me and drew it up. Yes it is a pencil drawing but it is to scale and contains a possible new layout for the kitchen. I submitted this to her by e-mail along with an explanation of the layout. I made several attempts to contact the customer but my calls were never answered or returned. For her $50.00 the customer received an on site inspection of her existing kitchen and a complete measure of the as is kitchen, a drawing of what I thought was the best new layout based on my discussion with her. I spent about 5 hours on her kitchen not counting drive time. I'm sorry she does not feel she got her money's worth

It went well, but after two hours we knew we were not ready to attempt to spend the time to coordinate all that needed to be completed to try and make the project go flawlessly. We also want to contact other kitchen planners and remodelers to get other ideas. The owner of the company was very gracious in his time, and it was evident that he ran a very professional company.
Description of Work: This was an estimate for kitchen remodeling which costs $50. The gentleman who came was very knowledgeable; in fact he was the owner of Remodel Cincinnati LLC. He spent over 2 hours giving us ideas of things we could do with our kitchen space, as well as ways to keep what we have and upgrade. He was very knowledgeable about all facets of kitchen remodeling, from floor to cabinets to ceiling lights. He did say that most of his customers spend much, much more than we had ever anticipated, as he does homes in some of the pricier east side homes that have much more square footage to work with . We knew we could really blow a budget , but wanted to spend less than $35,000. We have not yet remodeled the kitchen, but his was the first visit we had from someone who was well versed in his field.

Person from company came by and talked with me about what I wanted to do with the kitchen. He took measurements and answered some questions I had in regards to possible material to use and if some tasks would be a problem (like taking out an unused window and covering it over). He was there for about half an hour and then left. Did not get any kind of finalized plan and didn't get a chance to follow up on it. With that in mind, overall the experience was positive as the person who stopped in was polite and seemed knowledgeable. My only disappointment is that we did not get any kind of estimate or plan. I really wanted to get some idea of how much a possible remodeling would cost so we could aim for that.

The finished work was very nice but the process was cumbersome. After the installation, there was a nail protruding from the bannister handrail and steps handrails were rough and needed additional sanding and poly. They returned, repaired the nail and sanded/poly’d the banister handrail but forgot to do the stairs handrail. They returned again, took the handrail to finish it and returned it a few days later. They stood by the contract but the attention to detail was lacking and the process took weeks longer than it should have.

We did most of the design work and they did most of the construction. The bathrooms are absolutely gorgeous. Their workmanship is A+, including all of the tile work, cabinetry, and plumbing. The price was good for the quality of the work. Greg, the one who did most of the work, cleaned up each day; it was spotless. There were no delays and I can always contact them via phone; they’re always available. We’d highly recommend them to anybody, and we already have.
Description of Work: Most recently, they remodeled three bathrooms for us. A few years ago, they installed a new deck, and they’ve also done some soffit work. We use them for small jobs when they’re available.

We were getting the house ready for my son's wedding. We wanted input on what we should do with the master bathroom where the bride / bridal party would be dressing, etc. Steve Zimmer came to the house. Looked at the space and I think was surprised to see that there weren't any major issues like water damage in the shower stall, etc. We talked with him about options with the vaulted ceiling, heated floor, etc. He was real pragmatic. Didn't try to push a sale. He's an older guy who clearly has been around and seen it all - high end homes etc. As a contractor's son, I could tell he was a seasoned pro. Mr. Zimmer didn't disappoint. His advice was worth the $50 Angie's list fee for him to come to the house and advise us.
Description of Work: Purchased a bathroom evaluation thru angie's list. Steve Zimmer, President came to the house. Gave us very candid and practical advice on some ideas that we had. He didn't try to push a sale he was concerned about doing the right thing for us.

It took him a few weeks to come out, which was understandable. I had a coupon through Angie's List and I had to email him several times to get it to go towards the bathroom instead of the kitchen. When I did get ahold of him, he said he lost it. I get an email copy of the bathroom and it was the exact same print. It was like he didn't want to do the job. It was the worst $50 I have ever seen.

Response from Remodel Cincinnati LLC
The Customer has a good reason to be upset with Remodel Cincinnati & myself. Mainly because we did misplace the documentation from the visit to her home. This resulted in an extended period of time where she did not her from me. There was never any disagreement over the coupon as it was always meant for a kitchen or bath.We did eventually find the notes from my visit and submitted a plan for two baths. Because she was selling the home I had suggested only minor changes and consequently the floor plan did not change much from the original. We submitted a price & suggestions but regretfully I had already upset her with the delays.

I hired them to get the work done and they are currently working in my house. It was the first contract that I ever got with everything written down in the list with every detail. I never had anybody put down so many details into it. So I made a down payment and somebody is currently installing the countertops for me. I had a positive experience with them and the guy who came out for the estimate knew what he was doing. He was down to earth, which I liked. I knew about the colors and other things since I had done my homework on what I wanted. We had a discussion about whether to put a plate around the faucet or not. So he suggested not to because it’s easier to keep it clean and I think it’s a little more contemporary without it. So that’s one thing that I had a question about, but he did help me with that too.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Remodel Cincinnati to replace a sink, a dishwasher, the faucets and also the countertops in the kitchen.

I want to say that simply because I did not like Steve does not mean that he is not good at his job or that he is not capable or competent. I emailed Steve and described the project to him (I found him via Angie's List), about 4-6 hours later I got a call from Steve. Steve asked me to describe the project again and his next statement was, "I just want to make sure you have a realistic expectation of what something like that might cost" I know that contractors deal all day long with people who have "unrealistic expectations" that jerk them around and waste their time, I am not one of those people.(In case you are wondering, a bathroom take down, remodel and rebuild at a minimum will be about 10k in 2008-2009). I thought it was a bit condescending and while justifiable, not a good way to start a business relationship. I thought, fine and I let it go. Steve arrived on time, was professional and pleasant while we met and offered some good ideas so I thought lets wait and see what he says. As promised his bid did arrive early the next week. His bid was $20k plus. He pointed out that he does not underbid and that he only does high quality work. Given that everyone says that, I took some more bids. Steve's bid was 6k higher than the next highest bid. I would suggest and recommend taking at least 3-5 bids always and to always question people. Contractors and you have to have a similar vision. I have no doubt Steve's work is good, reputable and that he is a good contractor. I think he probably has expectations for the size and type of work he would like to do and that my project was not interesting to him or in the same league. And so while I personally did not mesh with Steve that is not to say that I would not tell others to consider him. Again, he was on time, polite and willing to take on the project. I don't know if I would ever call him, but I might tell others to give him a chance. My only other recommendation is when you look at Angie's List, to keep an eye open for when reviews were sent in. Steve didn't have many this year or in the past few years, whereas other contractors have.

We had gotten 3 quotes, and all were fairly comparable, but Zimmer was just a bit cheaper. They provided a reasonably detailed description of the work to be done, including an hourly rate of $50 in case the wall prep after wallpaper removal was more labor intensive. They also wrote in that they'd refund us $50/hour if the job went faster. They started the job right away, the worker was friendly and cleaned up after himself each day. The only downside is that when they removed our ceiling fan with a light fixture in it, they broke the bulb (probably when it was set down, it protruded just a little bit).
Description of Work: We asked for a doorway to be added between our master bedroom and an adjoining small bedroom to create a walk-in closet. We also wanted the wallpaper, which had been painted over, to be removed and to have the wall paint ready. And because our ceiling was also papered (and peeling) we wanted that refinished and paint ready (they recommended installation of 1/2 inch drywall).
