I recently decided to finish my basement and needed to have the walls and ceiling drywalled. I received quotes from 5-6 other drywall contractors, including several of the top rated picks from Angie's List. I was amazed by the range of quotes that I received for ths job, which ranged from around $2,000 to nearly $5,000. While price was obviously a part of my decision, it wasn't necessarily the most important criteria... I was most concerned about getting the job done right and choosing somebody that I felt comfortable with doing the work inside of my home. After meeting with each of the contractors and having them provide onsite quotes, I ultimately chose Pyramid Interiors, the only company that wasn't currently on Angie's List. Even though this company wasn't on Angie's List, I felt comfortable moving forward as the owner, William "L" Lee seemed very professional. L spent a great deal of time talking me through the process, answering my questions, and even provided references upon my request. Not only did I find L to be more thorough than the other drywall companies that I contacted but he was also coincidentally MUCH cheaper. He also allowed me to purchase my own materials, which helped to further manage my costs (although, in retrospect I wouldn't recommend this as the drywall was a PAIN to transport). To hang/finish the entire basement (walls/ceiling), L charged me $1,100. I also had him sand/resurface the stairway leading down into the basement to make it match the new area, which added an extra $300. With materials, my total cost came to around $1,900 ($1,400 for labor and around $500 for drywall, mud, tape, etc.) In terms of the quality of the work that was performed, I have been very pleased. The drywall for entire basement was hung in 2 days and L came out and finished the rest over the course of the next week so (allowing sufficient dry times for each coat). L and his team were always very courteous and kept me informed of the status of the job throughout. Upon completion, I told L that I would provide a review via Angie's List and have already recommended him to my brother-in-law who is in the process of finishing his basement as well. I'm not really sure what else the places that quoted nearly $5,000 could have done much better to warrant such a big price gap but if you are searching for a drywall contractor, I would definitely recommend giving Pyramid Interiors a call.
