+ -1 moreI had a great experience. They did a very good job. They are very prompt and friendly. They have a two time per year service plan that is beneficial which includes serving the unit and changing the filters. They will also check the Freon level.
Description of Work: My air conditioner was not working properly and they improved the quality. He cleaned out the air filter. I signed up for their service plan.

Description of Work: I don’t remember the exact dates, but they were out October of 2016 and they were also out again, I would say probably middle to late January. That was just a cleaning at that point and it was under a contract, so there really wasn’t an actual bill at that point and time, because I paid for the fall and the spring cleaning both. For both of those it was $225. It was just a checkup and what not of the heating and the air conditioning.

+ -1 moreI have a furnace which is located in my attic. My furnace was purchased from another company and installed by them. I haven't had much luck with them but won't go into detail about that. Precription Air came out, crawled around in my attic, found and repaired a shorted wire located inside the air handler. This wire looks to have never been installed properly (my opinion) and could have caused a fire.
Description of Work: Repaired my furnace which was not providing heat.

+ -1 moreThe company did not do the prepaid air conditioner service. The technician was already here for a furnace service. The outside temperature was 70 degrees so warm enough to check the A/C. The tech was uncooperative in finding any way to do the prepaid service.

+ -1 moreWe did this project in two phases. The first phase was when we were remodelling our basement. McClain came in and installed dampers into ductwork while the ceiling was open and we paid for that part of the project at that time. We then saved for three months to complete the project and they were willing to work with us on that. They returned, added additional dampers into existing ductwork, hooked it all together, added wireless thermostats in the zones we requested and finished everything within one day. We now are more comfortable in our home than we've ever been. Our master bedroom is above an unheated garage and we've always been cold in that room. We can now have that room at exactly the temperature we want while keeping other zones lower or higher as desired. Cost is dependent on number of zones you want.

+ -1 moreMcClain did not bug me or pressure me to go with them. They did answer all of my questions, and provided all of the details that I needed to compare various estimates. It is very difficult to compare estimates because there is so much variability with furnaces, i.e., like comparing apples and oranges. I was debating between 2 companies (both from Angies List), but ended up with McClain because we didn't have a working furnace and they did prioritize our furnace installation quickly because cold weather was forecast. Buddie installed the new Maytag furnace, which took a day and a half because of some of the complexities of removing our large 20+ year old inefficient furnace that had a huge duct to the chimney. However, he made sure the furnace was in good running order on the first day so that we could get the house warm. The new Maytag furnace is 95% efficient. Buddie was able to hook up our old Aprilaire humidifier into the new furnace easily. Our new furnace is quieter and more efficient. We're quite happy with our new Maytag furnace.
Description of Work: First of all, I contacted McClain for a furnace tune-up in October to prep the furnace for winter. On October 25, they sent Leo who has 20+ years with McClain. Leo ended up not performing the tune-up because the furnace was dead. Leo showed me all of the rust in the coils and said not to put the furnace on, it needed to be replaced. Doug, the owner of McClain, came the same afternoon to provide me with an estimate and answer all of my questions about options. I got 3 estimates for a new furnace and did a lot of research -- on Angie's List, Consumer Reports, and on-line in general. McClain was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. Like most Heating & Air Conditioning companies, they provided 3 estimates - a good, better, best approach. We ended up choosing the "better" option. My on-line research showed that Maytag has one of the best, if not THE best, warranty in the business -- 12 years furnace parts and 12 years labor, and furnace heat exchanger is a lifetime warranty. The heat exchanger warranty seems fairly standard. McClain had installed the 2 furnaces in this house previously.

+ -1 moreMy husband has used McClain for our A/C so that's who we called for the furnace. When we called they were able meet us the next day (Friday) at a convenient time for me based on my work schedule. Leo was polite and knowledgeable and tried many different things to figure out what was causing the furnace to shut itself down. Finally it was discovered that the heating elements were beyond repair and the furnace, if turned back on, would be a danger to us. It was 28 years old. Since it was Friday afternoon they were unable to install a new furnace that day but Leo worked via cell phone with the owner on a recommended furnace and price. We made arrangements for the following Monday morning for removal of our old furnace and installation of a new, more energy efficient furnace. The installation by a different repairman did take all of Monday and half of Tuesday to complete due to moving from a large furnace to a much smaller one. However, we did have heat Monday evening as promised (including a new programmable thermostat) and we didn't have to return to a hotel.
Description of Work: Our furnace began blowing cold air and after trying a few things ourselves over 2 days - new battery for the thermostat, for example - we called McClain to solve the problem. Turns out the furnace needed to be replaced.

+ 0 moreI am extremely thankful that McClain came to service our furnace at just the right time to notice our gas leak(I was oblivious). The owner of McClain is my neighbor/friend and had been reminding us that we needed to have our furnace tuned-up. He turned out to be our guardian angel who saved us from a potentially serious gas leak. He also gives us a significant discount on services which is very nice.
Description of Work: Mr. Kidd serviced my furnace and repaired two gas leaks that were discovered during the tune-up visit. He recommended that I call the gas company to check for further leaks, which I did. Mr. Kidd returned later the same day and replaced a defective gas valve.

+ -1 moreI was in Connecticut when my A/C went out, during a heat wave in August 2006. A friend who was caring for my cat told me the news. I called two Cincinnati companies for estimates. Doug Whittenburg at McClain gave me several options, and I chose one that seemed quite reasonable to me. It was installed and running when I got back to town.
Description of Work: New air conditioner installed, replacing one that was almost 30 years old. Doug Whittenburg first asked if I didn't want them to try to fix it, but since it was so old and inefficient I decided not to go that way. I appreciated his offer to try and fix it rather than try and sell me a new one. McClain had fixed it a couple of times over the years, and installed my furnace about 6 years ago. I've been very happy with their work.

+ -1 moreBoth our experiences with McClain were very positive. Leo arrived on time and was very knowledgeable about hot water systems.
Description of Work: We have a 1923 home with a hot water heating system. After several disastrous experiences with the company that installed our hot water boiler we contacted McClain Heating and Cooling. I found them on Angie s list. In December, 2005, I requested a serviceman with experience in hot water systems. McClain sent Leo Jost who analyzed our system, found that several settings were wrong and quickly resolved the problem. Ask for Leo by name as not all repair persons are familiar with hot water systems in older homes. In March, 2006, our boiler was leaking excessively. Leo quickly diagnosed the problem as a worn relief valve. He replaced the worn relief valve and drained the expansion tank that had over-filled.

ALL PEOPLE WERE AS KNOWLEDGEABLE AS THEY WERE COURTEOUS AND PUNCTUAL. WE'LL ABSOLUTELY USE THEM AGAIN, SHOULD THE NEED ARISE, AND RECOMMEND THEM TO OTHERS.
