I hired the painting people to put on glid wall and they did an excellent job. However, they were scheduled for other rooms, but due to the complicated work on foundation that I had going on, I had to reschedule them. They never came back out to do the rooms since I did not have a written contract with them. I tried to call, but was unable to get a hold of them, and then today I received an email that they were retracting all of their bids for the painting. I would just like to warn others to sign a contract with them before hiring them for work.
Description of Work: They put in a glid wall, and they were scheduled to paint more rooms.

Response from Peter J Grady
This client went to a hardware store that specializes in products for wall & building restoration. She asked the general manager & owner who is the best person they know to restore plaster walls in the city, as the client described to me, they in unison said my name - lol. I did museum quality work for this client in one room - a complete restoration of plaster walls. As she said "the walls look beautiful". I was scheduled to do other rooms in the home throughout the spring. Each time I was to start another area of the house the client cancelled on me - leaving me no work for the week. I was patient the first time this happened, and when she cancelled the second time I was also left with a gap with no work. And when the client wanted to reschedule again for a third time, she wanted to pay me less money than my very fair, very reasonable going rate. And on top of that she wanted me to employ a family member of hers during the project! Due to the clients numerous cancellations for scheduled work she left me with a 10-14 day period with no work. Luckily I was able to pick up a few side jobs to supplement my lost income. I turned down other full time paid work to take on her projects each time she cancelled the work. During the clients cancellations I still made myself available at her home for FREE consultations regarding her home. I went above and beyond what would be considered ethical & professional. I decided that two cancellations of scheduled work, an attempt to renegotiate my going rate, & employ a family member of hers was enough for me to focus my energy on other potential clients & projects. This is Angieslist not Craigslist.

I had a gap (crack) that had developed between the stringer of my upstairs steps and plaster walls. They patched and painted it and did an excellent quality job. Also, they were always right on time, every time that they were scheduled for work. The job only took one and a half days!
Description of Work: They fixed and patched my plaster walls and painted the stairwell and hallway walls.

The work was meticulous, The bid was accurate and reports on the work were regular and informative. The crew came every day (and were wonderful people to have in our home--polite, quiet, and very hardworking). The work was finished on time. We will certainly use them in the future.
Description of Work: Pete and his crew refinished the old, mottled and cracked plaster in our 100-year-old home. We have had to use drywall in other rooms to cover the old plaster, but they used a product that gave the walls a completely new skin; they look amazing! They painted the living room, dining room, and three-floor hallway; rehung windows, replaced toe molding on baseboards, and hung light fixtures.

This company is exemplary of the way all companies should do business. They are friendly, knowledgeable, hard working, meticulous about detail, and proud of their own quality work. At the outset they did a color consultation to help us choose colors. They carefully repaired all cracks with strong sealants, bolting any sagging plaster into the lathing. Then they sanded, covered, and painted the treated areas. The final result was beautiful. The rooms were transformed. To top it all off, every other day, they would send me a progress report by e-mail, explaining all the work they had done, any difficulties they had run into, work remaining to be done, supplies used and supplies needed, and any projected adjustments in cost. By the end of the project, the final amount was BELOW the bid they had originally given us. This job was only for the living and dining rooms. We have hired them to return and do the same work in the rest of the house--hallway, bedrooms, and kitchen.

Pete and his crew were phenomenal. Returned calls, and showed up on time (for consultations and job itself), were courteous and worked hard, and did an amazing job on our house. Pete explained everything in detail of what would be done, and when we weren't sure about paint colors, his wife who is an artist came out for a color consultation. We added some minor work on as we went, and Pete & crew handled everything with no problems. He also gives you options as you go, as to different things you can do. The job was finished in the time estimated, was very professionally done, and price was right on. I highly recommend Pete Grady & team for any interior drywall/wall repair.

No worries from this customer for life! Great job, great professionalism! I am very happy to recommend The Painting People and Pete Grady for your needs. You will be very happy. Pete Grady is a TRUE CRAFTSMAN!!!!
Description of Work: I have an event rental company in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, " adaytorememberusa.com " and I deal in very high end items for rent. Al of my sofa's are from Legacy Leather and all are Italian Leather Sofa's. They are the real deal-no cheap furniture store items here. In March I leased 4 Italian Leather sofa's. One sofa was moved without my knowledge and one leg was torn from the frame below. Very upset at this. I remembered talking to the owner Pete Grady and the conversation turned to tools and his work. His fascination with tools and when used correctly can create magic. Soon after I I needed hi services for my sofa. After thoroughly inspecting the sofa and retrieving information from the maker-Legacy-Leather.com he determoned what needed to be done. He was actually able to repair the wood and the frame without any major hassle. I watched him as he fixed my sofa and was astounded at the finish repair. It was if nothing had ever happened and the repair is very strong. My final charge was $100. A true Craftsman and a great price!

They did an excellent job. Pete came out and assessed the job and even gave me instructions to complete the job if I wanted to have a go myself first and save some money. I decided I wanted him to do the work and he came out the following week. He and Dave between them did a really super job and it's as if the chair rail never existed. As agreed they got it to the point where I would prime and paint the wall. They were very tidy and cleaned up after themselves. Our dining room looks great. We will definitely use them again.

Things went very nicely. Pete and his crew arrived on time, were polite, worked hard and were very neat. The work was done according to the estimate, the quality of the paint used was excellent and was finished a little ahead of schedule. We could not be more pleased and will definitely use his services again!
Description of Work: We contacted Pete for an estimate. He arrived when he said he would, was very thorough and detailed in his examination and estimate of the project. He even strongly encouraged us to get several other estimates for comparison purposes. We have a new home and have lived in it for 6 plus years. Most of the interior painting needed to be done on two levels as we have numerous grandchildren visit as well as a very large dog. We had the great room, the master bedroom, three other bedrooms, a large family room, two hallways and the master bath painted. We also had some cracks repaired from where the house had settled. This work included the ceilings as well as the walls. Our house is approximately 3800 square feet and I would estimate he painted about 3/4 of the space.

We had a hard time finding someone that would agree to do the job. I haven't seen the finished product, but I hear it looks as good as it did when she was a little girl. It was her Grandmother's chest. It didn't need a lot of work; it was mainly a clean-up and detail job. She didn't have any problems with the work. There wasn't any complaints. She was very happy with it.

Description of Work: Repaired and prepared hole (3" by 24" long in lower wall) in dining room to be painted. The hole was caused by preparing a light to be hung over a painting. The drywall was cut out, thus creating the 3X24 opening. The area was repaired, plastered, sanded, primed and is now ready for me to paint.

The price for materials was surprisingly high to me. Though, he kept me up to date in terms of the budget. It did end up over budget. He used my utility sink to clean his plastering tools which caused a back up, and ended up flooding the laundry room. We never had any drain problems prior to this. He denied the accusations even though I could see the plaster build up. Thankfully, one other workman went out to the street to clean his tools. I ended up with plaster in a few rooms because the areas were not completely covered. I had to clean the plaster out of the air conditioner as well. His wife helped pick out paint colors, but we had trouble finding more for touch-ups. She did end up getting the correct color paint and touching it up, though she did track plaster in our house. The plaster work was good, though they did have to come once for touch-ups. When he came for his check, he took the payment and immediately left. We did have a good end result, even with a few bumps along the way.

Response from Peter J Grady
The material prices were the same price that I pay at my wholesale building distributor. I do not "upcharge" for materials like many other tradesmen to cover the time considerations of purchasing the materials. I also gave a 10% discount. The repairs were a Time and Materials Bid - so I could only give an estimated, approximate cost. There was extensive plaster repair, and it takes as long as it takes to do the high quality work that I do. I am also very efficient and prompt and those qualities contribute to a lower final cost. Regarding the utility sink - There was an extensive cooking grease back up in the pipes and evidence (rings along the sink itself) of clogs in the past, ironically we did smell fried foods cooking in the days we were there. The kitchen pipes drained into the same main pipe as the utility sink in the basement. I know all of this because I called Pat Calla - a licensed master plumber to come out and address the situation after I had been accused of backing up the pipes with no evidence that I did so (BTW - I highly recommend him). He unclogged the pipes and large amounts of cooking grease came up. The professional, objective assessment from a licensed master plumber with a great reputation was that the cooking grease slowed the drainage over time and eventually clogged the pipes. It is within industry standards to clean mud tools in a utility or "slop" sink. I have done it literally hundreds of times with no issue. The mud compound is basically just that - soft moist mud. It easily breaks down into liquid form and dissolves when it makes contact with water. Even when it hardens, if water is applied it dissolves into liquid form. I cleaned two 6 inch knives that had been wiped down even before I went to the utility sink - so the mud was minimal... The expert, indepth professional color consult is a free service that I provide, in the color/design field it is a billable service which usually costs approximately $50.00 per hour.... Tracking plaster - a cleaning person was hired to clean the rooms we were working in, in the middle of the job, in the middle of the work site. This caused mud and dust to be dispersed in areas that were originally localized and clean. This also contributed to a few hours extra of clean up time that I did not bill for... When I went to pickup the check, the door opened, I was handed a check and the door was shut promptly.... Ironically, my college field of study was in empiricism and the scientific method, it's a valuable asset when I read reports like this. I confirm that the information contained in this response is true, accurate, and objective. Sincerely, Pete

The job went well. They painted in some chilly weather which delayed the project a little (drying time) but he assured us that the quality wouldn't suffer and that the paint he used was okay to use in chilly weather. Pete is also a very knowledge handyman and he provided an additional inspection service where he suggested others areas for use to keep an eye on for further repairs. He and his team were very professional, courteous, and conscientious. His follow-up and punctuality were great. He went above and beyond. He also offered free touch ups for up to a year after he completed the job. We plan to use him again to help repair and stain our deck.
Description of Work: Pete and his team did a great job. We have a brick house with intentionally "sloppy" mortar. As a result they hand scraped vs. using a power washer which helped save the look of the mortar. They outsourced but managed the repair of some deteriorating mortar work and provided a free color consultation by a color professional. Additionally they repaired and replaced damaged wood on the overhangs and eves, caulked and filled holes and gaps.

Pete was recommended to me through a friend for a project I was doing at my business. As a project coordinator his services were invaluable. He listened to my ideas and concerns and advised me on design and colors and although skeptical at first his insight proved to be perfect. His experience was obvious and his construction consultations were time and money saving. His equipment and supply list were accurate and precise with no wastage. This project was a complete success and Pete was largely responsible for that. I will use The Painting People again and would highly recommend them for any project

Jason was diligent in his work--he even tracked down some hard-to-source custom parts that we'd given up on finding. A master woodworker, Jason also is an accomplished painter; his plasterwork and painting resulted in an 'invisible' repair in a very 'visible' spot on our living room wall. Pete and Jason are absolutely reliable; they arrive when they say they'll arrive, they work efficiently and professionally, they clean up every day before leaving, and they follow-up after the job is done to make sure that we remain satisfied with their work. They gave us a full estimate before starting and discussed any deviations from that estimate with us thoroughly. This is a professional organization, offering excellent work at very reasonable prices.
Description of Work: Pete Grady did a marvelous job repainting several rooms of our home after a major plumbing disaster, and his company came through for us again when we needed some additional interior painting and window repair. His associate, Jason Davis, disassembled and repaired three of our 100-year old double-hung windows, and now they look (and work) like new. Jason also repaired a hole in an interior wall and replaced a section of baseboard.
