They were very professional and friendly. I felt very comfortable having them in our house. Very nice family man. They did a great job. A bit pricier than others but they did a fantastic job. Very helpful in choosing colors as well. Would highly recommend.

This was a difficult task to remove this aging ceiling texture, and the paint crew did a good job smoothing the surface, trapping all the dust, and cleaning up after work each day. The kitchen and family room look a lot better and allowed us to update both rooms with new lights and furniture.
Description of Work: Removed "popcorn" texture from 23-year old ceiling in family room and kitchen (360 square feet) and restored/painted to smooth service. Required approximately 63 hours of labor, plus a lot of drop cloths and paint.

I interviewed several contractors for our project and after meeting Pete and walking through the project with him, I knew he was the right person for the job. We had some minor water damage in the plaster around a couple of our windows and it was hard for me to find someone who was good at both painting and plastering. Pete and his team did a great job. The plaster work turned out better than I expected and the quality of their painting is admirable. One of the things I appreciated most about Pete was that he is very good at communicating. We always knew what work was on deck when they were at the house. He is also very good about calling or texting (which we often did) when there is a question about some aspect of the work. Most importantly, I appreciated Pete?s honesty. When he originally bid the project he said he would use Sherwin Williams top of the line paint, which at the time was their Duration line, but when he found SW had a new top tier paint called Emerald, he let us know he would be using that instead. The Emerald line is a few dollars more per gallon and Pete did not adjust the original quote. The Emerald line is no VOC, so we had no paint smell and the colors are very vibrant. Pete and his crew were very good about cleaning up every day. They put their materials out of the way, so it did not impact our lives too much. Finally, Pete is very accommodating, and at our request, he expanded the scope of work in a few areas, without making me feel trapped or giving us an inflated bid for the additional work. I would highly recommend Pete for anyone looking to have painting and plaster repair work done. He treats his work with the seriousness of a craftsman. I normally paint myself, so this was an experiment for me and it was totally worth it because it allowed me to focus on other things. We plan to have Pete back to issue us a bid for some additional painting and crown molding work.
Description of Work: Pete and his crew painted our Master Bathroom (and walk-in closet), Master Bedroom, Living Room, third floor staircase and the ceiling above our main staircase. They also rehabbed the framing around one of our windows and did some minor plaster repairs.

Early this year, we had Pete do plaster repair work and painting in our livingroom after we had another company do mortar (tuck pointing) work on the exterior brick to fix water leaks in our livingroom. We assumed the exterior water leak problem was resolved, but unfortunately, the exterior work done by this other company did not fully resolve our water leak problems and Pete came to the rescue to help us. He did extensive mortar repair work (tuck pointing) on our exterior brick in numerous places which seems to successfully finally resolved our difficult brick/mortar leak problems. I am very grateful for Pete?s diligence to help us. With the leak finally fixed, Pete once again repaired our plaster livingroom walls where we had water damage. Plaster wall repair work is a Pete?s strength. We?ve had plaster wall repair work done before by somebody else but nothing like the beautiful work Pete does. Pete doesn?t use the traditional tape and mud approach but his method which produces PERFECT plaster walls which do not crack (as often happens with plaster repair).
Description of Work: We’ve had Pete do wall/ceiling repair work and painting for us in both 2012 and 2013. This year he also did mortar, tuck pointing work on our exterior brick.

It went very well, I am very pleased. The contractor was easy to work with. He was very open and transparent about everything he was doing.
Description of Work: They repaired a severely deteriorated plaster in my bathroom. The replastered the walls, repaired a hole with drywall. The also did the stairwell and secured the plaster, patch the cracks. They repaired a bulge in the plaster and painted both the bathroom and stairwell. I'm very happy with the results. They did a great job.

Pete and Mike were always professional and prompt. Pete was very responsive with emails and was accurate with the timeline. They were extremely friendly and personable and it was a pleasure having them in the house for the few days they were here. They did a great job painting and now we are actually looking forward to spending time in the basement.
Description of Work: Pete and his co worker, Mike, applied some test coats of paint to help us choose color, painted our basement, touched up our ceilings, and a few other odd and ends in the basement.

The work took longer than I thought/expected it to (2 weeks), but I attribute this to Pete Grady doing a very good job on work where he had to put multiple layers of stuff to fix the big hole in the livingroom ceiling/wall and wall areas where we had water damage (which he dug out, some down to the brick). We live in an older home with plaster walls and Pete did a GREAT job on the wall repair, using what seemed to be a high quality materials/method (he explained materials to me but I forget) that looks great and I'm thinking probably won't recrack like plaster often does. On the holes from the plumbing work, he used some drywall as well which he asked before doing so to be sure we were OK with that. He has good knowledge, experience with issues of older home with plaster, which I appreciate. Pete and his worker(s) reliably started work between 8:30 and 9 each day; they had different work ending times each day depending on where they were in the project. (Some days I wondered why they stopped so early but he explained they could only do so much each day on a given wall area.) They seemed to try to keep down the mess but with this kind of work dust always travels to adjacent rooms to those where work is being done. Pete was pretty good on communicating with me (in person, phone, email depending on the day) to let me know what the coming day(s) would bring. In the end, the wall/painting work looks great and I am happy. Pete and his team are professionals. I will definitely use Pete Grady of The Painting People again (in fact, plan to do in the coming months) and highly recommend him.
Description of Work: We had wall/ceiling repair and painting done in our (large) livingroom, (open, tall) stairway, one bedroom. We'd had a plumbing repair job to replace the stack from the 2nd floor bathroom that had left a large hole (about 2 ft X 2 ft) in the livingroom ceiling and down the wall (about 1 ft all the way down) that we needed filled-in. Also we had water damage in the corner of a bedroom ceiling, down the wall that needed repair and water damage on multiple spots in the livingroom.

They were very responsive. They immediately replied to my email. It was literally almost instantaneous. He also called and was very courteous and enthusiastic. He was a fairly young person. It was just really great and a very positive exchange. He's very professional. His pricing was very competitive. The only reason we didn't use him was because we used someone else who was already working on different parts of the house. I really was disappointed that I didn't use them. They were also very punctual. They know what they're doing. They also have a fabulous website. They're really good designers, too. He listened. He made me comfortable with what he told me.
Description of Work: We got a quote from The Painting People for smoothing the walls, to prep the walls, because the walls were completely covered with wallpaper. We removed the wallpaper ourselves, but we discovered a lot of imperfections on the walls. It was a bit of a mess. They gave us a quote to prep the walls so that it would be paint ready for us to paint.

This guy would not come to my house. He would not answer my phone calls. Someone from Angie’s List had to call him for him to even come out to my house. He wasn’t prompt when he showed up. He looked at the job and said he would give me the bid. I never heard anything back. I called him on Sunday, which he said he doesn’t work Sundays and would get the bid to me on Monday. However, he called the council of aging today stating that I need an advocate, and that I am not mentally competent. I am completely competent and take care of my brother. He is just trying to get out of doing the work. I believe that he did not want to the job because I am a woman of color.

I did come to the customer's home. I did answer her phone calls. I was at her home at 8:50am Sat morning for a 9am appointment. I started working on the extensive bid that night (Saturday night). I received a phone call from her on Sunday morning asking if the bid was completed. She seemed not to remember that I told her on Sat morning that I would type up the bid & drop it off to her home in 3-4 days (she said she didnt have internet access or email address). There is extensive structural work needed and it would take a few days to type it up & deliver. I recommended that she call roofers & plumbers asap to address the moisture coming into her room, it looked current active & ongoing. I also recommended to stay away from the ceiling tile that seemed to be falling down in the other room. This was going to be an extensive structural project with multiple rooms being addressed & various tradespeople involved - roofers maybe a plumber, structural engineer, myself, etc. On Monday morning I called the Southwest Ohio Council on aging & requested that they contact the customer & offer their Advocacy Services to her for her to have an independent ally looking out for her bests interests during the project re: assessments, bids, contracts, hiring, work scheduling etc. They did call her that morning at my request & offered Advocacy Services. The customer called me later that day & accused me of trying to have her deemed mentally incompetent & taking her house from her. And not wanting to do the work. She cussed at me & hung up without me getting a word in. I was actually doing what I would want someone to do for my elderly loved ones. There are serious urgent structural/safety issues w the house & various trades specialities possibly being involved. Even the best expert site manager on a remodeling/repair work site needs an assistant.... Her racial accusations are shocking. I'm not going to defend such absurdity. It disturbs me that on Angieslist someone can make anonymous racial accusations about me that are in public view & they can stay anonymous. It's like a Kafka novel. No good deed goes unpunished.... Sincerely, Pete

Our house was built in 1940 and we were noticing some pretty severe cracks in the ceiling and walls. We also had some ceiling damage from an upstairs leak and we were looking to change our paint colors. Pete (the company's owner) was timely in completing the estimate and quoted us a reasonable price. All the cracks and the water damage were thoroughly and completely fixed. We also appreciated Pete's thorough explanation of the process and his desire to make sure we understood all the necessary steps to complete the repairs. Pete also had some suggestions about what could be causing the cracks. Pete helped with paint color recommendations and was understanding when we changed our mind on a color. The paint and repairs look great. We are so pleased with this companys work and would definitely hire them again. We would recommend them to anyone who needs this kind of work done. Pete was 100% transparent in his explanation of the entire process from estimate to work and we were never caught off guard by any step in the process.

Peter was highly recommended by a friend of ours whose husband is an architect. After playing phone tag, Peter came to do measurements and we discussed with him what we wanted done. He seemed enthusiastic and seemed to know exactly what we were looking for. He stated he was extremely busy but would contact us in the next couple weeks with an estimate. Two weeks went by and we didn't hear from him. Coincidently I ran into him in a coffee shop--he stated he was still interested in the project and would get back to us soon. Again, we never heard from him. We contacted him by phone and he stated that he most likely could not do the project until September and stated he was still interested in the project and would work on the estimate. I asked him to let us know if he could and still wanted the project and he stated yes. We again NEVER heard from him. So come September we called 3 other custom carpenters and got our estimate promptly from all 3!! It would have been nice for him to tell us he could not do the project and keep us from hanging... I realize he is extremely busy and perhaps him stating that he would not be available for a few months was his way of telling us he could not do the project. However, we told him we were in no hurry and told him he came highly recommended from our friend. But, he never got back to us with an estimate which was a complete WASTE of our time. But in the end, we chose another company who did an outstanding job. We would not recommend this company for smaller jobs since he obviously doesn't have time for those.

Finished Carpentry - I hear what the member is saying and I apologize for wasting his time. I went to the member's home & assessed the project. I never was able to type up a bid or contract for the project. I was hospitalized due to a non work related medical condition twice this summer. In between I was hoping to bounce back very quickly & catch up on current projects I had going as well as potential bids i was following up on. That is when I saw the member at the coffee shop. My already backed up schedule was compounded by the medical emergency & I didn't contact him back. I don't employ administrative assistants to do follow calls, typing of bids, etc so I can keep my labor rate reasonable. Usually I can manage the admin duties, but due to the busy summer work schedule & acute medical issue I was unable to. It seems that the member was able to find more than one competent carpenter to bid on & successfully complete the project. I'm glad this was the outcome. ...Sincerely, Pete

Peter Grady called me back the same day when I left a message inquiring about getting an estimate. He suggested the next day (Saturday) which didn't work for me, then suggested Sunday, which did. He arrived promptly at the scheduled time, took a thorough look at the work to be done, and got me an estimate the next day, by email. He was professtional and friendly. In the end, I chose to hire someone else to do the work, but I would certainly consider hiring the Painting People in the future for other work.

Pete did an amazing job identifying the best solution for each problem area. He executed his plan and then did a great job blending the newly repaired areas into the existing wall. The entire experience of working with Pete was pure professionalism. He was extremely flexible and efficient. I received formal status updates during the project and was never left wondering where things stood. I was so pleased with Pete that we setup another job for him before he even finished the first job. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

After researching Angie's List we selected The Painting People, Pete Grady to do our work. His estimate was more than fair and he was upfront about utilizing a small crew and as such it would be several weeks before he could get to us but that once engaged would concentrate solely on our job. This dedicated approach appealed to us. Pete and his assistants were courteous and respectful of our property and always cleaned up after the days work. The work performed was of the highest quality and they will be our first choice in the event we need drywall or painting work done again. Note: A couple of months after the work was performed a nail pop that was in a difficult position on a high wall reappeared, (we had discussed at the time that repair might pose a problem). I contacted Pete and he came out repaired and painted at no charge; there has been no further issue. I highly recommend.

I contacted Pete and heard from him immediately via email. He arranged to come to give us an estimate which he did promptly. The estimate was incredibly fair. He is even willing to give his customers ideas on the best paint colors which is very helpful. Pete and Josh arrived at the promised time and completed the job promptly.. We have never had a painter who is as personable and helpful as Pete as well as experienced and knowledgeable. In fact, the paint was not dry yet when we asked him to do another job. Obviously we recommend him highly and will never have another painter if Pete is around. We'll wait until he is available

The Painting People were very friendly, and very detailed in explaining what would happen to the walls and how much it would cost. The plaster work was excellently done. When it came to painting the room, they did a good job. I did ask them to come back to make sure there were clean lines of paint along the ceiling and window frames, as the painting tended to be lighter around those areas (as they were careful not to get paint on the white molding). In the end, we got the clean lines. We also asked them to use non-toxic substances, and they were very responsive to that request.
Description of Work: We had removed the wallpaper in an upstairs bedroom ourselves, and needed professionals to have the plaster walls smoothed out. THE PAINTING PEOPLE glazed the walls. Then, they painted the walls one color and the baseboard a different color.

I needed to get the front of my house and porch painted before the weather turned too cold. Pete gave me an estimate, started and fininshed the work in time which was really appreciated. Pete and his team did an outstanding job! They painted almost the entire interior of our house and did repair work on the plaster walls. Pete is extremely professional and his work is very thorough, high quality and competitively priced. He is a master of his profession. We had purchased our first home and had contacted Pete a few weeks before we were to move in. He gave a very detailed and accurate estimate and the work was completed on schedule. We asked Pete to do an assessment of the walls and recommend repairs. Pete has a great knowledge of older homes and the repair work he did was excellent. His team is friendly, professional and all areas were clean when the work was finished. We have hired Pete again for additional work. This included repair and painting of an exterior stucco wall, drywall repair, painting and furniture staining. I highly recommend Pete and The Painting People! Pete has expertise in many areas. If you want excellent painting and/or high quality restoration of wood, plaster, drywall, furniture and more call Pete. I recommend checking his website!

This really exemplifies Pete's generosity and support of grass-roots community projects. The property today looks really fabulous and I am very grateful for Pete's continued support and enthusiasm. I am very fortunate to have discovered him and that's thanks to Angie's List!
Description of Work: On this occasion, Pete and his crew helped me paint the exterior of the Green Corner Studios and Marketplace building at 6524 Montgomery Rd. This building was formerly a gas station and I purchased it several years ago and began to renovate it and the surrounding property. The property was either vacant or under-used for many years. I have converted it into an art gallery and studio space for artists. Pete and his employees along with several volunteers form the community painted the exterior of the building during the course of a weekend.

FURNITURE MOVING WAS DONE TO THE CENTER OFTHE ROOM AND WELL PROTECTED,WHEN FINISHED FURNITURE WAS PUT BACK IN PLACE NICELY (THIS PART OF THE JOB WAS DONE QUITE WELL.MOST OF THE HOLES AND DENTS WERE REPAIRED BUT NOT ALL.EXCEPT FOR A FEW RUNS, OVERRUNS AND THIN CUT-INS IN THE CORNERS THE WALLS WERE COVERED COMPLETELY AND UNIFORMLY.THE PAINTER THAT DID THE MASTER BEDROOM DID NOT DO A GOOD JOB. THE CUT-IN LINE WHERE THE BLUE WALLS MEET THE WHITE CEILING IS VERY WAVY (WHITE-ON-BLUE AND BLUE-ON-WHITE). ALSO IN THIS ROOM HE USED BLUE PAINT FROM TWO DIFFERENT BATCH MIXES. THE DIFFERENCE IN SHADES IS SO SUBTLE IT WAS A LONG TIME BEFORE IT WAS DISCOVERED BUT THE CORNERS AND AROUND THE WINDOW ARE A DIFFERENT SHADE THAN THE REST OF THE WALL.
