They are fine. You make an appointment with them and they are here, they do their work and that is the beginning and the end of it. They are pretty knowledgeable. They sure come when they tell you they are coming and they are good about phoning ahead. It is obvious that my hearing is poor at this point so I make sure that they understand that. So if I am working in the basement and they are at the front door I won’t even know they are here since I don’t hear the door bell. Anybody who comes here is told the same thing. Price wise I find them competitive.

I have used Willis One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning in the past in my old house. I would give them an 'A' all the way across the board. As far as them being able to assess the problems here I give them an 'A'. I haven't had the work done and I will have the work done in the next 30 days to correct the problem that the previous service provider left. My house has zoning. The other company's installer cut the wire to the building's boxes and left it. The system in the house was never able to heat properly or cool properly. Over the course of the year when I kept asking the other company, they came out and they added some duct lines to my daughter's room which helped my daughter's room but really took away from the rest of the house. Every time I call them to balance the system, they never came out and did any of that. They were always looking at the furnace if the furnace is working properly or if the heat pump was running properly. They never addressed the problem at hand. The do a lot of installs and I was actually disappointed. I actually contacted them through Home Depot. They were both, on Angie's List and a provider for Home Depot. Willis One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning haven't done the work yet. The last time they came was in December of last year.

$450 for a thirty minutes service call on a twenty dollar transformer. I discussed my concern with the customer service manager, Mary Andrews and emailed Joe Gertz, the GM, the cost of the part from Grainger, but the company did nothing. I had them out three times in two months and found there pricing doesn't make sense as at times I was charged a $95 service fee and other times was not.

Our heatpump system and back-up heat was not working - our thermostat was blank. The technician arrived in a timely manner, was courteous, polite and made sure he didn't track snow/wet into my home. He quickly found our issue, it was a minor shorted wire, and got us up and running! I will request Jim the technician in the future!

Called Willis to service our air conditioner. They "fixed" it only to have to come out a month later to "fix" it again, then again the next summer. Each time, charging a service fee and each time an issue dealing with their scheduling desk. One time, the serviceman didn't even show up because of a lack of communication with their call center and the dispatch. After 4 service calls, each with a different diagnosis and a total of over $800 in repair and still no working A/C, we finally called a different company who easily diagnosed and fixed the problem for good. I feel ripped off and misled by Willis and will never recommend them to anyone.

Willis One-Hour Heating & Air Conditioning installed three (3) TRANE Heating units when my house was built 8 years ago. For 8 years now, Willis has been doing the maintenance service on these units twice a year. In October, the Willis tech was on the maintenance service call at my home, and after inspecting the first TRANE Heater, he says that he found a "crack in my heat exchanger." He says that the unit is unsafe and needs repair ($1200) or even better, he recommends getting a new unit (around $5000+) because "this is when these heaters start to have major problems." I told him that I'm not going to replace an 8 year old heater, then he tries to tell me that the unit is unsafe and that they have "financing options." He shows me a paper copy of what a cracked heat exchanger looks like, then shows me on the camera the "crack" he found. Needless to say, the crack he found using the Super HD camera doesn't look like the pictures he showed me of a cracked heat exchanger. I had him continue to the 2nd unit, and he says that he found a crack in that heat exchanger as well!! Again, he tries to convince me to get new heaters. I told him that was not going to happen. He shows me on the camera (because I asked to see it this time) and again, the "crack" doesn't look like the crack in the printed picture of what one should look like. He then went to the 3rd furnace, and low and behold he finds another "crack" in that heat exchanger as well. I had him show me the camera again. So I waited for him to write up the paperwork and he makes me sign papers that have (in big bold letters) "NOTIFICATION OF UNSAFE APPLIANCE", tags all 3 of my units as unsafe, and puts a card on the thermostat saying that "MY APPLIANCE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF DUE TO AN UNSAFE CONDITION." He then turns off my thermostat. Complete scare tactics, since there were NO ELEVATED LEVELS OF CARBON MONOXIDE at all during his testing!!! So the tech gives me an estimate to repair the units at approximately $1200 per unit!!! (By the way, I later found out that the heat exchanger is a 20-year warranty covered item through TRANE.) The tech then convinces me to give him a refundable deposit of $100 per unit ($300 total) to order the part and get in the queue to have the repairs made. The next day, I called Duke energy, and they came out and found ZERO readings of Carbon Monoxide, and the Duke rep alerted me of a troubleshooter story on Local 12 about the SAME EXACT STORY AS MINE with Willis' One-Hour Heating and Cooling. I then called the manufacturer TRANE, and explained to them the situation. They were extremely skeptical of Willis finding material cracks in ALL THREE of my heat exchangers on the same day, on 8 year old furnaces, when there is a 20-year warranty on heat exchangers. TRANE highly recommended getting a 2nd opinion. I not only got a 2nd opinion, but got a 3rd opinion as well given the scare tactics and the dangers with Carbon Monoxide (not to mention having Duke Energy give me their opinion as well). BOTH of the other two HVAC companies found NOTHING wrong with the TRANE units, and said that I should get at least 20 years of service from these units. They both said that it was ridiculous to tag the units as unsafe. That was all I needed to know that Willis One-Hour was a completely unethical company, and they tried to take advantage of me. I had the manufacturer (TRANE), Duke Energy, and TWO other independent HVAC companies tell me a completely different story vs what Willis told me. To make my situation even more pleasant, I needed to get my refund of the $300 deposit from Willis directly, then pursue my $460 refund of the annual maintenance contract for 3 heaters from their parent company. When I sent an email to their parent company (Home Warranty of America - The Orange Company), they tell me that it would take 6 weeks to process! 6 weeks??!! So I fought back on that as well, and threatened to put a dispute in with my credit card company if I didn't get a refund within the week. I'm sick to my stomach when I see the yellow Willis van in driveways as I drive through my neighborhood. I called one neighbor who had the Willis van in his driveway, and he was told the same garbage story about the cracked heat exchanger. I got to him prior to his appointment to repair the heat exchanger. He cancelled his repair appointment with Willis and saved $1200. Willis One-Hour has this silly offer to have a 2nd opinion free of charge, but it has to be SOMEONE FROM WILLIS! They have a clear agenda-- why in the world would I want a 2nd opinion from one of their other service techs?? That is why I got two other independent opinions. I wasn't going to risk any issue of carbon monoxide in my home after their scare tactics of "tagging" my furnaces, "tagging" and TURNING OFF my thermostat (to scare everyone in my household), and making me sign documents with bold letters stating-- incorrectly-- that my "furnace is unsafe." It clearly was not unsafe. Even if they still try to stick to their story of the "cracks", my Carbon Monoxide levels were at ZERO. So my appliance was NOT ever unsafe. Last thing-- this was a big ticket rip-off, so I did my due diligence. They try to stand behind a document from the American Gas Association (written in 1986!) saying that if there are cracks in the heat exchanger, there is reason for replacement. What I found out was that there are several industry "fact sheets" out there. The Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), also has a fact sheet that says if there are no traces of Carbon Monoxide, and a Combustion Analyzer readings are normal, then the heat exchanger is fine. It also states "Furnace Heat Exchangers joints are not hermetically sealed, so a small amount of leakage is normal. If there are any abnormal splits, cracks or holes, the heat exchangers must be replaced." I had 2 other experts say that the "cracks" Willis is calling out are NORMAL since these exchangers are not hermetically sealed, and there were NO ELEVATED LEVELS OF CARBON MONOXIDE. The readings were as low as they come. Frankly, I was told that there is NO REASON to even use a camera scope if there are no flame disturbances or elevated levels of CO. This is part of their scam. By the way, Trane no longer recognizes Willis as an authorized service dealer!! I wonder why?
Description of Work: Willis One-Hour conducted the annual tune-up of the 3 heaters I have in my home. The tech (Al) was on-time and clean in doing the tune-up, but has been classically trained in unethical business practices. BEWARE OF THE "CRACKED HEAT EXCHANGER" SCAM. They use scare tactics to convince you that you need a very expensive (unnecessary) repair, or that you need to (prematurely) replace your furnace for thousands of dollars because your current furnace is "unsafe." Get a 2nd opinion. If the scare tactics get to you, then get a 3rd opinion. I did, and I'm convinced that Willis is as unethical as they come. You can do a Google search of a troubleshooting piece done on March 26, 2013 by retired Local 12 (WKRC CBS) consumer advocate reporter Howard Ain—specifically featuring this ploy by Willis One-Hour. These people at Willis cannot be trusted.

Response from One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning - Cincinnati
I’m writing in regards to your recent Angie’s List review of our company. I understand we were out to your home on 10-27-13 for a heating tune up. Along with performing heating tune ups on your 3 furnaces we also completed a routine safety check of your heating systems to be sure it was safe for continued operation and discovered there were multiple cracks in all 3 heat exchangers causing an unsafe condition. Out of the 1000’s of Trane furnaces we service each year this condition is discovered in nearly 15% of them. We actively have Trane engaged with this problem as well as the US-CPSC (United States Consumer Products Safety Commission) to get to the bottom of the root cause of the problem and as of lately Trane has been willing to share in the cost of replacing these defective – unsafe heat exchangers on top of standing behind the 20 year part warranty. We are actively trying to get Trane to also issue a service bulletin to make their dealers aware of this problem so their dealers (along with other companies) stop turning back on unsafe furnaces and unknowingly place people in harms way. We have only discovered 2 of these in the past 2 years that posed an immediate very serious safety risk with very elevated levels of CO in the home, but that is 2 too many. Since most of these furnaces do not pose a very serious safety risk at time of service we yellow tag the furnace instead of red tagging the furnace, and only turn the furnace off at the thermostat instead of the gas and electric supply to the furnace. We also fill out the notification of unsafe appliance sheet and clearly mark there was no CO in the home at time of service and the furnace has been turned off at the thermostat. Because of the 2 furnaces we have seen 1st hand with immediate very serious safety risks, we cannot recommend you do nothing and ignore the problem and we cannot recommend you continue to use the furnace as if nothing is wrong, however we do clearly list in big bold letters “Do nothing” as an option on the notification sheet that you can choose as an option if you wish to do so. After all, it is your furnace, your home and your choice. All we can do is properly, accurately and professionally identify any problems with your system including any safety concerns and educate you on what your options are to correct these issues. What you choose to do with the information is up to you. From the sounds of your complaint Willis One Hour is the only company who did this correctly out of the 4 companies you had to your home and yet somehow we are the ones accused of providing a disservice to our clients. Even though this has happened before with the Howard Ain story due to uneducated HVAC contractors offering their opinion to a serious problem they know very little if anything at all about. It is my duty and my responsibility that I take very seriously to keep my service team educated and up to speed on new technologies and newly discovered safety concerns to insure the thousands of clients we serve are safe and their HVAC system is in good working order each and every year. Trane has never denied or even questioned the 20 year part warranty. They are very aware of this problem. The only reason we decided to no longer be a Trane dealer is because of their pricing. We are able to stay competitive in the market by selling Bryant equipment instead of Trane. This is the only reason we switched. To be clear, Willis chose to stop being a Trane dealer, not the other way around. Trane would love to have our business back but they can’t or won’t compete with Bryant’s pricing. I understand there are different companies telling clients “Trane dropped Willis”. It simply isn’t so. We very stringently follow all the 3rd party guidelines and recommendations when it comes to inspecting heat exchangers. These 3rd party industry guidelines are published by AHRI, AGA, ACCA and also the International Fuel Gas Code to name a few. I am very familiar with the AHRI document “Guideline X-2009”. Under section 4.1 it clearly states that if the flame disturbances cannot be corrected by eliminating air leaks near the burners, refer to section 4.5 for physical inspection of the heat exchanger. Therefore it is instructing you to skip sections 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 where it talks about CO readings and the use of a combustion analyzer. The multiple cracks in your heat exchangers are directly below where the flames are entering the heat exchanger, as air from the blower is pushed and in some cases “scooped” and pushed into the flue gas passageway, it has no choice but to cause flame disturbance. Again, it was I who helped Trane understand how to read the document nearly 2 years ago and how it clearly explains to skip steps 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 where it talks about CO readings and combustion analyzer readings when the flame disturbances cannot be corrected. In section 4.5 it recommends not to use water or smoking agents to test for leaks due to the heat exchanger is not hermetically sealed and a very small amount of leakage is normal. They put this in there because for many years heat exchangers were hermitically sealed and using water or smoking agents to see if any leaked out or leaked through the heat exchanger was a very good way to test if they were defective. It goes on to say “If there are any abnormal splits, cracks or holes, the heat exchanger must be replaced”. I would agree 100% these heat exchangers are not sealed 100% and will leak a very small amount of water if filled up with water. I would also agree with AHRI 100% that if an abnormal split, crack or hole is discovered the heat exchanger must be replaced. Abnormal by definition according to Merriam-Webster dictionary: “different from what is normal or average: unusual especially in a way that causes problems”. In my mind this simply means any split, crack or hole that was not in the heat exchanger when the furnace was new. These are absolutely “abnormal cracks” we have discovered in all 3 of your heat exchangers. If we do not follow the industry standards to the letter we would be no different than the countless companies making up their own guidelines as they go and doing what they see fit for different circumstances. Sadly, many times the guidelines are ignored or not understood which causes countless problems for everyone involved. Trane’s heat exchanger problem was recently highlighted in a revised edition of a well known trade publication from Heat Exchanger Experts. The specific failure with your heat exchanger is outlined in his book with several pictures of the problem area showing the cracks. These are likely the pictures my technician was sharing with you to help you better understand the problem. Ellis Prach is the owner of the company and the author of the book along with owning and operating his own HVAC business with 40 years total experience in the HAVC field. He has dedicated his life to understanding heat exchanger failures of all types along with the safety risks they pose. He also travels the country training and showing HVAC service technicians how to identify safety risks in heat exchangers along with first hand knowledge of what can happen if these problems remain undetected and unrepaired. He is known as the nation’s foremost “expert” when it comes to heat exchangers of any brand, make, model or age. He is often called as an expert witness in wrongful death law suites due to any contractor or manufacture negligence that pertains exclusively to heat exchangers that caused someone to loose their life. He is very much in the loop and has a clear understanding of this specific problem you and many others are having with your Trane furnace. Here is a link to his website for more information: http://heatexchangerexperts.com/ at the bottom of his home page is all of his contact information including address, phone number and e-mail. He is a busy man but happy to discuss heat exchangers or specific heat exchanger problems with anyone. In regards to you finding out later the heat exchanger has a 20 year warranty through Trane makes it sound like my technician did not inform you the heat exchanger had a 20 year OEM part warranty on it. On the face of the invoice he very clearly circled the preprinted words “heat Exchanger in warranty” along with the quote to replace. I’m not sure how that was misunderstood. An abnormally cracked heat exchanger is an unsafe condition that “must be replaced” per the AHRI guidelines. The AHRI guideline says nothing about if the crack is abnormal AND the furnace is emitting CO into the home, then it “must be replaced”. No, the guideline is very clear what must be done with a cracked heat exchanger no matter of CO in the home or not. This is because no one, not Willis or any other company can predict when this known safety concern will turn into a serious health risk for you and your family. If we could predict that we would just schedule the heat exchanger replacement the day before and all would be well. In addition, these cracks don’t heal themselves, go away or disappear as time passes. With every cycle of the furnace heating up and cooling down the cracks grow longer and wider and become more and more of a safety risk. This is exactly why the guidelines are so specific about this problem. They do not want anyone to say “the furnace is not putting CO into the home so therefore it must be safe to use”. We have a duty and a responsibility to educate you on the condition, share your options and leave the decision in your hands. I know it can be very frustrating and confusing when you are receiving conflicting information from different sources. This is why I am more than willing to send a senior technician, my field supervisor or even myself back to your home at no cost to you and if necessary, remove the heat exchangers from your furnaces to show you exactly where the cracks are located, how big they are and exactly what they look like without the aide of a camera. I would also highly recommend to have the other HVAC companies, Duke Energy or whoever else you would like there at the same time so we can also educate them on where and how to inspect a Trane heat exchanger for this safety concern. We have professionally done this several times with different companies in our service area to help them understand the problem and to prevent them from giving our client’s false information in the future and unknowingly placing our clients in harms way. If you would allow us to come to your home and show you and whoever you like this safety concern it would be very much appreciated. When you and the other companies see that it is exactly what we say it is I only ask that you update your negative review of our company. You owe it to your household to have this rechecked and verified in the presence of the other companies who disagree with us. There is too much at risk. My goal is for you to be completely safe and completely satisfied even if that means another company replaces the heat exchangers. As far as your neighbor goes who has also received the same false information you received, I would be more than happy to also inspect his furnace or furnaces as well with whomever he would like present. I understand you did not knowingly give him false information that could lead to a safety risk for him and his family no more than the other companies did when they gave you the false information, however the facts remain. My team of service professionals understands our company’s values and ethics very well. We talk about them and discuss them so I know they understand them. Although it is difficult to have your ethics publicly challenged by a perfect stranger I understand it is not personal and is based on the perception the false information presented to you. Please call me anytime to discuss. I can normally have a senior tech, a field supervisor or myself at your home at a specific set time with 24 to 48 hours notice. Please allow me to help you regain trust in our company and keep you safe while doing so.

Service man (Al) had been here before, remembered me and the unit, what had been done before. A big plus is he is knowledgable about geothermal units and top of the line at working with them. Personable, professional and all went well. Arrived on time, took his time to do a through job. Very pleased with the service and company; I plan to use again (repeat customer, anyway) and would highly recommend to anyone.

Everything turned out well. I purchased the unit from them and they also installed it. They have several different manufacturers for the unit, but I went with the one they recommended. The installation went well. They were able to install it the day after I purchased. Everything has been working well so far. The unit also came with a 10 year warranty.
Description of Work: They put in a new A/C unit. They also service my units in the spring and fall.

Everything has turned out well so far. We purchased the unit from them and they installed. They had a couple of brands to choose from. The installation went fine. The technicians showed up on time and installed the units. They cleaned up well after themselves. They also hauled away the old units. They did a very good job.
Description of Work: They installed a new furnace and A/C unit.

They will give you a discount if you have an emergency. They have different technicians that come out, but they are all very professional. They are very clean and timely as well.
