Mills Fence Company

We contacted Mills. Their representative came to the site, took measurements, and we described the type and look of fence we wanted built. The Mills estimate was more favorable that other estimates. We were very surprised when a sub-contractor (McGee Fencing) rather than Mills fencing showed up to do the work. Other work provided in this sub-division by Mills was excellent, and not performed by a sub-contractor, leading us to select Mills for the job. The cedar posts were supposed to be trimmed at the height of the pickets, but were trimmed lower before we could correct the sub-contractor.

I complained to the company.. Put two complaints into the Better Business Bureau Both complaints were closed by Mills Fence themselves saying the problem had been taken care of. No one from Mills Fence bothered to call me back or come out to even look at the fence.

They did a great job when I finally got them out to my house to install the fence.

I visited the Mills Office and a gentlemen took the information and we discussed options. I felt he should have gone into more detail...at least afterwards. This is the biggest fence company in Cincinnati! On the day of installation, one, that's right, one subcontractor arrived and proceeded to install the fence...by himself, a LOT of fence. I had ordered a vinyl covered chain link driveway gate and another small gate. Next day, the fence guy comes with these huge six foot chainlink gates that look like they should be used at San Quentin, and not at a residence. (Which is why the guy at Mills should have SHOWN me what he was talking about.) In the end, the fence looks fine and seems sturdy, but I think I could have had the same result with less money.

It went great. They were very responsive and polite from bid through installation. They arrived promptly, when they said they would, and they did a quality job fast. They even worked hard to not damage all my existing shrubbery (which I am thankful for). They even installed some cross beams on challenging declines to make sure that my dog couldn't escape. Excellent job overall. Great quality, price, and service. Would definitely use them again.

Did well. He came and estimated and submitted a good detailed bid that included a drawing for the fence permit.

My backyard is fenced on three sides. I contacted Mills Fence Co. for an estimate to build fence gates to completely fence in the yard and they provided an onsite inspection and estimate in short order. I signed and faxed the estimate the next day and then did not hear from them for two weeks. When I called their offices, they did not have a record of my signed agreement. I then sent them a scanned version via e-mail, which they confirmed receipt of. Then nothing. Not a call, not a note, no one contacted me to schedule the work. Then, out of the blue, 2 months later, someone from Mills called to tell me that they would start work on the fence the next day. I said thanks, but no thanks! Completely unprofessional behavior!

When we bought this house and before we moved in, we had Mills Fence come out to get some fencing done for us. We have an acre of land and they fenced in three quarters of it. It was a Kentucky board horse farm fence with a square fencing on the outside. They were courteous and prompt. They also had the fence done in 3 days. Even though we live in city atmosphere, we wanted a country look and not like the chain-link fence. We liked the way the fencing was done and it looks like it was meant to be there. It still looks beautiful. We had to have a piece of the fence moved, as the neighbors said that we were 2 feet by 20 feet on their property. So, we had to call Mills Fence and they just charged us for the labor. We changed our mind at the last minute, as to how we wanted the lay of fence and he just miscalculated on one of the sides. It was nobody’s fault. I will continue to use their services in the future, if needed.

They were able to do the work quicker than I expected and they were prompt in returning phone calls and answering any questions.

They were very responsive and scheduled a meeting soon after I called them. They also informed me before coming to survey the situation and explained everything what needed to be done. He was very knowledgeable and it was a pleasant experience with them. I got a quote from them after a couple of days and the price was reasonable.

We requested a heavy duty security gate to replace a twenty-year old gate that was falling apart. The replacement gate is beautiful. The Company used the finest quality cedar with extra-sturdy posts. It is a large heavy gate but swings open and shut with the touch of a finger. Beautiful piece of work.

They were punctual on the budgeting. Their customer service was great they answered my questions and did what I requested.

Mills fence was very quick to respond to my initial call for an estimate. They sent someone out within two days. The man that came out gave me an estimate of both a two rail and three rail split rail fence. I asked him if there was any difference between the two besides one railing, he said "no." I then signed the contract and the company quickly set up a time to begin. Unfortunately this was the time when the big wind storm came through town and the power had been knocked out. I did not receive a call that they would be delayed until two hours before they were to be at my house. They then came two days later, when I was informed of an approx foot and a half difference between two and three rails. Unfortunately, the gentleman that gave me the estimate did not give me correct information. Two rails was no where near high enough for my dog. Therefore, they had to reorder my fencing, tack on $200 dollars to the given estimate, and reschedule again. Once again, communication failed when they said it would be Monday or Tuesday when they could be out and they didn't call until Wednesday to say they could be out Friday. They could not get far on the fence that Friday because they did not bring their jackhammer to break up the rocks in my ground (clearly not their fault), and they had to come back Saturday. The fence still was not completed because they had mismeasured one gate and needed longer rails for another section. Communication failed again with when they would be out and it was later than they stated. The job did get done one evening when I was not home, I almost didn't realize they had come to finish. All in all, they did a beautiful job with the fence and the group that installed it was very nice. The communication is just awful. They underestimate timing a lot. They stated they would be out Saturday mid morning to finish the fence and they didn't arrive until 11:30. That is not mid morning, it's almost the afternoon. I just wish they're communication skills had been much better, not just with me but with each other.

Nice, prompt and provided immediate estimate. No decisions yet as we are evaluating options at the moment including invisible fencing. ($3,500.00)

Mills made it easy to come in and pick out exactly what we wanted. The order was completed promptly and pick-up was fairly straightforward. The quality of our cedar fenceposts and gate hardware was good. No complaints at all. Certainly a good way to simplify things if you want to build a fence and gate yourself but not from scratch.

They gave me the best estimate (including a 5% Angie's List discount!) and they were able to squeeze my job in earlier than they originally planned. The fence looks awesome and everyone I dealt with was very courteous.

We contacted Mills Fence in January of 2008 to fence in the last bit of our yard that was unfenced. They quickly gave us an estimate and a plan to accommodate fencing around our driveway, which cuts through the yard. They were able to come out and complete our fence within days of us calling, which was great. The installer accidentally cut through a drain pipe in our yard while installing, but repaired the damage for us quickly. I'd highly recommend Mills.

They were bad at scheduling. I had to keep calling to get them here. They did a good job. The gate is now rubbing against the fence post. I felt like the price was o.k.

They did a great job of getting out the old posts and installing the new ones. The new fence is very attractive. The fence was put in one day and the gate was installed another day. They did not call and let me know when they were coming out the second day; I just came home and there it was. The job site was cleaned up very well and the old fencing was hauled away. A 5% Angie's List discount was applied to the cost; there were no additional charges over the estimate.

They did an excellent job, never knew they had been there because the cleaned up when they were done. They arrived when they said they finished in the time frame they said they would.

Mills seems to be a respectable company that has been around for quite some time. We worked with JR Slusher who was very courteous and delivered us an estimate that seemed fair. The trouble began when the crew arrived. They started digging holes without any regard what the end result would look like. If we would have let them complete the job, the end corners of our fence would have looked horrible with too many posts coming too close together. You would expect that a crew with the type of experience they claim to have would try to spread out the posts more evenly for a better look. Then I also realized that the quality of the wood was subpar. The company brought in untreated pine versus the typical locus posts and hemlock rails that are being used by other companies. In addition, the wood looked absolutely horrible and the holes in the posts were extremely crudely cut. To top it all off, the crew managed to crack a drainage pipe right next to a very visible downspout pipe and sump pump pipe. I gave the Mills Fence company the order to stop the work and remove all materials from my property. As the Mills Fence company did not charge us anything we did not pursue any legal action for the damages.

They did very good work. The put in the original fence and are good whenever I need help with it.

I would not go to another fence company! They listen to you, and listen to the reasons you are having the fence put in--for instance, they told me that they installed the gates to open only one way so my dog could not push it open. They really listen to their customers and put themselves in their places. I would give them an A+ if I could! We have had them respond within a day when we had a portion of the fence knocked down, and they also responded quickly when I discovered my dog could push himself out beneath the fence. They are just wonderful.

I did not have any real problem with them. There was a long period of time between starting the fence and finishing the job because they did not have the gate, which make it a little inconvenient, but the fence does look just fine.

We only got an estimate for future reference but they were able to walk the yard and provide us with an idea of the work to be performed. They mailed us a quote a few days later. Also, they seemed really busy and weren't able to do the work for about a month or so. They mentioned having to do the work in pieces since the fences were different. They use different people for different types of fences. I think they use a lot of 'outside' help. Estimated cost was $3,000.
