I found LIberty Woodworking through a Google Search. Due, in part, to how horrible my experience w/ this company has been, I joined Angie's List to hopefully help make better service choices in the future. I spoke with Rick Campbell, the owner of Liberty Woodworking, because I wanted to have a computer armoire made. We spoke on the phone and I told him what I was interested in and sent pictures of different armoires I liked. We arranged to meet at my house to review his design. He didn't tell me there was a design charge until we met and since I hadn't asked upfront if there was a charge, I felt obligated to pay it ($250). This was a red flag I wish I hadn't ignored. I made some changes to the plans and in early March, 2012 paid the $550 more (50% total cost). The piece was to be complete in 4-5 weeks. It is now almost October and I do not have it. Rick Campbell has not returned an email since July. Since March there have only been excuses and broken promises. Once he said he moved his shop. Another time he said he was caught on a big job that was taking longer than expected. Another time he said he was injured and couldn't work for a while. He offered these reasons in response to my emails/calls, vs. initiating contact to keep me updated. I could have believed one or even two excuses, especially if he contacted me to keep me abreast of the situation. I am an understanding person and things happen to inconvenience/change plans. Each telling of the reason/excuse ended with a promise that he was almost finished and should be calling in a week to set delivery. Of course, the delivery calls never happened. I have not heard from him since July, though I have contacted him. I recently googled him because I thought perhaps he had died and his family didn't know all his customers for follow-up. I didn't want to think poorly of the man if he didn't complete the job b/c he died. He appears to be alive and, based on reviews I now find easily, has followed this same approach with other people (taking 50% and not completing the job). Buyer beware!
Description of Work: What Rick Campbell (LIberty Woodworking) actually did: - Designed a custom computer armoire (CAD drawing), though he charged me a $250 design fee that he never mentioned upfront. That's it. He never delivered the piece. He took 50% of the total cost and it's been 6 1/2 months and I have no piece and he won't respond. It was supposed to take 4-5 weeks.

It was a nightmare.
Description of Work: On February 22nd of this year I signed a contract with Rick Campbell of Liberty Woodworking to fabricate custom cabinets for my new home. Total price for a full kitchen and three bathroom vanities was $11,100. I paid him a deposit of $5,604 when we signed the contract. On April 11th we completed the design and I gave him the final go-ahead to fabricate the cabinets. He said 4 weeks. That date passed and I gave him another 3 weeks. Mr.Campbell gave me one excuse after another. To date (July 13, 2011) he has not delivered even one complete cabinet. He has held up my project for two months and I had to pay $1,940 extra rent for temporary housing and two extra months of interest on my construction loan. Last week I gave up and hired another contractor. Mr. Campbell refuses (or is unable) to refund any of my money. He states he does not have it. Neither does he have enough money to pay the rent on his workspace. The landlord locked him out the first week of July. I have also learned that he has 10 other projects he is working on including another complete kitchen. No doubt he will default on those also. This man should be put out of business.
