Very professional. Very reasonable. They had seven people come to take down two trees. One was a large tree that was storm damaged. The other one was at a spot that I really thought it was a problem and should go at the same time and stump grinding and everything. They had it all done like within an hour and a half...cleanup and everything. Their coordination of their people on the ground was remarkable. His father founded the business. I do A's all down the line on him.
Description of Work: I have used various tree services over the years. My favorite one to date is JR's Trees.

JR and his crew safely took down the maple, laying it in the yard between my house and garden bed. They cut it up into 18-inch sections so I could chop it for firewood, and moved the firewood over to my chopping area. They also ground the stump, and hauled away the small branches. This is the third time, I believe, that I've had JR take trees down for me. I've used other tree services, but JR is always cheaper and has been able to do it more quickly too. Great work, and extremely professional and friendly people. I won't use anyone else for tree service in the future and would recommend JR without reservation.

They were fantastic. They just couldn't be any better. They took down part of our fence and the neighbor's even raved about how careful they were and what a good job they did and how fast they worked. They cleaned everything up behind them. I got a bunch of cards and passed them out to anybody that asked because they were wonderful.

Description of Work: JRs Trees took down two trees in our backyard and removed the wood. One of these trees was about 100 years old and huge, about 6 feet in diameter! The work was done safely, neatly, efficiently, and quickly. The men were polite and cleaned up as they went along. We couldn't have asked for any better work. They left the area spotless. I highly recommend JRs Trees for best price and best work. |

Exceeded our expectations. We used them 6 years ago at our last house on five acres and had a great experience/price. This time we had 9 towering maples on our 1/2 acre lot in Pierce Township. They all had to be climbed because they were close to house and the neighbors & no room for equipment. We decided to get a few estimates, but this company again won hands down. They came within a week of the estimate (had some rain), with a crew of 7 and did a great job. Provided proof of insurance in advance which all checked out. No problems and did everything we agreed, cleaned up and even did some extra trimming & stump removal, wood carrying. These trees were taller than our 2 story and one was really big next to neighbors privacy fence & shed. Handled it all skillfully. Gave us some good tips on ornamental trees that would look good in the backyard. We try to get routine tree work scheduled in early spring or late winter outside the mad rush. But if it's busy tree cutting season, I will just get on the schedule. Would be worth the wait. Long time Family company from what I understand. It was a plus that they were all cheerful and helpful. Everyone we spoke to had a smile and genuinely wanted to make sure we were satisfied. Wow. We will use them again and recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed 9 very tall trees near house removed brush/ stump grinding/rake & clean up. Neighbor next door wanted the wood, so they piled it to the side for him.

Description of Work: It took them forever to come out for an estimate and then actual service. As a result, more trees fell down, and I had to end up paying more for service than the initial estimate. I guess our initial job was too small for them to place priority on our service. We would not use them again.

had come across a place where he could get full size, grown tree. He offered to remove the old, grind the stump, and plant a new tree at an extremely good price which I accepted. They were very meticulous about cleaning up and hauled everything away. Overall, it was a great experience!

The crew that did all this work was a 3 man crew and then later in the day another JR Trees crew came over to help our crew finish up. The job was done professionally and you could tell this crew cared about the quality of their work. They constantly were asking my opinion and feedback. This meant no surprises for either party. They left the driveway and yard in excellent condition. Would recommend them to anyone and will use them again. JR has plenty of backlog of work so it takes some time for him to get around to you but be patient.
Description of Work: JRs Trees cleared and removed trees along approximately 300' of my driveway. I wanted to open up the driveway to more sun and wind and they definitely helped to accomplish this. They also took down a fairly large tree in my back yard and removed other low hanging branches of other trees.

Needed 14 Ash trees removed from my property. JR Trees were able to remove all trees and leave remaining landscaping untouched. I was never concerned about the safety of my property or home as the trees came down (unlike the tree services my neighbors used) Because they were so busy at that time, we were put on a waiting list. We agreed to be available for a last minute appointment in-between larger jobs. When we got the call, they showed up when they said they would - very punctual and professional. Can't beat their prices - very affordable.

We had a damaged 95-foot elm that we had cabled together, limbed up, and lived with because the estimates for removing it were so high (generally about $6000). A friend introduced us to JR Philpot, who agreed to take down that tree and two others for $3400. Almost too good to be true! But it wasn't. Junior and his crew did a great job. The trees were not readily accessible, which is one reason earlier estimates were so high, but these guys knew how to handle it. They carefully cabled and lifted limbs and sections of the trunks with their crane, lowered them gently onto the driveway, where they sawed the trunks and chipped the limbs, then loaded everything into their trucks. The crane operator told me they removed about 40 tons of wood that day! They came when they said they would, were courteous and professional, and cleaned up behind themselves. If we had discovered JR's Trees earlier, we could have saved ourselves a lot of time, money and landscape damage from falling limbs. I highly recommend them and will use them again when the need arises.

(Please see above as I could not copy it and place it here.) In addition to their skillful and thorough removal of the trees and their stumps, I really appreciated JR's flexibility in examining the second oak and giving us some suggestions other than its removal. Once we decided what we wanted to do, JR personally went up on the crane to secure the cable to the tree and treated various sections which could be problematic. He made an adjustment to his original price which I felt was more than fair. If I ever need any more tree work, JR Trees would be first on my list. His whole crew worked well as a team and demonstrated professionalism leaving the yard better than thaey found it.
Description of Work: I would highly recommend JR Trees for taking down large as well as small trees, and removing the related debris. Originally we spoke to them when they were removing our neighbor's large oak tree after it came down in a storm. Our neighbor was very pleased with their work. Not long after that, one of our large oaks was struck by lightening. One side of the tree was blown apart and could not be saved. Since another of our large oaks (115') was also distressed, we decided to have that one taken down at the same time as well to save money in that the first tree required a crane to remove it. On the day the trees were to be taken down, my wife was in tears about loosing the second oak, a major section of which hangs over our house. JR offered to go up into the tree, assess its condition and give us his honest opinion about its status for survivability and danger of falling down. He felt the tree could be saved, if treated and wired to the rest of the tree. JR used heavy cable to wire the tree section in question so that if it did come down,it would swing away from the house. In the meantime, another neighbor seeing their work, asked to have his large dead tree removed as well - which we were thankful for since it could have easily fallen into our yard. Despite its fragile state and it having to be moved over another neighbor's yard, they safely removed it without a hitch.

Juniors' wife was thorough with taking messages and offered helpful advice. The business phone number is also their home phone, so don't be surprised when the phone greeting is simply, "Hello." I did need to phone back to confirm the actual day of the appointment. Junior was quoting other jobs, and he planned to schedule them in order of urgency, once he visually assessed each job. I knew He would arrive one of the next two days, but did have to call for confirmation of the exact date and approximate time. He and his crew did arrive promptly. He was also prompt for the estimate appointment . The crew is well groomed and mannerly. Be careful not to confuse this business with one in another suburb, which has a similar name. (The other also appears on Angie's List.)
Description of Work: A large (30" diameter x 50'-60' tall) ) sycamore tree in the center of my front yard was severely damaged by recent storms. It needed to be completely removed. I had large piles of debris from the storm damage. I also chose to have a (20" diameter x 45' high) locust tree removed at the same time, as it was overhanging my roof and creating problems. The locations necessitated grinding out both stumps, as well. Despite his busy schedule due to the storm, JR arrived within 2 days of my call (the larger tree was leaning toward my house!) to provide an estimate, and scheduled removal for the next day. I was the third of four jobs that day. His excellent crew of 6 additional men worked like troopers in a well-coordinated, efficient effort. Everything, including clean up, was completed within about 2 hours! He arrived with a bucket truck, multi-attachment Bobcat, large chipper, large covered truck to haul away the debris, lots of yard rakes an trash cans, ropes, chain saws, etc. JR (Junior) is fully insured. His father operated the business before him. I found him through friends' referral, as they were very pleased with more than 30 trees he removed for them. I definitely would use him again. He has 24-hour emergency service, offers tree and shrub pruning and trimming, lot/subdivision clearing and more.
