It was fine. I wanted them to do one thing. The guy came out and had a bad back so he basically couldn't do what I wanted him to do. I basically spent $99 on having them stretch out carpets. It was fine. The price was fine. It was kind of a waste of my time to have them out because I had to take time off. He was a nice guy. It was a hassle to have sent out somebody who couldn't get to work right then and there. They kept in contact. He was really professional. He was nice.

The install and the installers were excellent and friendly. The issue started 3 months after install when we noticed one of the seams that was in the middle of the room was noticeable ( this had to be done due to the size of the room). We also had some stains that happened when my 4 year old spilled juice on the floor. We were told that the carpet was resistant to stains ( not dog vomit or other fluids of and animal). I of course called and was told someone by the name of John would call me back. That did not occur and I had to call again. This time I spoke to John who was pleasant and said a man named Rodney? Would call me back. As promised Rodney called me back and spoke to me about the issue. He advised he was busy but would research my issues and call me back next week. ( this day was a Thursday 3 weeks ago). He did say they were busy installing carpet at schools but would call the following Monday and took my number. So now here I sit waiting on the issues to be resolved. I guess once they get my money which was paid in full ( 3200) the day of the order that no other communication or resolution is necessary. As I said the install was fine it's dealing with issues after the fact and the fact I was told I would be called back to deal with the stains and seam.

They did patchwork to our old (gross) carpeting that going destroyed by our dogs... running, and where they bit into a tube of paint (blue paint at that... all over the carpet!) We had 4 places patched. The threshold into our kitchen, the threshold where two rooms met, a spot in our bedroom (Where the paint was spilled), and the bottom of our stairs. At the bottom of our stairs we downsized a grate to make it much smaller. The carpet guys even put down new subflooring to fit the new grate, padded and carpeted the area. We only did patchwork because we will be replacing the entire house's carpet for resale in a couple years. We will be contacting them again! The only downfall (which wasn't their fault) was that they didn't have the same carpet... so they took a swatch of our old carpet and matched it the best they could with what they had in stock. It doesn't look THAT bad. :)

Price was right, they cut and removed all carpet, moved furniture and placed it back. The two installers were professional and very friendly. Only complaint was, once my carpet was ordered and check cashed I had a question for the sales person and emailed him via this site and I never got a response, but prior to the sale he was responsive.

Description of Work: A representative from John Brown Carpet came out on 2-19-15 to look at my carpet. He took some measurements and said the job would cost more than $99 and that he would call me with an estimate the following day, Friday 2-20-15. He called back on Monday 2-23-15 and said he would need an additional $700 to stretch the carpet. That amount was way out of my budget so I'm requesting a credit to credit card on file. Thanks.

Description of Work: They had some problems cutting the tile on the first day Friday 13, 2015 and was coming back on Saturday Feb. 14 and still was having problems with the cutting. It could have been due to the cold weather or bad batch of tile. The reason I hired them was to get it done in 1 day as I did not want the kitchen down long as I could have tiled it but I am kinda slow at it and fast is what we were looking for. I will SAY this, John Brown Carpet it seems stands by customers as at that point I ask for a refund not wanting to keep the kitchen apart any longer, John Brown Carpet agreed and is giving me a full refund and to me that says a lot about the company and YES if later on I need something done I would use John Brown Carpet as it is hard now in days to find a company that really cares about the person that hires them. I give them an A+ and this review should encourage others to look for companies like John Brown Carpet. The job did not work out but it could have been many things including weather related. John Brown Carpet has agreed to refund all the money we gave them for the tile and I will say that Angie's List stands behind their big deals and is returning the cost for the big deal in full which John Brown also agreed to.

Dear Customer, The team here at John Brown Carpet want to thank you for the opportunity to be of service to you. We had a problem with our basement, in which we had about an inch and a half of standing water, and our insurance company sent them out to check it out. The first night the carpet company came out, they sent a crew out that I would not have chosen. They were here for 2 or 3 hours and promised an estimate the next day. The next day, he still did not provide an estimate, and I asked again. He finally brought an estimate the next day, and it was for over $6,500. I knew it was too high, because they only used a sump pump and fans. I called my insurance company, and he did not seem concerned about the cost. Another contractor came out to check it out and estimated the work at $2000. He thought the charge by John Brown Carpet was outrageous, and recommended that we do not pay them and that we call them to finish the work they started. John Brown Carpet left debris, standing water, and wet padding, and when we called to have them finish the work, they said they would have to charge us more to come back out. I got another estimate from a different water damage company, and they estimated the cost around $1,400. The insurance company was willing to pay $5000 for the work. I expected my insurance company to provide a professional water restoration company to do the job well, rather than sending out a carpet company that deals exclusively with insurance companies.

Sunday Feb, 6 we we're called out to the the member's basement. At that time we met with MR. Side, He asked us to take care of the water remediation work. At that time the member signed an "authorization for repairs and payment agreement" to do the work, and to be paid directly by the insurance company. We immediately left to get equipment came back, began pumping water (which was highly contaminated with animal fecal matter) from the basement and setting up fan equipment. When we had almost all of the water out and made arrangements to come back the following day to remove the carpet and pad. Monday, Feb, 9 to found the basement full of water again. Again we pumped the water out and this time removed the majority of the carpet (also contaminated with animal fecal matter) and pad from the basement and continued to run the fans to and pumps because water was still coming into the house. Tuesday Feb, 10 water was still coming in the flow was somewhat less. We pumped the basement out again & removed 2 of our 4 pumps and the last of the carpet and pad with the final trailer load. The end of the evening of Tuesday Feb 10 was the first time we had the opportunity to meet the wife. She informed us that she didn't not want us to do any additional work such as removing drywall, antimicrobial or dehumidifying until such time as we we're able to give her an accurate assessment of the current cost and estimates for the other scopes of work that we had discussed with her husband. It is standard practice in remediation work not to provide a cost estimate before hand due to the nature of the work. Each piece of equipment is charged on a per day basis and with water that is continually coming in it is impossible to tell when the water infiltration will stop. In addition, until Tuesday night when she asked for the current cost, price was never discussed with her husband. His concern was that we remove the water as quickly as possible. Wednesday, Feb, 11. I worked the entire day preparing 5 separate estimates as her husband was now requesting before any more work be done. 1water remediation, 1 demolition of the drywall & antimicrobial, basement waterproofing, 1installing new drywall baseboards, 1 new Carpet. We use an estimating system with standardized pricing that is the insurance industry standard. It is called Xactimate. We do not set the pricing. We use the same pricing as all other remediation company's because it is the insurance industry standard. After doing the estimate which included the removal of the water 3 separate times because of the continual infiltration. I removed many of the hours we actually worked and some of the equipment days to make the cost of the estimate more reasonable for the member's reducing the cost from over $10,000 to slightly over $6,000. Thursday Feb, 12 I spoke with her to arrange to deliver and review all 5 estimates that I had prepared the previous day. We planned to meet at 6 o'clock in the evening At 6 o'clock I arrived at the their residence and no one was home. I waited approximately 1/2 hour at which time her husband arrived even though I had arranged the meeting with his wife. He and I reviewed all 5 estimates in detail. I explained how I had reduced the cost of the remediation. At this time he informed me that he would need to discuss the additional work with her before going forward with it and since the basement was now 99%% dry and she did not want any further work to be done before looking at the estimates. I unhooked and packed up all of our equipment he informed me that he would be in touch very soon to discuss any additional work after he had time to review the estimates with her. This seemed reasonable to me so we shook hands and I left the property somewhere around 8:15 pm. Since that day I have called approximately 15 times and left many voice messages. My phone calls have never been answered and my voice messages have never been returned. Our estimate was approved by the insurance company. It is unfortunate that the home owner's insurance limits are not adequate to cover the amount of damage but this becomes the home owner's responsibility. The arrangements we made with Mr. Side was that we were to proceed with the work (see signed Authorization for repairs and Payment) Based on these facts we expect payment in full for our services. (See attached copy of the invoice). Sincerely, Gannon, John Brown Carpet, 513-709-1330
