We hired Britt and his crew to paint basically the entire first two floors of our house, ~1700 sqft. We solicited quotes from several painting companies, and Britt’s was the best combination of attention to detail and affordability. He charged a fair price and did a great job, with significant patching work as well. His communication was excellent as there ended up needing to be more patching done than first anticipated, and he cleared it with me before proceeding for an extra $100 or so. He was also flexible and was actually able to start the project a few days early and finish early. He gave us an honest opinion on where we could save money too, deciding not to paint some of the ceilings that were in better shape. Overall my wife and I were thrilled with the outcome! I will use Britt and JMJ painting again for future painting jobs. I’m adding photos from during the project as well as the finished product.

We are very pleased with Britt's work. The work happened in increments from November through June, due to the necessity for other work to be completed by the other contractors. Britt was accommodating to the schedule. He recognized that some of the early work might need follow-up adjustments after the other work was done. He not only was right but also was prompt in his follow-up. Britt was punctual and professional. Our house is almost 60 years old and, where issues were presented, Britt proposed practical, cost-effective solutions. The resulting work looks professionally-done and has been favorably commented upon by guests. His workers did an excellent job but Britt either did the work himself or carefully supervised the work done by his employee. When a trim paint looked different in the dining room than anticipated and a different paint was discussed with Britt, he did not hesitate to be positive and get it done.. I had engaged Britt a couple years ago to do painting work on our tennis club and everyone was impressed by his work. It was easy to again engage Britt for our house and we were pleased once again. We would highly recommend Britt's work to anyone. .
Description of Work: Three rooms (kitchen, large family room, dining room) in our house were being substantially remodeled. We asked JMJ Painting (Britt Sang) to do the following: (1) patch holes left by moving electric outlets and ceiling light cans; (2) prep and repair all walls and ceiling, including areas were new plastering occurred; (3) caulk where new doors, appliances, counter tops and cabinets were installed; (4) paint all walls and trim with our selected colors.

Great experience! Britt and crew were punctual, professional, and flexible. I needed an entire level of my home painted in a tight timeframe and Britt made it happen. I will definitely recommend to friends and family.

What a great experience. We were moving back to town, and had used JMJ before. Given our past experience, we asked them to paint the house we were moving into. Some walls and ceilings needed repairs, and every room needed a fresh coat. We also needed minor repairs done to the exterior, and it too needed fresh paint. JMJ did a wonderful job for us. Britt walked us through everything he and his crew could be doing, and he was on site often to make sure everything was to his standards. His guys were polite and professional, and we had no issues with having them around the house while the work was being performed. There were even some areas where I thought it looked great, but Britt was not pleased with the results. He quickly fixed what he felt was not right. We have referred JMJ to our friends, and others have now used him as well. They have all reported being as happy as we are with the results. Britt is professional, he promptly addressed any issues (there were very few) and we are so happy with how our house looks, both inside and out. We will be using JMJ again in the future, there is no doubt.

This was the most unprofessional paint job we have ever had done. This was disappointing since he came highly recommended to us. Our experience with Britt and his crew was very frustrating. Even though it was included in the estimate, there was very little prep work done prior to painting. When we talked to Britt about the lack of preparation prior to application of paint (of window and threshold), he told us that what we were asking for constituted a "restoration." This response came even though he had said something different during the estimate. One painter in the crew was not doing a good job and we had to tell Britt that this painter could not come back--simply too sloppy. Over the course of the job, more than one window was painted shut. Britt had no solution as to how to remedy that--we looked up remedies on line. Glass window panes were covered with paint spots but were reinstalled. Parts of the window were not even painted. We repeatedly told him that his drywall patch job was inadequate and he kept telling us that he would do something about it. He just simply painted over the poorly done patch job. Even though we paid to have the window pains cleaned before being put back in after painting---they were never cleaned, but put back dirty and as mentioned above were covered with paint specs. There was a general pattern that when we pointed out poor quality in the work being performed--Britt often nodded as if he heard us, took notes---but made minor changes--not full corrections.. After he told us the job was finished--we had to go around to all the windows to point out to him where the windows had been improperly painted or sloppily painted. One thing he did do after our final complaints and before we agreed to pay him, was that he did agree to pay for the windows to be washed professionally by another service in order to remove the paint from them. Based upon the multiple estimates we received for this job---you could spend comparable money and get much better quality. We do not recommend this company.

Response from JMJ Painting
These were the most difficult clients I have worked with in over 5 years and over 450 jobs. We agreed to a very specific scope of work and price, including Items that were to be done and what the expected outcome would be. The clients expectations were for a "restoration" level job on an old home with windows that were in poor condition, but I priced the work (and discussed with the clients) that my bid was for an industry standard level of prep. This was accepted by the clients in signing the contract. Many windows were not in working order and one was in a dangerous condition. I did my best to get them working without additional charges. The ceiling drywall patching that was discussed with the client was to patch and blend in with the remaining ceiling, as the client did not want the entire ceiling painted. The client held money from me and I had to threaten to file a lien to get paid. The client was simply trying to get much more work than what they were willing to pay for. I would NOT recommend this client.

First of all let me say that Britt is a very nice person, but I can't say that he is able to control his workers. We had a problem with one of the guy's smoking in the house (we don't smoke) and Britt finally put him on another job. I have rehabbed many homes over the years and worked with many painters, some good some not. Most painters will fix imperfections in walls and ceilings when they prep before they paint. That didn't happen here. Britt never seemed to try to go the extra inch to make the job better. I like nice straight cut in's when the color changes at the ceilings, they had to do some three times and I will have someone else fix. Britt's card says that he does sheetrock but he didn't fix (fill) many of the spots unless they were pointed out to him. They took things down to paint but lost them or just didn't bother to replace. When asked the last time to fix a wall that was not right, he left it for the general to fix. As I said Britt is a nice guy but not a good painter!
Description of Work: Britt was hired to paint the whole inside of our condo that was being completely rehabbed. He was recommended by our general contractor so we hired him.

Response from JMJ Painting
My response to the above review of JMJ Painting is that I was hired by the owner's General Contractor to perform specific painting services. I performed those services in a very professional way and did many additional things that the owner asked for on the job site even though I was not certain that I would be compensated for them. The drywall job should have never been approved by the GC and owner. I tried to fix these areas, but they really needed to be torn out and replaced by the drywaller. It was a very frustrating job for everyone.

Fantastic! Brit is professional and personable, a very hard worker, detailed in his work and cleans up the areas thoroughly at the end of each day. Communicates promptly with any issues that arose, including only painting a small area of the deck stain until I could see what it looked like in case I wanted to add a tint/change the color of the stain (I did and didn't have to buy new stain!). Thankfully he didn't just stain the whole thing when I wasn't home while quietly thinking to himself "boy, this neon orange probably isn't what she was going for based on the way she was talking, this is a mistake, too bad." He did all the work himself except the woodwork repairs, and the person he had do that did an excellent job. He was very flexible in his availability and knew we had a time crunch to get the work done, which he accommodated! I kept adding jobs in our home to his to-do list / initial estimate and he was happy to make time to get them done promptly as well. Terrace Park, OH
Description of Work: Applied permanent stain to large wood deck, outdoor covered porch floor painted, outdoor porch interior wood painted, outdoor painted wood house shingles touch-up painted, large living room ceiling, kitchen ceiling, and one bedroom ceiling painted (including one large patch/seal ), one bathroom painted, entire kitchen cabinets/trim repainted (including removal/ replacement of hardware), bottom half (below chair rail) of another bathrm painted, laundry/storage area floor in basement repainted, touch-ups in finished part of basement walls, replaced/painted rotting wood posts/caps/trim on deck and front porch. Got rid of old stained and bubbled areas (no current water issues) in concrete block basement walls and grease stain on kitchen ceiling from exhaust.
