+ 2 moreHe was fine for the estimate. It has just taken a while for us to decide if we want to do the work or not. He was very professional. We had a lot of different things that we were asking him about. We wanted one contractor to do a bunch of work for us. He seemed a little hesitant to give us estimates. He said that the estimates take a long time for him to draw up and if we were not going to use him, he didn't know if he wanted to draw up all the estimates. We told him that was what we thought he was supposed to do and how would we know if we wanted to use him without the estimates. He ended up doing it and the estimates were good. His price wasn't awesome but it was fair enough. He was pretty responsive and got back to us pretty quickly. He didn't really want to give us a bunch of estimates. He is definitely in the running and we just sent him an email.
Description of Work: We got an estimate from Hughes Construction Company for a lot of stuff. It was for concrete removal, deck repair, window sealing and replacing a floor because we just bought a house that was a short sale and it needs a million things done to it.

+ 3 moreTyler Hughes, the owner, was great to work with. He and his work crew are very knowledgeable and extremely professional. Fixing this problem was a major undertaking and Tyler and his crew did a wonderful job. They took photos before beginning and throughout the project. Afterwards, Tyler presented me with a DVD of those photos to show to any potential buyer of my home. Tyler continues to call and make sure that no additional problems have occurred. In addition to this work, I hired Hughes Construction to replace several of my windows. They did it with the same knowledgeable and professional manner that I've come to expect from Tyler and his crew.
Description of Work: Hughes Construction fixed extensive problems that I had with my home's foundation. The wall of the foundation on the front of the house had moved inwards approximately 3 inches. This movement caused cracks in my foundation wall, which led to water leaking into my basement whenever it rained. An engineer drew up plans for a solution to the problem and I hired Hughes Construction to carry out those plans.

+ 4 moreIt went extremely well. This was a traumatic incident and once I finally got the plan and the work began, I felt like the whole job was in very capable hands. Tyler Hughes, the owner was on sight all but one day of the entire job. He and his crew are very professional and polite - which was great considering how long I had to live with them. Tyler is educated in his field, and his education and experience were apparent. The job took longer than originally anticipated because of a LOT of rainy weather, but they did everything they could to stay on my job until it was completed. They arrived promptly every day and worked hard while they were here. The job required a lot of coordination and was handled in a very orderly manner. This was an expensive job, but the price was fair for the work. The breakdown was $19,000 for the foundation/masonry/yard and $11,000 for the deck (because I selected expensive materials).
Description of Work: The job included extensive foundation repair, masonry repair, and deck replacement. I had previously hired a structural engineer to assess the problem and design the plan. The wall had move inward to over 4 inches from plumb, causing the brick and deck to fall. Hughes was hired to follow the engineer's plan. They first excavated the rear of the house to expose the entire foundation/basement wall. Next they pushed out the foundation wall using a series of devices which raised the rear of the house slightly and another series that used jacks to gradually push the wall. They installed braces on the inside and 5 large concrete counterforts on the outside. The counterforts are poured concrete built perpendicular to the wall and tied in with rebar to hold the wall upright and prevent any future movement. They waterproofed the wall and installed drainpipe by the footers and tied it into the sump pumps. They covered the pipe with gravel before backfilling and grading. After the ground settled around the excavated area, they re-graded and seeded the back yard, and built a beautiful deck. The service date above is when the deck was completed. The job started in July. 2010.
