The service person was punctual, checked A/C unit from the furnace to the outside unit. Showed me how the electronic battery was not firing. I gave permission for it to be replaced. Service was completed.

Made appointment with Geiler's office for the technician to arrive between 8 AM and 10 AM this morning. Tim was at my door at 8:15. Before working on the furnace he asked if we had any issues with its performance over the winter. I told him that for one 4 day period we would set the thermostat for 72 degrees, but the temperature would not go above 64. After that 4 day period, everything went well. At that point we had replaced a dirty filter, so that may have caused the problem; however, I did ask him to see if there was anything else going on. Tim inspected and cleaned the furnace and told me of two possible reasons, besides the filter, for the problem we had had. He gave me a price for replacing two parts, but said that there was no emergency and that the worst that would happened if one of those parts failed would be a lack of heat -- there was no danger in waiting to replace the parts. I appreciated that Tim was thorough in his inspection, cleaning, and evaluation and gave us no pressure to purchase an expensive replacement service. We will definitely use Geiler's services again.

That was fine and it is working fine. It did seem pricey and I was surprised. They were good, did the job, but I didn't like the price. I thought the $79 was towards the work. I could have gone to the phone book, found someone who wouldn't have charged to come out and look at it.
Description of Work: Geiler Home Services fixed my leaking toilet. $79 was a big deal purchase. He took the toilet off, resealed it, and put it back on.

The central air conditioning unit was leaking water. He found that the line was clogged. He unclogged the line and found that there was a pretty good amount of yucky debris there. He was patient, friendly, and efficient. He also showed me how to prevent the buildup in the future.

It was pretty good. They didn't complete it because they found high levels of carbon monoxide. We ended up having to get some work done. They were checking the levels of the oxygen and the carbon monoxide in the exhaust for our furnace. My husband wasn't impressed with the technician. He came out and he wasn't very polite. He wasn't quite as polite as what we would expect.

The deal included doing a flush but only after I provided a hose did we do the flush.
Description of Work: he didn't appear to do a complete and thorough checking of plumbing. He did do the flush. My overall satisfaction with Geiler has been very good when I use them.

Excellent service - called and they were able to provided service the same day. New sump pump was quickly installed with no issues. The back-up battery will be ordered, and the company will contact me next week to schedule installation (taking a few days due to the New Year holiday). Quick and professional. I will definitely use this company again. Bryan provided quick and professional service.
Description of Work: Bryan inspected the sump pump and back-up battery. Sump pump needed to be replaced, and the back-up battery was dead. Bryan replaced the sump pump and stated that a replacement back-up battery would need to be ordered. He tested the sump pump once installed.

I have never shared a negative review on Angie's List or anywhere else, but I was so troubled by how this company operates that I believe others should know. The short story is that they charged me a $69 service fee for showing up on the wrong date, and later refused to waive the fee and threatened to send my account to a collections agency if I did not pay. The details are as follows: I called Geiler on a Tuesday to ask for an estimate on replacement of my water heater. I did not have the model specifications on hand, so the man I spoke to said he would send someone out to take a look (note: he mentioned nothing about a $69 fee, though this was not shocking--yet it would have been better to mention this upfront.) He asked what date would be best and I told him Thursday of that week was best for me. (I am positive I said Thursday because I had already scheduled another company to come that same day for an estimate, and was planning to work from home that day for that reason--it was the only day that week that I could be home.) He confirmed Thursday would work. Fast forward to Thursday. The first company I had called showed up to my house as-scheduled and gave what I felt was a fair estimate. Geiler never showed up. I did not call them that day asking because (i) I already had a fair estimate that I would accept, so didn't care if they came or not; and (ii) I was not interested in working with them if they missed their scheduled time. The next day (Friday), I was at work when my nanny called to tell me that someone from Geiler was at the house. I told her I did not have an appointment with them that day, and she told the man he was not needed. He left. A few weeks later, I received a bill for $69 from Geiler for a broken appointment. For obvious reasons, I did not pay. A couple weeks later, someone from Geiler called asking for payment. I explained the situation, truly believing they would apologize for the misunderstanding. But they persisted, saying it was "policy" that they charge $69 for a broken appointment. I told them I understand the policy, but that its application in this situation was inappropriate considering they showed up on the wrong day. The woman said she did not have the authority to waive the fee, but would have a manager call me back. Someone (not the manager) called me back and reiterated the same message. I explained many times that I HAD been available on the scheduled date, but no one from Geiler showed up. They persisted that (i) they were not waiving this fee; and (ii) if I did not pay they would send my account to a collections agency for action that was likely to impact my credit rating. Since I had not been able to speak to a manager, I followed up these calls with an email to the company asking for confirmation that their position was that they would not waive the fee, and that my account would be sent to Collections if I did not pay. They confirmed via email that they would not waive the fee, noting that, if I had actually made the appointment on Thursday, I would have called their office when no one showed up. This despite the fact I had already explained several times that I did not call them that day because another company had given me a fair estimate, and I was no longer interested in working with Geiler. I am sharing with Angie's List because I know from experience that the great majority of service providers would never have taken this approach. First, they would have been upfront about a $69 fee when I made the appointment. Second, they would not have billed me for a mistake that THEY made. And third, when I called to explain the situation, they would have waived the fee. Especially given the alternatives available, I do not recommend working with this company. At the end of the day, it is not about $69 (which ultimately I paid, 100% to avoid the headache of the threatened collection agency action). It is about customer service, which is obviously key in this industry.

Plumber did work contracted for, plus made helpful suggested and provided valuable information about the house's plumbing. There were two faucets with leaks, which he said that they could fix - but at a cost that exceeded what I would be willing to pay to correct said leaks.
Description of Work: He provided a comprehensive plumbing inspection and leak test. He also suggested a few things I could do to ensure the house's overall plumbing hygiene / operation.

I do take my share of responsibility. I have been basically bedridden since April and have been unable to keep up with the housework, especially since I don't have access to hot water. I have a 20 year old cat who refuses to use the litter box. Before I became bedridden, I was able to keep up, but not since then. When Paul, the plumber, and his assistant arrived, there was no smile included in the greeting and no introduction. I only know his name from the woman who answers the phone, Ann. My plumbing issue is the tub in my only full bath. Paul was saying he was going to check the faucet and I had to explain to him that it was the tub, not the vanity. He said he was told it was the vanity faucet. and even stated that is not what he was told. Believe me, I know where the problems are and they aren't the vanity. I didn't appreciate the argumentative tone he took. Before he went to bath, I showed him where the tub had been leaking in to the kitchen. When he saw the cat feces (which is everywhere), Paul was very short and said it would have to be cleaned before he could do the work. I have been in contact with a cleaning company to come in to clean and decontaminate, but the company stated I would need to have the plumbing fixed before they could do the work. I explained that to Paul. He went out to call his supervisor. I didn't time the call, but it was at least 15 minutes or longer. When Paul returned, he still said they could not do the work. There was no compassion or understanding in his demeanor and no suggestion of a company that could possibly help. I have since found a cleaning company that returned my call immediately and came out to scope the house within 2 hours of my call. I anticipate getting the estimate by this afternoon. This company does not require that the plumbing be fixed. Meanwhile, I am still unable to use my hot water and will be looking for a different plumbing company. The lack of hot water means I cannot take showers, do my dishes and can only do laundry in cold water.
Description of Work: On first contact, I had to wait for a week for someone to come to give an estimate. I had to cancel that appointment for personal reasons. At that point I had to wait another 2 days for the appointment with Hank, the worker who came to give the estimate. He was very kind and understanding. I had to wait another week for an appointment for a plumber.

Scheduled an annual checkup for three furnaces. I emailed with all the information regarding furnace, humidifier, filter and thermostat types. One thermostat isn't working so I asked them to call and reschedule if that's a problem. Two days notice they don't call. Tech to arrive between 10:00 - 12:00. At 11:00 someone calls to inform me the tech's child is sick and they'll have to reschedule. Okay. They don't have time until after thanksgiving. Not okay. I have family coming in and need the upstairs heated. I asked if they received my email. She replies "no." I don't believe her but what can I do? I tell them I'll get someone else. I joined Angie's list to avoid this type of issue.
Description of Work: Nothing.They cancelled during the two hour window.

Not very friendly during contact call....to the point I was reluctant to even let come to my house. So after waiting for the technician roughly an hour, he decided he could not do the job because it was too dark outside.
Description of Work: I am not sure what has happened to this company but its service is in decline. I have had them do preventive check for the last several seasons. This year after waiting for 2 weeks for an appointment to come up, they call me the day of 4-6 hours prior to the appointment wanting me to reschedule so they can me another customers needs. Now I have already paid for the inspection. Later the same day they called me and say well we can't get to your appointment until 5:00-6:00 pm. The technician called at 5:54 to say I'm 45 minutes or more from your home and asked do you still want me to come out? The conversation took a negative tone when I answered yes. I was reluctant to even let the guy in my house after that call. Needless to say I'm not happy with being moved around to meet Geiler's financial gain for a more expensive job!

[member name removed] thanks for the review, first I wanted to check and make sure that the service that you did recieve was to your satisfaction and as for what happenefd with the service call was that the Technician scheduled became ill and had to go to the doctor which threw the whole day of service calls out of order. we spent some time trying to accommodate the allready scheduled customers as best as possible and then we had an emergency Propane Gas leak on a Geiler Maintenance Service Contract customer which takes priority emergency service. I am sorry for any inconvenience and felt you needed to know why your scheduled call was changed. We try our best to make people happy however sometimes changes in schedules cannot be avoided. It worked out fine. There were no additional fees. Actually, there were some other plumbing services that I asked them to do and they didn't have the parts. I had a leak or a drip in my tub in my master bathroom and I asked him to repair it. The guy looked at it and said that he didn't have the parts. The second thing was, I had a faucet in the kitchen sink that was running slow. He looked at it and said that he didn't have the parts. Those were two extra things that I asked him to do but he didn't. I would have thought, the part that he needed for the kitchen was just a little braided hose. But anyway, those were the other two things that I asked him to do and he wasn't able to do it because he said he didn't have the parts. They were knowledgeable. They were nice and professional and were here on time.

They came in on time. Respected the cleanliness of my house. They inspected and found a leak in my AC unit as it was running hot and unable to cool. They filled up the gas, and recommended that we replace the unit. I was shocked to see the bill. The refrigerant is not very expensive when I looked up online. They charged me a ridiculous price of $100/pound!!! My refrigerant is the current/modern refrigerant and I feel like I was taken advantage of.

I liked the fact that they would talk to you over the phone and give a verbal estimate. They came out the next day to do the job. It took about 2 hours besides travel time. The actual bill was higher than the estimate. When I called to question it Terry explained the difference to my satisfaction. I have a 1 inch water meter which is very rare. They had to go out and buy supplies and do extra work to accommodate it. This was all true, so I was okay with the price change

The guy was really good and professional. He found the issue fairly quickly and told us what to do to take care of the problem. He offered to take care of it for us, but my husband was able to do it. He didn't harass me to do things I didn't want to do, he just gave me some options and told me the cost of those. If I chose to do any of those things he mentioned I would ask for the same guy to come back.
