Floor Coverings International, Cincinnati East, Inc., is owned by Madeira resident Katie Fitzgerald. After a 22-year career as an executive with Procter & Gamble, Katie decided to start her own business, to create her own legacy. Her goal is to make the floor-buying process easier and more effective for her clients through her shop-at-home approach. Katie quickly established her business as one of the best in the city, earning the Angie's List Super Service award every year since opening as well as achieving an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Our approach is unique - a design associate visits your home (or business) and works with you one-on-one to help you choose your ideal flooring. Our mobile collection boasts more than 3,000 flooring selections. Because we have expertise in virtually all types of interior flooring and because we order by the job and carry no inventory, we are able to provide unbiased expert advice across a wide range of flooring choices. A highly trained Design Associate consults with you as you select the perfect flooring solution for your needs, desires, and budget. flooring needs from start to finish. I did not really know what I wanted; wood
floors, tile carpet etc. They came in to my home took measurements and then
showed me on the computer how each option would look in my home. After lots of
back and forth I decided on carpet.
I went to her show room to look at the samples, and touch and feel
them. With so many to choose from it was hard to narrow it down. Again she
helped by inputting each carpet type I
liked into my measurements on her
computer, allowing her to tell me instantly the price and availability of each
selection, also ensuring I would stay within my budget. After more deliberation
I decided.
We set a date for installation, her crew was on time, finished in
one day and cleaned up after themselves.
The carpet looks great!

We did have a blip when the installer informed me that things would not be able to installed as Katie had written up, but she quickly remedied this on her dollar after I contacted her.
We plan to use finish the rest of the basement in the future with new linoleum flooring and we plan to use Katie again.

"Not every job goes as smoothly as we would like. In this case, the original Design Associate went out of town for a week of training, which is a great advantage of being part of a franchise because it keeps us on the leading edge of product knowledge. But we did have to hand the job off to another person. Not always, but sometimes, there are glitches when we have to do that. We of course regret any inconvenience. However, we have a commitment to customer service, and we work hard to make things right with our clients. In this case, all's well that ends well! Tile Installation:
Russ, who installed the tile spent the better part of 12 hours getting the old flooring removed, removing the toilets and then installing the tile (non-ceramic) in the upstairs bathroom and the water closet in the master bathroom and reinstalled the toilets. He likely would have made it a two day project, but we had the carpet installation scheduled for the next morning, and he shared with us he did not want to be in their way the next day. He was professional and we felt comfortable with him from start to finish. His work was obviously important to him, as it can be seen in the quality of the installation. We were completely satisfied with his quality. We believe you could say that he installed the tile as though he was doing it for family or friends. We feel comfortable in suggesting to you that you ask for Russ, if you select this company.
Carpet Installation:
Ed installed the carpet. He had great ratings on Angie's List, which I had researched previously. There was a 'gap in communication' from FCI - Cincinnati to us about the actual start time. I thought they were scheduled to be here at 9:00, but they start at that time and have to go by and pick up the carpet, etc. They arrived around 11:00 as it turned out. I provided feedback to Katie, (President) so this would hopefully prevent this communication misunderstanding in the future. It really wasn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, yet when you are providing a review, you should feel obligated to share the good and where bumps in the road occurred, if they actually occurred. Again, in the grand scheme of things, it was minor.
The instalation took two days, which we knew right from the start. They worked hard and efficiently. Ed asked questions to make sure we were happy with the installation process as it proceeded. To make a two day story short, we were very happy with the work that Ed and his team did for us in the installation of the carpet. He told us what time they would be back on the second day before they left. No messes were left, carpet looks good and seems almost impossible to detect, which was very important for us. We would recommend Ed and his team to you for installation of carpet as well.

The bottom step was broken, which I did not know until they started work. My house is from 1928, so I wanted something that would match the existing oak downstairs, while still matching the pine stairs. They choose an oak thread, and sanded/cut a custom round in it to give it a seamless look. They didn't overcharge me for the step, even though I had no choice at that point. The stairs look amazing now!

There was a misfiguring in the amount of tile needed however Katie did scrabble to get this resolved during the day of installation to avoid not being able to complete it but there was also an issue with the wrong tile being brought over as they didn't check it when it arrived in the warehouse this to was resolved but pushed our install by a day.
Also, the installer did not use the proper floor separator between the tile and the wood causing an issue with my wood floor installation because they didn't want to leave and go get the right piece and a different wood piece was needed and it a little off I have to work with the hardwood floor people to resolve this now.
Lastly, the floor looks great to everyone who walks by but the mosaic inlay should have been raised to be flush with the ceramic tile that was laid around it and this is something I noticed after I was able to walk on it.
I would just try to ask a lot of questions and make sure the quote includes everything like grout and appropriate sq ft as had I used them for the basement carpet I would have been about 50 sq ft short don't know how they would have handled this but the quotes were VERY HIGH too.
"We really appreciate this client's feedback. We did take the wrong size tile to the house in the morning. We ordered correctly; the tile supplier gave us the wrong size, and we didn't catch it. The customer is absolutely correct: we should have checked the size. We discovered the error at the customer's house, much to our dismay. We called the supplier immediately. The supplier’s sales rep actually drove from Cincinnati to their distribution center in Columbus, picked up the tile, and brought it to the customer's house (this tile supplier has wonderful customer service, by the way). Meanwhile, the original install crew had to leave because their schedule was full that day and they had other jobs to get to so they couldn’t wait for the tile to be delivered. The customer had organized all of the flooring work so it would be installed just-in-time for them to move into their new home, so it was imperative we finish that day. We called an installer down from Dayton. The client, unknown to us, asked the installer to change the design of the mosaic inlay slightly, widening the mosaic inlay a bit. He did, but this unfortunately required more of the mosaic, and we ran one sheet short. He called us about that and, while he worked, we scrambled to find another mosaic sheet. We did finish the job that day, but it was later than we had expected. The installer worked until 9 p.m. to finish the job. We didn't charge any extra for the mosaic, as we felt pretty bad about not checking the tile size and having the installation completed about 5 hours later than planned. This was a stressful project for us, but it must have been worse for our client, with the threat of a van full of furniture descending on the house before the floors were finished. Despite this stressful situation, the client remained calm and understanding, showing a lot of class, which we very much appreciate. We of course profusely and repeatedly apologized for our error. Mistakes sometimes happen, but we are absolutely committed to providing excellent customer service."

The entire flooring and shoe molding is complete and it is beautiful. Our stairs are not completed yet because Katie and another rep Megan are personally going to stain the stair wraps themselves. Katie stained our heat vents personally to match our hickory floors.We are thrilled with the custom rugs that FCI has designed and made for us. Again, Katie and Megan came to our home on more than one occasion to design our custom rugs with us. The kitchen rugs are completed and are perfect. We will be purchasing the remaining rugs from them. We highly recommend Katie, Megan and all the installation crew. Floor Coverings International did an awesome job from start to finish. The contractor they used on the project did a very good job on the installation. FCI came on-site during the installation to make sure everything was going well and that we were happy with the results.
We are very happy with our new kitchen floor and highly recommend Floor Coverings International.

Megan came out to our home at a convenient time for both of us. She brought numerous samples and explained the differences of each grade of carpet. She spent a long time with us and was very knowledgable about the products. Although we had already secured services for installation with a carpet installer (which was found on Angie's list and was also one Floor Coverings Int. recommended), Megan used a laser to measure the basement in order to ensure accuracy of the footage. Megan was then able to enter the measurements into her laptop and provide a very accurate estimate of what our cost would be with the different carpets in which we were interested. The program she used was amazing. We were able to pick where the seams would be and were able to avoid unnecessary waste. She then printed an estimate for all the carpets we were considering. We were also able to keep several of the samples and Megan picked them up from our home when we were finished
After we ordered the carpet, the project took longer to get to the point where we could install the carpet but Floor Coverings stored the carpet in their warehouse until we were ready. They were very accommodating throughout the whole process.
Overall, we had a great experience with this company and highly recommend them. They really made this carpet installation a positive experience.
"We can step in on any stage of a flooring job. In this case, the client found an installer - and a good one at that - and we helped choose the material and develop a design. We also sell materials to do-it-yourselfers, and we of course can do the whole project. The client mentions our laser measurement instrument and our "amazing" proposal software. We also have a visualization computer program that uses a digital picture of a client's room to virtually lay flooring down. Our cutting-edge technology works to take the guesswork out of your flooring decision. Doing so takes much of the fear out of the decision and makes the process interesting and fun. (And isn't that the way it should be?)"
On a side note, before I decided to go with Floor Coverings International, I did get quotes from several other flooring companies and Floor Coverings Int was extremely competitive in their pricing. Amazing service and great prices.
