I never received a response and after several attempts to contact them using phone and Angie’s List requests I gave up and found another contractor. I am happy with the companies that responded and provided estimates. I now have a contract I am happy with, but not with Distinct Decks.

Excellent design work. Tim made some suggestions that made the pergola fit in with the house and patio. The work was professional and turned out well. We are happy with the result

It went great! They had great ideas to make the deck look like part of the house. They told us about how long it would take and they worked to finish within that time frame. They worked in some very hot weather, but that didn't slow them up. They arrived early and worked the whole day through. The finished deck looks amazing and we couldn't be happier. I would recommend Distinct Decks to anyone considering a new or replacement deck.

My husband and I recently bought a house with a deck and gazebo in need of some repair and restaining. When we first met with Tim, he verbally discussed ideas and estimates with us. We liked him and his suggestions; when his estimates came in writing for our deck his verbal estimate was under by a factor of 10, but the gazebo estimate was spot on. The estimates did seem reasonable according to other estimates we had received and we thought it was just a small error and it did not really phase our decision to go with Tim's company. While we were discussing what option we wanted to take with our deck, we contracted Tim to power wash and restain our gazebo, as it was in much better condition than the deck. Tim and his crew were actually able to fit it in almost 30 days earlier than first scheduled, so we were pleased to hear that news and I emailed him and asked if I needed to select a color of stain. He responded with and quot;no thanksand quot;, which seemed a bit strange. He later wrote that he would just match the original color, which was acceptable with us. Tim advised it would take two days to complete. They arrived when they said they would and were done in two days. After the second day, we were appalled when we looked at the gazebo. Its condition was worse than before they had power washed it. The color was originally a reddish hue and they had simply put a clear coat over everything. Not all of the original color had been removed with the power washing, so everything was ragged and splotchy, not to mention they had entirely missed applying the clear stain to large sections of the main structure. Our neighbors said the workers were not there for very long and were surprised they could have even stained the whole structure....probably because they didn't. I wrote Tim an email expressing our dissatisfaction and requesting that he contact my husband after the upcoming holiday weekend to try to resolve the situation. He wrote me back that he would send a team over to fix whatever concerns we had after the weekend. We were content with this response. Meanwhile, we had guests in for the weekend and they noted someone on our gazebo during that time- it was Tim. He was applying more stain to part of the gazebo; my husband went out to speak with him since he had not even let us know he was on our property and we were quite occupied with our guests. They discussed the parts we had issues with and he said he wanted to try to fix some of the problems right then. Despite it being extremely inconvenient, we thought at least he was trying to amend the situation. After some time, our doorbell rang and I answered it- it was Tim and he started out rather assertively stating that he was retracting his offer to repair our deck; he added he would build us a new one but he wasn't going to deal with the existing one. I said and quot;okand quot;. He then went on to try to explain what he thought went wrong and that perhaps I had not fully understood the work detail initially. His whole demeanor to me was slightly aggressive and condescending; not at all how he had acted around my husband. He was somewhat gruff about my email to him which related the issues and I stated that we were very upset and disappointed with the work. Tim then said he wanted me to come out to the gazebo and show him what I was upset about; I said it was not a convenient time, as I had guests, but he had already started walking toward the backyard again. I was so upset with the way he had just interacted with me, I asked my husband to go speak with him and wrote a check (for his fully billed amount, despite the work still not being finished) to give him and tell him to leave our property. My husband said that he pointed out the still unfinished sections to Tim and that Tim admitted that maybe they weren't completely done. Tim spent another twenty minutes quickly brushing some more stain on sections of the gazebo and then left with the check. Sadly, I am the one who chose Tim and had gotten very high recommendations from others about him. This was a very bad experience and we are just resigned to the fact that our gazebo will have to be redone again and will try to embrace the foot and fingerprints the workers left in the sections of the gazebo they did stain.
Description of Work: We requested an estimate to repair and restain our deck and gazebo and an estimate for a new deck. While deciding on which option to go with for the deck we contracted to have the gazebo done first.

Response from DISTINCT DECKS
Wow, I guess its true that you cant make everyone happy. This is the most unhappy client weve had in 20 years. We worked on an older 3 story gazebo detached in rear corner of yard. It had pretty good color, so we agreed not to strip entire structure, but simply powerwash with cleaner & apply CWF over all. I think our biggest problem was that there were a couple areas where the existing stained failed, flaked. When applying a transparent stain, the flaked areas will always appear blotchy because they dont have multiple coats like all the rest. Client asked to include doing all ceilings. We use several people, sprayer, we have to be effient to be affordable. All agreed work was completed. Clients expectations were unrealistic.

Tim put the deck in two years ago and did a great job. It is under a big tree and it got mold and dirt on it which we just could not get off. Tim came and cleaned it and it looks brand new. Another company wanted 3X what Tim charged. We will use him each time the deck needs cleaned.

Tim Cook comes across as a skilled carpenter, is very professional and super responsive. After our initial call, he came out to our house to see our backyard and what we were thinking. At the time, our plans were uncertain but he offered several ideas and presented us with a plan and several options, all very quickly and via email. We eventually hired Gayle Frazer (landscape architect) to help us design the entire backyard. Once we had a sketch, I forwarded it to Tim as he quickly requoted the job, again by email. We had 2 other quotes and Tim was the best. We didn't go with him in the end, only because we hired one person who could do our deck, landscaping and concrete removal all at the same time.

Excellent job! Tim took my iniitial design, prepared a proposal, scheduled the work (took about 2 weeks) and constructed both the deck and shed platform (post and beam). Both turned out fantastic. Quality of the materials and workmanship was absolutely top-notch. The wood flooring is absolutly beautiful... some of the clearest lumber I've ever seen. And the structures are strong enough to park a car on. If a storm blew through, I'm sure both would be standing long after the house. Tim and crew do extraordinarly professional work. It's amazing what these craftsmen can put together. Would highly recommend their work to anyone.

Tim Cook was very professional and his team was as efficient as possible. When something needed attention, they handled it quickly. I couldn't be more happy with the workmanship and quality of their work. They took the time to verify the base structures were robust, level and square. This kind of attention is required for a superb job and satisfied customers. Tim Cook and his team at Distinct Decks understand this and are masters at what they do. They came to work when scheduled and cleaned up the work area when finished. Like anything today, you get what you pay for. Distinct Decks was not the low bidder on my project, but I know I got the highest quality deck redo possible. I was pleasantly impressed with everything they did on my project. I wouldn't hesitate a minute to recommend them.
Description of Work: Replace approximately 1100 sq. ft. of decking boards on existing deck. Replace and reinforce support structures for the new deck boards as required. Remove existing hot tub built into old deck and rebuild the support framing required for the new decking in that area. Remove all of the old railings around the deck and steps. Replace all roof support beams for elevated walkway and add new joist and larger support beam for base section. Install new aluminum hand rails for the walkway and rear portion of the lower deck. Replace the steps with all new lumber and the decking on landings diagonally to the step treads. Install new handrail for the steps.

Completely satisfied. Very detailed work. Never left a mess at the end of the day. Everyone is experienced, professional, friendly. Tim Cook (owner) was more than willing to work with me regarding build and cost estimates. Hard workers - in less than favorable weather conditions. No problem recommending Distinct Decks to any of my friends and neighbors.

The multi-level deck is GORGEOUS and Tim's craftsmanship shines through. We've gotten compliments from our neighbors, family and friends. Quality work, through and through!
Description of Work: We finally decided to build a deck and searched high and low for a skilled carpenter. Tim came out and worked with my husband on an estimate, which was right on target for what we were expecting/willing to pay. My husband designed the deck (he's a mechanical engineer) and Tim brought it to life. We're hiring him again to build gates on the deck to keep the dogs off and the kids on ;)

Overall very well. We wanted to use resin instead of wood, but the distance between our columns would not allow us to use it because resin cannot be cut to fit. We went with a hard-wood pine that is stained with a Porter Wood Guardian Acrylic White Stain. Tim came out to measure and take pictures. He built the railings at his shop and installation on-site took 2.5 hours. Looks FABULOUS!!!!!! Definitely having added the hand rails makes the cement porch look finished. Tim is very professional and takes the time to offer advice and explain the good and bad of the woods and finishes. He recommends what he thinks will work best and explains why. We absolutely love it and will most likely be calling him when we are ready to re-do out back deck.
Description of Work: Adding white hand railing to our cement front porch-that already had columns.
