I hired Deer Park Roofing based on the reviews in Angie's list. Unfortunately my experience was not as pleasant as others who have used this company for roofing replacement. During the installation process, rain soaked through the open roof and stained my ceiling. The crew was helpful and painted the affected area and I thought nothing of it. Once the job was finished, I noticed my gutters were full of debris and the break metal they replaced was flapping in the wind. I called them and they came out to repair and clean my gutters. Finally this spring I noticed a leak in my roof which put another spot on my ceiling. Once again I called and they came out to fix a bathroom vent they indicated was improperly installed. They fixed the vent and promised to return to paint the affected ceiling on the next rainy day. It has been the wettest month in Cincinnati and they are still not out to paint the ceiling.
Description of Work: I hired the company to remove my old roof, repair damaged decking due to a fallen tree limb, replace break metal flashing and replace the roof of my home.

I need to prefice my vinyl siding experience with Deer Park Roofing by explaining this Company had just completed a total roof replacement on the same house prior to my signing a contract for the siding job. I was very impressed with the roofing foreman's knowledge and skill in determining and communicating to me the integrity of the ventilation, roofing & flashing needs and products, as well as, in directing the roofing crew to produce a quality job. There were several specialty items, one of which Deer Park Roofing custom made a copper roof to wall vent to allow for extra ventelation of a lower pitch, southern exposure roof area. I was very pleased with the knowledge, quality and service of the roofing job and it went off without a hitch. Subsequently, I hired Deer Park Roofing put vinyl siding on "This Old House" that I own. Once the job got started, it didn't take long to realize this roofing company did not have the caliber of knowledge, experience, and competancy in siding as they did in roofing. I suppose that is why the Company is called "Deer Park Roofing". The salesman/foreman told me they were expanding the business into siding, and I was given assurance of the same quality if I chose them for the siding job. I was told, "We really want this job." So I signed the siding contract and was asked by the roofing & siding sales man/foreman to get my siding bid faxed in by June 30th so he would get credit for the sale in June. I did, but the work did not commence until 4 months later in October. I waited all summer for a start date and finally had to call to get one. Overall, my experience was extremely frustrating. It was one in which I had to spend excessive time (taking time off work) convincing (almost argueing with) the foreman to pay attention to the details of a quality look, which I assumed would be standard operating practice for laying siding. I was often told a sloppy application "was fine". Only when I did not accept it as "fine", and after much debate, would corrections be made. I found I had to check the quality and perspective of the work and phone the foreman in order to have the workers make corrections (e.g, crooked lines in trimming around the dryer vent, hot-tub circuit box, and along the ceiling of the porch). The workers sped through the project at lightning speed, and I questioned the experience of the young workers. After wall lantern lights on the porch were detached to lay the siding behind them and then re-attached, I was without lighting to the inside stairway going to the 2nd floor of my home for 2 nights because wires were crossed when the porch lantern lights were re-attached. A sensor flood light at the front porch, and a dryer vent were broken while laying the siding and had to be replaced. An unsightly gap in one roof pitch line where the wall met the slanting pitch of the roof, had to be pointed out, debated with the foreman who said "it was fine", and finally corrected so that it was consistent with other pitch lines (that had no gap). A particularly long debate occurred over wrapping or "picture framing" 5 windows at the front of the house with siding rather than with aluminum coil stock. Deer Park Roofing foreman and "lead worker" said, "It looks fine", when a horizontal strip of aluminum coil stock was layed above the windows and extended along the entire length of wall space just under the frieze board in lieu of laying siding material. If siding had been layed above those windows, it would have looked "picture framed" and consistent with the rest of the windows that had been framed with siding above them. For some reason, however, smooth aluminum coil stock was layed above these 5 windows. The look was an eyesore and inconsistent with the rest of the house. Not only was I told "It looks fine.", but I was also told they've done this application in many houses. So I began to do drive-bys in many neighborhoods to check this out and could not find a single house that did not have siding above a window. Ultimately, in order to convince the lead crewman & foreman to understand what I wanted, I had to climb up on the front porch roof with the crewman while the foreman stood below, and give a presentation pointing to where I wanted the aluminum coil stock replaced with siding above the windows. An exhausting 30 minutes later they said "Oh! you want the windows wrapped!" By the end of the day, the windows were completely wrapped with siding. Because my house is a circa 1860 farm house, there are important architural designs that needed to be considered & preserved. For example gable vents and "bird boxes" near the eaves. I was persuaded to cover up the existing gable vents b/c they weren't needed in the presence of adequate ventilation through the the soffit vents (a carryover of the roofing job). I understood the rationale, but still wanted to maintain the vintage look of gable vents. This was discouraged as unnecessary so the gable vents were covered with siding. Later, after encouragement from neighbors and friends, the foreman was contacted by me and facade gable vents were installed at a significant additional cost to me. I experienced from this contractor a lack of perspective of preserving the historical look of the house. A similar lack of perspective occurred when the vintage "bird boxes" attached near the eaves were covered in smooth aluminum coil stock, which looked great, except for some reason the bottom plane of each box was covered with soffit material. Again, "It looks fine." Eventually, the soffit material was removed and the box was encased in the smooth aluminum material on all sides and has the look of an original vintage bird box. I chose a 4.5 inch Dutch Lap siding pattern. Each piece of siding is 18 inches high and contains 4 stacked levels of the 4.5 inch Dutch Lap pattern. I have a 6-sided floor to ceiling bay window. Because of the angles created by each window of the hexagon, 6 pannels of siding (8 inches high x 33 inches long) needed to be cut and framed with J-channel under the spaces below each window. All of the initial panels cut and layed for this application were not identical (i.e., some had the Dutch Lap groove 3" from the top and others 2" or 4" from the top, etc.), which looked conspicuously haphazard. When this was pointed out I was told "It looks fine." Once the foreman was convinced it did not, I picked the cut I liked best and asked for all the panels to look the same as the one I liked. The foreman then attempted to talk me into the one he thought should be there. Ultimately, the panels layed were of the pattern I liked. A buckled strip of siding ran above the front entry door between the porch ceiling and the door. Several friends commented on this. It took much convincing and 3 re-do's to achieve a non-buckled application. A ding in one piece of siding that was replaced was the only correction that did not require debate. "We just want to make you happy!" was also a phrase I heard through out the job. Yet my experience was that in order to be happy I needed to check over every inch of the project and point out, debate, and convince that a correction needed to occur. On the roofing job I automatically received a 5 year Workmanship Warranty. On the siding job I was told this wasn't given. After many requests and finally contacting upper management, I received a 5 year Workmanship Warranty for the siding. The experience of siding my house with Deer Park Roofing was one of the most time consuming, frustrating, contentious contractor experiences I have had, and I have been engaged in 3 total house rehabs as a landlord and 1 new house build. In my opinion, Deer Park Roofing should stay with what they know which is the roofing business.
Description of Work: Whole house roofing of a 2 story circa 1800 farm house. Whole house vinyl siding of the same house.

Estimate was slightly higher than other contractors, but based on the recommendation of a neighbor and my own experience while discussing my project, I was impressed with their professionalism and chose them over other contractors. They explained to me some construction methods that other contractors use to lower their price, and stressed that they would not take those same shortcuts even if I asked them to do so! That impressed me. During the tear off of my old roof they only took off in any one day what they could cover with new shingles the same day. That avoided the potential of rain damage overnight. Since my work was done during the hottest time of the year (August) they actually split up their day to avoid walking on the shingles and possibly damaging them during the hottest part of the day. They worked a few hours in the morning, took off the afternoon, and then returned late in the day to finish. Impressive! The work was completed quickly and professionally and the area around my house cleaned up quite well. But I was even more impressed with Deer Park Roofing 9 months later. After going through the first Winter I noticed some odd buckling of the shingles in one area of the roof. Someone came out and got up into my attic to try to determine what was going on. While that inspection was indeterminate, they promised to return in the Spring and make whatever repairs were necessary to correct the buckling shingles. A couple of weeks later I came home and found that they had replaced the buckling shingles and my roof in that area still looked brand new. It has now been 2 years since I had my work done and the roof still looks great with no sings of buckling where I first saw the problem.
Description of Work: Existing shingle tear off and replacement.

They came out and got up on the roof to give us an estimate. It was amazing how many people do not do that. How can you tell exactly what you are going to be doing if you don't get up on the roof? They gave us their opinion on the types of shingles we should use along with the vents. We took all of their suggestions. They also informed us how the gutters were looking. We did end up getting new gutter gueards through them. They were very clean and respectful. When you get a new roof, there are nails and all sorts of debris. They cleaned up everyday that they were here and even took a metal detector around to make sure they got as many nails as they could (which is nice when you have kids and dogs). They were wonderful!!
Description of Work: Wonderful experience! They did the removal of the old roof and the installation of the new, new vents, and gutter guards.

The team was very professional, they did all the work they promised, missed a popped nail and came back to repair it as promised. The installer even fixed some damaged siding where I had a doorbell replaced by another contractor, and a loose piece of siding, (not part of the estimate). I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Installed new vinyl beadboard soffits, covered trim with aluminum siding material, installed new gutters and downspouts, replaced flashing at the chimney and sloped roof at dormer window, replaced a gable vent and repaired the surrounding siding, installed four box fans, installed gutter drip edge and repaired nail pops on the roof and a few damaged shingles.

Their price was pretty similar to the one I got from the contractor I used. There was a third estimate that was considerably higher. I had a good feeling about their professionalism. They made a good impression. They were actually the only company that emailed me all of the copies of their license and certification. They were probably the most organized of the three companies I talked to. There seemed to be a little bit of trouble connecting with the people on the phone, but it wasn't a major problem. They were very businesslike and professional. I wouldn't have had a problem choosing them.

They were quick to respond for estimate and were very thorough with inspection and recommendations. Decided to go with them based on very good price and feedback from Angie's List and BBB. Installers were very professional. They were careful not to get anything dirty and to clean up when finished. I had some specific concerns about one area in the attic and they were good about checking on it and telling me how they filled in it. I would recommend them to anyone and would consider the company for other types of work.
Description of Work: Called for estimate to add insulation in attic space. Needed to go from about R19 to R49 in an attic approx 1200 sq ft. I wanted blown in fiberglass insulation based on the amount and information gathered about other possible materials.

They came out and quoted prior to my closing on the house and showed up when they said (weather did slow them down, but they called each day to update). Took time to correctly install all flashing and valleys. Only minor concern was a flat area that has a rubber roof. I thought it would be replaced. After discussion, they added treating it to the quote. I expected this was included in teh original quote. Overall, they did a great job, cleaned up each day, kept me informed of progress. I would recommend them highly.

I called this company on Wednesday to schedule an appointment. He let us know that nobody is available and that they'd be able to come out/schedule an appointment for Friday. We called them on Friday, but he told us that nobody was working and that they wouldn't be able to take a look at our roof until Monday. We called them today, Monday morning, and he told us that there were about 20 people ahead of us and someone would call us to schedule an appointment for either this week or next, even though we called last week. We understand that it was the holiday weekend, but our roof has a leak in it and it's supposed to rain today, so it an emergency to have our roof looked at/fixed. We'll go with another company.

An inspection by Durable Slate rated my roof in average to good condition and I have an estimate to replace missing and broken slate. Their rep got up on my roof - by ladder -they always use ladders. Deer Park insisted they can only repair with the expensive addition of a motorized lift. I will use Durable Slate.
Description of Work: Deer Park used a lift to inspect my slate roof on my 3 story Victorian. They took pictures etc. and I was pleased. However, a followup letter said I need a new roof! When I called them to get a estimate this last month, they have not responded - 2 different calls.

The workers were punctual, did a great job, and cleaned up the work site.
Description of Work: We called Deer Park to basically re-do shoddy work done by another company a couple of years ago. (Lesson - don't hire a company you can't find on Angie's List.) Deer Park removed the old gutter hangers and reinstalled the appropriate number and quality of hangers. Corrected the pitch on some gutters; sealed the leaky corner miters, endcaps and outlet tubes; installed 2 downspouts; repaired existing downspouts so they would actually drain into the existing crocks.

Deer Park provided a clear detailed quote for the job that showed a thorough understanding of the work to be performed. At my request, options for gutter replacement, gutter guards and gutter aprons were proposed and priced. Deer Park's quote was near the middle of 5 bidders on the job and lower than but very close to the quotes of 2 other well-qualified companies. I selected Deer Park based on the longevity of the company, their reputation for quality and their reasonable price. Deer Park was very responsive in delivering shingle samples for review and helping select the final color of the shingles. The crew showed up exactly when Deer Park said they would, got right to work tearing off the old roof and putting down new felt and shingles. The company uses its dump truck for debris rather than a dumpster. They moved the truck out of our way each evening when they quit, allowing access to both sides of our garage, full width of our driveway, etc. The crew was highly professional in performance of the work and very personable. They worked very efficiently and performed the entire job in 3 days. At the end of each day there was no evidence work was being performed in the yard or anywhere else except on the roof. They left the yard and driveway cleaner than when they started and no shrubbery or plantings were damaged in the least. The roof looks great. I have not ever had a better experience with a contractor; I highly recommend Deer Park Roofing.
