Deck & Fence Renewal Systems

The initial call went well. The person who took down my information was very professional. Explained I would get my estimate within a week. I might have got the estimate within a week, however I can't be sure since it was put in the mailbox at the rental property where the work was to be performed. No call to let me know they were coming out or to let me know they had been there. Once I got the estimate from the tenant who was moving out I feel the job was quoted intentionally high so they wouldn't have to do such a small job. $80 to replace 8 wooden balusters and another $100 to replace 2-3 boards seems high. I went to Menard's and bought the materials for $40 and will be doing the work myself.

These folks are tremendous to work with. They are very efficient, prompt, courteous, meticulous and thourough. Greg and his team did exactly as promised. Even after the manufacturer's product failed the first time, Greg stood behind his service and performed the process again without hesitation. They are customer focused and will do what they tell you, when they tell you and stand behind their company and products/services. These days, it's not often that you find good old fashioned honesty from a company. Generally, we expect pushback when something goes wrong. Not with these folks. Greg stakes his reputation on doing it right and doing the right thing. Great to work with!

The provider emailed me the next day to state he does not service my area. I have requested a refund from Angie's List.

Overall, the work itself met my expectations and my deck looks 10x better than it did initially. The work was completed quickly and promptly once we engaged the provider. However, the provider tended not to keep me in the loop regarding when they would show up to inspect the deck and perform the various task items. I realize this additional communication is not strictly necessary, as all work is done outside and they bill my mail. Still, I would have preferred an occasional email or phone call/voicemail to keep me updated on status and approximately when they would stop by to perform work.

The service was very good. They came and did everything they said they would.

When the job was completed, I wasn't happy with the how the deck looked. The deck was gray and dull before they applied the sealer and the floor was still gray. The spindles looked better, like they had been treated. They had the gold look as I would have expected. Not so the floor. When it rained, the deck acted like a sponge, soaking up the water which I thought wasn't supposed to happen. When I called DRS about that, Greg Peters told me that that was how this sealer worked, that water wasn't supposed to "bead", which I though was very odd. But he was the professional, so I believed him. The next spring, the deck looked awful. The spindles looked okay, but not like they had been treated only a year ago by a professional company and the floor looked even worse. So I called Mr. Peters and said I wanted him to look at it again. I said that I trusted his company because of the excellent ratings he received from Angie's List and the BBB. I asked him if he would be happy if his deck looked like this and although he didn't respond to my question, he did agree that he would redo the deck. His crew returned and did the deck again. When I saw the finished product, I was shocked that it didn't look much better. I realized that this company didn't have a clue how to improve the appearance of my deck. I decided that I wouldn't have them come back until this summer, when I saw rotting on the floor of my deck. Once again, I called Mr. Peters and had him look at the rotting board and the overall appearance of my deck. He responded that the reason why my deck looked like it did is because of the intense western sun. I was completely taken aback by this. Are there no other decks that are exposed to intense sun in the summertime? Is Mr. Peters and his company unfamiliar with products that might hinder the rotting of wood decks? His resolution to the problem was to replace the board but I would be charged for it. I will never have his company return or recommend it to anyone else. But I felt that you needed to know that I am extremely unhappy with the work DRS did. I think in concept, Angie's List is a great idea. But in practice, relying solely on how you rate them is not.

They were very informative and helpful and answered all my questions.

Greg was very prompt in giving me an estimate and flexed the time that the job was scheduled to be done around some other work I was having done on the house. The crew completed the job in 2 days and performed the work as expected.

I liked the quality of the work. I also liked the crew that came out to work on the deck. The service took about 2 days to complete. The crew manager knew more about the details than the actual guy that did the estimate for me.

It took them about 5 days; it did rain and they had to let things dry. It was a great experience. When we first brought him over here to do the deck for us, I was reading his business card, it said they provided some other jobs too. They gave us an estimate, that I thought was reasonable, so we went with them for those services.

The first time that I called this company I was impressed that they returned my call almost immediately - even though I initially called after 5 p.m. on a Friday. Greg came out on a Saturday to explain my options and give me an estimate. After the work was completed, I had concerns about the color because it was showing too much dirt (I have dogs). Greg came out and did a complimentary pressure wash. The stain did not hold up well during the winter, and Greg came back out in early spring and offered to re-stain the affected areas. He ended up re-doing the entire deck, staining it a darker color, which does not show the dirt as much. I was pleased with Greg's responsiveness to phone calls and emails right from the beginning, and I am impressed by his desire to provide good customer service. He stated several times that he wanted me to be happy with the results - and I am. The men who did the work on the re-staining were professional, courteous, and friendly - and wanted to be sure that I was happy with the color and the work. I would recommend this company.

It went very well. The deck and fence looks brand new. Greg Peters, the owner, was very attentive to all our needs. Steve, the man in charge, was great. Very competent. I am very happy we chose them and would again!!

THE WORK CREW WERE SEASONED PROFESSIONALS. AS WORK PROGRESSED THEY WOULD POINT OUT CERTAIN FEATURES THAT MAY BECOME A PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. I REALLY LIKED THAT. THAT TOLD ME A LOT ABOUT THEIR ORGANIZATION AND THEIR COMMITMENT TO DO A GREAT JOB. MY FAMILY AND I ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THEIR WORK.

I called DRS to get a quote to have the wooden stairs that lead up to my screened in front porch replaced. The old wood was rotten and unsafe. Greg (the owner came out) within a few days to take a look at what I needed done. He had a quote to me within a few weeks and it was competitive with another company's quote, except DRS's quote included material, whereas the other company's quote did not. Naturally I went with DRS. Steve and Dan from DRS came on a Tuesday and demo'd the parts of the stairs that were rotten and left the parts that were still in good shape. They came back on Wednesday with all of the material they needed and built the stairs back up. They worked with me on adding an additional stair at the bottom which added some more time and cost, but it was worth it. The two days Steve and Dan were working on our place were hot, but they did not complain. And they had to get under our front porch to secure the house side stringer, which meant they had to deal with an apparent snake problem that we did not know about. So these guys were troopers, to say the least. They do good work. Everyone I spoke with at DRS was very responsive and willing to work with me on certain specifications. I would recommend them to friends and potentially use them on our deck in the back of the house in the future.

Contacted DFRS in April/May after seeing good reviews from Angie's List. Greg came by to look at the job and give an estimate. He was very prompt and spent a fair amount of time reviewing the job with me and talking details. He mentioned that with the weather and workload it may take until June to get into the queue. June came around and I hadn't heard anything from DFRS. I called them and apparently there was no "ticket" in the system so I wasn't even scheduled for the work. It was early July before they came out to sand/clean and repair the stairs. The clean and sanding seemed good to me although with my type of deck color there were a lot of spots that still had the old stain on. The deck stair repairs, however, were not at all what I had expected. I thought we had discussed replacing the existing stairs because there was a split in the left stringer. I had done a temporary repair thinking that DFRS would replace. However DFRS simply cut a new stringer and nailed it to the existing stringer. When I called DFRS Greg said a job like that would have costed a lot more and that it wasn't his expectation to replace the stairs entirely. Again I thought we had covered that during his initial visit. So, we were obviously not on the same page. A few days later they were supposed to apply the color but did not end up coming out. I was called the next day to say they'd be in early the next week instead. In fact, they actually came out that Saturday to do the work. I did not get a call to let me know they were coming earlier. The applied color looked really good, and I'm happy with the coverage they did on the deck. They used some kind of sprayer to apply the stain and it got EVERYWHERE. Pretty much every surface was covered including the sump-pump line, deck lights, and some of the siding along our house. I called DFRS to come cleanup the house siding which they did promptly. Overall, I was fairly happy with the actual deck coverage but expected more professionalism from the workers who applied the stain. I think communication could be a LOT better, and I think having them do the work when nobody is home is not a great idea. I would have preferred to be around to see the work and make sure things were ready. DFRS would not be my first choice to perform this work again.

Workers were a bit lax about guarding some shrubs, & one individual walked through a flower bed. Stain coverage was fair. I made note of these on the form included with the check. Because of my comments,a call was made to me immediately. After a reevaluation of the deck , they did do over the "floor". Plants and shrubs are fine, but I am irked that the workers were not as careful about that aspect of the procedure. It seems to be an honorable and worthy company.

Cleaning process went very well, they were able to get up what they could. We had previously used other stain that left it splotchy. DFRS came in and pressure washed & cleaned it all. When it looked like the stain previously chosen wouldn't look good, they discussed with us about other colors. Their guys matched up both fence & deck and it looks great!

Short version: They responded quickly, gave me a fair price, quoted me for semi-solid stain and applied solid deck cover instead. I was happy with the quoted price and the quality of work. However I was quite peeved that I was quoted semi-solid (even had a detailed conversation with DRS about the brand, color, and type of stain (semi-solid) I wanted to have applied. Yet they still applied solid stain. Full version: DRS was very quick in responding to my initial request for a quote. The price for the size of my deck (approx 700 sq. feet) was very fair (approx. $1000.00). I discussed with them that the deck was only stained once since it was built in 2010 and was stained with the same brand of stain that DRS uses (Defy). I informed them specifically of the brand, color, and type (semi-solid) that was used on the 1st staining and they agreed to use the same thing. They estimated doing the work in approx. 2 to 4 weeks. They were upfront about not giving me a solid start date, since it had been very rainy and the forecast was calling for rain for the next several days. The person from DRS told me they wanted to get the best result, which required the deck being dry before cleaning and applying stain. I appreciated their honesty and agreed to their estimated time frame. After about 4 weeks, I ended up receiving a voicemail on Sunday afternoon from DRS saying they would be there the next morning (Monday) to start the pressure washing. I have to say, their notice was a little short and I'm glad I was home to clear off the furniture before their arrival. I called them back to tell them I was ready and asked when they would actually do the staining. I was told "later in the week" (Thursday / Friday), since rain was forecast for Tuesday. I arranged to work from home on Thurs. / Friday since I wanted to be there to see them get started. DRS never told me I had to be home, but I like to make sure everything goes according to the quoted plan. When I came home from work on Tuesday, I was surprised to find my deck had been stained with solid stain. NO ONE CALLED ME to tell me they were coming on Tuesday and no one said anything about solid stain. The actual quote, specified they would be using "System #2" which specifies "solid stain", but the person who provided the quote hand wrote "semi-solid" above the "solid stain" description. Regardless of this quote and our specific conversation (a month earlier) about using semi-solid stain, they applied a solid deck cover without notifying me they were coming or using that stain.

Greg was very responsive to my phone calls and very patient with my delay in making color choices, etc.. He was more than willing to make recommendations and to do the job the way I wanted it done. I was not in a hurry to have the work done, but he always kept me informed of when the workers would be there, etc. and very apologetic when the weather caused delays. Although the work wasn't as perfect as I had hoped - I expected the cracks to be filled in better with the Revive which Greg explained was due to the nature of the product and I had to ask for the spindles to be repainted in a few places (which was done quite willingly and without hesitation ), the deck looks so much better than it did. Greg was obviously doing everything he could to make me a happy customer!

The owner is very professional and responsive. Excellent communication. The job looks great. I will definitely use their service again!

They cleaned/sealed our deck, it is 350 square feet just to help put the cost in perspective, I found the price to be very reasonable. They did a good job and I would have no qualms using them in the future. One thing I would like to note is our water pressure is low and they couldn't get the pressure washer working, essentially making a trip for nothing the first day. I offered Greg a trip charge and he refused. They worked with me and we came up with a solution to get the pressure washer working and all went well. I would recommend them, they do a good job at a very reasonable price.

Greg and his team were very professional. He was very prompt in providing a quote and very helpful with advice on new stain color and my best options to fix a hole from having a tree removed that was built around the deck and did not survive the winter. They were on time, worked hard and finished the job quickly. I am extremely pleased with the work that was done and will continue to use this company for all future deck work. Thank you Greg!!

They did a fantastic job. My deck looks great and the lattice is so sturdy! Most of my old deck stain had come off and the wood was grey. After they finished it looks like a brand new deck! They came when they said they would and completed everything in two days. I would definitely use them again!

It went very smoothly. They were able to accomplish all work without anyone there from our household. They cleaned up after themselves very well, also. And there was constant phone communication to ensure we were in sync regarding what would be done and when.
