Deck & Fence Renewal Systems

Unfortunately I was unable to be on site when Greg came out to write an estimate. There were a few mis -communications, I believe because of this. However, after we were all able to get on the same page, Greg was more than fair and even I believe lost money on this project! His crew exemplified the utmost professionalism and absolutely worked their a**** off! They worked non-stop until dark. This project turned out to be a lot more than they bargained for I think, but that was never passed on to me, Greg absorbed a lot of costs. The crew the next day did an excellent job of staining the deck and you can barely tell the difference between the 15 year old planks and the new ones. I had the option of having a stain that's used on docks, which I chose. The quality of the product is outstanding. I believe one of the big reasons my deck staining looks so good is I chose to have the superior product to be applied. Greg explained the differences and since I don't stain and seal but every 5 yrs. or so he recommended it. I can't say enough about the workmanship and professionalism of his crew. They were on time and always working. I was always able to talk to Greg and I always felt he was on my side. Because of the mis-communication, I ended up with a $5000. deck and only paid $2300. and change. Greg, you have an amazing business with an amazing crew. You obviously work very hard to maintain that. The only advice I would have for you is to write everything down. Draw out plans in duplicate, one for me, one for you and one for your crew. Have your customers sign it and list prices of everything you might conceivably come across. Had you done that, I think the lines of communication would have been clearer. But I totally trust you and your crew and I will call you again should I need your services. Congratulations on a job well done!

Very well. I have used them before and they remember to protect our climbing vines. They were on time and responsive to my calls. They used a common Sherwin-Williams product. This is a visit process, with a day or two in between.

Excellent. They waited around 10 days from first power wash to doing the actual work (rain/clear skies played a factor in the delay). But once they got here, team of 4 men got the job done in just a few hours. Excellent Sherwin Wiliams solid stain applied. Very professional.

Had I pieced out all the various processes, I'm sure this would have been at least a $1,500 job. I combined the repairs, power washing, and the stain-seal process with Deck Renewal Systems because I've done business with this company in the past and trust their workmanship. The craftsmanship of the carpenter's work was superb. Power washing is, well, power washing. No issues there. I was however very impressed with the stain and seal process. Billy and Amanda were very careful to use tarps and tape to protect the brickwork, siding, and paver stone. They also tarped off areas where the birds and squirrels fed. They did an initial heavy stain on the newer boards and trim, so I wouldn't have a two-toned appearance. At the end of the job, after all other surfaces were treated, they revisited the new boards and put on a second coat. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. Thank you DRS for your great work!

I am very pleased with this company and I would highly recommend and I would use them again. My deck is 30 + years ago and it was in need of cleaning, replacing boards and staining. They did an excellent job. Were very clean. Protected my house and bushes. They were here when they said they would be - no follow up phone calls to find out when they would be here. My deck looks brand new!

I called to set up an appointment to have our deck (screened-in and exposed) looked over since it was 15 years old and needed much work. Greg responded to my call immediately and did the work the next day (we were lucky with the weather). Since we called early in the year he gave us a good price. He was very honest and said that the screened-in portion did not need any work. We thought the work would take days, but two men were sent over and finished in a few hours. (Staining will have to wait until next year since the wood takes some time to cure). The men were very polite and clean. The deck looks great. Greg was very personable and it was a pleasure to do business with him.

Service and product were excellent. The weather delayed the construction by several weeks. As soon as the rain cleared they had it built in a day and a half.

We wanted to sell the house & the deck was in a state of disrepair. They came at short notice & their workmanship was excellent. They had to go into the house & up 3 flights of stairs to perform the work. They left everything in a clean & tidy condition & followed up afterwards to ensure that we were happy with the job.

Great company to do business with. This is second time I've worked with them. Took time to explain all of my options. Made clear recommendations. A few months after their second round of service with me, I had a concern. The owner came to my home within a day or two to discuss with me the situation, which turned out to have been more of an issue with the way a few of the pieces of decking were installed than with anything Deck and Fence Renewal Systems did. Nevertheless, he sent out a crew at no cost to go over some areas a second time and I had a chance to discuss with him how installation issue would affect future scheduled maintenance. Highly recommend them and plan to do business with them in future.

Overall, the deck ended up sanded and stained, so that was good. The process itself was uneven at best. There was little communication from the provider - we bought a deck restoration deal and they randomly showed up one day, then left an estimate with additional costs (that weren't explained) in our door. We had several days of rain, then they randomly showed up one day to powerwash the deck - and in the process, flattened all of my plants around the front of the deck. The plants were not only knocked flat, but covered with dirt and debris and there were areas where the powerwashing had clearly kicked up clodes of dirt from the flower bed itself. I didn't even know the powerwashing was going to happen the day that it did - I came home to find a catalogue of stain colors to choose from stuck in my front door and a powerwashed deck (and flattened garden). There was no other note or any communication left except for the stain catalogue - I had to call the next day to find out what I was supposed to do and how things would be scheduled. I would have expected at least a head's up phone call (or even an email!) that said "We're going to come by today to begin work, we'll leave a stain sample book for you to choose from..." But nothing. Just a "Oh! Well, I guess they came out today. Huh." When I called to discuss ask about the next steps and select a stain, I also brought up my flattened plants. At first, the person I spoke to started to get defensive, then settled down and tried to explain to me what probably happened - he was sure the worker had placed a tarp over the plants, the power washing itself is really powerful, etc. It honestly felt like a brush-off to me, but I also understand that things happen, it just seemed really careless. I did ask that they take more care around the plants when they came out to stain - he assured me they would. When they came out to stain the deck, it was, again, without a real heads-up, though I at least had a timeframe in mind since I had called them. The stain job itself looked fine - I mean, the deck was stained, so that was a check in the win column. HOWEVER, several of my plants were also covered in stain, as were the leaves on the tree by the deck and the ground around the deck. A tree seedling that was close the deck was completely red. On top of all of that, I felt I was a little taken in by the deal, but I'll own that. I should have done my due diligence and found out exactly what the costs would be and why it would cost $350 more than the $439, that I thought included power washing, sanding, and staining on our very ordinary-sized deck. I understand that there can always be extra costs, but I wasn't anticipating that much overage - especially for such non-communicative and relatively careless service. Overall - I got what I paid for, and our deck was restored. I just wish getting it done would have been a smoother process. I learned my lesson to always, always follow up to understand deal limitations. That's totally on me. As for the work itself - the deck is great. My plants, not so much. I won't hire them again because I don't feel my concerns - when I raised them about the power washing knocking over my plants - was taken seriously or communicated to the worker. Especially when several of my plants ended up stained red like the deck.

Greg's crew showed up on time and completed the work in a timely manner. At the time, deck #2 was unsafe for use as it had very little support and when walking on the deck I could feel the slack in the floor board. Greg's crew was very efficient and repairing/reinforcing supports or replacing rotting floorboards. They cleaned the site of all discarded materials and hauled them away and as soon as weather cleared the following day sent another crew member out to stain. Greg also offered to return in the spring to add another coat of stain to the decks. Good job!

It was actually not mold, but moss that had grown under the deck. This is, however, tricky work because the water and the moss are falling down on the worker as he is cleaning off the underside. Work was done on time and at budget. Couldn't be happier. DRS has come through again. .

Spoke w/ owner, Greg Peters, to schedule his crew while I was at home. GP said he would schedule me later in the day. Crew came early and told me that they were not informed of my discussion with owner about coming later. Crew was nice and professional. I have no problems with them but they missed a few spots so I called and spoke to Greg to let him know that a few spots were missed. A day or two after I spoke to Greg, a crewmember showed up to let me know that she would be finishing my deck and I asked her if Greg mentioned the missed spot locations on the deck and she said he had not spoke to her about it so I showed her where they were. She got most of them and wrote a note and taped it to the side of the house letting me know that she would tell the office about the missed spots and that they would be in contact. About 1-2 weeks went by and no one called but we received an invoice which indicated the non-Angie's list price of $1,375. Prior to our accepting the bid my wife had spoke to someone in the office and discussed this discount. This person approved the $50 Angie's List discount but the invoice did not account for this. I emailed Greg Peters (I have the entire email thread) to let him know that I was dissatisfied with all the communication problems and I did not want to communicate by phone because I did not trust him. I then asked for a $100 discount for my having spent the extra time spent because of his inability to communicate and because there were still two areas that had been missed and that for this discount I would finish the deck myself. Despite Mr. Peters agreeing to this he then sent a follow up email asking me when they could come over and finish the job. Because of this I told Mr. Peters by way of email, not to come to my home, and he even called my wife, after all of that, despite our having everything in writing. I have only written about the summary and generalities of my dealings with Mr. Peters. To put things as politely as possible; It seems that Mr. Peters is unbalanced and he posses no ability to communicate at any level. This very simple transaction turned out to be a nightmare because of Mr. Peters and Mr. Peters only (it seems that he likes to blame things on his employees). The only good thing about his company is that his field employees were pleasant and were customer-focused and overall did a good job.

I bought the Big Deal for a deck cleaning but my deck needed a lot more work (and money) than I thought. I got a refund and will use the money toward a whole new deck instead.

Greg came to our house twice before we the project project. First, he gave us a quote on our deck, & then he came back after we found he could also seal & protect our driveway. We were leaving on a trip to Europe & he patiently waited for us to get back to him. Once we connected & confirmed our decisions, he was able to schedule our week in a prompt fashion. Greg alerted us to plan, crew showed up on time, were very neat & efficient. Greg also followed up to make sure we were happy with his team's work. Greg also gave us some advice on future maintenance. Very happy!

DRS was very easy to work with. Greg provided me a reasonable quote to clean my composite deck (Trex) and I decided to let them do the cleaning, even though I was very hesitant to allow it to be powerwashed. Even the Trex site suggests against powerwashing, instead recommending a cleaner be applied with a brush. What drove me to DRS was that I tried to do what Trex suggested, and I used a product called Corte Clean, which worked well, but which required a lot of time and labor. I personally spent hours on my hands and knees rubbing hard to remove mildew from the shaded parts of the deck. It was hard work and it would have taken me literally days to fully complete, so I decided to pay a professional to get it cleaned. That's when I consulted Angie's List and selected DRS because of their high ratings. I first emailed Greg expressing my concern about powerwashing a composite deck, then I called him and spoke to him a second time. Greg reassured me that they powerwash composite decks all the time, with good results. So, I decided to trust that it would turn out fine and so I had DRS do the cleaning. While they did a good job, and they were very responsive, timely and did the job within a week of my acceptance of their proposal, I was not as satisfied as I was hoping to be. Yes, the deck is clean and clear of mildew and dirty spots -- no issues there. However, the deck "finish" is no longer uniform as it was prior to the cleaning, and parts of the deck looked washed out. It appears there were parts of the deck that required stronger spray than others, leading to the washed out look. The deck looks like it aged another 5 more years right after the cleaning. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy that it is clean and the mildew is gone. DRS is a good company to do business with and I would use them again for wood deck and fence cleaning and renewal. I was just hoping for a better overall result with my composite. My advice is to tread carefully if you have a composite deck -- other customers with composite decks have been very satisfied with DRS, so perhaps it was my own expectations. Regardless, I heartily recommend DRS! They were easy to work with, the deck is clean, and the price was very reasonable.

They were very careful and covered everything that could get spray on , including a car that I forgot to move when we were gone that day. The men were very professional and courtious in all that they did. I was very satisfied and glad I called them. Greg called me when I had chosen a color and let me know that that particular shade would mostly come out orange looking and not brown. He then recommended a shade that we are very happy with. A great way to do business. They were honest and reliable about everything---from the time he would come to give the estimate, too the day they would do the work. They are A-1 in my book.

I hired this company due to their rating on Angie's list. I had two others who were not rated as highly as this company. There was some confusion about when the work was to be performed, but we got that worked out. I was not happy with the result. When I called to pay, the lady that answered the phone was very nice and when I told her I was unhappy, she said she would have the owner call me before I paid because they wanted me to be completely satisfied. The call came in less than ten minutes. I was told that with the abundance of rain that we had, it just needed another coat. I was out of town on business and they showed up at 7 PM at night and "did another coat". My wife was home and she said they were there less than 30 minutes. It is very obvious and I have had comments from my neighbors that the color is not continuous. The spindles on the decking look like they were missed both times in some areas. But more than the continuity in color, I am concerned that there was not enough sealer applied to protect the wood. Overall the job is OK, but it is definitely not worth the $675 price. I will probably go to Menards or Lowes and buy stain/sealant and do it myself which I should have done in the first place, but didn't because of upcoming knee surgery. Make no mistake, this company was professional on the phone and did make the 2nd trip before I paid. I guess I was just expecting more. They are an A rated company on Angie's list and that should speak for itself, but in this case, I could not recommend them to my friends. I paid the bill and I am not looking for anything else from the company, but I will not use them again.

Called before coming out..great follow up..

Our deck was looking a bit weathered and had chips of wood breaking off. They came by & power washed the deck(as well as our front porch. They came back a few days later, after the deck had dried and tidied things up a bit (took up loose splinters, stabilized railings, hammered protruding nails back into their proper positions,etc.). The deck was then treated with the new Sherwin Williams "Super Deck". It looks great and we are pleased with the conscientious work that was done. Owner and crew were very polite and professional.

Installed in less than a day with very little mess. Did an excellent job for us. Very professional work. Excellent company.

He cleaned the deck with a pressure washer even though I advised him that it needed to be hand brushed. The cleaner that he used also did not clean the mold off the deck. I asked him to come back out and scrub the desk, he agreed to come out and scrub the deck and not charge me for this, he has added $400 to the bill for this work. There had been a lot of rain and they decided to come and stain the deck about 8 hours after it rained. It sealed in the moisture. The stain was sprayed on - redwood stain is supposed to be brushed or rolled on. All of these processes that were performed were not appropriate for my redwood deck. The company was completely rude, I felt that they rushed the job.

My first initial phone call to them was June 9, 2015. I called them back on 06.16 & they said that they would be on 06.17 (never showed). They called on 06.20 & said that they would be out later that afternoon (they didn't show up). They called back & then said that they would be out 06.21 & on 06.21 they never showed up and I haven't heard from them since.

This was my three year renewal. I have used this company in the past. They have performed superior service at a very reasonable price. They were prompt and reliable this time, as they were in the previous service 3 years ago. This deck is over 30 years old, but you cannot tell that by looking at it. The precision work that Greg's crew has done over the years has kept it in excellent shape and appearance. His guys power washed everything in one day, let it dry, and three days later applied the sealer/stain. They completed all the work and finished the cleanup before I came home from work. There was no overspray or stain on surrounding siding or paver tiles. They taped that off before applying the sealer. A JOB WELL DONE!!! I highly recommend Deck & Fence Renewal Systems to all family, friends, and neighbors.

It went very well. They came on Saturday. They came on the week they promised me. They had a delay because somebody stole one of their vehicles but they still managed to get me in on the week they promised. The owner came out and gave me a quote. They stuck at the time they said they would be here even though they had some issues with them. The people that I worked with explained what they were doing and the products clearly. They made sure that I understood exactly what I was getting while I was here. The owner did too. It was a little different than what I thought I was getting but it turned out great. I was very happy with them. I'd give them a 10 all the way around.
