Deck & Fence Renewal Systems

My old deck and fence look wonderful! They even repaired some broken boards on the very old fence at a very reasonable cost - saved me from having to buy an entire new section of fencing. Color match was perfect and stain is of good quality - I'm sure it will last many years.

Very well overall. Could not get 100% of old stain off, but got most of it off before sealing. Did a good job blending the color with the old stain that could not be stripped off. Very neat--covered areas with tarps as needed and left no spills. Even stained our mailbox post at no extra charge!

I called for an estimate and Greg, the owner, came out the same day. He was very personable and quoted a price of $599 ($659 - $60 promotion price) for the deck, $42 to replace a rotten board, and $250 to sand all horizontals. He said to clean and stain my outdoor deck furniture would be $150. And he would pressure-wash my 10' x 14' walk-out concrete slab for free. He recommended a semi-transparent stain for the deck and furniture. Total QUOTED Price: $1,041. A week or so later, his crew came to do the work. Immediately the crew leader said they could not do the deck as estimated because of the stain I had used previously. He said they had to use a solid stain, and it would be an extra $200. He called Greg to express his concern, then Greg called me and apologized about the inaccurate quote. He said it must have been a rainy day when he looked at my deck. I don't think it was. Anyway, I reluctantly agreed to proceed, not sure if I was a "bait and switch" victim. I was then asked to pick a color from the solid stain chart. I did, but when they returned with the stain, the color didn't match they deck. NOTE: Greg had warned me that colors may not be accurate on the color chart, but didn't offer a fool-proof way to match a color. So, I suggested taking a railing from the deck to Sherwin-Williams that was the color I wanted to match. SW scanned and matched it perfectly. It would have saved me time and trouble had we done this originally. Another complaint is that they didn't sand the horizontal surfaces on the furniture arms, which would have made them much more comfortable, and taken very little time. I thought this was part of the estimate. I received an invoice about a week later for $1,321.67. Greg didn't include $80.67 sales tax in his quote. (All of the other contractors I have worked with lately DO.) So, I am pleased overall, but the mis-quote, upcharge, color match problem, unsanded furniture arms, and sales tax surprise took the shine off the experience.

My deck was in desperate need of refinishing... It had not been done in 20 years! When I started to research prices on Angie's List, I was surprised to see that the average cost had doubled since then. I got a few estimates and when Deck & Fence Renewal Systems called me back with a 10% price reduction, I jumped at it. They did an awesome job. One day, my deck was weathered and grey and two days later, it was a beautiful brown and looked brand new! I will call them again.

They were good. I had waited a long time, about just three weeks but they look like they do a pretty good job. The quality was fine and they did an excellent job. The price seemed reasonable to me. He was quick to respond.

We contacted the company for a price quote and received one with in a few days. Each phase was completed in timely manner. They worked around the weather and our other contractors. We are very happy with the total job and would use the company again.

The pressure washing was done very thoroughly they did not miss any places that I could find. After the sealer was applied the deck looked fantasic. We had thought that the deck would need to be rebuilt but they made it look almost like new. The only negatives were a few of the nails on the new boards backed out but they fixed that.

Our deck has not been cleaned in the five years we've owned the home and was looking very worn down. I requested a quote using their website and was called the next day to confirm. Within a couple days they had someone out to look at our deck and leave a quote on the door. I called and accepted the quote and scheduled service. The wait was about a month. They came out the week they said they would, cleaned the deck one day and sealed it two days later. It looks great. I would use this company again.

I have a deck that was in bad shape - mold, staining, some rot, multiple different stains and paints applied, etc. I'm not at all a novice at home repair and maintenance and I thought I had some pretty realistic expectations for what to expect in terms of results. The first guy to come pressure washed the deck. Very punctual and respectful. He gave a great explanation of what he was going to do, what I should expect, and how long it would take. He took a lot of care in protecting the inside and outside of my property as well. When he was finished the deck dried for a couple of days. A few days later I came home from work and the deck had been sealed. I was completely blow away at the job DRS did. Totally exceeeded my expectations. Even color, perfect color, no blemishes, excellent cleanup, etc., etc. It honestly looks like I have a new deck. The owner is a very honest, straightforward, and trustworthy guy. He was a pleasure to talk to. I will definitely use them exclusisvely in the future.

They returned my call and said if I was home they would leave the quote on my door.

I had sealed our deck myself twice with a poor-quality product and each winter the frozen water would lift it up from the horizontal surfaces. Greg Peters correctly identified the problem and personally & promptly handled all communications with me regarding the job and in setting very realistic and accurate expectations. The professionals from Deck Renewal Systems stripped the prior the product (which I had applied) using a combination of chemical stripper, appropriate force power-washing, and sanding by small electric sanders or hand. Since they did not rely too heavily on equipment (heavy power-washing or large sanders) the complete integrity of the wood was preserved. Their courteous and professional crew took time to properly cover all surfaces that were not to be stained, including covering my driveway for any potential spillage while unloading or refilling their equipment, covering the siding of the house, and the patio around the bottom of the deck's steps. They even sprayed a small coating of [what I believe they told me was] mineral spirits on the glass door pane and windows to prevent any possible specs of spray sticking to glass (potentially caused by a breeze). Amidst all the rain in April, Greg and crew made sure to get to my deck before an important reception I was having at my home in early May. With little time to work between rainy days, they were complete and did not rush the job. I discovered later that one side of one of the posts was not sprayed since the ladder may have rested against it and also the afternoon shadow may have made it hard to tell it had missed being sprayed. When I called Greg Peters to thank him for the job and I mentioned that detail, he insisted on sending someone to spray it immediately. Knowing how busy he was, and how high gas prices are, I insisted that he NOT come right away and to only come if they had another job nearby sometime in the summer. Just as I had requested, someone from his crew came out a few weeks later and sprayed the remaining side of the post. I was delighted to see the follow-through on this small detail, though I was not surprised because Deck Renewal Systems was very proactive and professional on every step of the process!

It was good. They did a good job. The owner came out and inspected the job after his workers were done, and had them redo certain areas that he wasn't happy with. The price was competitive. I will use them again.

They pressure washed the deck, sanded it and applied a coat of opaque painting. The cleaning, sanding and painting crew did a great job. They kept it very clean. I would probably use them again in the future.

Overall, it was a very easy process. I called to get an estimate in the middle of the summer. I didn't have to be home as long as they had access to my deck. Within a few days of my call, they came to my home and left the estimate. They honored the price until I placed the order in September. Again, I did not need to be home at the time of service. They pressure cleaned one day and a couple of days later, came back to seal. The deck looks great and is now protected for the winter weather. I was very happy with their work and will use them again.

I was very impressed with them as they were prompt and punctual. They did their best. Their price was good compared to the others, as their?s was the lowest bid I got. They did a good job.

To say I'm thrilled is an understatement! I could not be happier with the results of this process. We've owned this house for 15 years, and have struggled with maintaining such a large deck. After the thorough cleaning and refinishing, the deck has never looked this good. I highly, highly recommend DRS.

The deck was 18 years old, it was black, green and cracked. When they were done it looked like a new deck, better than when it was put in. They replaced boards, cleaned and sealed it.

Overall deck looks great. First day they pressure washed the deck and one of the railing caps must have broken off. We assumed it would be replaced and treated when they came back the next day to seal the surface. They did not, and didn't make any comment about the broken cap piece. They did a very nice job, were responsive in providing an estimate and doing the work when they said they would. Just wished they would have told us they weren't replacing the piece so we could have done it before they sealed everything.

Our deck was very worn so I had high hopes for this process. Since our kids had been getting splinters, I was glad that the proposal said they spot sand as necessary. According to the pamphlet we were given, I was also expecting a dramatic difference in color once the job was completed. Greg, the man who came to give us our estimate, was very polite and responsive. The guys that came to do the job were professional, but I don't think they would have approached me if I hadn't gone out to say hello and check in with them. The job was finished while we were out of town so I wasn't able to see them finish up. Now that we're home, I am really disappointed with the results. The wood still looks dark and dingy, there are still splinters and shards of wood (it does not look like anything was sanded), and the stain is dripped down on the railings. There are also dark and oily looking spots on a lot of the wood. I haven't called Greg yet to complain, but I intend to. For $799 (with an A.L. discount), I thought it would look better than if we had done it ourselves, which is why we hired someone. I really think it looks worse now.

FYI: I found out that Deck & Fence Renewal Systems will not just clean decks. Rather, they will only do deck cleaning in conjunction with sealing of the deck with the product of their choice. As I wanted to have the deck just cleaned, they would not do the job. When I then asked them if they would clean the deck and treat it with the product that I have been using (OneTime wood finish), they would not do that either, as that is not a product that they use. They returned my phone call within about one day. As I did not use their service, I cannot rate them on the quality of their work or their price.

They stripped everything off the deck, pressure cleaned it and then they sealed it. The job went really well. They were on time. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. The finished product looks great. They also made sure they protected our house when they were pressure cleaning and staining. We didn't have any problems with that.

They were a great company to work with. They came, stripped the deck down and did a very good job of staining it. They came back to make sure that everything was done right. I didn?t pay for the job, and so I don?t know how the price would compare. I would rate them highly and would use them in the future.

Very satisfied with overall experience: competitive pricing, follow-up excellent. Arrived on the date agreed and completed job on time.
