I was impressed. We moved our washer & dryer downstairs. They knew exactly what to do per the code, added new switches in my circuit breaker panel, and ran the electrical lines (one outlet for washer, one 4-prong for dryer).

I have never met a company as professional, prompt and honest as Cullen. From the start Andy was so prompt and even during the holidays responded to my request. Rodney the installer was top notch and a great example of what this company stands for. I am going to use Cullen for ANY electrical need in my new home going forward. I am so impressed on this process from start to finish. No loose ends and this company is solid and don't overcharge.

Very pleased with the work. Nice and neat, and just what we wanted. We were told they would arrive between 7-8am, and they arrived around 7:40. We hadn't had a prior quote, so Rodney quoted the job at $410 which seemed reasonable. They went for parts, and returned spending right at 2 hours completing the job. The only prior outlet in the garage was from the 50's, so couldn't really run anything that pulled amperage on that outlet. We now have a 240V for the heater which arrives tomorrow, plus 4 110's with a GFCI. Chest freezer has been relocated to the garage. We've been talking about needing to do this for over a year. Very pleased with the end result.
Description of Work: Needed garage outlets added. 240V for a garage wall heater and a 4 outlet for 110V.

I had called another company, which acted as if my concerns of safety and need for power in my home were a major inconvenience and which started the conversation with how very expensive this type of emergency service was going to be, requiring their people to have to work after hours. So, I called Cullen Electric and was treated much differently. The woman who answered the phone was sympathetic to my concerns, listened patiently and then got Andrew on the phone to answer my specific questions about safety first. Lili and Tyler came out to assess the situation that afternoon. They were both prompt and very nice to work with. Lili expressed concern for my situation, made sure that I had safe power (dry breakers) for the necessities for the evening and immediately ordered all the parts necessary for complete service replacement for the next day. She and Tyler returned at the agreed upon time the next morning and made short order of replacing all the water damaged parts from the roof to the basement. They were clean, tidy and professional - worried about protecting my home, carpeting and pets. After discussing the cost of the service replacement with others, it seems the price was close to what others have had to pay - it was just an unexpected expense to me. However, it is worth it considering the urgency of my situation and the confidence Cullen Electric instilled in me with their courteous and very prompt service.
Description of Work: New service for very old house, after rain water was coming through electric box causing power to flicker on and off (mostly OFF).

I originally contacted Cullen Electric Inc. to install two ceiling fans and an outside electric receptacle. I was very specific during the phone call that the ceiling fans were a new installation that would require the electrician to install an electrical junction box in the ceiling. I was quoted a price of $99 for a service call plus an additional $119 per hour for the work which I agreed to and was pleased when the receptionist advised she was able to get me on the schedule for around noon the next day. She noted that he electrician would call me about a half hour before arrival. I should have realized my error in hiring Cullen Electric when two of their employees, Paco and Angel, arrived at my house unannounced at 11:30 p.m. at which time Paco proceeded to explain he was there to replace two ceiling fans. After advising Paco that was not the work I ordered, I walked him and Angel through the needed work during which I noted the two ceiling fans were for two upstairs bedrooms and had remote controls therefore did not require a wall switch. Paco stated he needed to send Angel to Lowe’s to obtain some supplies. At this point, I should have cancelled the work order and sent Paco packing because it was obvious he was in over his head. Unfortunately, after contacting the owner of Cullen Electric and receiving reassurances that Paco was qualified to complete the work, I agreed to allow him to proceed. What a bad decision. After approximately a half hour, I heard Paco cutting drywall with a handsaw. When I went to see what he was cutting, I discovered he had cut a hole in the bedroom wall directly above another wall switch. After strongly expressing my displeasure at the location of the wall switch (above an already installed switch) and noting the ceiling fans worked by remote, Paco claimed the switch was required by code. I again noted the location did not meet with my approval and should have been discussed with me before cutting any drywall. It may be hard to believe but things actually went downhill from there. It would take me pages to describe all the poor workmanship I observed over the next three hours. To say Paco and Angel boarded on a joke would be an understatement. They finally finished the install shortly after 3:00 pm and I use the word “install” very liberally. Watching them work during those 3 hours was the most painful experience of my life. Paco and Angel obviously had never installed a ceiling fan before and quite frankly were the two most unprofessional workers I have ever met. When they finished, I discovered the wall switch does absolutely nothing. It does not turn the fan or its light off or on. It just sits there to cover up Paco’s mistake of cutting into the drywall in the first place. To make matters worse, the fan does not sit flush to the ceiling and as a result, the fixture shakes when the fan is on. I asked them to leave without requesting they fix their poor workmanship because quite frankly it was obvious they did not know what they were doing and would be incapable of fixing their errors. I was scared they would make matters worse by doing more damage. When they departed, they left insulation from the attic and other debris on the floor which I had to clean up along with dirty hand prints on the ceiling which will require re-painting. In a nutshell, I would not re-hire Cullen Electric and would strongly recommend that any Angie List members find another electrical contractor for any projects they have. It should be noted that Cullen only billed my $179 for the work but unfortunately I consider even that too much considering the poor quality of the work and the incompetency of their employees. I have attached photos showing the two switches one on top of the other and the over ¼ inch gap between the ceiling and the fan. I also attached pics attempting to show the handprints on the ceiling and the debris.
Description of Work: Originally hired to install two ceiling fans and an outside electrical receptacle. However, do to the poor quality of the work only one of the ceiling fans was installed after which I requested they leave my property.

Response from Cullen Electric Inc
Thank you for your review! When our team left the job site I had no idea this member had endured such a horrific customer service experience. I was heading out of town the next morning and received an email from the homeowner about this while we were waiting in the terminal. Needless to say I was shocked and dismayed that someone would have this perception of the service they received. I immediately contacted my in town management team and had our Ops Manager respond to inspect this member's property as soon as he could get there that day. He examined the issues. Agreed they could have and should have been done with a higher standard of quality and then he proceeded to modify the original install. We fixed the issues the homeowner had with everything and I also had our professional drywall repair and painting contractor respond to his residence to tidy things up that same afternoon. We also refunded the homeowner's original payment as a final token of our outright embarrassment at this situation. My team consists of human beings that are capable of fantastic work 99.9% of the time. However we are human beings and make mistakes. In this case we had a quality failure that was obvious and frankly embarrassing to me as the owner of the Company. However what separates us from others is we do care when we miss the mark and will do whatever it takes to make sure our valued homeowners are 100% satisfied when we leave. No one likes to make mistakes. I wish I never had to respond to a homeowner's review of this type. Unfortunately we missed the mark on this one but I left a happy homeowner by the manner in which we responded to his disappointment. I apologized to this member and am grateful he allowed us the opportunity to make sure his installation was 100% to his satisfaction. We will use this as a training aid to strive to reach that 100% goal as we continue forward. The original review was a "F"; deservedly so. The member changed it to an "A" based on our response to his issues. Thank you again for the opportunity to assist you and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors! Andrew Cullen

The work went as expected and the electricians did a great job. The wiring was moved where we wanted it and the copalum was installed where the work was done. A junction box was put in above the door to tie in the wiring to the outside wall. Since the walls in the bathroom were being remodeled I told the electricians just to cut wholes where needed in the drywall instead of going through R60 attic insulation and fishing it down that way. The wholes were at a minimum and easily repaired later. The project began with a call from Andy Cullen and another gentleman coming out to look at the job before giving the bid. This was a selling point for us considering other companies did not offer that level of service. From the initial call to the job bid, to the electricians who did the work it was a positive experience. We highly recommend Cullen Electric and appreciate their professional level of service.
Description of Work: We needed some wiring moved because we were putting in a pocket door for a bathroom remodel. We also have aluminum wiring so we looked for a company using the copalum system for our needs. The wiring was moved from an inside wall over a door to an outside wall outside the room as you walk in. There was also another minor repair to an outside line removing an old timer.

The electrician was on time. They sent their best troubleshooter to our job since the outlet caught fire out of the blue and was not being used at the time. She took a good look around, and determined the cause was from and old, original socket that was worn and had been under heavy load by a previous owner. She not only fixed the socket, but checked the wiring in the wall and made sure it wouldn't happen again. She ended up having to cut out bad wiring and moving the socket a few inches. She left the work area clean and neat, and did a great job communicating with us what happened with the plug. I have some additional work that needs to be done, and I will definitely hire them for my other work.

They would only come to replace the fan.
Description of Work: Called about getting 3 speed chain pull replaced on ceiling fan. Easy fix, but one of the wired is a bit thin, and I'd feel more comfortable with a professional doing it. They offered to release the entire fan for $159.00. Replace the fan for a $6.00 part? I'm willing to pay for an easy job, but they didn't want the business.

Response from Cullen Electric Inc
Good Morning and thank you for your review. Your service request was to replace a three position switch in a ceiling fan. The fan will have to be disassembled, then the part will have to be installed and wired. This involves the same amount of time and expense to perform as the installation of a new fan would (79.00 service charge + 119.00 an hour for labor 45 minutes = 89.25 labor charge = 168.25 - additional 9.25 for AL membership = 159.00) .That is why the "new fan installation pricing" was given to you. Many times homeowners will opt to just replace a fan since it is the same cost, or cheaper than repairing one. A new fan provides a manufacturer's warranty and most homeowners choose this route so the whole fan is new at that point and covered under warranty. There is enormous cost involved in moving an experienced electrician from A to B to perform these calls, and then get them back to the shop. Our pricing structure is reflective of that overhead. We would have been happy to have serviced your request. I apologize if our pricing model wasn't explained in a cogent manner by the person you spoke to on the phone. Thank you and we wish you all the best with your future projects! Andrew Cullen

Great. The work crew was very efficient and professional. Total experience was top notch.
Description of Work: Replaced tube fluorescent lights in finished basement. They used LED lights which look great and barely affected the ceiling drywall (minimum damage with replacement). Other companies did not even suggest them, and wanted to go with old type can lights which would have torn up the ceiling and required extensive drywall repair. Saved us bundles in that respect! Also, we had photo sensors placed on outdoor lights which automatically give dusk to dawn lighting. We were very pleased.

From the first encounter with Will to get our first quote to the final service call to fix our plugs we found that Cullen Electric was second to none in customer service, work ethics, quality workmanship and cost. Will is a very pleasant and outgoing person who instantly makes you feel comfortable. He also brought other team members Miguel and Max to complete the project. They worked very well together and they all did a good job. They arrived in the time frame specified, they worked and completed the project in a timely manner. They were careful of my possessions as they moved around my home and even in the garage. They checked their work and they cleaned up after them selves. I am just so excited to be able to have a service provider in my home that is pleasant and folks I feel like I can trust. I feel like I read about a million reviews to find this particular service provider. I hope that this review will help you with your choice. I highly recommend Cullen Electric and I will continue to use them for any and all service needs that they are capable of handling.
Description of Work: Cullen Electric has provided electrical service for us on 3 occasions. 1) Installed an electrical plug for a new range. (Range Outlet 250V 4 Conductor 50AMP W/ Ground). 2) replaced 1 plug and added 2 dedicated plugs in my kitchen where we added new cabinets. 3) replaced a bad plug in our kitchen which had affected 2 other plugs in the general area.

It went well. We did have to reschedule due to the company overbooking themselves which was fine and they offered 40$ off the srrvice call. I'm not sure that actually happened as our technician didn't mention the discount. They were able to change out the lights and did a decent job, but they replaced them with can lights (their suggestion) and the holes they cut weren't clean, you can see into the ceiling in a couple spots. And they did sweep but we were finding pieces of the ceiling around for forever because they only really half cleaned up. Would still hire again for small things but don't think I would for replacing a fixture.

Good morning and thank you for your review. Could you please call the office when you have a minute. We will be happy to take care of any gaps left in any installed device. We also need to ascertain who was actually at your location since I can not find any record in our scheduling system or accounting system of service being performed under the name on the review. We need to follow up with that person about any mess we may have left. That is unacceptable as well and we apologize. The tech and trainee were on-time and were competent and friendly. When I called, the boss found out enough about the job so that the crew could bring the right parts with them. Also, I asked for an estimate to separate the GFI circuits for the outside recepticals (that sometimes fail in a driving rainstorm) from the basement recepticals that include the plug for a refrigerator. The tech looked at the work, and verified that it would require quite a bit of re-wiring. However, he noted that we have a freezer in the same area on a separate 20 amp line, and recommend that we simply add a receptical to that line for the refrigerator at very nominal cost, and completed the job while he was here.
Description of Work: We had a couple of small jobs replacing a wall switch, a rheostat, and an outside receptocal. Also, a new recptical was installed to separate a basement refrigerati[or from the GFI circuit for outside plugs.
