Description of Work: On 9/22/15 a Columbia sales representative came to our home and gave us an estimate for a bathroom remodeling project. We signed a contract during the visit and gave them a deposit check ($4,947.33) equaling 1/3 of the estimated cost. That same afternoon we changed our mind and contacted the representative informing them of our decision to cancel. | |The next day we went to the Columbia showroom and hand delivered our copy of the contract, with the required signed statement written on it cancelling the agreement. All of this took place well within the 72 hours Ohio law allows for an agreement of this type of contract to be cancelled. We asked the rep for our check but was told it had been given to the Finance department the previous day. The next day our check cleared our financial institution. | |Columbia has repeatedly acknowledged that they owed us a full refund. After innumerable phone calls, emails and text messages we finally received a refund check on 10/15 which we deposited that day. On 10/21 our financial institution notified us the check had been refused by Columbia Exteriors bank with the notation "Refer to maker". A $25 fee was charged as a result of the returned check. | |Since 10/21 we have continued to contact Columbia concerning our refund without satisfaction. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on 10/23 which Chris Craft (the owner) responded to saying he would refund our money and the $25 fee. Nothing has come of this. | |On 11/9 we filed a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General. Columbia has not responded to this as far as we know. | |It is 11/18/15 and as of this evening we still have no resolution. We are continuing to pursue this matter, but wanted any prospective customers of Columbia to have a clear understanding of the way they have handled themselves in this situation and the lack of integrity that they have displayed. |

Description of Work: small bathroom gut and rebuild. New tub, toilet, etc. Tile all around except floor. Tile guys were fantastic. The second finisher was great.(the first one we had was let go because of his sloppiness of his work. Make sure everything in the contract is spelled out. Paint? add it. install towel rods? add it. And DOUBLE CHECK the contract in case the sales guys forgets to add the items discussed. They were also late in getting started. We signed up in early April and work began in OCTOBER!

+ -1 moreOverall, I was satisfied but I had a few concerns about how the workers policed the grounds; as soon as I talked with the crew manager the problems were corrected. I was somewhat peeved at the salesman for telling me the workers wore hard hats and safety goggles as well as covering my flowers with tarps....I saw none of that.
Description of Work: Vinyl siding of 2 1/2 story brick house. Replacement of most of the gutters and downspouts.

+ -1 moreWe called Columbia for an estimate and they came out within a day or so. The salesman quoted us an excellent price that same evening, we picked out the cabinets, and signed the contract. The following week, we went to pick out granite with the salesman. He gave us suggestions for places to look for floor and backsplash tile, and we went to The Tile Store and found exactly what we wanted. Didn't hear anything for about 3 weeks, then we got a call that materials would be delivered the following week, and the job would start a few days after. There was a snafu with the cabinet delivery, and we had to call the office several times to finally get an answer as to when they were being delivered. They finally got back to us and the cabinets got here on a Monday instead of the previous Friday. The job started on the day they told us it would. One man did all of the tear down and rebuild work and he was excellent! Very meticulous, took his time and did things the right way even if it was more time consuming. He cleaned up after himself every day and tried to get us a working kitchen--even if it wasn't complete--as soon as possible. Our kitchen is beautiful now and we would highly recommend this contractor. The only problem we had was that there very little communication from the office. There were 3 weeks in there that we never heard a thing, and were beginning to wonder what was going on. Most of what we knew we got from the tradesman who did the work. We knew which day the job was starting but had no idea what time the worker would arrive. Once the job started, we were very happy. We will definitely use this company again for other work that we need to have done.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel including new cabinets, countertops, backsplash, tile floor, new sink & kitchen faucet, and some electrical work. We had already purchased new appliances and the contractor installed those, too.

I was ok with that but when the day came I was contacted and told they would be out that weekend instead of Friday. No one showed. I had to contact Columbia who asked me if my guteers were cleaned. I said NO! rescheduled again three weeks later and my gutters are clean.

+ 2 moreOverall, I had a very good experience with Columbia Exteriors. The job started on a Thursday and was mostly finished on the following Tuesday. One follow up item was completed about a week later. Throughout the process, the entire Columbia team was very responsive to emails, phone calls and requests. The work took a little longer than expected, but it was worth the wait because quality work was done. I had one issue with the company that supplied the granite and as my contractor, Columbia dealt with them which I appreciated. I have referred a friend to Columbia and will consider them again for additional household projects. Thank you to the entire team!
Description of Work: I hired Columbia Exteriors to update my kitchen. I had an old countertop, backsplash, sink and faucet removed and replaced it with a granite countertop, mosaic backsplash, stainless steel sink and gooseneck faucet.

The cost was higher than others but I felt that it was an honest estimate for the work that was being quoted. The work was completed promptly and in accordance with the estimate. It is now 6 months after the work and I am completely satisfied with the work that was done. I should point out that there is some confusion over the name of the company. I actually worked with and paid Columbia Exteriors LLC but business listings show "Columbia Exteriors LLC/Columbia Home Improvement Ltd."
Description of Work: Roof replacement with full tear down, some new decking, rafter repair, new flashing, ice dams and roof vents.

+ -1 moreOn a Friday afternoon, and after a hard sell from two very persuasive gentlemen, I signed the contract at the first meeting. They brushed off my plea that I should get a few more estimates. They persuaded me that the work needed to get done, and the sooner the better. Suffering 'buyer's remorse, I saw that the contract allowed three days to cancel. I thought that would be my plan for the next Monday. On the following day, however, Saturday, a truckload of supplies was unloaded in my driveway, indicating to me that work was to begin soon, so I put aside thoughts of cancellation. Work proceeded as promised, with workers leaving the following Friday when heavy rain was predicted. I assumed that the odd angles on the downspouts were an accommodation to the threat of rain. Not so. The contractor was responsive to my charges that the condition of the downspouts was unacceptable and they responded immediately and brought the installation to my approval. The modifications performed in this step resulted in a leak that was found only during a downpour a few weeks later. When I again complained the company dispatched a workman to make the necessary repairs, and I have found no reason for further complaint. The company has stood by it's warranty. I should have consulted Angie's list!
Description of Work: Installed new roof, tearing off three layers of shingles. Also replaced all gutters and downspouts. Installed ridge top attic ventilation. My experience was uncomfortable. I should explain.

+ -1 moreThey came to do an estimate and we signed paperwork and they were supposde to get back to us on financing. We called them a couple of times but they never did get back to us. I think it is common courtesy to inform someone that they couldn't come through with financing. Its just bad customer service. Maybe we would have paid cash but now we won't.

+ 1 moreI called Windows Plus, and they told me that they are still in business and going strong, but one of the owners had retired. So this company had lied about what they were doing and were trying to take advantage of their clients as well as their business.
Description of Work: I received a call from a woman, Shandra, that told me that Windows Plus had retired, and that she was taking over their business and clients. She called back later and said she had offered me $1000 off anything I needed (which she did not) and said that she wanted me to take advantage of that. I explained to her that she had not made that offer, only that if I needed any maintenance to call them from now on. She then started pushing to see if I needed any roofing or gutter work done, and then I ended the conversation.
