COBB'S CAR CARE CENTER

Description of Work: I hesitate to write a negative review because I understand the effect it can have on a business and its employees, especially for misunderstandings or innocent mistakes. However, I wanted to make sure that Steve Cobb, at the very least, hears about what happened to my mother and hopefully will remedy the problem for others moving forward. My only intention is to make sure that someone is aware, not to complain or vent. My mother is 76 years old and recently widowed. My father used to handle things like car repairs and now, for the first time in her life, she is responsible for doing so by herself and relies on people to be honest with her because she does not have the experience to recognize when she may be taken advantage of. She owns a brand new Kia Soul with very few miles on it. She rarely drives the car and, consequently, it developed a flat spot on one of the tires, causing it to drive a little bit bumpy. My understanding is that this would resolve on its own after driving the car for a bit and does not reflect a problem with the tires. On the advice of a nearby service station, she brought the car to Cobb to be evaluated. After waiting for quite a while, she was told that she needed to purchase four brand new tires for $800. Luckily, she mentioned this in a conversation with me and I consulted with someone at the Kia dealership and they told me that no, she did not need a new tire - let alone four - and questioned the intentions of someone who would tell her that she did. We were able to cancel the appointment before she left the car for repairs or paid out any money. Car repair shops and mechanics have a reputation - deserved or not - of taking advantage of the elderly and women in particular when it comes to recommending repairs, assuming they will not recognize when something is excessive or unnecessary. Unfortunately, Cobb seems to have engaged in this sort of deceptive and manipulative behavior in this instance. I can only assume that someone there saw an elderly woman by herself and wanted to make a sale so they tried to get her to pay $800 for four tires she did not need. I hope that someone there reads this and can take some steps to address the issue so that it does not happen to someone else. I see that Cobb generally has excellent reviews and this may be an anomaly but - unfortunately - it did occur to a very vulnerable person. Thank you.

Description of Work: Our last visit was just an oil change and a checkup, but we've used Cobb's for almost 15 years and NEVER had a bad (or even mediocre) experience.

Description of Work: I went for an oil change for three cars.

Description of Work: For my Jeep Wrangler, I had the following done - Oil change & replaced front pinion seal. I also asked them to take a look at a leaky valve cover gasket. A different mechanic had suggested that I replace the gasket, at a fairly substantial cost. However, Cobb just tightened down the bolts a little, and that seemed to fix the problem. So they saved me a lot of money with that. When replacing my front pinion seal, I asked them to examine the u-joints in my front drive-shaft, since it had to be removed to do this work. They said the joints were still fine - despite being 5+ years old. They could have easily said that they were ready to be replaced - which would have cost me at least $150. Very honest mechanic, and they're not looking to take advantage of their customers - and that's hard to come by! The cost for the work they do is not especially cheap - but it's competitive. And I'd give them extra credit on the "price" rating since they saved me so much money (as described above).

Description of Work: Cobb's Car Care fixed a tire for me. It wasn't actually the tire; it was the rim. They checked my brakes and topped off the fluids in my car.
