We needed them to refinish the floors in the dining room, living room and hall and install hardwood floors on the entire upstairs. We spent about $6,000. The price was comparable with others. The flooring was raw wood because I liked that look. I was going to have them come back and refinish it. They did most of the work, laying the hardwood and sanding it. That was fine. Then they sent a guy to do the bead around the flooring. This guy was a total disaster. He was sent to finish the job and it took us weeks. He was driven to work by his mother who is about 100 years old. He got out of the car, came into the house and put his equipment down and went upstairs. Ten minutes later he came down saying that he had to call his mother to come and get him. He was about 50 years old. He said he had hurt his back and had to have it looked at. He left and I called them and asked them why they had sent him. They would not send anybody else to do the job. He came back 5 hours later when we were having dinner. He said that he could not work as he had had an epidermal and proceeded to show me where he had got it. I told him to go back home and rest. He got back in the car and left. Eventually they banged up the job. They put a hole in one of my doors which they had to fix. They were just horrendous. We knew that we could not use the bedroom for some time. We thought it would take a week but it took 3 weeks. We had to sleep on the floor downstairs. I will never ever do business with them again. One has to be out of their minds to work with them.

They were awesome. We had the carpet in our family room removed. They matched the wood perfectly that we had here for 12 years. It didn?t look like it was an add-on and it looked original. They did a fabulous job and the wood flooring looks very nice. They are pricey, but the reality is that they get the right thing and you don?t have to worry about it. It was solid hardwood flooring and not veneer. They ripped up some of the existing boards and put new boards in so that it would look like it was part of the original floor. They sanded and stained it so that it looks like it is part of the original floor. They came out to get the work done and it was for a very big area. You cannot tell that they had done the work and it looks like it was there from the beginning. They were like God and the guy who did the work was superior to work with. The installer was just excellent. We called him back since we were concerned about one spot. So they came back immediately and dealt with it. I am very pleased with them. I love them and I would definitely use their services again.
Description of Work: We used the services of Clough Pike Flooring about a year and a half ago for hardwood flooring installation.

Frank was very responsive and knowledgeable. His company is called "Top Notch Flooring" now, not sure if Clough Pike Flooring still exists. I reached Frank through the contact info here. I contacted several companies to inquire about my unique need for my external job. A couple had no idea how to reseal my porch, one gave me an estimate but later admitted they had never done a job like this before. Frank explained in detail how he would do it, what type of material he would use (which matched other research and input I had gathered), and how he would recommend maintaining it after he was done. During the job, he and his co-worker were very polite, efficient, and resourceful in solving problems and getting things done in just a couple of days when originally he said it may take 3-4. The final result looks great - just a couple of sanding scuffs on the edges and some stray stain on the base of my porch railings or I would have given A's on quality. For price, they were significantly higher than the other estimate we got, but, again, the other company had never done a job like this before. In the end, I was most comfortable with Frank's knowledge and ability to explain the details, and his work showed he really knew what he was doing. I would definitely use Top Notch Flooring again, and I would recommend them with the caution of be aware of the possibility of minor sloppiness in the trim work (ours needed repainting already, so it didn't matter as much to us).

The initial meeting was good. This company had done refinishing work for us before and did a great job. This time it seemed to not go as well. The workers were not very professional and we seemed to be trying to get from one job to the next while squeezing our job in between. When it got to the finishing work on the floors this company sent a worker who was dropped off by their elderly mother, worked about 1 hour, then left do to a back injury. He said he needed to go to his doctor to get an epidural shot in his back! His elderly mother showed up again and took him to the doctor. We called the company to complain, but they sent no other workers. The worker who needed the shot showed back up at our house and proceeded to lift his shirt and partially drop his pants in order to show us his epidural shot bandage. The job was eventually finished, but we had other issues with doors being damaged and being out of sorts over this pro-longed ordeal.

Clough Pike has done flooring work for me in the past and I really appreciated their work then. Frank has a get it done attitude that makes him refreshing to work with. He's tackled jobs for me that other flooring contractors wouldn't even bid on. In the case of the floors in my rental unit, the original 100 year old oak plank was revealed and in decent shape after a flood claimed all the layers of floor laying on top of it. Frank's team did a great job in getting these floors livable. I've used Clough Pike before. I've recommended them to friends. I'd definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Clough Pike Flooring sanded and finished 3 kitchens, 2 hallways, 1 living room, 1 bedroom, and a 3 story tall staircase of 3" plank pine. I prepared the pine for finishing by removing all overlayments, nails, staples, etc. Clough Pike did all sanding and finishing and patched 2 areas that had failed using planks under cabinetry.

Frank did an excellent job. Ann was very helpful over the phone in helping us coordinate it all. We were living out of state during the job, so she was instrumental in helping us make sure the team could get in on the proper date to do the work. Frank clearly appreciates the quality of older homes and the value of restoring the wood.

These guys were great. They came out the day after we called and gave us an estimate; they started work the next day. Frank Jr. was the lead of the refinishing crew, and he was pleasant, friendly and professional. Our floors look phenomenal. I have only two complaints: the first is that they didn't sand the risers on our stairs, just the treads. We knew this going into the job, so it wasn't a surprise; I was just disappointed to learn that they don't do risers. (It turns out we'll paint them, though, so all is well.) The second complaint is that they left a little bit of trash behind -- a few cleaning rags, a water bottle, and the plastic taped up to protect the entrance to our kitchen. All in all, though, the disappointments carry little weight, b/c the rest of their work was great. Frank even gave us good advice for maintaining the floors over the years at low cost and with little effort.
Description of Work: They sanded and refinished the LR & DR on our main floor, our stairs to the 2nd floor, and the landing, three BRs, and all closets on the 3rd floor. They applied 3 coats of polyurethane to the floors, and consulted with us throughout about whether we wanted any of the older and more damaged wood replaced.
