Contractor arrive on time for appointment and provided a quote on the spot after having taken measurements. Price included removal of existing windows/metal frames and installation of 3 new glass block window kits. A downpayment (approximately 1/3 of the total job) was required to get windows on order. About 7 days later a crew of 2 men arrived a few minutes early and started the work. The entire job last about two and a half hours. Once the work was complee, I inspected it completely and was satisfied with the result at that time. Windows were set plum and level by the crew. All work was completed as I specified early on in the process. The crew was hard working, professional and courteous at all times. Clean up by the crew was good. It is now about 3 weeks later and the portland cement and windows have cured, set and perform well. Its made a noticeable improvement with the humidity levels in our basement.

Installers arrived on time and were quick to begin. They worked nonstop and were completed early afternoon. They spent time explaining how they worked and if there was anything special I should know about he system. They cut any limbs that were in the way and left the yard pretty clean. They didn't take the limbs because they didn't have room for them. That was ok with me because it was a small amount the the trash could handle.

They were unprofessional and did not follow up when they said they were going to. I had to challenge their payments on my credit card because they did not follow up. They misled me about how they were going to put the window in; I was really unhappy with them. They did a very sloppy job and I would never recommend them. I wanted them to come back out and put my window in the way I wanted it but they will not come back out.

The sales person came out to our home and we talked over what we wanted for windows to match the one window we already had in glass block. Options were given on how many glass blocks to get for each window, this was helpful because we knew nothing about glass block. The salesman was courteous and efficient with our time and money. The installer came out in the morning promptly and efficiently installed our windows. I couldn't believe he was done with all four windows after 3-4 hours of installing. No messes were left and concrete around the windows was cleaned up and tidied. This glass block company was fabulous!
Description of Work: Cincinnati Glass Block men replaced four of our basement windows. The Glass Block windows were done in a professional manner. We received a couple of vents in two of the windows, one for the dryer and the other for air. Everyone communicated with one another. The installation was fast and professional.

The company said they would be out between 1 & 3 PM. After several calls, they showed up at 7:45PM. They worked until a little after 9:00. We have a 2 year old and took her to Grandma's until well after her bedtime. They did not complete the outside flashing, so they said they would be back then next day. They never showed. After several more calls, they said they would be out on Satruday (10/8), but again, never showed. After more calls they said they would be out on Thursday (10/13). The outside of our house is exposed and there is a forecast of rain. They said Thurdays was the best they could do.

This was one of the worst experiences ever with any service company of any kind. We had the work done on a Saturday so I would not have to take off work. The men who performed the work were very nice and it took 2-3 hours from start to finish. After they finished, I went around to inspect the work. They left used grinding discs, pieces of metal, and cigarette butts around and in our landscaping. The next day, I notice cracks in the cement work on 5 of the 6 windows as well as concave dips in the cement surrounding the windows. I work with cement, so I understand that sometimes this happens, but on 5 of the 6 windows? Then there is the dryer vent. I started the dryer the next day and it started making an unusual noise after a minute. I stopped it and went outside and had my wife start the dryer. The dryer vent vanes would not open. I pulled them open and they would not shut. The laundry had to be done so I would go outside to open and close the vents depending on whether I was using the dryer or not. Then I noticed a cold draft while standing near the dryer vent. I inspected it to discover that the workers did not silicone seal all the way around the dryer duct. I called on Monday with all the concerns and made an appointment for Wednesday. They called Tuesday afternoon and cancelled because there was rain in the forecast. Wednesday came and from 7:30 am it was sunny and 55*. I called to reschedule and could not get scheduled until the Tuesday after Thanksgiving @ 2:30. Being that the temps were getting into the 30's, I went out on that sunny Wednesday, took off the vanes on the cheap dryer vent, replaced it with a quality one with a critter guard and stainless steel hardware, and used a silicone sealant to finish the job they didn't. The Tuesday appointment came and I waited until about 3:45 for them to show before I called the company. The woman I talked to said that they came around 1:30 and saw nothing wrong except that there appeared to be the wrong type of vent that they might have got by mistake from their distributor. I explained that most of the cracks were on the inside and that if they came at 2:30 I could have let them in. She said that they do not make appointments for specific times, just AM or PM. I told her that I made the appointment with her, and 2:30 was suggested by her so I would not have to take off work! She insisted I was wrong. I then told her that the vent was something that I had put on to replace the faulty one since I could not do laundry without going out to open the vent. She then started yelling at me! She said "You just voided your warranty! You can't modify our product!" After going back and forth about how I did this only after they cancelled appointments and freezing weather was on its way. I finally said fine, I voided my warranty on that window, but the cement work had to be fixed along with another air leak from one of the other windows. Another appointment was made and then the company cancelled because of cold weather. At this point, we are into December and they have stopped work for the remainder of the year. I was told to call in mid January to see when I could get scheduled. Finally in March, the workers came out the fix the cement work. I had to go around with them to show them the cracks (twice) and the concave valleys that they didn't seem to notice in November. The leaky window vent was going to be replaced with a new one, but the company sent the workers up from Cincinnati with the wrong size. Since it was Saturday, the supply shop wasn't open, so they could not replace it. They gave me the impression that they would call and make an appointment ASAP. No call though. At this point, I fixed the leaky window with a higher quality weather seal myself. I also forgot to mention that I requested to speak to a supervisor a number of times. He was always out of the office and never returned my calls. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but the resolution they offered was $150 towards a future service. I replaced all of my basement windows already! Where would I want a glass block window on my main floor? Assuming I was idiotic enough to give Dayton Glass Block any more of my business. I talked to a co-worker about this, and she said that she had a similar experience with this company a couple years ago. This experience motivated me to join Angie's List, since BBB ratings seem to be pointless. Dayton Glass Block still has an "A"
Description of Work: We had 6 windows replaced in our basement with glass block windows. 5 windows have a vent and one has a dryer vent in it. We chose to have the metal frame grounded out since a coupe were rusty which was additional cost.

Overall Cincinnati Glass Block did an excellent job. Their quote was the lowest I received from the Cincy "big three" block companies. The windows were installed on time and on budget, and look very good. The installer was particularly helpful and courteous; he even patched a bit of the concrete in the window wells that had deteriorated over time, a nice bonus. My only caveats are: they only use silicone in the joints, not mortar (although I'm not sure that makes a difference); and I was unaware that they had planned to use blocks of varying sizes, as opposed to a single uniform block size, when designing the windows. They look fine, but I was a bit surprised when the windows were unloaded. If this is important to you, I would confirm the window design before signing any agreement.

The experience was not as good as we had hoped. They did a sloppy job and on one occasion they left in a wooden piece that was supposed to push the glass in place then be removed so they had to come back to take that out. Also, the concrete filling around the windows was not as clean as it should have been. I am not sure if I would use them again.

The estimator told me the company would not be able to do the work on my basement windows because they build their windows before coming to the job and one of my windows would have to be custom built - he made no suggestions on how to move forward. I had notified the office when making the appointment that one of the windows had three vents (furnace, hot water heater and sump pump), he was unaware of this. He didn't go into the basement, said he was too old to get down the ladder.

The estimator was very professional. He explained the different kinds of glass blocks, showed examples and measured the windows, then gave an estimate and date for job. The workers came on the date promised and completed the job within 4 hours. But they left a piece of wood in one of the window's grout and chipped several pieces of stucco from the window frame area. Unfortunately, when the workers finished they left quickly and we didn't check the work until after they were gone. When we found the wooden stick stuck in the frame, we called the company and they sent the worker back about an hour later. He came and fixed the problem and left so quickly we didn't see him until the truck was on the way out, so we couldn't ask about the stucco chips. Since it is the basement area, it is not obvious to all, so we will wait until we paint the outside of the house again. But we were not very happy with the work.

Estimate was given on day and time scheduled. I was not home for estimate, but it was very clear and when I called (my windows were an unusual size), Bill explained clearly what needed to be done and cost. Service was scheduled and installer showed on day and time scheduled. Did a very professional job, worked quietly and efficiently. Cleaned up after job. Very professional. Even crawled under enclosed deck (2-3 feet high) to seal 2 of the windows from outside, although not mandatory given how they are installed. Also removed security bars on windows and patched the remaining holes in foundation with mortar. I had the windows with mortar seams (instead of silicone) installed. I specifically asked to keep the windows that were replaced to donate to local charity and they were removed without damage so I could pass on. Excellent job!!

I love the end result! I have already referred them to my neighbor. I replaced windows in the master bath and dressing room to allow for privacy while allowing in light. Also, when the windows were opened and there was a breeze, the clanking blinds drove me crazy, but I liked getting fresh air in the room. Having the option of having a small window installed was a big part of my decision. I looked at leaded glass, etc., but didn't like not being able to open the window.
Description of Work: A rep came to my house and measured the windows I wanted to replace. He gave me an estimate and took the deposit. Because it was after noon on a Saturday, I had to wait until the following week to schedule the installation. The installers came at the appointed time and did a great job very quickly. The only downside is that it takes a long time to get a weekend appointment, so plan ahead.
