Description of Work: They repaired my bricks on the chimney and put a new cover on it. Several months later, the cover came off after high winds. I called back to inform the company and they had someone come out within a week to install the cover again. They also gave me an estimate on other work which looked minor to me but that estimate was over 3,000 and I decided I would wait and get other estimates for that job.

 + 0 moreBernie determined what would be required to do this somewhat complicated work and had his team proceed. His employees were friendly and industrious and interested in what they were doing. They removed the stone, and Bernie rebuilt the firebox and did all necessary masonry work. Bernie worked well with our general contractor who supplied the designer's drawings for Bernie to follow.
Description of Work: We wanted to change the appearance of our fireplace from stone facing above a wood mantle to all granite. We wanted to install a large LCD TV into (not on top of the granite) the fireplace at a realistic watching height which required that the elevated firebox be removed and reinstalled at floor level with all the necessary chimney rebuilding and masonry work completed so the fireplace would be safe, draw correctly and be attractive. We asked Mr. Klaene to work with our general contractor who was overseeing this project and give us a proposal on what would be involved in facilitating our request. He knew what would be involved and how to do this difficult work correctly.

 + -1 moreThe work went very well. We received an estimate last fall, and they honored it six months later when we decided to do the work. They fit us into their summer schedule within one month, and had completed the work within two days after starting. The work was done four stories above ground level, and they used scaffolding for access. The work was very high quality, and they repaired a few areas that were outside the area they had bid on.
Description of Work: Repaired chimney from roofline up, replacing several bricks that had fallen out or were loose, and repointing other areas that were in poor shape. Reset chimney cap.

 + -1 moreIt was not the lowest bid that I received for the job, but Mr. Klaene was the only one to describe in detail what needed to be done, and also what was sound masonry and didn't require any work.
Description of Work: Repaired a retaining wall (about 6 ft high x 40 feet long) by resetting the top two courses of stones and rebuilding both ends of the wall. Also rebuilt a stone entryway step to the front door.

 + -1 moreMr. Klaene was prompt; however, his estimate to work on a small portion of our home was over twice as much as others we received. He proposed to do work for $2800; the company we chose proposed $1500 to tuck point the entire house. I was also put off by his cursory examination of another area of our house, which he declared needed to be torn down and re-bricked. This experience demonstrated how important it is to get multiple estimates.

 + -1 moreBernie was on time for the estimate and took his time appraising the work I was asking for. I thought he was professional, personable, and did not try to sell me something I did not want. Had I been able to afford him, I would have liked to use his services. However, his quote was more than 4 times as that of other quotes I received. I had to follow up with him to get the estimate amount which did not impress me. His friendliness subsided a bit when I told him how much more his quote was compared to the other companies. I would have liked to go with his company had his price been more reasonable for the job I had.

THEY ALWAYS ASKED QUESTIONS IF THEY WERE UNSURE WHETHER AN AREA WAS TO BE DONE AND EXPERTLY MATCHED THE COLOR OF THE CEMENT USED TO TUCKPOINT TO THE PREEXISTING CEMENT BETWEEN THE BRICKS SO IT CANNOT BE DISTINGUISHED FROM THE STREET AS NEW. HE IS BUSY, SO IT TOOK A WHILE FOR THEM TO COME, BUT WHEN THEY DID, THEY REMAINED UNTIL THE JOB WAS COMPLETELY FINISHED. HE HAD ERECTED A STONE RETAINING WALL FOR US ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO WHICH IS STILL IN GREAT CONDITION.

 + -1 moreGREAT JOB! THIS IS AN A+ COMPANY. THE CREW (PAUL, JEREMY AND STEVE) ARRIVED IN THE MORNING, WERE VERY RESPECTFUL, AND WORKED DILIGENTLY TO COMPLETE THE JOB WITHIN A FEW HOURS. THE REPAIR AREAS LOOKED AS GOOD AS NEW WHEN THEY WERE FINISHED. FIXING THE CRACKS WAS A MESSY PROCESS, WITH DUST FLYING EVERYWHERE, BUT WHEN THEY WERE ALL COMPLETED, THE MEN WASHED DOWN EVERYTHING ON THE BACK PATIO AND CLEANED UP NICELY. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THEIR WORK AND WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN.

SAID HE WOULD COME ON 1ST RAINY DAY. 2 RAINY DAYS NO SHOW. PROMISED HE WOULD BE HERE AT 8:30 AM TODAY. HTG/AC SHOWED TO RE-DO PIPE AFTER MASONRY WORK WAS FINISHED. MASON SHOWED UP 45 MINUTES LATE. IN MEANTIME HTG/AC TECH SAID HE COULD DO THE WORK FOR $50.00 AND HAVE DONE BEFORE THE MASON SHOWED AND HE DID. WHEN REP FROM BA KLAENE FINALLY SHOWED I TOLD HIM THAT HE WAS JUST TOO LATE.
