We've had some water problems in the basement the entire time we've owned the home. No major flooding, but we did have a couple spots where extensive rain would make the carpet damp. With all the rain we had in the Spring this year the city of Kettering's storm sewers backed up into our finished basement. This required the city to come in and take care of their sewer issues. But we also knew we wanted to re finish the basement and we would need to take care of the other "minor" water problem. We had been a bit gun shy about looking into basement waterproofing since back in 2008 we had Ever Dry come out for a free estimate and they gave us a minor heart attack by telling us it would cost about $17,000 to get it dry. I decided to look up a couple companies on Angie's List and we had them come out. Aquaproof was the second to come out and Aimon was great and spent a lot of time answering our questions and describing the different options for getting it dry. Aquaproof was a little more than the other company we had out, but we felt that what they were offering to do was a better overall package and would meet what our expectations for a dry basement. They also worked with us on the pricing and tried to get as close to our budget as they could. With all the rain this Spring it took forever to get on the schedule, which was understandable with the rainy season we'd had. Our work began in the beginning of August. I think we signed the contract at the end of May or early June. We called periodically to get updates on the schedule and Aimon was also very responsive in trying to help me out. Once the guys started the did a good job of completing the job in two days. Initially Danny told me they were going to complete the job in a day, but it did end up being two. They guys worked hard and really communicated with us on any potential concerns, etc. they came across. When they left the job on the second day the basement was as clean as when they had arrived. About a week after they left our contractor came in and informed us that the area that was to be our bathroom wasn't going to work since they the waterproofers had to slope the concrete quite a bit. They had communicated with us that a footer sat high and that we'd have a larger slope in that area, but it wasn't made clear to us the problem this would cause for a contractor wanting to install a bathroom. When I called Aquaproof about this they worked with me and came back out to make it work for us. The fact that they worked with us and came right back out to make sure we were happy speaks volumes about this company. I would recommend Aquaproof to anyone looking to waterproof their basement. Their pricing was competitive, worked for our budget, and everyone we dealt with were nice and responsive. We haven't had much rain since it's been waterproofed but with the little rain we have had we seem to be staying dry. We haven't even heard the sump kick on yet.

First let me be clear that the only reason I gave this company a B is due to my experience in customer service. The work was great. I almost ditched this company right off the bat after my inital conversation with Danny left me insulted. He was extremely reluctant to even send a sales rep out to give me a quote because the work was to be done on a rental property. He stated that landlords were cheap and it usually wasn't worth his time to deal with them. I went ahead and pushed for an estimate because of the glowing reviews on Angie's List. Ultimately it was my sales rep Chuck that saved the deal. After paying my deposit (in MAY!) it was like pulling teeth to any information on my job. I didn't have a start date, the lady answering the phone had no information, I always had to wait on a call back from Danny. I always had to call back at least once if not twice to get a response from him. The lack of communication from this company was the most frustrating part of the project. In all fairness, this was after a very rainy spring and I'm sure they were swamped with work. I think that if it had been a different time of year, I probably would have recieved better customer service. After my job finally got started at the end of July, things went quickly and smoothly. The work crew was wonderful. Very nice, polite, and cleaned up after themselves. Since they had to break up the basement floor I was totally prepared to be cleaning up dust for weeks. To my surprise there wasn't a speck of concrete dust anywhere! They were great with my neighboor, and took care not to inconvience her. They had to remove her fence along the driveway, but put it back and it actually looked better than it did to start with. Once they were done, they threw grass seed and straw, which is filling in nicely. We've had significant rain since project completion and a basement that used to flood if I sneezed has been perfectly dry :)

Lousey. I would never do business with this company.
Description of Work: The company did not show up for our estimate appointment. My husband had taken off work to be home so we were pretty upset. When I called them, they did not seem concerned about their mistake. After a number of days, they called back and wanted to re-schedule. We decided to go ahead since we had found excellent reviews of their work on Angie's list. The gentleman giving the estimate was not likable. No personality. His assessment of our basement problem was way out of line with what we perceive the problem to be as well as what three other basement companies have diagnosed. The estimate was twice as much as three other companies, two of which I found recommended on Angie's list. So in short, Aquaproof over-diagnosed our problem and the resulting costs were shocking. I don't think they really wanted our business.

Response from AquaProof Inc
In the member's letter she indicated that we missed an appointment. We have no record of this appointment nor did her husband bring this to my representative's attention when he was out to give the estimate. The member was not present during the appointment. My representative is shocked about the member's statement that he has no personality and was not likable because he got along great with the member's husband. Maybe if the member would have been present for the appointment she would have known that. My company policy is that when we go out to evaluate a customer's problem we do not make things up or inflate or minimize the problem. We give the customer an honest evaluation and our recommendation on how to fix their unique problem. I would be willing to bet that the two companies the member had estimates from do not do any type of work on the outside of the home. They more than likely gave her an estimate for work strictly done on the inside. Obviously we are going to be more expensive than the other companies who gave estimates on the inside work. We are very seldom the most expensive or the cheapest. It is our honest opinion that the roof water and grading issues should be addressed on the member's property. We feel that keeping the water away from the foundation is the best policy. If the member thinks that by my company giving her honest evaluation to fixing her problem is lousy, then she's not the kind of customer that we want. My record with Angie's List speaks for itself. I have more reports and by far more A's than any of my competitors. Unfortunately we can't please everyone. Keep in mind I did not even do work for this person. If anyone reading this has any further questions please feel free to call me on my cell phone at 513-608-9041. Sincerely, Danny Manley President

When Danny Manly first came to my house for the quote I told him about a previous quote and how they told me of all this damage there was to the foundation. This was true, it was crumbling in several spots and there were several cracks When I requested a quote I asked for foundation repair and was some how roped into waterproofing the basement. I never received any foundation repairs. When I questioned this Danny Manley he told me don't worry that will last another 20 years or so. I met him at the house at least twice and was subjected to waiting while he finished his cell phone calls. After he hung up from one of the calls he actually told me he was talking to his lawyer about a workman's comp case and this guy was claiming all this pain and he was on 700 pills a month. He stated he just wanted to keep getting the drugs, no one could take 700 pills a month. How unprofessional. At another point during the quote he offered to pay for me to join Angie's list for a year if I put in a bad review on the company from a previous quote. I can assume that this is a normal thing for one company to pay for you to condemn another so as to keep them from getting the business. I am just overall unhappy with this job and there really isn't anyway to make it right. Danny knows the president at the company I worked for so I expected a completed job. I have a drainage pipe on the back side of my house that was covered up by piling a lot of dirt on it. Unfortunately the rain continues to wash it off. They did come out and cover with more dirt but it then just drains in front of the gate and I can't open that. He now suggest a new pipe from the house to the alley where all trash cans set. After being trampled on and rolled over that will in time present another problem. I am washing my hands of the company and I hope you leave this entire review for all to read. Just because his company may do a great job on one location does not mean it will happen every time.

Response from AquaProof Inc
Since I have done Mrs. Member's job her basement has not leaked at all. During the inspection of her foundation it was obvious that her foundation was painted with water proof paint which holds the water in the foundation and causes the foundation to crumble. Mrs. Member pointed out the water seepage that was obvious in the basement. The foundation is approximately 80 to 90 years old. At this point I gave her options in detail on how to fix the basement. We decided to install an inside drainage system on three walls which included pipe and gravel under the floor with a sump pump. The walls were covered with plastic and styrene panels which allow the water to come through the wall and be channeled to the sump pump. We also dug out the left side of the foundation to the footer and repaired the foundation. We built up the grade and installed pipe and gravel. We ran the pump discharge line and front left downspout to the storm sewer. The back left downspout could not be ran to the storm sewer because the grade was too low. Mrs. Member was given the option to dig out all four walls & repair the structure which would stop the water from coming through the walls. Mrs. Member could not get financing for what the job cost. In Mrs. Member's letter she stated that she was roped into waterproofing her basement. I do not know what that means. I did not write a contract when I was there for the evaluation; she called me back about a week later and wanted me to come back out to write a contract for the work we discussed. When I went out to write the contract I got a phone call from my attorney. I told Mrs. Member I would step outside to take the call and she said that was not necessary. The lesson I learned is to always walk outside to take a personal phone call even though a homeowner says it’s not necessary. In Mrs. Member's letter she stated that we had to pile up a lot of dirt. We did pile the dirt up to make it a positive grade. She also stated the rain continues to wash it away. If Mrs. Member would fix her gutters from falling off her house and clean them out every now and then this would not occur. She also stated that I offered her money to write a negative report on another company. Mrs. Member is a liar. In my opinion the main reason why Mrs. Member wrote this letter is because I had a meeting with her about a month ago. At that time she pointed out a gutter that was dented 8 feet above the ground and accused my workers of denting it and she wanted it replaced. Note that this was two years after we completed her work and she has never brought this to my attention until now. My record with Angie’s List speaks for its self. My company will strive to always put the customer’s best interest first. Unfortunately in today’s society and with the amount of business that we do through Angie’s List we run into customers like Mrs. Member who want something for nothing and when they don’t get it they make up lies. Please base my company’s reputation as a whole not on one report. Sincerely, Danny Manley President

We had only been in our house for 10 months when we had heavy rain and saw that our basement wall had bowed & shifted with an overhang approaching industry standards requiring excavation. We have a finished basement with only half of one wall in our laundry room where the block foundation is exposed. After a month of heavy rains, I noticed that there was a crack running along the mortar joint at the bottom of our wall and it was starting to shear (hang over the bottom cinder block- measured 1.5? in spots). I'll admit that I was frustrated to see a large issue like this after being in our house for less than a year especially considering we had a structural engineer evaluate the foundation prior to purchase. I worried about what company to call and heard how companies were just going to "sell" us on the best way to fix our issue. I heard from someone at my job that had work done by Aquaproof and recommended them. They spoke highly of Danny, the owner so I decided to give him a call. At this point I had talked to multiple companies and due to the amount of rain Cincinnati was getting, all the companies were pushed back almost a month just for an estimate! I called Danny and was instantly impressed with his knowledge and confidence to fix the issue simply based off of the description I gave him. He told me that he would have one of his guys come out to take a look at the issue and Gil came out within a week. We signed the contract that day. It was obvious right away that Danny and Gil both knew what they were talking about (note: there was one company we had visit prior to Aquaproof and got a ?salesman? response vs. a ?let?s fix it? response). Gil told me that he would send someone out to take a sample and get measurements. He told me they had a lot of jobs backed up, but that he would try to get to us as soon as possible because he understood the urgency. Two days after Gil left, the wall shifted noticeably cracking up one corner of the drywall. This obviously had me very concerned so I called Gil to let him know. This was on Friday. To my very pleasant surprise, the following Monday a crew of 8 guys showed up to start work on the job!!! Upon preparing the walls for work, the men discovered the root cause to our problem. The drainage system previously installed was incorrect and they recommended we fix it. Gil and Ray (the foreman) showed us what was wrong and described the technical function of the drainage system. The technical rigor presented by the company was very impressive. We are both engineers and have TONS of detailed questions ? seriously, they answered everything! And let me tell you, am I glad we had them fix it. They found that in the previous system no holes had been drilled for the drainage system to allow water in, the system was 18 inches from the foundation inboard the drywall (which rotted our finished basement wood and caused mold to grow) and in one spot it was made of HALF of a pipe in one portion (i.e. faked the installation)!!! Our sump pump turned on automatically once every hour or two with the old system. After they put the new system in, it fired off every 15-20 minutes while all the water that was caught behind the walls drained out!! It amazed me how much water was trapped ? it was like a waterfall when they drilled the holes! The crew was fantastic and worked harder than I could have asked for. They rarely took breaks and worked at an unbelievably fast pace. They finished the whole job in less than two days and turned what I thought was going to be a nightmare into a fantastic experience and investment for the future. They really cared about protecting the items in our home as well. Being a musician, they approached me right away about how to care for my valuables and breakables before they started. They did a great job of protecting everything that was in our basement. Plus they cleaned up after themselves; you wouldn't believe the amount of garbage they hauled away from our house! They encouraged us to ask questions and explained everything they were doing with great detail. I never thought I could be so satisfied and I HIGHLY recommend Aquaproof to anyone needing waterproofing or foundation work done in their basement. To Danny, Gil, Ray and the rest of the crew - I can't thank you all enough for the job that you did and for treating our home like it was your own ( as promised by the foreman of the job - Ray). I had peace of mind from the moment you arrived and that is something I didn't think I'd have when we learned our walls had shifted. Thanks again Aquaproof and best of luck in the future!! You deserve it.
Description of Work: We had two block foundation walls that were bowing inward and had around an inch and a half of shear at the bottom mortar joint of one of those foundation walls. We had to have I-Beams installed on two walls. We also had a drainage system installed around three quarters of the interior of the basement.

The work started a little late do to rain as they needed to finish up another job. A large crew showed up to my home and there was a big truck in our drive way. The men excavated the dirt for the drains which took awhile. The side yard drains were supposed to connect to the sewer in the street, but they were not able to connect under the sidewalk. They had to reroute the drains through our back yard to a storm drain at the edge of our property. The work took awhile. It was worth it. now when it rains the water is carried away and no longer sits on the ground and driveway. There is a big difference in the part of the back yard that has the drain and the part that doesn't. The only problem we had was that the straw they laid down over the disturbed ground never grew any grass.
Description of Work: We had drainage issues in our driveway , side and back yard. We weren't sure who to call and contacted several landscapers who all said the job was too much for them. We had done some research and knew we would probably need french drains, or our whole yard, about an acre, regraded. We contacted Aquaproof and they came out and said it would be no problem to fix our yard. the original estimate came to $8,000.00 so we cut back the work we needed them to do. In the end, we had Aquaproof install french drains in our side yard and part of the back yard. they also fixed a broken drainage pipe in our front yard.

Contacted AquaProof on a Monday, and scheduled meeting for the following Friday. Danny Manley (Owner and President) came to our home and provided us with a comprehensive analysis of our basement. To make a long story short, we were seeing water along the wall and floor joints in our finished basement. Danny came out after standard business hours, and determined that our issue was in fact the sump pump, and stated that it was to our best interest to replace the old one, and enlarge the well that it was stored in. We also decided to go ahead with the installation of a battery backup. Our total quote and final price was $1,700. The very next day (Saturday) Danny and two of his workers came out to begin the work. They were in by 8:30, and out by 11:30. They were very knowledgeable, and did high quality work, while maintaining a clean work space. I would also like to add that we had received a quote about 1 week earlier from another company. They had suggested that we install their "patented" waterproofing system at a quote of $8,400. This would require us to have the "patented" system installed along the entire perimeter of our basement, that would also require that the drywall and carpets would need to be pulled. (Note that the demolition was include, but the actual drywall repair was not included in the price) So, we were looking at a $10,000-11,000 total repair. Had my wife not actually taken the time to research other companies (i.e Aquaproof) I would most likely be about $10,000 lighter in my wallet. Thank You Danny and Thank your crew for a job well done, and thank you for some piece of mind at an extremely reasonable price. Update: On 04/18/2011 and 04/19/2011, we experienced some of the worst weather that I have seen in some time. Rained all day and all night on both days. I can confidently say that the work that was performed by AquaProof has been incredible. Due to leaks prior to the fix, when it rained, I would check the basement numerous times, often at the wee hours of the morning. During the unusually heavy rainfall over the past few days, I still felt the need to check our basement for water. Everytime that I went downstairs, I saw not one bit of water on our basement floor. I was amazed. This just confirms that AquaProof knows what they are doing, and are not going to rip off a customer to get additonal cash. H***, Danny, (the owner) made a point to stop out to our home last week just to see how things were going. You are not going to find that type of customer service anywhere else. I have already talked with two folks from work raving about their service. I would strongly suggest AquaProof for any basement need. Thanks again!!!

The entire job took about 7.5 hours with about 10 people on the job. This included jack-hammering basement foundation, carrying out concrete, properly trenching below the footer, installation of perforated piping, protective sheathing, plastic, gravel, and concrete. They inspected the entire basement wall for cracks and placed plastic and heavy-duty plastic walling in areas where cracks were so any water would drain down into the trench. Both downspouts were connected to the piping from the sump pump and ran underground to the back yard. It was a very efficient operation, and was impressed with their work. They cleaned up after they were finished, and even reseeded the yard where they dug up. I had two small problems with needing additional cement nails put in the plastic sheeting where there was a large gap, and a door frame that was improperly cemented in place. A technician promptly came and corrected both problems. All of the positive reports are true. Gil and Danny were fantastic and answered all the questions I had. I heartily recommend them to anyone who needs waterproofing. They will tell you the straight story on what you need and don't need.

We had to wait what seemed like forever for it to rain enough to know if this worked! However it appears to have worked beautifully. The one thing I would recommend is to insist that Danny (the owner) do your evaluation. He's extremely knowledgable and recommended a different approach to solving the problem than did the first person from the company who came out, and I think it made a lot more sense. (Time will tell!) In the end I believe I ended up getting a lot more bang for my buck than if I had gone with the first guy's recommendation. UPDATE, April 2012: Another year (and a lot of rain) has gone by and my basement has remained perfectly dry. I highly recommend Aquaproof and I am convinced that the recommendations made by the owner of the business, to replace the gutters with larger ones and dig the trenches to take the water away from the house, were just as important to the success of the job as were the new drains under the floor and the repairs to the foundation walls. I had my "new" basement finished and it is a complete transformation of what was a damp, unpleasant place where I went only to to do laundry, to a warm, dry new family room I didn't say enough in my original review about how much Aquaproof does to limit inconvenience to the homeowner. They "swarmed" my house with a very large crew, who worked fast and efficiently both inside and outside and were unfailingly courteous, cheerful and approachable They accomplished an enormous amount of work in one day. Believe all the good reviews you see about this company. They know what they are doing!
Description of Work: Drain placed around entire internal perimeter of basement. Several foundation cracks excavated and patched on the outside and inside. New sump pump. Window wells. New gutters and additional downspouts. Trenches in yard to take downspout and sump pump water away from house.

Everything was done very well and professionally. They came back and reseeded some spots on the lawn several months later when I requested, very responsive. They also reimbursed me for some repairs needed to the sprinkler system where digging had damaged underground wiring, this was unavoidable and in general, they were very careful. Communication was good and everything was taken care of. Water problems solved.
Description of Work: Drainage pipes, drains and down spouts were installed, replaced around the home and run to street.

Overall great experience. They came and called when they were scheduled, all workmen were polite and knowledgeable, they left a clean space when it was over, all for what was a very competitive price. I'm glad I trusted Angie's List recommendations, because I had a horrible experience with EverDry. Their hard sell scare tactics are ridiculous, and they're the next report I'll be writing..
Description of Work: Interior basement wall shored up with steel beams, drain channel dug around interior walls, sump pump and battery backup installed.

Gil came out and gave us a quote. He was very professional and honest. We scheduled the work and they came out and did it as scheduled and cleaned up after nicely. They forgot to fill a crack - we called and said we would do it ourselves, they insisted on coming out and doing it, which they did. We were happy with the work, and no water in the basement for 2 years until November 26, 2010. Gil said he would warranty the work. Now I will contact them and see if they live up to their word. And yes, it seems like they do, you can see Gil's message below. I just called him and he'll have someone out to take a look soon. Thanks, Gil! Update on 3/17/2010: It's been my fault that I have not called to have them come out to look - we had all that snow and then I was out of the country for a period, but a friendly gentleman came out today and took a look at the problem. They will be out on Monday (today is Thursday) to redo the work. I'm actually quite stunned that they are willing to do this and told the gentleman, Danny, how surprised I was. His response was, "That's the type of company we are are." Absolutely amazing.

To say i was shocked to see a possible service call on angieslist would be an understatement due to the fact that I see a report here before recieving a phone call at either my office or cell phone? However since seeing your report i have tried to call you this morning to address the possibilty of honoring my warranty which i will do if there is a problem in the area serviced but the number on your contract and on msn white pages has been disconnected or changed. Thanks Gil Brummett 513 237 5327...PS If there is ever a question of us honoring our warranty please contact us ......We would be glad to do so but if you don't call us we don't know you have a concern....

I think that they done a great job. Gil and Danny answered all of my questions. The man that installed the sump pump showed me every step that was involved. When they was finished they cleaned up the mess that they made. If I ever have foundation problems again they will be the company to fix it for me.Thanks Aquaproof.

Work was done quickly and cleaned up well. Grass seed was put down with straw on top. With some watering, the grass has grown well. All was done in less than a day.
Description of Work: Drainpipe in backyard was extended and moved through front yard to street. Object was to prevent flooding into sliding glass door on ground level. This only happened in extremely heavy rains, so it has yet to be tested. Service was prompt, professional and as promised. Would use the again.
