The technician came out to clean my air ducts (after some home remodeling), and told me that my air conditioner needed repair. They very quickly sent another technician (actually salesman), who took a 2 second look at my air conditioner and told me I needed a completely new unit - for $6000! I had a different company come out the next day. They unplugged the drain line and the unit is still working - nearly a year later. The other company charged me $89. I would NEVER trust Apollo.
Description of Work: None. Intended to have them clean my furnace ducts and repair my air conditioner.

(member name removed), I’d like to thank you for the chance to serve you for your heating and cooling needs as well as the feedback on this situation. Without that feedback we would never know the full experience and service our customers are receiving. Even issues that happen almost a year ago are opportunities for us the improve and deliver a better level of service. Given that this was almost a year ago, some details might have gotten lost on our end. That said, what I have noted and what the technician that did the duct cleaning remembered from it was more involved than just a plugged drain. On arrival the system was completely frozen up. This could be for a number of reasons, ranging from low air flow to a leak in the refrigerant system. This could not be diagnosed until the system had thawed completely. Considering the age of the system, our technician had a conversation with you explaining these ranges and considering the age of the equipment you had requested we inspect what we could of the system to see if it even made sense to consider a repair. There were some electrical components that showed signs of wear and some that were measuring well outside of their acceptable tolerance. To be clear, the system will run, even for quite some time, with these measurements. That doesn’t mean it’s good for the system or efficient, but it will run. These are also indicators that bigger problems are on the horizon as these electrical components affect other components like motors and compressors, which are far more expensive than these smaller electrical components. It was at that point that our technician remembers the question of the cost of replacing the system coming up. We sent one of comfort advisors, who was a technician for many years. The confusion seems to be that the technician felt you wanted information on replacement before making the decision on whether to pursue a possibly expensive repair on an older system or replacing it with something new and more efficient that has a warranty. Our technician should have absolutely made sure that he understood exactly what was being requested. I apologize that he didn’t do that. I do show that you had originally agreed to purchasing a new higher efficiency air conditioner along with a host indoor air quality products, although that price was only $4000, perhaps there were other options discussed that aren’t noted in the system. I am sorry that those weren’t well documented. It was later in the day or the next day that the job was cancelled for an unknown reason. I have no way of knowing what exactly the other company did for $89, although I suspect the water that was leaking was a result of the water leaking from the system thawing out and not actually a plugged drain line. The drain line may have been plugged but the more likely cause was either poor airflow or some intermittent problem with the indoor motor, possible from one of the weak electrical components. In either case, I can assume that your system has been running fine every since, and there’s a good chance it will continue to do so. Like all mechanical systems, we can only measure so much and give our best judgment based on those readings. We make every attempt and require our technicians to be extremely clear on the things we KNOW are failed versus the things we have know are LIKELY to fail. From there we only want to make sure you have all the information to make the decision that is right for you. Again, I sincerely apologize for how this situation ended up and hope that you can get as much life out of the current system as you need. We know we’re not perfect, everyone will make mistakes, but I promise you that we take learning from these events very seriously. Lastly, I would encourage you to plan for a replacement as all evidence suggests that it will be beneficial. And if you that times comes and you choose to give Apollo another chance I can assure you that would not experience these same concerns. Jamie Gerdsen President Apollo Home

The Apollo technician came at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, precisely at the time we had been told he would come. He was professional and helpful. When he determined that the part was expensive, he found our warranty information attached to the furnace and went through it to determine if we were still under warranty. He returned the next day within the time period indicated and completed the work quickly. There was no charge for the first visit. When our maintenance contract with One Hour is over, we will move to Apollo.
Description of Work: Apollo replaced a component in our furnace. The faulty part was preventing both the heating and the air conditioning from working. We had called Willis One Hour, with whom we have a maintenance contract. After waiting for 4 hours for One Hour to come, we called and they told us it would be 10:00 at night before someone would come. We were also informed that we would have to pay a premium to designate a 2 hour window for a service call. We are supposedly preferred customers of One Hour after having maintenance contracts with them for over 25 years. The One Hour person responding to our questions was in Phoenix! In desperation, we called Apollo and they came the next day (a Sunday) at no extra charge.

Overall experience was frustrating. The equipment used to clean the ducts is large and cumbersome, i ended up helping get the machine up and down the stairs to ensure no damage was done to the house. We had two units cleaned in a duplex, one in the basement and one on the third floor... In the process, of cleaning the systems one of the units was disabled, this was rectified but was of significant concern for an hour or so. We noticed no difference in air quality, dust or anything else after the cleaning, so was it worth it? We probably won't have the ducts cleaned again in the enar future until new technology is offered thaat demonstrates a true benefit. (I don't have the exact date and cost with me, but form above is required)

The technician was very professional and courteous. He quickly diagnosed the problem and told me that, while the motor would eventually fail because of the problem, I could choose to let it run to failure. I chose to replace it. While he did not have the correct replacement motor in his inventory in his vehicle, he confirmed that the correct replacement was in inventory at their main facility. He gave me the option of waiting for him to go get the replacement motor or scheduling a later visit. I chose to wait, and he returned before the estimated wait and quickly replaced the motor. All in all, it was a very good experience.

I was very pleased with the work performed. They are not the least expensive company BUT I have never dealt with a HVAC company who services as quickly as these guys do. Not just once - every single time. I was so impressed that I joined their gold plan (I think this is what it is called). Gives me discounts on work and parts. By the way, I checked the prices I was being charged on parts and they are fair - and this was before the discount. Every service man was professional and automated. They called as they got near the house and they wore the booties when they walked in the door.
Description of Work: Had them repair circuit board on furnace. Had them repair heat pump electronics. Had them replace hot water heater. Had them track down a septic system problem. Had them connect the gas line to a new gas range top. Had them repair a furnace blower at another location.

Our heat went out on a Monday morning and Apollo had someone out to the house within a couple of hours. Ben R was prompt and professional. He walked me step by step thru his process and started problem solving immediately. He quickly narrowed it down to one issue, the control panel is going bad on my 1989 furnace (go figure). Ben also came up with a solution to get the heat back on immediately and gave me numerous options on how to fix it going forward. Overall I was very pleased with their service and won't hesitate to use them again.

Pros: Scheduling was easy and they had times available the same day Plumbers were prompt, polite, and seemed knowledgeable Cons: PRICE - We have had the same drain cleared by another plumber in the past for half of what they charged. They clearly want customers to sign up for their membership program, and offer lower prices on their services if you do. I was under the impression the $79 service fee would cover anything that wasn't a repair, such as replacing pipe. In reality the service fee is just for coming to your house, which they waive if you have them do any work. I won't use Apollo again for plumbing, but may consider them for heating and A/C service.

Member, Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. We’re very glad to hear that our technician delivered service that you were satisfied with and that it was in a timely manner for you. It does disappoint me that there was confusion about the diagnostic charge. We have always felt it was important for home owners to know the options and costs once a thorough assessment is made. Because every job is different our plumbers obviously need to evaluate the situation prior to giving a price for solving the problem. Some jobs can be very simple and may require to be augured but often times repeat issues indicate bigger concerns and the pipe may require a more advanced cleaning, like jetting, or even repairs or replacement. In either case we always apply that diagnostic fee to work being done so there is no loss. We take a lot of care to make sure that this is explained well over the phone, so again I’m very sorry to hear about the confusion. You mentioned that this charge was higher than what was performed for you in the past by another company. I obviously can’t speak to the service of the other company, I only know that prices do vary from one to another. What I can tell you is all that we do to insure that you not only receive great service the first time, but that you always receive that same level of service. Everything from extensive background checks and drug tests, to continual training and education, and insurance that far exceeds the state minimum requirements in case the unfortunate does happen you’re not stuck with the damages. Additionally we never charge any overtime ever. We know this stuff doesn’t always happen at a convenient time, although luckily for you it sounds like it did. In the event you we’re to need us in the middle of the night, you can rest assured that a live person will answer the phone and technician or plumber would be dispatched as soon as possible. Best yet you’d be kept up to date on his schedule so you don’t sit up all night wondering when the plumber will be there. Again, we know this isn’t cheap and we never claim to be cheap. Having said that, we’re far from the most expensive and we do promise to provide the best service and value. With regard to the Apollo Care Plan you mentioned, yes we certainly do want people to sign up for that and we do offer a 15% discount for plan members. I hope it was explained that a discount is far from the only benefit. For that small investment of $19.95/month you get an annual water heater tune-up and whole home safety inspection, plus an air conditioning tune-up and a furnace tune-up with another safety inspection specifically for your heating system. I mentioned earlier that we weren’t the cheapest, this is one area I have not found anyone able to offer so much at such a low price. Again, thank you for the comments, we love to hear the good and we sincerely take the bad to heart. We’ll work even harder to make sure there is no confusion when any customer calls. We hope that you do in fact use us for your heating and cooling needs. If there is anything we can do that would earn back your trust for our plumbing department, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. I’m personally happy to speak with any customers that have issues, suggestions or comments. We hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Jamie Gerdsen President, Apollo 513-271-3600

Ben R. arrivedon time was very pleasant and asked if we had any concerns or questions about our heating. We did't so he started to work first with thermastat then went to basement to service the furnance. After he completed service he told us very thing was fine and asked if we had any questions, which we didn't . He told us that we had a nice water heater and explained that apollo also did pluming which we didn,t know and asked a few questions about our water heater mainentance. We didn't know that there were routine things that you needed to do. He explained that they had cert. plummers and thatabout their maintenance plan. We have been looking for a plummer since it is just the two of here at home we really don,t know all that needs to be done. We signed up for the program and are very thankful to Ben for the time he took with us toanswer our questions and it also took a worry of our minds. Ben was very professional and is great rep for his company. We have always been pleased with the service we have received from Apollo and are very please to have them for our pluming needs.

We are currently living in Georgia with plans to relocate back to our home in Cincinnati, which has been rented out over the past two years. On a recent visit to the home, we noted water damage to the kitchen ceiling and hardwood flooring and requested a whole home inspection to identify any plumbing issues and give us a quote on the cost of necessary repairs. The Apollo associate was very helpful in scheduling a prompt inspection with the plumber, who provided us with a timely assessment and itemized quote. Unfortunately, as we have no plumbing experience or knowledge, we could not make heads or tails of the quote and needed to have the plumber to go over the entire list with us to explain what appliances/fixtures were involved in each of the items listed. The cost seemed a little high to us, and we consulted my parents, who agreed. When my mother learned of the company we were working with, she informed us that we needed a second bid, as my parents had had a similar experience a few years ago. They, too, had been quoted a price for work that was significantly higher than other companies. At the same time, we discovered that the furnace in the home would need to be replaced. We had obtained a quote for it at the same time as we liked the idea of working with one company to manage both issues. Again, a second quote for the same furnace and installation was $550 higher than the company we used, and this was after the Apollo salesperson was advised of the cheaper bid and offered to lower the price! Again, the service provided was excellent. However, we found that this did not distinguish them from other companies whose prices were more competitive.
Description of Work: The company was very punctual and professional. They providded an estimate in a timely fashion. We had several issues with leaking sink in our master bath and kitchen, two of our toilets needed replacing, and our garbage disposal required replacing. We also requested an estimate on installing a gas line for a gas stove. While we were entirely pleased with the quality of service the company provided us, their bid for performing the work required was approximately 50% higher than the company we chose to do the work, whose quality of service was equally as good.

Customer, Thank you for opportunity and consideration for helping you with your home service needs. We thank you also for the kind words of the service levels provided. I am sorry to hear that you were not happy with the investment required for the work to be done. I obviously can’t speak to what the other company provided for a lower cost. I only know of the quality of work we have and always continue to provide for our customers. And while we always strive to maintain as competitive price as possible, the promise of uncompromised quality is one that is not only important to us, but even more important to our customers. Again, I thank you for the comments and we’ll use them to the fullest to improve our services. Sincerely, Jamie Gerdsen President Apollo

We sat with an Apollo rep on Friday, 2/1PM, to review options to replace our 20yr old gas furnace after a recent Apollo annual inspection showed serious problems with the current furnace. We ordered a new furnace to be installed on Tuesday, 2/5. Luck being what it is, our present furnace blower motor gave up on Sat. AM 2/2 at 5AM, so we called Apollo to move our replacement date up to Mon, 2/4 AM. Our HVAC technician arrived around 7AM Monday as advertised and after briefing us on the days activities, he set about dismantling the old system (including humidifier and electrostatic air cleaner) and installing our new furnace, humidifier, UV air purifier, air filtration package and new digital thermostat system. The job included having to upgrade the gas furnace PVC combustion air intake and exhaust piping from 2" to 3". Throughout the day, our Apollo technician, Stan McKinney, worked to complete each element of the job which which ended up taking up the entire day - job done was about 8PM. Stan is an exemplary Apollo employee and great personal ambassador to the public. Kudos to Stan and Apollo.

Our furnace was running but would not reach the level we had the thermostat set on. I called Apollo in the morniing and they said they could get someone out around 3:00, and apologized for not being able to get someone out sooner. Received a call from Shaun around 2:30 saying he would be at our house in about 15 minutes. He was there as stated. He was very courteous and professional and got to work immediately trouble shooting the problem. He was very through in checking the system. The issue was a matter of the hewat pump not being able to keep up because of the extreme coldness. He was very helpful in expalaining how the system operated and the limits of checking the freon level in such cold temps. He explained once agin very throughly how the emergency heat work and suggested using that during the extreme cold. It was so very nice to have someone explain the system in an understandable way without talking down to me. I had had a problems with Apollo back in 7/2011 and while reviewing them on Angie's list discovered that Mr. Gerdsen had respond to my complaint with a desire to do somethings to earn back my business. I did not realize until now that he had responded and his response was sincere and made me feel that he truly was sorry for what had happened and had taken corrective steps. With so many positive rating and having been pleased with their service prior to 7/11 I decided to use them again. Shaun, the service tech that came out was exactly the type of individulal that made me glad I called them. He was knowledgable, courteous, and well spoken. I felt very confidnet in what he told me about the situation and that he was being up front with his explanations and recommendations. ( : The only down side was that he was a Kentucky Wildcat fan - just kidding of course :) I felt so confidnet that I went ahead and signed up for the Gold Protection Plan Apollo offers. They even honored the offer they made in 2011 as a way to win back my business. They have certainly been successful in turning a skeptic into a believer.

I think it worked -- only time will tell for sure. The workers arrived when expected, were courteous, worked long and hard, and I was satisfied that they were telling me straight what was going on. Between the auger and the jetting, it took 2 trips and probably 7 or 8 hours total. The cost was a shock, but they did tell me in advance what it would be, and gave me a couple of alternative courses of action to consider.
Description of Work: I was having sewer water backing up into the laundry room. This was the 4th or 5th time in 2 years, so I called Apollo rather than using the home warranty service again. They used a camera and saw that tree roots were filling the pipe in several places. The auger wouldn't clear it, so they did a service called "Jetting".

Dear Member, Thank you for choosing Apollo to solve your drain concerns. I hope everything is still flow nicely, I’m confident it will continue to do so. As you now know firsthand, drain issues can often times be very invasive and may require several attempts. This is exactly why our plumbers quote the prices right up front so you know what may be required before committing to anything. You’re one of many of our customers that felt having drains backup 4 and 5 times in 2 years was not acceptable. They too found that making the investment to have the jetting performed along with the root inhibitor treatment was the right choice. We do everything in our power to run as efficiently as possible and keep that cost as little as possible. Having said that, there is indeed more cost to performing a jetting service than simply running another auger. As efficient as we operate and as competitive as our prices are, we have committed to quality above all else. Thank you again for your trust in Apollo and the kind words about our employees. We certainly appreciate it and hope to be able to serve you should you ever have any other plumbing needs. Sincerely, Jamie Gerdson President

They cleaned our air ducts after we had remodeled our basement and had drywall dust throughout the house. This was an Angie's List special. I thought they did a good job. The employee was very polite and courteous and seemed very thorough. I had a newborn baby in the house and he tried his best to not disturb us. My husband was not happy with the hole that they cut into the side of our furnace, but I had done my research and found this to be a standard with the air duct cleaning. I had informed my husband previously but he didn't remember until he saw the hole (which they did seal up after the cleaning). Honestly, the only reason they are getting a B instead of an A is that I wish they could find a way to not have to cut that hole. We have also used them since then, for a furnace repair on Christmas Eve. They sent someone out last minute and were able to diagnose the problem and order a new circuit board. But, it being 5pm on a major holiday, they couldn't get a part until the day after Christmas. Luckily, the temperatures were mild and we were able to use our gas fireplace. They did the repair promptly the day after Christmas. Then it stopped working again. They came back out immediately. But the new employee found out that our thermostat wasn't working properly, which makes me wonder if the initial diagnosis was incorrect and we never needed the $700 repair in the first place. Our home warranty is going to reimburse us for it, but I still wonder??
Description of Work: They cleaned our air ducts throughout the house following a major basement renovation and excessive drywall dust.

There was some misunderstanding in the beginning (on my part as well as the company's). There were some unexpected occurences like mice living inside the old furnace which hadn't been used for some time. However, the company made every effort to provide good, professional service.
Description of Work: Everyone I had contact with was very professional and accommodating.

The Appollo employee was very professional and seemed knowledgeable. He spent time trying a simple intervention before examining more involved options. I would have used their services but the price was high and I was not expecting the level of intervention needed when I first booked the consultation.
Description of Work: No services were performed but a consultation regarding a non-flowing shower drain was done. Drain was "snaked" first with no success and further evaluation done - resulting in recommendation of removal and replacement of pipes and water heater due to rusted closed galvanized pipes.

Response from Apollo Home
Dear Customer, Thank you for making us your first choice in solving your drain and plumbing needs. Slow and non-flowing drains are a common problem many homeowners deal with everyday. Quite often our Plumbers are able to restore flow by using the appropriate drain clearing machines and “snaking” through the blockage. There are however many times the blockage is just a symptom of other problems. In almost every case the problem is either something entering the drain that should not be there, either too large or something that could build up over time such as grease; or after time the pipe simply deteriorates and has reached the end of its useful life and the only solution is for it to be replaced. From the ratings you gave us it seems that this was well explained already and the main issue seems to be the pricing to get you a long term solution. Our plumbers are well trained to evaluate the situation and design a solution that best fits your needs. On top of that the pricing you received, is an exact quote so you never have to worry about the price going up after we’ve began the project. I am sorry that you felt the price was too high. We made a decision as a company a long time ago that we would not sacrifice quality when it comes to performing work on our customers' homes. We would rather apologize to you just one time up front for a slightly higher price than to have to come back time and time again and apologize for poor quality products and service for as long as you have to live with the work performed. If you do change your mind and decide to let us solve this problem for you, we would be happy to come out and perform the work for you. Sincerely, Jamie Gerdsen President
