After joining Angie's list and reviewing comments by others we called two heating specialists based on ratings. Apollo returned our phone call in under 5 minutes the other company returned our call in 1hr 20min later. A repairman was at our door in an hour addressing our heating problem. Ended up needing a new furnace. We had contact with 6 different Apollo specialists. All of the men were very professional, gave a business card at introductions, answered all our questions, and cleaned up after the service was completed. My husband felt the costs were high but due to it being the weekend, having small children, not having heat and mother nature dropping 5 inches of snow...we were not able to take our time and get multiple bids for the job. We are happy with the service and the product at this time. My only hope is that we truly paid a reasonable price for our furnace!

They were very punctual, very professional, very mindful of their surroundings, very polite, and they were a delight to work with. They were on time. We have a water boiler and it is in our basement, so they didn't need to take off their shoes.

The quality of work and service were excellent. However, I am not at all satisfied because they refuse to give anything but a flat fee. Therefore I have no idea about what I actually paid for the motor, the labor or the call. The service person made a trip to purchase a motor, so someone must have known how much it cost. Apollo tells me their computer system only gives the total with no break down. I will take my business elsewhere.

While it seemed that the man from Apollo was being thorough, when finished he supplied us with a quote of approximately $5200 to replace our main water line. As new home owners, we found this number staggering, especially after putting so much money into the house up front. I had done some research beforehand and knew the number the man gave me was astronomical compared to average prices. I thanked the man for his time and paid the service call fee. He suggested that I sign up for financing to pay for the repair, and I told him I would have to think about it. On the way out the door he told me as a new home owner, it'd be a great idea to sign up for a yearly service plan for my house so they could check our heating and cooling systems once each per year. I asked him why it would make sense for me to pay for a monthly plan if I only needed these items checked once yearly. He didn't seem to know how to answer that. Lastly, as I told him we were checking with several other providers and would let them know about the quote, the man told me, "Make sure you're comparing apples to apples. I'm the best digger in the city and you may not get the same level of service with other guys." I'll leave it at that. While things started off amicably enough, they got downright weird near the end, like the guy just had to make a sale before he left, and the price we were quoted for the service was more than three times the average price. We ended up going with another provider who not only replaced the pipe in our yard for $1700, but added new hose fixtures to our utility sink at no extra cost. I'm sure Apollo meant well, but it seems like they charge entirely too much for their services, and rely on monthly contracts to fill in the gaps. I don't feel like this is a great business model to use when you are offering a service people are trying to get the cheapest deal on.
Description of Work: We had Apollo out to survey our property for a water line replacement. We had a rupture in the approximately 60-year-old pipe near the water meter, and it was our responsibility to repair it. The gentleman from Apollo spent about an hour surveying the property, checking our pipes and determining work to be done using a variety of tools.

I can't say enough about either the techs or the installer. They knew their business, and they were genuinely concerned about my situation. They were everything you want from a provider, particularly when your furnace goes down during a polar vortex. They got here on time, got straight to the job, explained everything they were doing and why, and didn't leave until they were certain I was satisfied with the work.

On 1-7-13 called Apollo for what I the time I thought was either a frozen cold water line (Just got hit with polar vortex) or failed shower valve cartridge. They scheduled an appointment for 1-8-13. Tech shows up and it did indeed end up being bad valve. He then replaced valve cost was $474 for this visit about hours work. Also added gold service package for HVAC and plumbing at that time or price would have been $530 plus. Only $20 is part of service plan 12 payments. Was needing new service contract anyway. --------------------- Woke up today and no heat. Called them again at around 8:00 am. Not sure of time he arrived but it couldn't have been more than hour or so. Hot surface ignitor was out. He promptly replaced it took about hour also. Total for this bill $273. Seems the markup on parts with Apollo is outrageous. Think both parts could be purchased for easily under $100 since I didn't get part numbers not sure. HSI for Carrier goes for $25 oem on amazon. Back in 07 I had HSI replaced in different home total for that bill was $132. Figuring $100 to $150 for labor would seem more than fair. Give them credit for showing up on time and someone always answering the phone. I will stick with them until my service contract runs out then resume search for more reasonably priced options.

I requested Apollo to come out and give me a price. I made this request on Wed. and they sent Dave out on Thursday. I accepted the bid and they came out Friday morning at 7:30 AM and worked until 6:30 PM in the evening. The furnace was finished and running before they left. Sat. Earl started at 7:30 AM and installed the air conditioner and fixed some other problems that I showed them. He was done by 2:30 PM. The entire job was done by one person, Earl, and he was outstanding. Apollo will do all of my work in the future. Dave Coleman was also outstanding.

Apollo was great! Vincent arrived at my house around midnight and gave me all my options. I opted for the sump pump with battery backup. He installed the new sump pump right then and there. I am so grateful that Apollo had an on-call plumber on duty, especially right before Christmas! Many companies advertise 24-hour emergency service, but they don't truly offer it. (I found this out the hard way, believe me.) Apollo definitely does! Vincent was very professional and thorough. If you need a plumber right away for an emergency, call Apollo!
Description of Work: I came home at 10:30p after a Christmas party to find that my sump pump stopped working. This was after 24 hours of rainfall and with another 12 hours of rain expected. My basement was filling with water. I called Apollo to see if I could get a plumber out ASAP.

I was quoted approximately $700.00 for this repair. Since I don't have a job and no income I asked for a discount. The discounted price was approximately just under $700.00 (with a monthly service plan). I said I might as well have a new furnace installed for that amount and was told "we can do that"! Well....I didn't have the money for that either. I got another quote from a friend, the cost for the new circuit board was $141.00. You can see the huge difference between $700 and $141.00. I'm all for people making a profit but that's a little over kill. That's about a 500% mark up. Needless to say, my friend got the part and fixed my furnace $141.00 for the part and $60.00 for installation. This took about 1 hour 15 minutes. Plus the $79.00 diagnostic fee from Apollo. My total cost $280.00. You have to ask yourself how much is too much to pay!
Description of Work: The provider came and determined that I needed a new circuit board for my furnace. The repairman said he had never seen this kind of problem before. He told me had about 2 years experience in heating and AC work. Since The unit is 12 years old and has been well maintained.

I have used five or more HVAC companies in the two+ decades I have lived in my house. Many of them have good ratings on Angie's List. Apollo is by far the best. Their scheduling department was pleasant and efficient. The technician who did the service is a great credit to the company. He was polite, professional, tidy, conscientious, thorough, and honest about what work had to be done. He even asked if I wanted the filter changed because the one that was installed was still clean (I had replaced just a couple of weeks prior to the service). The technician could have easily just put in a new filter as I had shown him the box of extra filters. Instead, he took the time the come upstairs, show me the in-use filter and ask if I wanted a new one installed. This may be a fairly small thing, but I appreciated his effort. The technician described all the payment plans in a factual and low key manner. I selected the monthly payment plan of approximately $16/month. I think I will be very happy with this. I will definitely use Apollo again. Plus they have very cute commercials.

Our 23-year-old Bryant furnace called "the Old Boy" decided it had had enough and on Nov. 30, 2013 stopped working. The issue was that while the pilot light (yes, it's that old) remained lit, it would not ignite the burners; thus when the blower kicked in, all that we were getting through the vents in the house was cold air - not a good situation. I called Apollo on Sunday morning, left message with the after-hours people & I had a call back from the field technician within 45 minutes. He came out later on Sunday afternoon. SAME PRICE AS AN APPOINTMENT DURING THE WEEK (I think $79 is their call-out rate). Anyway, the technician diagnosed that the control-board (the brain) of the furnace was not sending the right message to the burners to turn on after performing the customary safety check on the system. The board-brain was an $800 item. Hmm! At this stage my wife & I are wondering whether it's worth keeping "the Old Boy" alive, but the prospect of shelling out thousands on a new furnace at Christmas time did not excite us. Anyway, we enrolled in Apollo's Gold Plan for $15/month which gets us priority service (probably a good thing considering "Old Boy's" age), %15 off of parts - which we could apply to the brain-board part we needed & also a couple of free checks on the system; including air con. We okay'd the deal. There was no pressure from Apollo to do anything we didn't want to do & the price for the board was brought down to $650 & no additional call-out costs when the part came in. Part came in on Monday afternoon on & they were out on Monday evening to install. Part was installed, but "Old Boy" was still being uncooperative. After working for almost four hours on stubborn "Old Boy," the technician, Barry, created an by-pass that enabled us to have heat for the night! Hurrah! That said, Barry was going to send in Shawn who knew how to deal with "Old Boy." The next evening Shawn arrived & re-wired "Old Boy's" brain so that burners & blowers would synchronize. I want to emphasize how wonderful Barry & Shawn were! What a team. They both worked later into the evening to get "Old Boy" going again. They were skilled, knowledge, dedicated, & totally 100% professional - and they worked really, really h****** our aging furnace system! Thank you, guys! Upon his visit, Barry also noted a problem with the thermo-coupler & the resistor on the blower unit. These parts were on the truck & we authorized Barry to install these also for an additional $250. I must say that although we spent close to $900 "Old Boy" is probably working the best he ever has! Our furnace used to blow & blow & blow & we were constantly running to the thermostat turning it up & down to control things. The blower would turn on & we would feel so hot in a short period of time. Then you'd turn the thermostat down & then you'd feel chilly almost as quickly. That is now all a thing of the past! And I bet we will save money on our heating bills with these improvements! We set the temperature - are very comfortable in the house - and we forget it. "Old Boy" may still have a couple more years left in him, but we are so thankful that we chose Apollo! These guys are absolutely fantastic & I would go with no other Heating/Cooling company! Great job Apollo & thank you so much Barry & Shawn!

The service tech spent some time trying to convince me that a service contract made a lot of sense, but at $16/month, I asked how much savings it would provide if I needed a repair like replacing the draft induction motor. He said 15%. He also said at 12 years old, my Armstrong furnace might have a bad heat exchanger, and that my Armstrong furnaces over 10 years old often have this problem. So he used a fiber optic camera to look inside the heat exchanger. He pointed out a possible crack by a crimp, which I said I could not see. He then said it looked good after a little more looking. He also did not know that an Armstrong furnace has a lifetime warranty on the stainless heat exchanger (with a limited warranty) which was somewhat concerning. Also, the heat exchanger is a serpentine S-type and there was no way the fiber optic could be worked through the entire exchanger, so this inspection seemed somewhat questionable. The bottom line is that I paid for this $80 service call, and was waiting to hear back from Apollo the next day with a quote in writing for the draft motor replacement, but no one ever called me or send anything via email. I called another Angie's List furnace repair, who told me he could replace just the motor and fan housing the next day, which he did for $420 with no service contract, about half the price Apollo asked.
Description of Work: Service tech came out to inspect a noisy draft induction motor on my furnace. He agreed it was going bad, and asked me what I liked better, an approx. $650 repair with a service contract or and $800+ repair without. Of course I said the $650. He was going to get a quote out to me by the next day, but I never heard back from anyone at Apollo. Because it was going to get a lot colder, I decided to contact another Angie's List provider about price and details.

The service and installation itself were fine. What was not fine was 3 years later when I started the process of selling the condo for a corporate relocation. The relocation company required that I get verification of all permits for work done where a permit was required. I called the local permit office to verify the permit for the HVAC only to find that a permit had never been requested for the work even though I had paid a fee for the permit. Apollo quickly remedied that situation however it makes me wonder how often this little scheme was pulled by them -- make the customer pay a permit fee but then never actually get a permit.

I was not told enough information. The technician have me a quote to repair my a/c of approximately $2500. I asked how much it would be to replace and had to wait a few hours for a salesman to come tell me what I needed to buy. When the salesman was quoting me the price of replacement he was giving me prices of a furnace. No one told me I needed a furnace that worked fine the last time I had used it!I had another company come and they told me exactly what was wrong and what needed to be replaced. Apollo quoted me approximately $7000 for the most basic furnace and ac. I was able to replace it all for much less than that with high quality equipment with another company.

on all visits ( they have been to my house 4 separate times over the last year ) they have sent professional, polite intelligent technicians. I live in a older home and needed my systems updated . they have replaced my hot water heater and furnace and checked all supporting systems to assure everything was working properly . always on time , work completed in a timely fashion . we have had problems in past with rude service people, but not with Apollo they obviously care about their customers and conduct themselves with pride of service , not always easy to find in this day and age . When the serviceman arrived he took measurements and readings and said that a motor was amping at the max level and that we should replace it. He gave us an estimate and kept talking about upgrading our maintenance plan to the next level (for only $113 more a month!!) so that if anything happens to our furnace in the future, we would receive a new furnace free of charge. I suggested that it would be wiser to save the $113 a month and use that money to pay for a new furnace if we ever needed one instead of prepaying for one we only "might" need. We asked more questions about the motor replacement and he continued to pressure us to purchase the maintenance plan. We told him we'd think about it. We then compared the readings and measurements of the service call from the two weeks before and they were exactly the same with encouragement from that service guy that all was well. We researched typical measurements and discovered that although at the higher range, that they were within the normal range. We had another company come out to confirm the repairmen's insistence that we needed a new motor and he assured us that we were fine. We haven't had a problem ever again. When an Apollo salesperson called to schedule our next maintenance and to renew our contract, I told him that we didn't want to continue and that we feel as if Apollo cares more about the maintenance plans than the maintenance and that we felt like we were being tricked into replacing something that wasn't broken.
Description of Work: As part of our maintenance program, our furnace was cleaned, checked out, etc. Two weeks later, during a very cold spell, the furnace didn't come on for a couple of hours. Panicking, we called and a service provider was dispatched. We tried again, and the furnace responded and all was well. When we called to cancel the service call, they strongly suggested that they would still come and check out the furnace to make sure things were okay.

We owned our home for less than a day when another contractor identified that there may be an issue with the operation of our furnace. We found Apollo on Angie's List and called early in the morning. Rob arrived promptly and was very personable and knowledgeable. After examining the situation, he secured the right parts, returned promptly and completed the job. He also took the next step to examine the compressor to be sure it was working properly to avoid any other issues. We would highly recommend Rob and Apollo for future work.

We had our AC fail right in the middle of 90+ degree heat. Apollo dispatched Cory on Saturday, he diagnosed it and suggested we get all our options, including a new unit since a repair would have been half the cost of a new one. Dave came 30 minutes later and walked us through our options, didn't try to upsell us and even asked us hard questions about whether we planned on staying in the house for the foreseeable future. He gave us all the information we needed to make the right choice. Doug then came on a Tuesday and worked tirelessly for a full day. He clearly explained all the changes he was making in addition to things he noticed that we could do, ourselves, to save money on our heating and cooling. Every single interaction with Apollo people has left me feeling like they're genuinely looking out for their customer -even if it means they don't get the big sale or big repair. They absolutely earned their service rating with me. One thing I forgot to mention while writing their internal review was that they had run out of stock of the model A/C we purchased. Apollo upgraded us to the next model up (from a 14 to a 16 seer) at no additional cost. That is classy.
Description of Work: Apollo dispatched a repairman on a Saturday. Repairman advised us the repair would likely cost half the cost of a new unit so, considering the age of the existing, we should talk about replacing it altogether. Replacement went smoothly.
