I met with the owner, Chris Ernst a few weeks before the job was started to get an understanding of his technical knowledge, attitude, and capability. I have a very complex roof with a stone chimmney, an EIFS Chimney, multiple intersecting roofs, and solar panels so I wanted to make sure he knew what he was doing. I was educated as, and worked as, a facilities engineer and I stay up to date on home construction and repair materials and processes so my questions were more technical than most. Chris has worked in the industry for years on the materials side and on the construction side. I was impressed by Chris' knowledge and his plan for completing my roof. When the job started I was impressed by the knowledge of the team and the way in which the lead guy managed and coached his team. Chirs was on the job most of the time and the team even worked on Sunday to beat a rain storm which was expected later in the week. The entire team had a lot of pride in the work that they did and the methods which they used. They didn't mind that I asked questions and looked at the work they were doing. Before hiring American Home and Garage Services I was concerned about their small size but those concerns vanished as I worked with them. My old roof was only 14 years old but it had some venting, leak, and shingle issues which have existed since it was installed by one of the larger, very reputable roofing companies in my area. (I tried to have the last roofing company fix the issues over the years but I could not get them to come out until I told them I needed to HIRE them to replace the roof. ) Chris' team diagnosed the issues, showed me why they felt they had identified the causes, and them put solutions in place. They did a great job cleaning up each day. There were a couple of unforeseen conditions with damaged roof decking which they repaired on a time and material basis. T&M work always make me nervous about how much it will cost me. The bill for the T&M work was fair and in line with my expectation. The roof has only been completed for a couple of day (both rainy) but it looks great and our long term leaks are gone.
