We hired (Victor) Addis Concrete in Dec 2017 to do concrete work at 3922 Grove Ave in Norwood, OH. He was to tear out pour a new driveway from garage to street, pour new steps to the sidewalk, a new curb and new sidewalks around the front and back of the house. He charged us $11,500 for this work which we paid IN FULL. Immediately the driveway cracked in more than 5 places, cracks the full length of the driveway. The steps were not properly done as the steps not only sloped back and held water, they were of various sizes and immediately started to crumble. The walkways spilled from the forms so instead of a straight sidewalk edges, the sides bulge at at least 3 locationsThe only work that was performed satisfactory, a small wall by the porch, that he contracted out. All attempts to have contractor fix the issues have gone without reply other than on April 13, 2017 where I sent a message to his phone, but the reply was I “had the wrong number”. I had no less than 10 companies give me an estimate to replace all the concrete work Victor Addis did and EVERY SINGLE ONE said they could not believe a professional did the work. I can provide photos of ALL ISSUES. Contractor is very hostile and demeaning towards me (a woman). Be careful not to trust him just cash your check at your bank like I did. It’s a way of getting around the fact that he has NO ASSETS for you to recover when he defaults.

Addis Concrete (Victor Addis) requested and received deposit up front. The work was substandard, and when questioned about the work, he demanded payment in full although work was not completed per contract. Due to his aggressive behavior, the police had to be contacted to remove him from the property. Although building inspector cited that work was not completed per code and world have to be removed/replaced, Victor Addis refused responsibility or to refund deposit. Instead he chose to pursue full payment thru small claims court! Beware!

The photos attached should speak for themselves. I hope they are available to be downloaded by any interested party so that my be enlarged so as to show the full nature of the photos. When confronted with the deficiencies of his, Vic Addis, work, and told no payment beyond the initial the deposit/down payment would be received, his actions necessitated the involvement of law enforcement.

Initially went well, then the day after the pour, Vic Addis' wall sub-contractor drove onto the driveway. I asked Vic if this was ok as we were parking across the street for at least a week to be sure it was set. He first told the guy to move then just went along unloading the truck of the wall blocks with the sub-contractor. Now the end of the driveway is crumbling away. Vic refused to repair it and go verbally aggressive. After speaking with the city, they contacted him saying he needed to come down to pull the permit and repair the damage or get fined. Vic Addis chose the fine so we are left with a crumbling driveway.

The final outcome is that he said he was fed up with my checking his work and talking to his crew (he wasn't here to talk to). He pulled off the job and would not return any payments I had made. If I had not checked his work, I would have had a driveway that was only 2 inches thick in places and that drained water up to my house.
Description of Work: Was suppose to tear out my existing asphalt driveway and replace with concrete. Took days to remove most of existing, not all of it. Won't show up at what I consider work time. When his crew set the forms and said that they were going to pour I checked the grade. The depth of the pour (concrete) would have been 2 to 3 inches and we had discussed 4.5 to 5 inch pour. Tried to call him that morning but his company phone was disconnected ( had been working the day before). Also checked slope (fall from one side to the other) it fell back toward my house instead of away. I had asked him the day before if he had checked the slope and he told me yes and that it was good.

Response from Addis Concrete
Addis Concrete strongly disputes [member name removed] Claims! [member name removed] project first and foremost was not a contract job by Addis Concrete but taken as a favor for a mutual friend sealed with a handshake. [member name removed] failed to state he had his driveway taken out which was thicker than regular tea-rout standards along with more than norm sub-base, 19 City Sidewalk block that was a average 7-10 inches, a neighbors drive that had 3 drives on top one another. (Photos were taken ) A crew formed & prepared [member name removed] drive inspection was ordered by County inspector . Prior to the inspectors arrival [member name removed] demanded we not pour his Drive which he also put in writing & we have a copy of that document. Mr [member name removed] left & the Clermont County inspector arrived & passed the site prep with form-work to pour. A finishing crew was already on site & concrete on its way which had to be canceled. Upon [member name removed] arrival he was told the inspector approved the Site-work& form-work his statement the inspector does not know what he is doing nor does the foreman I am a retired labor. After the concrete pour was cancelled by [member name removed] the crew set up his neighbors drive [member name removed] stated he would be going to the neighbor after the crew left. The crew showed up to pour the neighbors with concrete on the way & the neighbor also cancelled their pour & said they did not want the crew to do their drive (which we have via voice recording) We have photos of the prep work with a tape measure which shows 5 inches thick. [member name removed] only paid for the Tea-rout phase of the work!! [member name removed] actually still owes the crew for the grade-work, site prep, form-work, Material used, crews pay for the day to set up the forms & site Prep Along with another days pay for the crew for which he cancelled concrete further more [member name removed] has not paid for the site prep or form-work & material used for his neighbors drive along with a days pay for the finishing crew that arrived to pour his neighbors drive (4) days of crew productivity was lost which the funds to date have not been recoup. After [member name removed] a basic labor telling the site foreman he did not know what he was doing, After [member name removed] stating the Clermont County Inspector did not know what he was doing & harassment by [member name removed] to the crew over a several day period it was agreed by both [member name removed] & the Site Foreman that the project stop & [member name removed] find another crew to pour for him both parties signed a legal document stating such which we have a copy of . We have all photos & documents & recordings on file to strongly dispute the claims of [member name removed]. [member name removed] was informed at initial consultation on Tear outs anything over standard tear out inches would amount in additional cost. [member name removed] was a great customer until he understood the additional tear-out cost & in Good Favor was not Charged additionally for the extra tear out of the 19 City sidewalk block. Furthermore [member name removed] upon mutual agreement to no longer continue signed by both parties was told he would not be charged for the remainder balanced owed which was previously agreed upon. [member name removed] comments About Addis Concrete are Slander & defamation of Character! Which Troubles Addis Concrete very Deeply as the crew which not under contract to [member name removed] was simply doing a favor for a mutual friend of both parties and was only quoted 50% of regular rates upon initial consultation. This is the first & only negative experience Addis Concrete has had with a customer all season which now the true facts outlined by Addis Concrete along with numerous exhibits of Photos, Documents, Approval of site prep & form-work by the Clermont County Building inspector, 4 days of lost productivity & pay clearly show [member name removed] statements About Addis Concrete are simply untrue & a result of a additional charge on tear-outs of the 2 drives which he was given a break & not charged for the 19 city sidewalk block . Every attempt was made to make [member name removed] a happy Customer by the crew. We Pray for [member name removed] & wish him only the best in his future en-devours
