Excellent! Home is 5 years old, built by Fischer. I was unable to get a response from Fischer homes on type of floor so we could match to existing hardwood. We replaced carpet in bedroom, closet and office. They found the exact flooring, gave an excellent price and did outstanding work. Neat and clean, very professional. And, floor is a perfect match and flows from living room and hallway into other rooms without any difference or change in color or style. You would think the flooring had been in home since new! Entire staff from sales to billing to installation was very efficient, courteous and professional. Would highly recommend them.

A step above worked very hard to get us what we needed at a price we could afford. They went above and beyond in every aspect of this project.

I thought it went great until I found out later just how this company handles a problem. Felt threatened and used by them to handle a payment issue. Never would I recommend this company.

Did an excellent job. Also fixed rotten area under sink and installed new wood and kick plate. Very pleased.

A gentleman came and scoped out the project. He was very good; punctual, knowledgeable and very helpful. We looked forward to receiving the estimate (one of three companies) so we could meet the time frame for our project. This gentleman advised he would submit the info to their estimators. The estimator did not respond. After approximately 2 weeks I called to inquire as to its status (twice). The second time the lady said she was sorry and would get the estimate out later that afternoon or the next day at the latest. Approximately a week and a half after that, having not received the info, I called the company to ask if they were simply refusing to submit an estimate. The owner, apologized profusely, and said he would be certain to get to the bottom of the problem and call back before he left for the day. He was good to his word. He did call back that evening and said the estimator would supply info the next work day. The problems with the estimator, however, made us wary of selecting them. We had all other estimates in hand within 1-5 days of initial visit. Our overall rating, responsiveness, and punctuality is a C. This is a blend of the various contacts we had with the company.The initial gentleman who came to our house to scope the project , as well as the owner, were an "A+", but the severe problems getting info from the estimator was an "F". We chose a different supplier.

It went very well. Richard facetimed and called me a few times to make sure everything was correct. He really helped my wife decide on the color and they even painted the floor a couple of different coats to show us the colors. They took off the crown moulding and installed new crown moulding. I had a few issues and they came back immediately and fixed it all.

The only thing keeping it from being 100% excellent is the quality of the measurements and the delivery of material. They were short toe strip and threshold and some toe strip that did not match. At the same time, there was no hassle in getting replacement toe strip and additional material needed.

Richard and Rick (father and son) did a great job with my floors. They were easy to work with, courteous, professional and cleaned up afterwards too. The company was very responsive to figuring out how to get the molding right because the new flooring was thinner than the bamboo I had, which revealed a small gap between the kitchen cabinets and the floors. The only reason I gave them a B for professionalism was that there were some communication problems with the sales/office staff. Nothing that was a big deal, they just need to improve communication between each other. I'm completely satisfied with the work and I would not hesitate to call them for a quote on my hardwood floors. Initially I was also going to have them buff and recoat the hardwood floors. After doing a couple small repairs they told me it wasn't worth the expense. That my floors were just worn out and dry. Also Rick noticed that the floor under my area rug was in much better shape and figured out that the floors were actually waxed. He told me what to do to try to make them look a little better by waxing them myself.

Marty, the owner, was late for the scheduled appointment but finally showed up to look at the stairs. He said he would get back with me about some ideas and pricing after the Christmas holiday, which would be about two weeks. After three weeks I contacted him and he said he would send out one of his subcontractor carpenters, he never showed or contacted me. I tried to contact Marty but never received a call back until I left a strong voice message about writing a poor review. That got a response and Marty said he would have another subcontractor carpenter contact me but never received a call. Finally, I emailed Marty not to bother and told him that we were using Schutte Stair Co., Inc. I did receive an estimate on refinishing the kitchen hardwood floors on 1/26/17 not one for the stairs. I must say Schutte did an awesome job. I would never recommend A Step Above Flooring & Installation Inc to anyone. I would recommend Schutte Stair Co.

Overall the project went great, Just a couple of minor bumps with unexpected problems. I have enjoyed working with them. They were very responsive and did a fabulous job. I love my floors. I intend to return soon to finish up my flooring needs.

The floors are absolutely beautiful and their work exceeded our expectations. I do not have a single complaint. The job took 5 days. The two gentlemen doing the work did an outstanding job. When my worrying got the best of me (is the stain color right, etc), they were kind and patient with me. I would most certainly recommend this company.

He pulled up all of the old wood on the floor and he suggested that we put vinyl over it by the back door. It looks very nice and is lasting well. I feel like it was done at a very good price. He completed the work quickly.

They did a very good job. It looks beautiful and we are very happy with it.

The original plywood base was problematic, but A Step Above did a great job of making sure that the new floors would not warp. They were very neat in their cutting and laying the boards, and the floors look fabulous!

Was very professional, punctual, reasonably priced, helped me make great col;or decisions. I wanted to go green and we found an excellent padding and carpet to fill the bill. The gentleman who installed it did a meticulous job laying the carpet perfectly, especially around corners.

Amazingly well! We had a previous contractor who had attempted to install the flooring but ran out of materials and did a terrible job at best. The team from Step Above truly take their craft personally and make sure they provide true quality not just in their workmanship but also the products they carry (and do not carry). Highly recommend and will definitely use them again, true lifesavers!

They were excellent. They are going to be coming out and repair our hardwoods as well. They are going to cut the rug down to size while they are out here. We picked out the carpet and they cut it down to the size I wanted and bound it. They brought it out and laid it. It was reasonably priced, more than buying nice throw rugs. They have put hardwood floors in our other house. To fix the hardwoods he will charge by the hour. One rug is 10 by 12 and the other one is 15 by 12 and I paid $900 for both rugs. It included the delivery, binding, and the felt pad underneath. It was the cheapest that I was able to find.

Overall the work went very well. I was surprised to learn that he was going to sub-contract the work to another tile company. This was not a bad thing just surprising that we were not informed. The job went very well and the work was performed according to the contract. The sub-contractor was extremely professional and clearly were experts in their field. The couple of minor concerns I had were: The mark-up on the tile seemed a bit high compared to the retail price. When we changed the tile for the power room we were charged for additional tile but when I asked for the extra original tile I was told that their was not enough. I expected to pay additional labor for the change but was surprised by the additional tile cost even though it was minor, especially without getting extra tile form the original bid Some of the baseboards were impacted by a reduction of the height of the tile and fixing this was not in the bid (which was very detailed and excellent) but I feel that this should have been anticipated. I am very handy so I was able to fix this but was a bit of a pain. These are very minor things. The floor looks awesome and my wife is happy.

From co-owner, John Alford, to the front office staff to the floor refinishing team, the service and knowledge that I was provided impressed me. I initially drove 45 mins to visit the store for information on a specific stain that only they sell. Hearing my questions co-owner Martin Dickhaus apologized and suggested I come back to speak with John. I was not thrilled to make the drive again, but I am SO happy that I did. Without knowing if I was going to hire them, John spent an hour answering questions & showing me samples. John asked if he could give me a rough estimate. Having 3 previous estimates, I was sure I couldn't afford to have someone refinish the floor. To my amazement John's estimate was ~50% of the other companies. I agreed to have John come out to measure the square footage, have an interior decorator, that he provided, to help with color selection and provide a formal estimate. I was expecting the "well, it is a lot more work than the information you gave me..." excuse; however, the formal estimate was within $200 of the rough estimate! By the next day I was scheduled within three weeks, even though it was the holiday rush for them. On the scheduled day, Richard and Rick appeared on my doorstep at time I was told they would. They were wonderful in every way through the whole process. The special stain that I picked was delayed. On the day that it arrived John Alford personally delivered it to my house and stayed to help and oversee its application! The floor turned out wonderful, despite me leaving a hand print in the stain layer in the hall. I cannot say enough good things about Richard, Rick, John and the office staff. I will only use A Step Above Flooring from now on.

A step Above to the rescue!! (We initially had another company install our floors and they did an awful job. The install lacked professional finishing details. The sanding was terrible and showed lines and grooves and cuts were done poorly, boards were not checked, putty everywhere to fix cracks and missing putty in nail holes and the owner had an excuse for everything. We had chosen to have Rubio Monocoat applied to the oak floors and they ruined that too) We had to wait a few weeks bc A Step Above only uses the best men. No temps or subs. It was worth waiting for. Rick Senior and Jr did an amazing job. They will be coming back to do our downstairs in the summer.
