My experience with this company was very poor. After researching moving companies and getting estimates, I called A-Movers. On the phone, they gave me a estimated quote that I was happy with. The day of the move, they arrived later than the specific time they were to be at my house by 30 minutes (not a huge deal, but it is what it is). They showed up with one unmarked truck, a van, and a car. They didn't bring any moving equipment with them that other moving companies that I've worked with typically have (dollies, blankets, etc). On their website, they report having a "2 Hour Minimum" for any services they provide. However, once the 3 men who moved the items were completed, they stated that there is a 3 hour minimum, which is not what their website states or what they told me over the phone. So, they moved items for two hours, and charged my family for three hours of work. When confronting them about overcharging my family, the main owner actually hung up on me. Overall, I would steer clear of this moving company, regardless of their "positive" reviews on the internet and their "good" BBB rating. After researching moving companies, I thought to myself, this company has great reviews and a positive BBB rating, what could go wrong? Well, from my experience, they displayed poor professionalism, lied about multiple issues, and overcharged us and then didn't rectify this situation.
Description of Work: We needed Movers to move items from our house to 2 pods in the driveway.

Dear [Member Name Removed], We are sorry [Member Name Removed] now feels that she didn't have a good experience with our service. We pride ourselves on providing superior customer service and our reviews reflect this. [Member Name Removed], our customer, called one week prior to Aug. 29th 2017. She explained that she and her husband were moving and had ordered "PODS" units. She noted she only wanted the heavy items loaded into the PODS. I explained that we have a 3 hour minimum on all moves, which she understood. She also understood that because the items would be loaded on a POD (and not our truck) that we are not responsible for any damage when PODS drivers move the PODS. In an effort to assist [Member Name Removed] with her short time frame we were able to reschedule a move we had on the 29th and called [Member Name Removed] to confirm a 10am start time. We arrived at 9:50 am on August 29th. We arrived in our cargo van early as we didn't need a moving truck to load furniture into PODS. We did have all the equipment needed onsite. As we met with [Member Name Removed] she said she forgot to tell us about extra items that needed to be loaded in the POD, including a commercial treadmill which needed to come up a flight of stairs and weighed over 250 lbs. I advised it was no problem to move the other items which were not on the list, including the commercial treadmill. Before we began [Member Name Removed] signed and initialed the paperwork which stated we have a 3 hour minimum and she completely understood the paperwork as per our previous phone conversation. We moved furniture into PODS in a professional manner (stretch wrapped/prepped). We moved the heavy treadmill and other items. In all, 2 hours and 40 minutes, which the paperwork reflects. [Member Name Removed] paid by check (#[Member Information Removed]) on completion and gave another check (#[member Information Removed]) for a $60.00 tip. As we left, [Member Name Removed], her husband and her mother were very thankful and very happy with our work. Approximately 1 Hour later I received a call from [Member Name Removed] stating she thought we had a 2 hour minimum. I reiterated the paperwork and our prior conversation in re our 3 hour minimum. I noted that: A) we were onsite for 2 hours and 40 minutes anyway, and B). had moved her extra undisclosed items, including the heavy commercial treadmill, and didn't charge anything additional for moving the treadmill up a flight of stairs. She apologized and thanked me again. Approximately 30 mins later a man called stating he is [Member Name Removed]'s father. He was very rude, yelling, and stating that [Member Name Removed] was "still young" and can't make decisions, He said our website states 2 hour minimum and called me a fraud and was going to write bad reviews and stopping payment on the checks. He was very unreasonable and wanted to threaten rather than having a professional discussion. After an hour passed I called him back. He seemed calmer. I explained the paperwork. Solely in an effort to satisfy our customer (and father) I offered to send a check for the 20 minutes difference. At that point he said what they really wanted was for our company to unload the pods after the closing on their new house at month's end. I offered one free hour on unloading the PODS, stressing they needed to schedule soon to get the date they need. [Member Name Removed] came on the phone and she scheduled the PODS unload for September 30th at 10am. Today, Sept 12th, [Member Name Removed] called to advise their closing had been moved up and that she wanted us to unload her PODS on Tuesday September 26th instead. After looking at our schedule I advised that we are booked that day and it would be impossible to accommodate that accelerated date. [Member Name Removed] then cancelled the Unload scheduled for the 30th and thanked me for all my help. One hour later, [Member Name Removed]. wrote the negative review. We believe we continued to go above and beyond for our customer, including offering additional time at no charge to unload PODS units. We would be glad to honor our offer to provide one free hour in unloading the PODS, but cannot reschedule from the 30th to the 26th.

They were professional and they came on time. They were very careful in moving the hospital beds on an old staircase in my house. It wasn't an easy thing to do and they were very careful not to mar any walls. They were very good. They took their time. They kept me posted. They called me when they got to the other house and when they left the other house so I knew to be here. They did an overall good job.
Description of Work: They moved some hospital beds from one residence to another.

They did an excellent job and they were on time. They called and they gave us enough notification. They were just terrific. One of the pianos was on the second floor and they charged $300 and the other piano was moved to a different spot on the first floor. They charged $125 for that piano. We would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: We used A-1 Movers to do a two piano move.

They were prompt (early, in fact), and they worked quickly. However, they broke a lamp of mine. At the end of the job when I asked how they would handle it, he claimed they wouldn't be held responsible because my floor lamp was not in a box! A policy which they did not mention prior to touching the lamp, by the way. They also got a big smudge on the couch, then said they weren't responsible for that either. They did not wrap the couch like every other mover I've ever had has done. Then they asked to borrow my tools, and ended up losing my wrench. They tried to leave without re-assembling a table they took apart. The ''manager'' of the crew was not pleasant, and tried to intimidate me over the lamp experience by telling me that ''an attorney owns the company'' and the law was on their side. A terrible experience, and even though they were fast and reasonably priced, I'll never call them again.
Description of Work: They moved furniture from 3-room apartment to 4-room apartment (in town).

I definitely do not recommend A-1 movers to anyone. Luckily we hadn't paid them any money before they quit on us.
Description of Work: Two movers arrived LATE and complained that the work was going to take longer than described and that their other customers were going to be upset. They moved one item down the steps and called it quits. By that I mean they got in their truck, drove off and left us out to dry. I couldn't believe it.
