Worse experience ever with a contractor. Said things but did not do them. Was supposed to pay us for the things purchased out of our pocket. Left us with a $2500 credit card bill where we purchased the cabinets and lighting. Also took out $1000 deposit that we put down. Very cheap materials used in the house. Toilet seats are like what you find on a port -a-pot, cabinets were cracked, cabinets were put where the dishwasher was supposed to be, no dryer vent (fire hazard) , trim not done around the exterior doors, laminate floor is bowed, and soft in other places. Roop would not do a final walk-through with us. With all of these issues, we now know why. Would not give us the keys after saying he was finished. We changed one of the locks. He came back, tried to keep us from getting in again by changing the dead bolt and stealing the AC breaker. (neighbor saw him and called us) We had to call the Sheriff's Department to file a complaint. Was told to call them and would be arrested if he came back on the property. Roop underestimated his part of the contract so therefore withheld the money he owed us. Would not communicate with us at all, never answering or returning our phone calls. We were criticized for calling him on the weekend, even though that was the only time I was off work. I received a text that said " I am unavailable on the weekend" . We tried to communicate with him several times to come to an agreement on the final payment but were unsuccessful. We did owe him additional funds for the flooring and the textured ceilings but we did not expect him to take advantage and that is exactly what he did. We do not have any choice but to give him a negative recommendation.
Description of Work: Hired Mike Roop from Roops Construction to build my daughter a home. We went with him because he gave us the best estimate but he took $3400 extra from us in the end. Others have now came forward, telling us that they have had issues with him in the past. Wish we would've done our homework first. We would not have hired Roop Construction. Would not recommend this contractor to build anything!
