Initially hired to empty septic tank which was done. However, it was determined that our dry-well was full too and once located, it was emptied as well for an extra fee. The portion of the service, I really have no issue. My primary issue is that in the course of opening our dry-well, the service person broke the lid, claiming it was old and pretty much crumbled. He told me I would need a new lid and I asked what that would cost and he told me about $100 as they are pretty common. After a few days of leaving my dry-well exposed, somebody from the office informed me that they would need to make me a new lid since they did not have one in stock. Looking back, I should have asked for a price, but I did not. After a month, I was finally informed that the lid was ready and they would deliver and install it. Unfortunately, they only delivered it and not installed it, saying they could not install until I had my dry-well emptied again due to water that had gathered in the month is was left open. They ended up leaving without installing the new lid and to this day, still remains covered with a wood panel. After all this, I finally get a bill for the new lid which to this time had not been communicated what the price of the new lid was. I was appalled to find the new lid was $225, not the quoted $100!!! For over a year, I've tried to get this reduced to what I was quoted and to not pay until it actually gets installed. Steigerwald refuses to budge on this price and will not acknowledge that it actually hasn't even been installed! I've even offered for them to pick up the new lid since it isn't installed and dismiss the bill, but I don't get a response, just a repeated bill! In the end, I don't trust this company's integrity or professionalism!!! I would not recommend them and will be going back to my old septic company!!!

Here's the story... For some time, my wife had noticed the utility sink her washer is connected to was taking longer to drain, but on last Tuesday the sink stopped draining. She called me to basement because the utility sink water was now rising from that drain into the basement. I knew the sink drain was one of the lasts connections to the main line feeding the septic tank so I knew we, until resolved, could not use any toilets, run water or take showers. I went to Angie's to get some names. Mr. Rooter I recalled was offering "clean any drain for $89" so I called. I learned that didn't include main lines, only included one plumber and didn't include some other ancillary fees. PLUS, they had to send an estimator to provide a quote and that couldn't be done till 7- 9pm that night. That means they would not be able to schedule the repair till Wednesday and that was not acceptable. So I went to the next major provider and continued to find that it didn't matter what I thought, nothing could be scheduled till Wednesday or later. But, My Plumber was helpful in suggesting a full septic tank could be the problem. I went out to the woods and checked to see the status. The tank was high but not the problem. The good news is I then checked septic companies and found Steigerwald, who I knew about, but did not know they did drain cleanout. I called and Lisa was fantastic. She listened, assessed and was sensitive to my emergency. She first called her crews to check their status and found they could adjust to be at my home within an hour or two. That was perfect. She then "learned me" as to their fees and competitive fees. I learned that their $200 per hour was for 2 plumbers, all necessary equipment and the only add-ons were a travel fee which is charged by most service companies but usually failed to be mentioned till a final bill. This was one of the Mr Rooter add-ons. Lisa then advised it would probably take 2-3 hours. I then knew it was a $400-$600 estimate I immediately said "let's go for it" and then shared something I learned years ago. All things, projects included, consist of 3 things, TIME to complete, COST to complete and the QUALITY of the project. You generally can only find 2 of the 3 and is very rare to find all 3 in one place or company. So, if you demand BEST QUALITY, what are you willing to give up, the time to complete or the price? In my case, TIME was first. I needed it done now so I knew it would be expensive or the quality could be suspect. The quote Lisa gave made sense and was still VERY competitive once I added all the others add-on fees hidden by the other companies. Well, I am pleased to say that the quality, professionalism was outstanding. It is rare I review something, but this is the exception. From Steigerwald I got ALL 3 and then some. Fast service, high quality and a reasonable fee! You may find their quote seems a "skootch" higher in some cases, but it is still very competitive and when you consider the TIME and QUALITY you get its a "no brainer". They are "family" owned and care about each customer. The job took just shy of 3 hours, travel included and they billed $500 which was right in line with the quote. I watched the whole job. No time was wasted. They called to advise when they were coming and left with all back in place. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others and will use them in the future if I or 1 of our rentals need a service they can provide.

The service person was out promptly at 8 am, however he never called ahead as they said he would. He was very pleasant and explained everything he had done, which I appreciate. I had been quoted $210 for this service. When I questioned the billed amount, which was $400 after the $10 Angie's List discount. It was explained to me that it was $400 because I have two tanks, but this was after the tanks were pumped, though the invoice said it was is for 1-1000 tank. I also inquired about the senior discount which wasn't reflected on my invoice. The service person said he could only bill what he was told. I had to call the company to argue the $10 senior discount and they mailed me a check. I know $10 is a drop in the bucket for a $400 service, but if something is advertised, it should be given without argument. If the technician wasn't authorized to change the bill, he should have called his office for authorization. I shouldn't have had to make the call.

Very professional from start to finish. Got next day appointment. Roy was prompt, polite, and professional. I would recommend!

Tom took video of our Sears washing machine to send to Sears, Sears reps had been to our home to evaluate the washer three times and insisted the machine was not leaking and causing flooding. After four months of frustrating poor service by SEARS, Tom helped us resolve it.

Steigerwald was recommended to us by our plumber . We received price estimates from Steigerwald and one other recommended company. Steigerwald was competitively priced and able to come out within a fairly quick time frame. They were efficient and professional and made recommendations for care of our septic system ongoing. We were pleased with thier service and would use them again.

Steigerwald Septic & Sewer was very responsive. But I wish I have gotten a couple of other opinions because it costed me a considerable amount more than I wanted to pay.

I've been a member of Angie's list for a very long time? It's saved me countless times from unscrupulous contractors or worse those who simply don't respect other people's time. I hate to leave this particular report because this guy is quite literally a neighbor of mine. Notwithstanding that, I'm going to leave a fair and accurate report. After 10 years I put my house on the market and buyer made an offer within a few weeks with several contingencies one of which that I pay for the septic inspections on the property. I've seen this companies trucks more times than I can count over the last decade and thought it was a no-brainer to give them a call and have them come over to do some preliminary work one morning before the county inspection. I called, left a message, and never heard anything back. Because I clearly identified myself as one of their neighbors I assumed that maybe something happened to the message. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called for a second time with the same result. A week has passed, I hired another company, and I still haven't heard from them. I'm sure this will get their attention and I'll get some long-winded response about how they are so busy etc. etc. etc.. Here's the bottom line... If you're selling your home or have any urgent matter do not call this company. I have no idea what the pricing is like, how polite their staff is, all I know is that they have not returned to phone calls and that jeopardized the contract on my house. Here's a piece of free advice... I called the top-rated company on Angie's list and they were fantastic. Read the report I left.

Here's the background - a new septic tank was installed by Steigerwald just prior to my purchase of the home in late 2011. Since then my dealings with them have been primarily maintenance issues. That said, they've been doing a great job. They did a very professional job installing the system and when there have been problems - for example, we think a deer may have stepped on the failsafe switch for the UV, causing the alarm to trigger. Steigerwald was there right away and took care of it. So far, after a year and a half I only have good things to say.

We called them for an estimate on a new septic system. They came out in a few days & said they would contact the health inspector to have a joint look at our system. I called a week later to make sure we were still on his intinerary. He said he would call back in a few days; never heard from him again. He seemed interested in the job,gave us literature on the new system., but evidently lost interest. Perhaps he learned via health department we found someone with knowledge of the system in place & knew how to make repairs.

Tom Steigerwald went out of his way to help us with the inspection of our septic system. We have used him to pump the tanks for many years and when we decided to sell out house, he made sure the system was ready to be inspected. The Geauga County septic inspector had some concerns about how our system was operating and he wanted us to dig up the leech field. Tom immediately sent someone over with a very high tech scope with a camera on it to show the inspector that that all the lines were clear. The inspector had never even see such a piece of equipment before and even he was impressed with the work being done by Steigerwald. The county inspection process can be very slow moving and having Steigerwald send someone to our house to meet with the inspector really saved the day for us. Since our house sold very quickly, any issues with the septic could have scared away our buyers. We were very pleased to be able to present the buyers with a report that showed the septic had been scoped and I'm sure they will use Steigerwald to maintain the system in the future. Tom is a really friendly guy and the worker he sent over to scope the system was very professional.

His name is Tom Steigerwald. It was pretty extensive work. He went above and beyond what he needed to do as far as I am concerned. He was always there. It took quite a while to get all the paperwork and the permits from the State. He did all that and kept in touch with us when it didn't happen right away. He just was always doing an excellent job. He even came home from his vacation early to check on the work that was being done on our property because he was worried about it. Most people wouldn't do that. He has guaranteed his work. There are some saddles in the ground and they will repair that this spring after the rain quits. He is very reliable and very responsible and wants people to be happy. He will come back just to tidy up the ground saddles. He even told us that if anyone else gets the property, he would come and teach them how to use the new system. He is very thorough.
