I discovered a leak in my basement library ceiling on 8/15/11 late evening. The leak had to have been there for a few days, because the ceiling tiles were soggy, water laden and falling apart due to moisture. I was very concerned that my computer, photo albums and other belongings that I stored in that area would be destroyed if the leak was not fixed right away. I sent an email to McHugh plumbing that same night and followed it with a phone call in the morning on 8/16./11. I never met Bob personally; however, he was very reassuring on the phone about getting the leak fixed right away. A service person was sent out within 2 hours ; he diagnosed the problem and fixed it there and then. Bob called me ( since I was at work) and kept me appraised me of the problem and the fix needed. There was an additional plumbing problem ( low water pressure in an upstairs bathroom) about which I had neglected to tell Bob. When I mentioned it to him over the phone, his service person who had left my home after completion of the basement job , returned promptly within 10 minutes to fix the second problem. I would recommend McHugh Plumbing without hesitation. They are courteous, professional, punctual and take ownership of the job that needs to be tackled.

Fortunately, McHugh's Plumbing agreed to look at my problem and fix it today. Specifically, Bob (who I later learned is the owner of the company) told me that he could stop by within a few short hours to help us. That was indeed true, and about exactly when he had said he could stop by, he did. He also told me upfront, to ensure that there would be no misunderstanding, of how much the service call would cost (as weekend emergencies, such as this situation, are a little bit more expensive than usual weekday / normal business hour service calls, but especially considering that it was a weekend/emergency call, the price was very reasonable, in my opinion). When Bob entered our house, he was very professional and friendly. Bob quickly figured out what was wrong with the filtration system, fixed it, reinstalled it under the kitchen sink, and also cleaned up any mess left behind (which was very little mess to begin with, but not all plumbers clean up after they are done working, but instead leave it for the customer to clean). Lastly, since I was happy with Bob's quality of service and workmanship, I asked him to look at a problem with a toilet on the second floor of the house. He explained the different options that were available to take care of the problem, but he gave me a thorough explanation of why I might want to consider one option over the other. He was very sincere and clearly demonstrated that taking care of our plumbing needs was his top priority. I would recommend McHugh's Plumbing service to anyone needing plumbing work, because the service is top notch, the price was very reasonable, and also the service appears to be very reliable (Bob kept in touch and called me when he was ready to leave where he was to drive over to my house, so I'd know when to expect him instead of my having to sit around and wait). Overall, if you are worried about finding the right plumber who will provide the best service at a very reasonable price, I would absolutely recommend McHugh's Plumbing Service to anyone. I only regret that I did not know McHugh's in the past.

It was a great experience. They were fair, honest, and did excellent work. We would definitely use them again.

This is the second time I've had to call out McHugh's Plumbing in a year. I was very pleased with the work done the first time and this recent work went just as well. After the initial estimate, it took a few days for Bob to juggle his busy schedule to get out to perform the work , but once here, the work was done quickly and professionally by Joe and his assistant. Please note that I did advise Bob McHugh that the work I needed done was not an emergency - as I had another bathroom we could use. I'm sure if I had insisted, Bob would have done his best to get out the same day. McHugh's seems to really go the extra mile to ensure you are pleased. The work is performed with as little intrusion as possible and any mess that is made is thoroughly cleaned up by the crew. Follow up calls are made after a few days to ensure you are still pleased with the job. Over the years, I've always called a different plumbers each time I was in need of a repair, simply because none ever really stood out. With McHugh's, I won't have to hunt around again. They will be my only call whenever I am in need of a plumbing service.

Bob and his crew arrived promptly and did an extremely fine job of installing the plumbing. He communicates very well and there were no surprises. Bob is very knowledgable with regard to product choices and recommended and installed exactly what we wanted. We have used McHugh Plumbing several times in the past on an emergency basis and have been extremely pleased with their work.

My overall experience with McHugh's Plumbing was pleasant.. I am a senior citizen and prayed for someone that I could trust to perform these repairs. Dan explained everything that that he was going to do. Some of the things I understood and some of them I didn't. I told him that I had to trust what he said and he and McHugh were honest people. Please refer to the previous paragraph for other details.

Quality work. Professional. I felt the quotes for replacing the faucets and drains were high compared to work I have had performed by others in the past. I think Bob is very knowledgeable and if I had a complex or perplexing plumbing issue, I would be confident that he could figure it out and fix it properly. For basic plumbing issues, I may not choose him because of price.

Bob responded quickly to my email and we set an appointment for the following Friday. Bob phoned to inform me that his morning appointment was more complicated than anticipated and asked to reschedule, which I agreed to do - I understand that things come up. Bob phoned the following Tuesday and offered to come out Wednesday, late morning. I agreed to that time and he immediately reneged. He needed to make some calls to see if he could rearrange some things. When he called back, he asked whether he could instead come in an hour. That was not terribly convenient, but I figured I had better get him in the house while I could so I agreed. A few minutes later, he called to say he really needed to get a HAIRCUT but that he was sending one of his guys to evaluate the situation. Dan arrived shortly thereafter and began troubleshooting our pressure issue. Dan was professional and knowledgeable, and I felt comfortable having him in my home (a good thing because he and I had to shoot the breeze for a while waiting for Bob). The three of us examined the hot water tank and discussed replacement options. Bob also looked at my plumbing set up under my kitchen sink and in my laundry room and gave input on future renovations I was planning. Bob and Dan answered all of my questions and then prepared a written quote to replace my well pump and gas water heater. They were knowledgeable, the price was fair and so I called the same day and asked to schedule the work. Bob asked if he could call me between 7:30 and 8:00 the next morning to set up a time. I waited until 10:30AM for the call that never came and then decided to find someone who thought my time was valuable too. In hindsight, I should have canceled when Bob called to tell me his haircut was more important than his appointment with me. June 17, 2011 Update - After communicating my dissatisfaction to Bob McHugh, he promptly sent a full refund for the service call and diagnostic work. I wish the overall experience had been better but am satisfied with his response.

Great folks. This is the second time that I have used them. Very prompt and courteous. Bob (the owner) is super !

Overall, the experience has been fantastic. I've had all kinds of plumbing work done by this company, and it's always great: hot water tank installed, new valves installed, etc. I can't say enough good things about Bob. He's very meticulous, thorough, and when the technicians arrive they are always conscientious. I've been using them for about 5 or 6 years. I'm happy with their service and I would highly recommend them to others.

We had another plumber out who cleared a clog on a Saturday, but left us with a leak under the sink, and claimed that the only way to fix said leak was to rip our vanity out and replace the pipe going in to the wall to the tune of $500. This would have also either required a major bathroom remodel (which the first plumber was pushing) or living with screwed up tile until we could afford to fix it. Clearly, we wanted a second opinion before spending the money and getting into something major like this. I found Bob on Angie's List, and after reading the reviews decided to give him a call. Told Bob during the initial call that we found him on Angie's and let him know what our situation was, and he took our info and scheduled a time to come out and take a look. We didn't really use the sink much in the 2 days between the call and his visit because we weren't sure how serious the leak was. However, the few times we did use the sink, we noted water dripping from one area into a bowl we had placed there at the first plumber's suggestion. When Bob arrived, the sink was no longer leaking. He spent 15-20 minutes running the water, filling the sink and draining it, etc. and found nothing. Therefore, he said he would not recommend doing anything since there was no leak present at the time he was here. He advised us to use the sink again regularly and watch the area that had been leaking for a few days, and if something occurred then we should call. I found this to be very honest. He could have sold me a $500 pipe replacement job like the first guy quoted me and I wouldn't have known any better, but he did not. He also told us when he first looked under the sink that he would NOT have to remove the vanity to do the repair that we were told we would need. In addition to the bathroom sink issue, we also showed him a few areas in the basement that need work and he gave us some estimates. Finally, we discussed a bathroom remodel with him. He gave us some rough numbers and also recommended someone who he works with to do some carpentry and other work that will need done if we decide to remodel. I felt that he was very honest and fair - he didn't even charge us a service call. Thanked us for giving him a chance to come out and do business with us. As it turns out, through conversation it turns out that he has worked for several of my friends...and in talking to 2 of them, they were very pleased with work that he actually did at their homes. Aside from Angie's reviews, I was glad to hear good reviews from people who I actually know and trust. Hoping to call him back out shortly to complete at least some of the projects we discussed with him...if not all of them. We will see what the budget allows. Anyhow, he's really a nice guy and very straightforward. We appreciate that he took the time with us. Thanks again. Look forward to working with you in the future.

My water pressure powered back up sump pump failed on Monday morning. It was under warranty for parts but not for labor. On that same day they replaced the pump with a new one and did not charge for labor. They also installed a water pressure reducing valve. The plumber behaved in a totally professional way and left the work area was totally clean when he left. The process could not have gone better.

They did a very nice job. The owner was not happy with the work that was done so he came back and redid it himself; I was very impressed with this. His pricing was in the middle of our estimates but we knew he did good work so that is why we chose him. I requested he salvaged some of the hardware and he was able to do so.

McHugh Plumbing is an excellent company. Very responsive to need, knowledgeable, capable in handling problems and they care about their customers.

I could not be happier with McHugh Plumbing! It's not an easy situation seeing water slowly rising in your basement and no sump pump or backup working during a major snow thaw! But since I has used them before to replace my original pump, I had no hesitation on calling them again. They're professional, prompt, and very understanding. I won't call any other plumbing company.

I feel so safe having them in my home and they are complete gentleman. They explain everything to you, what they are doing, why it needs to be done and shows you the parts. They put it in laymen terms so you can understand it as well. They even call you back within a month of the job to make sure everything is still going well.

Joe arrived as scheduled and immediately went to work. He recalled details from his visit 3 months earlier, displaying great personal skills. I have no qualms with his being in the house with my wife, even if I am not home. He is very conscientous and works quickly to resolve plumbing problems quickly and efficiently - this time to fix a leaky pipe under the kitchen sink and make sure the ice maker line is ready for a new fridge. He is extremely competent and a great representative for McHugh's Plumbing!

Called Bob McHugh, described the situation, and he came out promptly the next morning. Bob diagnosed the faucet problem and repaired it. Although the faucet was of 1955 vintage, Bob had all parts needed for the repair. While examining the basement plumbing, he discovered a gas leak at a joint attached to the hot water tank, and proceeded to repair it and to also extend the relief valve pipe to comply with code. All the work was done promptly and was of high quality. Bob is very honest and knowlegeable. It was a pleasure to see such a true professional. I would not hesitate to contact him again for future work.

The work was excellent and he was very professional. I would definitely use him again. He came on time, stayed until the job was finished and did excellent work. He was very good at suggesting options to fix things.

Bob McHugh and his partner Joe arrived promply and began to diagnose the problem. After determining that I indeed had a blockage in the sanitary sewer system, and since there was no easy access inside my home, he hand dug a hole outside to gain access to the sump pump and sewer pipe discharge. After accomplishing this, and in bitterly cold conditions, both he and Joe began "snaking" the drain. After using the entire 135 feet of snake they had, he had not reached the blockage. Instead of stopping without being successful, Bob twice found additional cable from suppliers and purchased it to extend the length to finally reach and clear the blockage which was 175 feet from the house. Without his perseverance, my sanitary sewer may still be blocked. What he expected to be a routine sewer cleaning turned out to be a day-long project in extremely cold conditions. After the job was complete, he restored the hole he dug, cleaned up, and submitted a bill that was certainly fair and reasonable. I would highly recommend McHugh's Plumbing and if I need plumbing or sewer work done in the future, I now know that there is someone to call that is reputable and honest.

The install went as planned, except that when one of the two toilets was removed, the flange had completely disintegrated and it was replaced. Both plumbers worked until the job was finished. I will use McHugh Plumbing again, and I recommend them. I trust Bob McHugh's advice and appreciate his professionalism.

Tree roots in the sewer line had blocked our drains. We had water backing up into our basement. We called McHugh's on Tuesday 11/30/10, on Wednesday 12/01/10 Bob came to our home at the end of normal business hours. He was professional, knowledgeable and treated us as if we were his first customers of the day. Thank you Bob for accomodating our work schedule and performing the needed cleaning!
