I was very pleased with the work performed. The owner was out of town when the work was done but assured me his brother would complete the work and was very good. I agree with him. The work was done in a very timely and professional way. After the work was completed the owner called me to see if I was satisfied which I told him I was very satisfied and asked if there was anything else he could do for me. I will definitely call him when I need any future plumbing work done.
Description of Work: Replaced outside faucets front and back yard. Also replaced all cutoff valves in basement.

They snaked out a blockage that was built up over the years that was over 45 feet from the drain. They had to work through numerous right angles to complete. They also installed a drain vent and aerator in quick time. A very professional, courteous experience. They even took into account of a death in the family and said they would come back to perform various other services at a more convenient time as the addtional items I wanted done were not hindering the kitchen from being used at the moment.
Description of Work: Bob McHugh was at our home on time as promised and after evaluating the problem and thoroughly explaining what needed to be done He and Larry took care of the kitchen drain line blockage.

We had a back-up of waste water in our basement due to clogged sewer drain. I called McHugh's based on a very good rating on the list. I was not disappointed. They showed up the next day, on time, and performed the work as described. They performed some trouble-shooting to determine where the blockage existed, and then snaked the identified area very well. PROBLEM SOLVED! They were very professional, clearly explained what they were doing, and provided some suggestions on how to reduce the potential blockage in the future (the house is about 100 years old and the blockage was due to tree roots in the main sewer line running to the street). They were efficient and cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend them highly to others.

Everything went smooth, very professional, prompt and clean. Would highly recommend
Description of Work: The kitchen drain blocked Saturday morning 12-22-12, hours before a christmas party was to start. I was unable to clear the blockage..called several plumbers with no luck. McHugh's called me back and was available to help. Within 2 hrs the drain was cleared and a blockage farther out (which I couldn't reach) was taken care of. Very professional, prompt..and reasonably priced for a weekend emergency call. I would highly recommend to anyone needing a plumber.

Had a bad leak happening due to a clogged main sewer pipe. Called Mr. McHugh and he was able to diagnose over the phone. Since it was an emergency, he scheduled to come out first thing the next day. Snaked the main drain. (Lots of tree roots in there.) And it works great now. Even called him back to do the storm sewers too.

The bathtub wasn't draining properly and the toilet wasn't filling up with water completely after flushing. I called McHugh's on a Sunday afternoon and the owner, Bob, answered. I asked him if someone could come out the following day, and he said yes. He said someone would be at the house between 9:00am and 9:15am. Dan arrived at 9:05am. He was very friendly and professional. He was able to quickly assess the situation and explained that there was a sewer blockage problem, which was causing the flushed toilet water to backup into the tub. (Ick.) The toilet wasn't filling because it needed new parts. He gave me a written quote, with 3 different options: 1) fix the toilet for $140 2) buy a new toilet for $375 or 3) buy a newer toilet for $744. I went with option #2. Dan went out and got the new toilet while another McHugh employee, Larry, brought the sewer snake machine over. Due to our older home, the pipes weren't exactly standard, so it took a couple of hours to snake. (Which isn't as long as it's taken other companies to do.) They got it all snaked out and working, and installed the new toilet, hauling away the other one. The total project took around 5 hours, due to our screwy pipes, purchasing the new toilet and getting the snake machine over here. For all of that work, time and effort, the price was phenomenal. Dan and Larry were great and very kind. I will definitely use McHugh's in the future.
Description of Work: The McHugh team removed the toilet, snaked the drain, andput in a brand new toilet.

New to area, so joined Angie's list to find and research contractors needed for new house. Based on reviews here, called McHugh?s and left message. Bob McHugh promptly called me back, and we set a time the following week for work. I appreciated his professional, detailed and direct communication from the first phone call all the way to the explanation of work performed during the service call. He and Dan were able to diagnose and fix the leak on same visit. They had to crawl through an access panel in garage attic to get to tub pump and plumbing. I would definitely recommend McHugh plumbing if you want quality work and excellent communication regarding who, when, what and how your work will be done. This is how contractors should be! Well done!

I will only go with Bob McHugh for future plumbing service! He's very professional, communicates extremely well, does excellent work correctly THE FIRST TIME. My driveway was clogged. I previously had the Plumbing Source come out and try to clear the drain. They tried and couldn't clear the blockage. They told me i must have a broken pipe and that my driveway would have to be torn up to get to the broken pipe. I just had the new concrete driveway put in over the summer. I then called Bob McHugh to get a second opinion. I discussed what the previous guys had tried with Bob. We told me he felt confident that he could solve the problem. Bob kept in constant touch with regards to scheduling the job. He showed up on time and had clearly superior equipment to get the job done. Bob was extremely professional and courteous. In my invoice, he even included a quote for future maintenance and also the information I should get from the city with regards to location of storm test tees for cleaning. Bob prices we're much more competitive and he ACTUALLY fixed the problem. Excellent Value. Reliable Service. True Professional. This is the only guy you need for your Plumbing needs!
Description of Work: Clogged Driveway Drain. 1) Pump out water surrounding driveway catch basin drain and snake line 105 feet. 2) Line opened at 105 feet. 3) Flushed system and verifed flow. 3) Water could be heard in very front downspout just left of front door. 4) Snaked line to street main. Snake front line approx 65 feet.

I got quotes from McHugh's and the plumbing company that did the plumbing when the house was built. Both quotes were very close in price. I went with McHugh's because they have done work for us before and we have been very happy with their work. I called Bob and we agreed to do it sometime Thanksgiving week. His crew came over and installed the new system. They did a neat job and cleaned up after themselves. When they were done they explained how the system worked and how to maintain it.

Bob first came to repair the garage faucet. He found that there was debris in the line near that faucet and worked to clear it. In the process of doing so, he noticed that the water pressure seemed high, so he checked it to confirm. We were at about 90 lb. of pressure at that faucet (which is some distance from the meter), versus the norm of about 70 lb. He asked whether we've experienced a lot of toilet valve failures. We have -- AND we're on our third kitchen faucet in 7 years. He explained that early failures are often indicative of water pressure that's too high. I showed him where the meter is in the basement, and he described what it would take to get into the wall near the meter, install the regulator and then install an access panel. He promised he would leave it looking good. I scheduled the appointment for about a week later. In the interim, we moved our washer and dryer so that the laundry room could be painted, and discovered that the shut-off valve for the washer was leaking. Since the hoses were never disconnected until we needed to paint, we hadn't noticed it before; but it was dripping quite a bit. I let Bob know that we had this additional problem, and asked whether he might be able to come right back to do just the washer valve so that my husband wouldn't have to move the washer and dryer twice. Bob tried his best to get back here the next day, but all of his guys were booked solid and he was running from job site to job site. He called me when he realized he wasn't going to make it that day, but rather than pressure him, I advised him that our previously scheduled appointment would be fine. Two of Bob's employees reported for duty at the scheduled time. Both were very friendly and professional. They set right to work, one on the washer valve and one on the pressure regulator. They cleaned up the two work areas upon completion. Everything was completed to my husband's satisfaction. The water pressure in the house is definitely lower; we're hoping to see a pay-off in fewer failed faucet$ and toilet valve$ in the future. I hadn't asked for written quotes on either job, since I've used McHugh's a few times in the past; I trust Bob and his company's workmanship. Their invoice seemed reasonable, all things considered; there's no such thing as a cheap plumber, and I would really wonder about the skill of one who was :) We will continue to hire Bob for any future plumbing issues we may have.
Description of Work: Rebuilt frost-free garage faucet, cleared line of debris. Installed pressure regulator on incoming water line. Replaced shut-off valve on washer hook-up. Replaced rubber washer hoses with stainless steel.

How did it go overall? It didn't "go" ... at all !! I called McHugh's Plumbing around dinner time on Sunday, during their advertised work hours, and explained my emergency. Yes, it's a holiday weekend (but it's the weekend, and not the holiday), and they state 24 hour emergency service on Angie's List, and their own website says " we are available 24/7 and on holidays". I waited for a while but I didn't hear back (even to say they couldn't come out) so I eventually made other calls. One professional company returned my call within 10 minutes to say they had a lot of emergencies and couldn't accept another call that night, and another company responded, within 15 minutes and came out that evening - happily and professionally. Mr. McHugh did eventually return my call but not until the next morning. He had been out of town for a few days and returned at 11:00pm the previous evening, and was tired. Everyone is entitled to a vacation, but if this was a professional company and the owner (only employee?) chose to go away for a few days without checking messages, the right thing to do would be to arrange for someone to cover the work, or say something on their answering machine message to let people know they were unavailable for a few days, but this didn't happen. Both of the other companies I called know how a good company does business, keeps customers, and maintains positive reviews on Angie's List. McHugh's advertises availablilty 24/7 with 24 hour emergency service, but doesn't actually do what he advertises. Do you really want to depend on a company like this?
Description of Work: No service performed - the company didn't respond to phone calls. If a company lists weekend and evening hours, and says they do emergency service, I would expect them to be available weekends and evening hours, and return a phone call for an emergency, expecially a call made during their stated business hours. Apparently it's not important to McHugh's Plumbing to do what they advertise.

Working with Bob McHugh and his crew is a pleasure. I'm happy to finally be able to say "yeah, I know a plumber you should call!"
Description of Work: The drain in our master bath shower sprang a leak and water was coming through the kitchen ceiling. McHugh's came out to replace the trap and reseal the drain. They were careful to make as small an opening in the ceiling as they could, and they did a nice clean job on the repair. They even suggested a great plaster guy to come and repair the ceiling! We were so impressed with their work, responsiveness, and professionalism that we've since had them come back for other small projects.

Bob and his team were very professional. Bob explained the drainage & the septic system to me as I am not that knowledgeable re such. They were neat, left everything clean, and did not high pressure. It is such a pleasure to have everything in working order. We always rely on Angie's List & were very, very happy with McHugh's Plumbing. We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: A new water heater was installed. A new faucet was installed in laundry room as well as PVC replacing old pipes. Kitchen faucet had poor pressure, and drainage was very slow so drain cleaning was needed as well as new parts in faucet. A new soap dispenser was also installed.

It took quite a while to get them to my house to give me an estimate. Once work was scheduled it was done promptly and efficiently. The were a few problems a couple of months after installation (not caused by their work or the unit), and again it was difficult to get them to come out, but once they were there the problem was corrected. It seems that they are very busy and so timing coordination is frequently a problem.

Thanks for the business! My crews were all on call for the post-holiday Thanksgiving weekend. The total repair on this job included snaking a kitchen sink drain many times with both a 25 and 50 foot electric snake cable to unclog, as well as a PVC drain repair. The PVC drain my crew found was a fitting that was never glued properly and would have resulted in a future leak and service visit if left undetected. This was actually a cost savings for the customer because he will not have to pay for a return visit and repair down the road. We appreciate the work. Thank you. What a story this is. I've been having problems with my main sewer line for about a year. We finally got to the point where we needed an outside clean out installed and needed the line cleaned out once and for all. Bob Mchugh arrived on time and ready to get to the bottom of the issue. He listened to our issues and I had pictures to show him of the plumbing runs in the house. He said the sewer was blocked and got to work. The only clean out we had was in the house, in a master bedroom closet (house is a ranch, on a slab foundation). Bob covered all the carpets with tarps to protect it from his machine coming in and during the cleaning process. He snaked the main line as far as he could until he hit something that he couldn't get past. He said we needed to have a camera put down the line. I didn't see any value in it but Bob said that would answer many questions about what's going on down there. I went ahead with it. He got the camera as far as he could but couldn't see what the blockage was. We were able to locate the line outside with the camera as far as it had gotten. The worry was that the line had collapsed at the exit of the house and that might mean a big big to repair it. The next step in this process was to install a clean out. Bob and his crew dug up the line. The cut the top of the clay pipe open and there was a huge root mass in the line. Was that what he had hit? Keep reading, it gets better. They cut the clay pipe off the iron pipe and farther down the line. They snaked to the street and ran the camera to the street. All was clear. Turned the snake toward the house and Bob hit something. Put the camera in and there was an expansion plug (used for testing the lines when the house was built) in the line. It was in there sideways, it could move and twist. It was what the snake was hitting. How were we going to get that out. It had to get outta there, it was blocking the flow. Bob got a 10 ft piece of 1/2 inch PEX pipe, put a 90 degree fitting on it and attempted to hook the plug out of there. It worked but wasn't getting very far. We then flattened the 90 degree fitting so it might hook the plug better, that was not much better. Then I had an idea to use a magnet on the end of the pipe. Took several tries but the magnet worked and the line is wide open now. Bob still has the magnet pipe in his truck too. They finished up the install of the clean out, tested the flow and back filled the hole. A job well done. If you need a plumber, call Bob McHugh. He'a one of the best plumbers I've used in years.
Description of Work: Mchugh's snaked the main sewer line from the interior clean out as far out as possible. They then ran a camera down the sewer to find the issue. My house needed an outside clean out. McHugh's dug up the line and installed a clean out. They also snaked the line to the street and into the house. The used the camera in the line in both directions. They back filled the hole and cleaned up.
