Fine. The plumber arrived to assess the situation, left to buy the appropriate parts at a supply house, took out the old parts and installed the new parts. Both jobs worked well.

Very well. My wife noticed our leaking water heater around noon on Friday and called McHugh's. By mid-afternoon Bob McHugh arrived, assessed the situationand gave us an estimate, which we accepted. That evening a new water heater was dropped off outside. By 9am Sat. morning, another plumber arrived to disconnect the old water heater, then another plumber arrived to help carry out the old heater, bring in the new one and connect it. By late Sat. morning, we had hot water again.

I was called before the scheduled time to let me know he could come earlier if I wished. When he got here he did an inspection of the toilets and let me know my options, and gave me the information I needed to make a decision. I chose to replace the toilets and he was able to get it done the same day. There were one to three people on the job and it seemed to go very smoothly. The few problems had been mentioned as possibilities earlier, so there were no surprises. They job was done with great professionalism and they cleaned up after themselves when they were done. The invoice was as discussed earlier. They also included an estimate for another problem I knew about that they saw when working. I couldn't believe I had so much done in so short a time with so little disruption in the household. I will be having them come back to do more work, and will be happy to know I can depend on them to do it well.
Description of Work: I had them come to repair or replace two toilets.

I was very confident my recommendation would save her years of maintenance on older, original equipment. We replaced two toilets with a trusted brand. We installed new valves and hardware as we do with all installations. I am sure that these new fixtures are going to be great for our customer for a long time. It was a pleasure working with her as well. Bob McHugh McHugh Plumbing Inc.

We had a leaking/burst pipe in the ceiling over first-floor mudroom started around 7pm, from one of the pipes to a second-floor bathroom. The shutoff valves were corroded and could not be turned off to stop flow of water so the main valve to the house had to be shut off, leaving us with no water at all in the house. I left a message with Bob McHugh around 9:15PM and he returned my call about a half-hour later. After discussing the situation with him, we decided that the best course of action was to replace the faulty valves initially and then complete the repair at a later date once the leaking pipe could be easily accessed. They were unable to get a repairman out that night which was not an issue because it was not really an emergency situation. Bob promised me that he would have someone would be out first thing in the morning. The following morning he told me that a plumber would be there by 9AM and he was true to his word. I explained the situation to the plumber, Steve, and showed him where the valves were. He made a call to Bob, advised me of a quoted price for the job and, after getting my approval, gathered his tools and went to work. Steve quickly removed the old valves and then waited for Bob to arrive with the new ones. When Bob got there, it took about five minutes to install them and the job was done. The most important things to me were that Bob was very good with his communication, and that they were punctual and efficient with their time. We were leaving to go out of town that morning and had to leave by a certain time, so it was very important that they arrived on time and got the work done quickly, both of which they did. I've marked the price column as "N/A" only because I needed the work done in a short time frame and did not get multiple quotes for the job. It's not a reflection, either positive or negative, on the price that they charged me to do the job.
Description of Work: McHugh's replaced a pair of corroded and non-functioning water valves and offered to waive their service fee to return at a later date to finish the repair once the leaking pipe could be made accessible.

We had tried ourselves. My husband is very handy, so I knew if we couldn't do it, we really needed a plumber. They worked very quickly and left the area very clean. The sink clog occurred 2 days before Christmas and it meant I could not get needed cooking done! McHugh's work late that evening to get to our house.

I was impressed with how quickly Bob responded given how busy I am sure they have been due to the cold weather. The price was very fair since it was a Saturday. Several other companies wanted to charge us double because of the weather and take advantage the situation. Very professional and the pipe was fixed quickly.

Went very well. McHugh's installed a tankless hot water system in place of 2 separate hot water tanks (one electric in the kitchen and one gas in the attic) the week before Christmas. They had to connect the plumbing to the new system and cap off the old plumbing and remove both of the old hot water tanks. I'm sure it was a much more involved project than I can detail but they completed it in one day, cleaned up after themselves, and were very professional. Also, when we awoke with no cold water due to frozen pipes on Jan 7, 2014, we called McHugh's, even though we knew it had nothing to do with the hot water tank, and despite their being overwhelmed with service calls, Bob spoke to us and gave us suggestions to try and prevent the pipes from bursting. That evening when we had water coming through our ceiling we called again and were again able to speak to Bob who agreed the furnace and water needed to be turned off until he could get to our house to figure out what, if anything could be done. He determined it was the condensation line from our furnace that had frozen (in addition to some pipes) so he put in a temporary condensation line so that we could turn our furnace on again. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Description of Work: Installed a tankless hot water system & replaced an outside faucet. Later, disconnected frozen condensation line on furnace and re-routed temporarily.

All of the guys, Bob, Dan and Steve, were very respectful, polite and pleasant. They kept all of the dirt, clay and broken up concrete in a very confined area. It was amazing how so much work was done, and there wasn't any mess left afterwards. They were very responsive to all of my questions. There was no slacking off - they got right on it and worked non-stop, and their concern to leave my basement looking better that when they arrived was GREATLY appreciated. I can't say enough good things about them. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: There was a sewage odor in my basement. They came out and ran a camera through the lines and discovered that, although there were no breaks in the line, there were no traps in any of the three, basement floor drains. They capped off two non-functional drains with cement. For the main basement drain, they broke up the concrete floor, installed a trap, replaced drain lines from stationary tub and poured new concrete floor. They also snaked the line to the street.

I called at 1:20 on Tuesday afternoon because I had a leak coming through the light in my shower stall. The receptionist at McHugh Plumbing told me she would relay the message and someone would call me back. Bob McHugh called back at 1:35 and said he was busy, had one truck down, but would get back to me in a few hours. At 5:30 I called McHugh's plumbing and told the receptionist I was still waiting to hear from someone. I asked if someone was going to be sent out and wanted to find out where I stood. She apologized that no one called me back and "promised" that either she, or Bob would call me back within the hour. NO ONE CALLED. I called the next morning and the receptionist apologized and said he should be able to come out that day, Wednesday. I called again during my lunch to see if she knew how the schedule looked. She said by the time I got off work. At 5:35 Bob called and asked if I still needed him to come out. He was in my driveway by 5:45. He opened the ceiling of my shower to find a spray of water coming from a coupling on the hot water line. He said it would be $335.00. I went upstairs to call my son who felt I was being taken advantage of. I called someone else to find that McHugh's price was "HIGH". I asked Bob why it cost so much and he told me it was an "Emergency Call". I told him I called 1:30 the previous afternoon. He didn't return my call and came out the next day at 5:45 and I have to pay $150.00 service call instead of $75.?? He didn't tell me on the phone or when he walked in the door that it was going to be an "emergency call". He also charged me more for labor because he said he brought two trucks on the job and had to pay for the other plumber he brought with him! It clearly was a one man job! I asked why I had to pay for him having two trucks in my driveway? He entered my house at 5:55 and was writing out the invoice by 6:25, out the door at 6:30. He repaired the part of the pipe that was leaking but, the whole experience was very frustrating. I disagreed with what he was charging and he said he would take the parts, that he put in, out as he felt the charge was valid. I told him to go ahead. He started to walk downstairs and then said he didn't want me to be without water. We agreed on $200.00. Needless to say, I would never call him again or recommend his services to anyone else.
Description of Work: Opened the ceiling in my basement shower stall to uncover a leak in a coupling on the hot water line to the shower. He replaced a six inch section of copper pipe using a piece of new copper and two couplings.

I make no excuses for not calling a customer back. While working in the field on these 3-4 sub zero temp. days, I could not put the phone down before it rang again. I tracked over 180 calls from Tuesday a.m. through Friday Morning with homeowners that had frozen, or burst pipes. If this customer did not get a call back, I do apologize. We did a great job of staying in touch with all the service requests and I do regret if I missed this one.

We moved into a new house with our gas dryer, but the hookups were for an electric. In the basement, the gas line ran the length of the house and had a "T" where a gas dryer could be added. After waiting for 2 days for another company to come give an estimate and being told it would be another day, I gave up on them and turned to Angie's List where I found Mc Hugh's. Bob called me right back and told me he would do what he could to work me in. His office kept me informed and even called the morning of to let me know they were on their way. The guys were great and so was the price. Will definitely keep their number.

After getting a huge water bill, we knew that we needed someone to check various lines throughout the house. On 11/8/2013, Bob came on time to give me an estimate. He was honest about what needed repair and what did not. He called for prices on things he would need, like the faucet, right in front of me. We scheduled a day for the work. Bob's estimate of the time it would take was accurate. The work was done thoroughly. He is the first plumber that we have ever had that we would hire again.

Bob returned my call within a half hour, on a Sunday. Explained the problem and he said he would try and see if he could work me in to Monday's schedule. Tom & Brian arrived promptly as scheduled the next day. WOW! They did some testing of the drains, located the problem and promptly snaked the drain line. They wore booty overshoes in the house and cleaned up before they left. Great work! I would use and recommend them without hesitation. Thank you Bob, Tom and Brian.

This was our first service call from this company. Robert McHugh arrived within the 2-hour timeframe scheduled. He completely checked out the fireplace and explained each feature to us and how to properly operate it. To get additional information about the fireplace's operation, he Googled the manufacturer and attempted to contact them by phone, but was unsuccessful. We appreciated the attempt. We also inquired about a ballpark estimate of the type of work and the cost of extending a gas line to our kitchen in order to change out our electric range/oven to a gas appliance. He provided this after checking our gas source location and did NOT begin any kind of high-pressure bid to go ahead with such a project. (This is always a concern with such inquiries, but we felt no pressure at all to proceed or even follow up.) Robert's work on the fireplace created some dust/grit on the hearth and he wanted to clean it up, which we declined. It was clear that this is a usual part of Robert's work -- leaving no mess behind. Robert himself was very professional and we're sure that we would call McHugh's Plumbing in the future for any service needs.
Description of Work: Checked the gas fireplace for us as new owners of a 7-year-old condo, to ensure safety and explain operation and maintenance. Incidentally provided rough estimate of potential change from electric to gas oven/range.

I hired McHugh's plumbing to fix my toilet about a year ago, and everything went well. Then, I wanted them to install a new kitchen sink, so I called the receptionist and set up an appointment for Monday, September 30th at 5:30. Bob never showed, so I called him to see what the problem was. It turned out the receptionist never notified him of the appointment, so we had to reschedule for Tuesday. Off to a bad start. He came Tuesday and was very professional. He said he would email an estimate, but we never got it! So I emailed him to see if he just forgot. No response! Apparently, our job isn't big enough, so we're looking elsewhere.

Bob McHugh and his staff provide excellent, timely, and professional service. He is always willing to make an extra effort for his customers. He or one of his staff has been available promptly on a regular basis through many years, with a few plumbing problems along the way. I continue to use McHugh's Plumbing for all my plumbing needs.
Description of Work: I have used McHugh's Plumbing for a number of maintenance and repair plumbing jobs over the past 8 years. Most recently, we needed to replace a leaking outdoor faucet and install and filtration system for the well water that has a significant reddish (probably copper and iron) color and content.
