The initial visit was an after hours emergency situation and Jason was here within an hour of being called to stop the leak. He was very personable and professional and did quality work. He also provided an estimate for additional work to replace the lines. The next day the receptionist Ginny called to schedule the work for 13 days later. Matt arrived to complete the sink issue, he knew exactly what was needed and did a quality job. A few weeks after the sink work was complete Ginny called to follow-up on our satisfaction with the job and if we had any issues with the repair. We told her everything was perfect and then asked for an estimate for the replacement of all the valves and spigots in our house as they were all original (greater than 65 years old). An appointment was made to review what needed to be done and get an estimate. Bob arrived, reviewed the job and gave an estimate on the spot. Ginny called the next day to schedule the work. The valve and spigot replacements were done by Tom and Brian and they also did quality work. About 10 days after the job was complete Bob called to follow-up on how the job went and if we had any issues with the replacements. Everything went extremely well. We were very happy with the work that was performed by McHugh's Plumbing. The arrive on time, do quality work and clean up afterward. Everyone that we dealt with was personable and professional (receptionist-Ginny, plumbers-Jason, Matt, Tom, Brian and the owner-Bob). Even though we dealt with 4 different plumbers plus Bob (the boss) to get the work completed everyone was on the same page and knew exactly what was needed. We always received a call the day before to confirm all appointments and the follow-up call shows how much this company values customer satisfaction.
Description of Work: Fixed a leak in the wall for our 1st floor lavatory sink and replaced and repositioned the water lines so they were no longer running down the outside wall. Also, replaced 15 old (from 1949) defective valves and spigots including outdoor spigots.

We had another company (NOT McHugh's Plumbing) out to look at this issue (sent by the home warranty company) and they were terrible! The guy barely looked at the problem and he had us believing our issue would require major deconstruction just to get to the leaky pipe. After worrying about this major construction for a couple months, I decided to use Angie's List and get a second opinion. I contacted Bob (owner of McHugh's Plumbing) and he sent one of his technicians to our house within a couple days. Long story short, two hours after the technician arrived our leak was fixed! No major deconstruction and minimal cost. Best of all, the technician was very nice and acted very professionally! All my correspondence with Bob (prior to the appointment) was also very professional and timely. I highly recommend McHugh's Plumbing. I now consider them to be 'my' plumber and I will not look elsewhere the next time I need work done (which I hope is not very often).

All phases of this repair from initial contact with the owner, conversation with scheduler and work done by Brian and Tom exceeded expectations. We were concerned that we might have a costly problem with our sewer line, but Brian assured us this was not the case. While he was at our house, we asked about a couple of bothersome plumbing issues, which he repaired quickly. Both Brian and Tom are professional and polite. We have done work with McHugh's Plumbing before and will definitely turn to them with any plumbing problem in the future.
Description of Work: Correctly and quickly diagnosed an issue we thought might be more complex and costly than it actually was. In addition, at our request, repaired two leaks in half bath toilet and utility tub. Worked for an hour and a half.

I made an appt. with Mchughs Plumbing and they were out in a timely manner. They repaired the leak on my water tank, and checked my other pipes to make sure they were ok. I have used this company before and they get the job done right the first time. We will hire them again.

They came out and gave an estimate, seemed professional. They said they did not have the parts to fix a leaking faucet, they would get the parts and call when they would be coming back out. We never heard from them. Sent message through Angie's list with no response. I feel they did not want to do this job and that is fine but at least call and let us know.

In response to the report. The homeowner had to originally cancel our first appt due to a schedule conflict. I personally went to the job site and reviewed the work. The Kohler shower fixture that was failing is no longer manufactured. I should have relayed the information quicker to the customer. The other problem was that the color of the faucet (polished brass) was no longer made in that fixture. I will at least follow through with a phone call to apologize for the delay. Bob was very personable, seemed very knowledgeable, and he was very prompt in coming out to give an estimate on a Thursday. He said he would get back to us over or after the weekend. However we never heard back from him after his visit. Perhaps he lost the information. Or maybe he did not want the job. We could have called him back but felt that no call-back or quote was a red flag for us. Too bad, we liked Bob and looked forward to his quote. Very good reviews on this site, and Bob's friendliness, make me hope our experience was just an anomaly. I really don't want to give a negative review, but I can't give a positive one either.

Very professional and polite. It was a joy working with McHugh's. I had been having issues with water in my basement. Thus we contacted McHugh's to have the storm drains inspected and cleared. Before arriving they called to inform me of their arrival time. Showed up when they said they would and began inspection of drains after explaining possible sources of issue. Ultimately, it turns out that the storm drain was fine and didn't need cleared. Bob explained the storm drain system at my house and was very honest in providing services. I had them do a few other small fixes while here and asked a few other questions about some perceived issues. Very nice. I would definitely recommend McHugh's.

At first it was fine. The faucet appeared to work properly for the summer. I rarely use that hose in fact I believe I used it twice from Jun when it was installed until around September when I shut off water to it and put everything away for the winter. Come spring I turn on the water to the faucet and it's pouring water without being turned on. I call and explain and they sent someone out in a reasonable amount of time. This is where it falls apart. The person I talked to asked if I had winterized and I did and then he stated that they were replacing a lot of this manufacturers outdoor faucets for some malfunctioning interior part. Then once the repair guy comes out I get a sort of frantic phone call about needing to pay for labor which I agreed to. I asked to keep the bad part so that I could call the manufacturer and get my money back and he couldn't do that, but agreed to have a threeway call with the manufacturer so that I could inquire about the issue. THIS NEVER HAPPENED! I am angry now because I feel that since the part was defective they should've recovered the price of installing a new part from the manufacturer. I expected the part to last properly for years because I did what I was supposed to do by turning off the water to the faucet and removing the hose over the winter. They already charged me $240 the first time and then another $100 to fix it! I spent $340 for something that Angies list just had a special for in the amt of $149! I will not be using this company in the future now. Although the guys who came out were friendly and professional. I don't think the owner handled the issue well. I understand that his guys need to be paid, but he should've recouped the money from the at fault manufacture and not the customer.

The faucet was installed properly from June 2014. We install hundreds of these faucets over the years. There have been recent jobs where we were called about the same issue. When we addressed our concern with the manufacturer they did recognize that they had a "batch" of these frost free spigots with problems. Immediately we stopped selling and installing this particular faucet. However, what to do with the many installed ones is wait and see which ones failed. I have a 90 day labor guarantee stated on my invoices and in all cases if a customer ever has an issue and it's not much after the warranty expiration , we always do the work for free. This particular job is almost exactly one year to date from install. I installed a free faucet I purchased for the customer. Brand new. I called the customer before the technician started because it was a "call back" and I feel I need to handle these personally. I understood her frustration with the leak and did the return work at cost. I cannot leave old parts with my customers because they have to be returned to the manufacturer for testing to be considered "covered" replacements. I will be following up with my customer and seeing if the manufacturer will replace the faucet at no cost. Manufacturers do not pay service company's wages to work on warranty items, they simply replace them. Mchugh Plumbing Inc. will be taking care of the replacement of the faucet either way and the homeowner stated she may have the other one replaced on the other side of the house. We can make up her cost spent on this visit. Thanks Bob Mchugh Mchugh Plumbing Inc

Jason checked why the commode was running constantly and checked all pipes and faucets for leaks. The toilet was very old and needed repair and new parts and seals but due to the age of the toilet Bob could not guarantee that it would last after repair and could not guarantee the work, therefore he recommended a new Gerber toilet that was efficient, fully warranted, and would be the best route to go. The repair was done at my sisters home and she decided the new product was the way to go. The toilet was replaced, faucets repaired, and valves replaced.

I called McHugh Plumbing on Monday morning and asked if I could get some one to,come fix this asap. They really worked with me to get some one out by the afternoon. They were fully booked up but got to our house In the early afternoon to repair everything. Everything was taken care of, and we appreciate that they had the parts needed since our shower fixtures are rather dated. We also appreciate the employees put covers on their shoes so nothing was tracked into the house. We have used McHugh Plumbing for many years and have had good results with this company.
Description of Work: We had a water leaking problem in the kitchen and water ended up on kitchen floor and in basement. Bob and his techs diagnosed the problem as our dishwasher that was broken. They disconnected the pipes to the dishwasher to stop leak. They also replaced valves that were worn on the pipes. We had the faucets in the shower repaired that were leaking as well.

Great , from the get go - I called on a Sunday afternoon. Bob called me back a few minutes later and said someone would be out Monday , he'd call with a time. Called Monday, mid morning , told me who was coming over and when and what kind of truck they would show up in. Very professional and courteous. Plumber introduced himself , we looked over the required work, he spent a few minutes writing up the cost estimates , Bob called and the work began. Smooth , quick & straight-forward . Work was very professionally done , Matt did a great job , updated me cleaned up and was done. I will most certainly use McHugh'sPlumbing as our go to plumber & would strongly recommend him to friends and family

Sanitary line backed up over the weekend. Called in Monday morning. Given the nature of my problem(no toilets, showers, etc.) Bob McHugh rearranged some jobs to fit me in. Two man crew arrived 1:30pm, dug down to sanitary, jet snaked, checked all toilets, sinks and drains, filled in the hole and replaced the sod. Could not tell the lawn had been disturbed. Problem solved at a fair price. The crew was friendly and explained the problem and the solution.

I called McHugh's Plumbing early Saturday evening because of a clogged kitchen sink. I left a message for a return call and within a few minutes, I received a call from Bob. I found out that Bob was out of state on vacation, but he assured me that McHugh's would do the job. He asked for a little time to set things up and called back letting us know that Tom would be able to help us Sunday morning. Tom called us Sunday morning to confirm the appointment time. He was prompt and courteous. He snaked out the line and cleaned up the work area. Yes, we would recommend and use McHugh's Plumbing again.

We obtained 3 estimates. The first was the lowest, and didn't seem to have his act together and smelled of cigarette smoke. The second was the highest of the three and didn't seem to be thinking the process through as clearly, initially. McHugh arrived as scheduled to provide an estimate, was pleasant, knowledgeable, and, mom (age 92) liked him best...as did I. It was understood that someone else would have to do the completion of the job, which would be to patch the hole in the tile in the shower wall that would need to be made to remove the old handles and install the correct plumbing. McHugh worked with someone, they had done many of these conversions, and he knew it would run approximately $300 to do that. The original handyman with experience in property maintenance quoted a figure considerably less, and as we had worked with him prior, and he had invested time in coming over to explain what we needed (i.e. a licensed plumber) we intended to have him do that work. I took a day of vacation time to be present. McHugh called punctually prior to announce another employee/friend with loads of experience would be coming to do the job, had his full faith in his abilities etc. I should also mention that I received a call a day or two earlier from the office asking if I might be able to do this next week when it was less busy for them instead. This would have required asking for a schedule change of my own as well as coordinating with the handyman...and we were trying to do this all as efficiently as possible so that my 97 year old father would be without the shower access for as short a time as possible. So we left the schedule alone, and Matt arrived that Friday morning. In the process he asked if we had a fan, which would help in his work with the dust etc. I gave him mine. (NOTE TO SELF: NEVER loan personal items/equipment etc to any workmen). Matt toiled away and was done before 1 PM. He would have left with the Speakman shower head we intended to clean up and reuse if I hadn't mentioned it. And only now do I realize he also got the old faucet handles. Tony arrived and was very disturbed to find that the way the tile had been cut was NOT on the grout line, but THROUGH every surrounding tile, consequently destroying all the tiles that could have been salvaged in replacing/filling in the hole. I erred in not specifying I wanted to salvage as many of the tiles as possible. The uneven 1/2" border he had to cut through meant more mess, more work, and in his opinion meant it was more work for original worker. As this would cost US more I was angry, and as Tony warned me, when calling Mc Hugh back, he was defensive, claiming this is how they ALWAYS do it and there were no problems nor complaints from their tile person. That had they cut on the grout line, they risked scratching and chipping all of the other adjoining tiles because it was such a narrow line. He was very unpleasant and I was between the rock and the hard place, not aware of the proper process by majority vote. When you put your trust in these people, you expect them to know how to do it right. I didn't know who to believe, but I had more trust in Tony as we had worked with him before, and he was straight with us from the start. Because the job was going to be more involved, Tony opted to not start that day, and return on Sunday. Which at least kept me from missing another day of work. When he was done he said if I put a fan on the area, it would dry more efficiently. I brought the fan out and found although it had been given to Matt of McHugh's clean (packed away clean for winter storage), it was now filthy with dust. It also would not work. You could hear the hum and feel electricity running through it, but no blades were rotating, not even after I got out as much dust as I could, and washed the grills and blades which come off. An email to Mr McHugh about the fan was never responded to or acknowledged. There was never an apology, an offer of compensation, or even a thank you for the job as I recall. Tony's work with the tile had to dry 24 hours and McHugh's was given the heads-up they could return any time after 2 PM Monday to install the faucet. Matt returned and completed the work after 4 PM that same day. When I asked if the fan was working prior to his leaving the other day, his response was "what fan?" When I reminded him of his borrowing my fan he said "oh...yeah. Isn't it now?" I told him it was not. He asked if I wanted him to look at it. I said no. I wanted him and his company out of my life ASAP. Tony returned Tuesday to finish caulking along the bottom of the shower and cleaning it up. He advised that after 24 hours, Dad would be able to use his shower again. Wednesday night Dad took his shower. And reported that for their $650. when he turned the handle toward the red/warm side, he got COLD water. And of course when he turned it to the blue/cold range, it was hot. I called McHugh the next day and advised them I could not miss any more time from work; that I would be able to be present after 5:15 the next two days, or until 10:30 AM the next morning. My call was returned punctually by the office and I was told he would be there the next morning at 8:30, which, this time, McHugh himself was. Conversation was minimal; no apologies for the inconvenience, no mention of the destroyed fan, only putting the blame on the faucet parts, that it sometimes happens. Although not likely, Moen told me it could shift in shipping. BUT wouldn't you think someone who cared and bothered to do the job in the first place, might have just turned the darn faucet on before leaving to assure all was well? Learned many lessons; unfortunately the hard way. This company has a majority of good reviews, but the D and F reviews are very telling. Now I know why others get disturbed when the person who says they are going to do the work becomes unavailable. It's like workmen bait and switch. I would never accept this behavior ever again. The job was completed satisfactorily as best we can tell, and as he was ever so defensively quick to point out, they are/were not responsible for the tile. The scores I gave reflect the issues mentioned in the above comments. The price as best I can tell was in range, maybe I little on the high side, but I figured you get what you pay for...Quality had to be rated as poor since they did not ensure the faucet was connected properly and allowed risking a 97 year old to be hit with cold water. They would have had A in responsiveness had it not been for ignoring my email and acting clueless in regard to the fan that was wrecked and had to be replaced. And, finally as far as professionalism goes, when all the other is taken into account, for the sense of my not understanding the process being taken advantage of, and the defensive attitude they presented, not to mention the inconvenience and the substituting of someone else to do the work, it could be nothing more than an F. Maybe an F+ To be clear, I had nothing but good feelings and high expectations of this company to start, and two people I knew had good experience with them, but felt they were on the high side price wise. Had I been a member of Angie's prior, I still would have seen the bulk of good reviews.

Response from McHugh's Plumbing Inc
As you can read from hundreds of past and recent reviews that McHugh Plumbing Inc. is always focused on customer satisfaction & delivering a common sense / great service experience for our customers. From the start on this project, I was informative and gave plenty of good advise to the customer regarding the shower faucet repair. The basic scope of work was to remove 9 tiles from the shower interior and to install a Moen faucet. In my opinion, the homeowner treated this small repair as if we were rebuilding her house. The shower was original tile and plumbing from the 1970's or earlier. I advised the customer several times before starting what to expect after the tile removal and I even recommended my tile contractor for the repair to her wall. Our tile contractor priced the work around 200 plus materials (A very fair cost for fixing a small patch hole surrounding the faucet). However, the homeowner had a family friend who quoted the work for less than $100.00. I should have figured when I heard this that it was trouble from the beginning. He complained from the start that he had more work to do than planned, and since the homeowner had past experience with this person, she trusted him and only him!? We actually made his job easier. We work with many tile setters who have approved and implemented our standard tile removal method because it lessens damage to surrounding tile and allows them back board to attach new tile to. I followed up and called the customer after each step of the way, and she was complaining and critical from the beginning. I consider this a learning experience and a poor match. I like to work with my contractors and not friends of my customers. I am a trained professional and prefer to work with the like. I know each day I put in my best and give back and am proud of my company and workers. As far as the fan, the homeowner offered the 50 yr old fan to my employee to use and it needs a fuse, yes a fuse (thats how old it is). The fan not working has nothing to do with our work. Thanks, Bob McHugh McHugh Plumbing Inc

It went very well! We had a slow leak on the weekend which erupted into a waterfall by Monday morning. I call McHugh's right away (about 5:45 am), and he called back within 15 minutes. He secured a new heater for us and got his guys out to install it that day. They were very quick, verycourteous, and very clean. I don't know how the price compares to other providers. Asking around with coworkers, most of them seem to agree with me that it was a very good price. A few coworkers have mentioned that it seems high. I'm not upset with the price at all, and I rated it an A. The price I listed is the exact, fully loaded price they charged. If there's a significantly cheaper option, I'd be pretty surprised. The one small complaint I had was with punctuality. When I spoke with Bob, he said he could get a team out that morning. They didn't get to my house until 1:10 pm. I know it was short notice, so scheduling was not precise. I just wish I could have known they would arrive in the afternoon so I could have gotten a half day of work in that morning. Not a big deal at all, but the "before lunch/after lunch" quote could have helped me stay on schedule better.

Thank you to the member for the business. This call was actually scheduled for during the week for a thursday. The homeowner then called back and stated that the leak had worsened and needed faster attention. From a Sunday evening late call and then having to shuffle around previously scheduled Monday a.m. calls - I was able to get a crew out the next day by 1p.m. When it comes to emergencies - everyone has to work together on schedules to get results. Thanks for the message and again thank you for the work.

He was wonderful! We called on the Saturday before Easter and he was more than willing to get a hot water tank and install it. He was not planning on working that day but he came and did it for us anyway. I was very pleased. It only took about an hour and a half. He did charge us for a holiday weekend but I was more than happy with his service and his promptness. I called him and within an hour he had gotten the tank and was at my door. I was very impressed! I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Called McHugh's on Friday and spoke with a secretary who stated she would give me a call back shortly with further information. The owner, Bob, called me back and said he would try to be at my residence on Saturday, but due to the amount of emergency calls and their current schedule he could only guarantee Monday. The secretary called me back and stated someone would be at my residence between 1-3. Bob called around 130 Monday and stated he was on his way from the previous job. When Bob arrived with another employee, i explained my issue again. Bob informed me of what he was going to do and quoted me a base price. Bob went to work and it was realized my drain was not a normal clog. Bob worked for almost two hours until the drain was clear. The clog was very packed and stubborn. Throughout the entire process Bob and his employee were extremely professional and courteous. Bob also quoted me for a few other repairs i will need to have done in the near future and those quotes also seemed very reasonable. I highly recommend McHugh's for any repairs you need. I will definitely be using them again.

It was good. They were able to come in one day. I felt it was expensive but all plumbers are. They were very professional, I would use them again. Their work turned out well.
