I was referred to Paul Davis by my insurance company. I need work done on my home for mold and water damage. The initial consultation with a representative went fine. He came out, talked to me, took pictures, and made measurements and a video of my home. He then said that he sent the information over to their estimator and I would get an estimate in about 5 days. That is when the problems started happening. I received a call from them a few days later telling me that they talked to my insurance company and that the insurance company already had an “approved” quote, so they would not be doing anything for me. I informed them that I have not approved anything because the quote they have is too high and is much higher than the insurance companies’ maximum payout for this type of claim. That is why I reached out to them for a second opinion. I ended the conversation stating the fact that I am the customer, not the insurance company. I am ultimately responsible for paying the contractor, and am just being reimbursed by the insurance company, so please send me an estimate. 10 days later and I still do not have an estimate. I managed to get the estimator on the phone, and he refuses to work out an estimate. He kept ignoring what I had to say and had the nerve to say to me “You can believe what you want, but I am not going to waste my time working on an estimate for you”. I will acknowledge that I did yell at him on the phone at this point. His arrogance and refusal to listen to a potential customer was infuriating.

Signed on with Paul Davis on 10/05/2020. It took 2 months for them to complete their work with their workers in our home only 5 days during that time. An inappropriate amount of time for our project. The subcontractor assigned to our project worked alone and surprised us by being rude and unprofessional. It was obvious he was more concerned by how quickly he could get work done rather than concentrating on detail and quality. We also had issues with estimates and billing, being charged for work either partially completed or not at all. I contested that I also believe we were charged twice for the same work. I'm sorry to report that we were very frustrated and disappointed with our overall experience. We cannot recommend Paul Davis for restoration and repair work.

Description of Work: We had water damage throughout the lower level of the house. Paul Davis responded very quickly, negotiated with the insurance company, and sent a very professional crew to perform the clean up. I would recommend them highly for cleanup and drying out. However, when used them for repairs their subcontractor subcontracted to an individual handyman and the charges seemed a little high for the work done.

Description of Work: Paul Davis Restoration was recommended by Erie Insurance to repair damage from flooding caused by frozen and burst pipes. The house was vacant, and they were aware that I could not check their work. They were to replace the damaged pipes, flooring, drywall, ceiling tiles, etc. it took them several weeks longer than estimated, although they stated this was due to insurance delays. When the buyer turned on the tap, water sprayed everywhere, and I lost the sale. When the house went back on the market, I had to list for $20k less because the flooring they installed was badly buckled, and the plumbing still leaked in several places. Despite the mold mitigation, buyers still noted a mold smell. Finally, when their HVAC person examined the furnace to determine the cause of the failure (which led to the burst pipes,) he said the whole furnace had to be replaced - that the motherboard was "fried." When I got a second opinion from another HVAC person, he explained that the furnace was fine, and that the trouble was due to a loose wire in the thermostat. The HVAC person contracted by Paul Davis did not even check the furnace, just recommended the highest-profit fix. This company may be fine for a homeowner who can be present to check the work, but if not, it seems they make the repairs a very low priority.

He was a good guy and he did a lot of work. They did a nice job.
Description of Work: I used Paul Davis Restoration of Cleveland Metro. I had water damage and the insurance paid for it. But I also had them paint my living room, ceiling in my kitchen and some other stuff in my bedroom so I spent more than what the insurance covered. I had them replaced some bathroom fixtures and did the shower and tiles in my bathroom.

I had water damage from Sandy in October 2012. Wind ripped off a small section of shingles and water leaked through my upstairs closet into my living room and then through the living room floor and damaged ceiling tiles in the basement. I met with the insurance adjuster Nov 2 and he recommended Paul Davis Restoration to get an estimate. I called them Nov 4 and left a voicemail and Nick then returned my call on Nov 5 and said they were only doing emergency work due to the storm and would get back to me in a week or so to schedule an estimate. I did not get a call back from them. On December 11 the adjuster asked me if I had heard from this company as he had called and asked them to contact me for an estimate as he felt the other estimates I had submitted were too high. I again called them and my call was returned on Dec 13 and a message left by Rod Sharpnac. I finally reached Mr. Sharpnac on 12/14 and scheduled an estimate for 12/28 at 2:30 PM On the 28th I got a call about 10:00 AM from Mr. Sharpnac to tell me he had to check a property due to fire damage and emergency repairs and was calling to cancel our appointment for 10:15 AM. I told him my records showed we were to meet at 2:30 PM and he said that would be fine. At 2:40 PM he called again and said he would be here about 3:15 PM and offered no apology or explanation for the delay. When he did arrive I showed him the damaged areas and specifically where there was water damage to the hardwood floor that will require refinishing to the entire downstairs. He did check the moisture levels in the walls, and lead content of the paint that had sustained water damage. When we were concluding the review I offered my email to send the estimate to and he told me he would just send it directly to the adjuster, who he had consistently referred to on a first name basis, so my adjuster could make any 'necessary tweaks' and then they would let me know the results. That put up red flags everywhere for me and I told him that I wanted to see copies of everything he submitted to the insurance adjuster also. I followed-up with an email to the adjuster also stating I wanted copies of everything. I would definitely not recommend this company to anyone else. They were not responsive to me, and when I did get the final estimate he totally ignored the floor damage and it was not included at all. My impression was that Mr. Sharpnac was doing a favor for the insurance adjuster and not interested in working with me at all to make the repairs to my home.

My parents used Paul Davis Restoration when their basement flooded last year and recommended them to us. I called and spoke to the receptionist who told me we would receive a call back to set up an appointment for an estimate later that week. Some time went by before I received a call back. I had requested my cell phone be used since I work during the day however, they called my home line and I ended up missing the call. I called back within a half hour after the message was left and left a voicemail. I never heard back. I was ready to move on at that point, but my parents really liked their work so they called the cell phone number they still had. They reached him and were able to get him to come out for an estimate the next week. That was 3 months ago....I never heard back again. Needless to say, we will not recommend this company. They clearly do not care about our business.
Description of Work: We were looking for an estimate to remodel our family room. This included taking out a wall, adding hard wood floors and a heating element.

Based on a recommendation from my insurance adjuster, I called this company to come out to paint and patch walls in only part of my house that had been affected by water. I explained I had some urgency to my request. The estimator came out very promptly, within a few days, and then promised that I would receive an estimate within a couple days after that, needing only to call the insurance company, and that a crew was available to start the following week. I was tickled. I waited almost a week before calling them first. I heard for the first time what was repeated again and again, that estimator was unavailable, the estimate was already in the mail, when it was not, and different excuses. When I finally received the estimate about three weeks later, after I finally asked them to please just tell me truthfully if they did not want my business, they had lumped in all sorts of other work in other areas of the house that I had NOT indicated I wanted to be done by them but would make arrangements to be done by others. It was not as though they separated out the charges to try to tempt me away to them. How could I go with a company that had such awful follow through and had not paid attention at all to what I asked even in the estimate. Very, very disappointing. Went with someone else.

I had used them earlier also. They charged me $800, the last time they came out. However, it was covered by insurance. The ceiling plasters looks better than it did before. They did the work really quickly. The room looked much better than it did before. They also painted the room, including the molds and trims. It is probably the best looking room in the house now. I will definitely use this company again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Paul Davis Restoration, three years ago. They did some work on the walls and they restored the ceiling.
