Gaetano Cement Contractor LLC

I thought the 1st meeting with Guy went well. We discussed the replacement of the garage floor, expanding a turn-around area, a desire to keep the drive as wide if not wider than it was and the importance of coordinating the work with a company that was going to be doing waterproofing. It was determined that Guy could do the work we were looking for and would be able to work with the waterproofing company. He seemed professional and I felt confident that this would be a good experience. While the waterproofing was in progress the company tried to contact Gaetano to coordinate work needed to reset a gate; however, there seemed to be some confusion on what to do. I also tried to contact Gaetano to make sure the gate was not an issue, but received no call back. The team arrived as scheduled on Tuesday and went right to work. The workers were great and very hard working. By Thursday the old floor/drive was out, the framing in and they began pouring the garage floor. During the work, I discussed the gate when Guy arrived to review the work. He said he wasn't happy about how it was left but did admit that he had made an assumption about a footer and had been too busy to return my call (Thus my rating of C on responsiveness since it resulted in an issue). He said he wasn't comfortable with it, but then agreed to a plan to get it up and even stated that with his marker, he could make a mark to line it up so it would be no more than an eighth of an inch off with the other side. At no time did he say he couldn't handle getting the gate back up or that I should get the waterproofing company back over to take care of it. So it seemed that all was taken care of and we left for the weekend assuming the drive would be finished when we got home on Sunday evening. When we arrived home the 1st thing I noticed immediately was that the drive was noticeably narrower that it had been before the work began, additionally there was a curved portion of the drive that was not cemented and lastly, the gate was 3" off. When I spoke with the team on Monday they said I should speak with Guy, so I left an email message to request that he call to discuss these issues. When we talked on Tuesday I was told that the drive was laid to meet the apron not to be as wide as before and they took the curve area out because of how they decided to frame the drive. Now we are faced with another job to add paving stones to both sides of the drive. Not exactly the look I was hoping for or what I expected from Gaetano. Additionally we discussed the uneven gate. Guy again said he wasn't happy about having to put it up and did the best he could. Just wish there would have been better communication or he hadn't given me the impression it would be OK; otherwise I would have put Guy on hold and gotten the waterproofing team back before proceeding. Guy did say that he would come back in this fall (if the weather holds out) or in the spring to try to correct it. A nice offer that I will call on. With the exception of these issues Gaetano worked hard and did nice concrete work. I would use them again; however, I would make sure they understood any specifics I might have and verify them before work were to progress.

We found Gaetano Cement Contractors on Angie's List and, really, from the first point of contact we were never disappointed. They were quick to respond to emails. Guy, the company owner was personable and friendly, and was quick to provide an estimate. At first, we were a bit shocked by the price, but they were understanding and encouraged us to get competitive bids. After securing a few, we found Gaetano's bid to be right in line, and went with Gaetano just based upon the trust we had in their previously strong recommendations. We asked for an Oct. 1 start date, and they showed up that very morning. After removing the concrete that day, rain set in for a few days, but as soon as it let up, they called to schedule the pouring and showed up early and finished ahead of schedule. It turned out beautifully, more than we had hoped for.

Gaetano gave me a quote in early June, advised I would need to have some separate masonry work done by others before the pad work could begin. Subsequently they kept in close contact (several followup e-mails) so their work could be scheduled following completion of the masonry. Excellent communication to coordinate timing of the work. Since I previously had my entryway steps and brickwork replaced and this work was directly adjacent to the old pad, Gaetano had to be careful not to disturb it during demolition of the pad. I observed they were careful in the demo work. The original plan was to slope the new pad from the house down toward my driveway/yard, for proper drainage. However, upon surveying the site Gaetano found my driveway was way too high for this to be feasible - they would've had to remove a lot of surface material to leave it low enough for the original plan to work. So instead they proposed and I accepted installing a central drain in the pad. See photos. Gaetano supplied #57 crushed limestone (a premium stone underlayment) as a base and also brought some extra (at my request and add'l cost) to fill in a low spot in the driveway. As quoted, this base was tamped, wire mesh reinforcement added, 4" of concrete poured, expansion joints installed where the new pad met my garage and porch, and joints were saw cut. I am well pleased with the finished job, but have two reservations: 1) As the concrete was being poured, I never saw anyone lift the wire reinforcement up so that it would end up midway in the 4" pad. Instead I suspect it's laying at the bottom, on top of the underlayment, where it won't be as effective. Now I did not watch the pour 100% of the time so I could've missed this... 2) The day the (unexpected) drain was installed, Guy DiFini verbally quoted me a price for this drain of $300. But when the invoice arrived, this portion of the work was billed at $650. When I asked him about this, he said the $300 was for materials only, no labor. But that was not made clear at the time of his verbal quote. I accepted his explanation - perhaps he underestimated his costs for the drain work on the day it was done, or I misunderstood his verbal quote. All in all, pleased with the job and our new pad is a great improvement over what we had before.

I cannot possibly recommend Guy and his crew more highly. I was able to ask him questions about the bid and the process from the minute I made contact; he was always very patient and gave thorough answers. The bid he gave for the job was very competitive (we got three bids). He was very courteous about changes or issues that came up- we had to delay his work for several weeks because the city tore up and repaved our street, which would have made his work very difficult. He was completely understanding about the change and basically came and did the job almost the day after I told him we were ready to go. His crew was professional and very thoughtful; they joked with my kids (who of course watched the job obsessively), kept us clued in to what they were doing all along the way, and generally did a spectacular job. Six months later and the driveway looks as good as ever. Great, great job- thank you so much!

I wrote a quick email message on 4th of July weekend and received an email response in less than 30 minutes. I was VERY pleased and rather amazed. Guy came on Monday as promised with a call before and looked at the main repair as well as some others we had partially repaired ourselves. Called later that day with cost and breakdown. Very thorough, very professional, would refer and will probably pursue the repair. This is someone who owns his company and guards its reputation. A real pleasure.

Called and left a message requesting that someone come out to estimate replacing 8' of driveway and adding a parking pad (400 sq ft total). Received a call back saying someone would contact me. I was never contacted. Called back and left another message, but no one ever called me back. In the meantime, two other contractors, both quite busy, have come out to the house to estimate the job.

I called many companies for estimates regarding the garage floor, and Guy was one of only three who got back to me. I realize that this is a very busy time of year, but still...to not reply at all seems rude. Anyway, Guy arrived not only on time but a bit early, and gave me what I believe is an honest opinion--the cracks in the floor are not that bad, and actually suggested that it's something my husband could repair, even though that would be more of a temporary fix than a permanent one. I really believe Guy is trying to save me the expense, which is a rare quality among contractors, so I'm going put this job on the back burner for a while, but when I am ready to have the floor replaced, whether it be later this year or next year, I won't hesitate to call Guy. His professionalism and honesty are very impressive and very much appreciated.

All I can say is WOW.....everything you would ever want from someone you hired to do work for you, that you don't typical get these days! I've had some bad experiences with contractors, which is why I decided to try Angie's list. Guy and his crew from Gaetano Cement have set the bar high for anyone I use from Angie's list in the future. Once I found Gaetano on Angie's list, I emailed them with my contact info asking for a request for a quote; I received a response via email within 2 hours and a phone call from Guy before the end of the day to schedule an appointment to come to my home and discuss the job. Guy showed up as scheduled on a Saturday, but not before actually calling me to tell me he was runing late from another job and wanted to know if it still fit into my schedule to meet. (What concractor calls you when he is behind schedule?) When he arrived, I shared my vision for a stamped concrete patio with him and he provided great feedback and ideas and took measurements for a 16x33 patio, of which I later changed to 18x33 with no complaints from Guy. Sunday evening I received an email with a detailed quote for the project and Monday and I received a phone call from Guy to review and answer any questions. Any time I called him with a question during the project he immediately called me back. While Guy was very busy with other projects, he knew getting this done quickly was important to us and fit us into the schedule within 2 weeks, There was a slight rain delay, but when Guy said he was going to start, he and his crew arrived when they said they would. The weekend before the start of the project, Guy stopped over again to discuss colors and stamping pattern and time-frame for completion. Day 1: they dug, set up forms, poured the border and the stairs. Day 2: they poured the main portion of the patio and stamped it. Day 3: They added 2 coats of acrylic sealer with the first coat having "gator grip" in it to prevent slippage. Guy takes tremendous pride in the quality of his work and is involved in every aspect of the project. He will do any of the work that affects the quality, i.e. stamping, sealing, stairs. We were so impressed with Gaetano Cement that we have already referred them to several people and will use them again for a few other projects we have planned. If your looking for concrete work, don't waste your time looking beyond Gaetano Cement!!

The level of professionalism that I received from Gaetano was absolutely wonderful, surprising, and just all around magnificent! We've all had to hire people from time to time, to do handyman type jobs, cement work, electrical, etc. The biggest problem is always just getting them to return a phone call, let alone show up to do the work right?! it is positively incredible, I always think to myself, well, if I did my job like this, I would be SOOOO fired, I have never had the response time that I did with Gaetano. They would usually call back right away, probably within an hour. They kept me informed as to when they planned on doing the job. They NEVER cancelled, they called back, they emailed, they stayed on top of it! We had to wait for a nice day, due to it being a concrete job and the second there was one in the forecast, they called, scheduled the job, and yes.... were there on the day scheduled! Oh, and did I mention, they were LITERALLY HALF the price of the other bids?? I just cannot say enough great things about this company. I am truly thrilled, not only with the work performed, but also their professionalism, courtesy and follow up! YEP, you read it correctly, they actually followed up to make sure the customer is happy! This alone, shows me that they are a cut above all the rest. I can?t thank them enough, and If I have a need in the future, this company will be my first and only call.

Guy and his crew have done several jobs for me and I am completely satisfied. Not only is the job always done the first time but Guy has personally followed up to check on the jobs and make any necessary modifications. I have several other concrete jobs to finish and I will certainally have him do these

Guy came out and provided a quote based on what we had outlined as the anticipated new drive. He later came out and discussed options that included widening the whole drive vs. putting in a side pad for basketball (great advice!). The asphalt tear out, framing, pouring, and clean up all went as expected. we had no areas of concern during the process. Guy and his crew asked us to approved the final framing and spent time making subtle curve adjustments after our input. We were given copies of the concrete mix to keep if there were any problems with concrete in the future.

Called serval months ahead of time and they started the job about a week after the original starting date which was not bad in my opinion given weather dependent work. I had 4 different bids and they were had the best price. It wasn't cheap, but it was a very big job. There were a couple of unexpected changes along the way, but I was called immediately and explained the situation and asked how I wanted it handled. I was very happy with the quality and service. They would be my fist contact again for more concrete work in the future.

Outstanding! Guy has done all my cement jobs and during one of his looks at previous work he performed we talked about grinding the deck because of peeling paint and very slippery conditions. We scheduled the work and it was done quickly, efficiently, and it looks outstanding. The repairs in the garage came out perfectly and the repair is nearly invisible at the seams. Guy's staff are all very polite, friendly, and always leave the area cleaner than it was to begin with. The thing I like best about Guy is that he always personally follows up and insures that the customer is completely satisfied. I plan to use Gaetano cement in the near future to put in a new basement decorative floor.

I would definitely recommend getting advice from anyone who has had similar work in the past to get all of the details and differences between products (concrete vs. asphalt) and items to look for in companies. Leaving a clean and professional finished product was key to my search and that is exactly what I got.

Guy DiFini, owner of Gaetano Cement Contractors, arrived promptly on scheduled date. He presented his business cardand gave a very thorough and impressive presentation. We were hooked! After he surveyed the desired work area hegave us a written estimate and encouraged us to obtain at least two other estimates, as his was the first.In fact, he told us what questions to ask regarding our work. We learned about the different grades of concrete and broomfinish vs. hand finish.He is a very honest, caring and informative contractor. He is also a true professional. His written estimate equaled that oftwo . Due to scheduling, we had to choose another contractor.

They did all the work while we were away on vacation so I can't describe the day to day; the finished product was excellent.

Communication to me is key when you are dealing with spending money on people coming into your home.

Guy DiFini provided excelent service from the moment I called for a quote until he and his crew cleaned up and left the job site. Showed up on time as promised for both the site review for the quote as well has the day the work was scheduled. All aspects of the job as explained and listed in the prosal were performed exactly. He and his crew were very professional, worked hard throughout the day, and cleaned up properly when they finished. He had enough manpower to ensure the project was completed on time. The crew were very experianced. The final product not only looks great, but was properly sloped and finished to perfection. The pricing for the project was very fair and reasonable. Any concrete work - I would highly recomend Guy DiFini and Gaetana Cement Contractors.

I was lucky to have Gaetano family do this work for me. Saved me money and performed work other contractors would not have done. The Gaetano family is top notch , friendly and demanding for perfection.

We called Gaetano for an estimate in late May, as well as several other contractors. Guy was articulate and very informative. He explained the process and material thoroughly. His estimate was neither the highest nor the lowest, but was on the low side of those we received. We were persuaded he would do a good job by his thoroughness and candor in his advice about what needed to be done and how he would proceed. The start date was later than expected owing to the extremes of rain and heat our area received this summer, but he always returned our calls so we never felt forgotten or "put off." But as impressed as we were by our contact with him, his crew absolutely floored us when they began work. We have never had such a terrific group of men as this crew. They worked very hard, were inveterately cheerful and helpful, and constantly impressed us with the care they took as the job progressed. They were meticulous in carrying out their tasks and worked like the experienced, skilled team they are. The driveway and garage floor are wonderful and we are enjoying them immensely. We would recommend Gaetano to anyone who wants a top quality job at a fair price!
