This was not a good experience. The guy who I spoke with on the phone was nice enough--returning my calls promptly and being helpful, polite and professional. But, the gentleman who came out from the company to actually do the work (Ron?) was a jerk: he was over an hour late and then very grumpy with me that he couldn't find the house and had initially gone to the wrong address. I live on a street with ample signage (indeed, I am two houses away from the street sign on the corner) and my house number is clearly displayed on a porch pillar right in front. It is not my fault if he couldn't find the house; get a GPS or look at an old-fashioend map. Alternatively, call your office and/or your costumer and say you are lost and ask for help finding the house. Then, his whole demeanor and attitude during the repair was rude: gruff, dismissive and unprofessional. Frankly, I felt like he treated me like I was some kind of idiot who didn't know anything about garage doors because I am a woman. My door needed a pretty common and straight-forward repair--a new horizontal strut to stop some buckling at a point where the mechanical arm had detached from the door from pulling and pushing too hard. But, when he came out, he said that not only was the entire door unrepairable but that I also needed a whole new track system as well. That was absurd and, frankly, patently not true. First, I pointed out that it was his company's door (to be sure, there is a sticker on the back of the door with his company's name), so if the track system and the door were and quot;all wrongand quot; for my interior garage space, that was on them, not me. He got very grumpy at this. Then, after he said again that at least the whole door needed to be replaced, I countered by saying that it was a small part that at the top of the door that had broken and could be easily repaired with a horizontal strut and some bolts to re-attach it to the mechanical arm. This is a pretty common repair (you can Youtube many videos about how and why it happens, and how to fix it yourself). When I explained to him in detail what it would take to fix the problem and that I could do the repair myself if I had a couple of additional tools, he grudgingly did the repair. And I do mean grudgingly. He huffed and puffed and sulked the whole time. He was very rude. Moreover, if this is how he treats a customer who actually knows something about home repairs, I shudder to think how he'll treat someone--male or especially female (and especially an older single woman, like a grandmother who lives alone)--who doesn't know anything about how automatic garage doors work or what it means when they break in various ways for various reasons? I had made an appointment with a different garage door company--one with an A-rating here on Angie's List--but I had canceled it after hearing back from this place. As I mentioned above, their company sticker was on the back of my door, and it seemed best for them to be the ones to look into repairing it. But, I regret canceling the appointment with the A-rated company and working with this place. When the time comes that I legitimately and actually need a new garage door or track system, I would never call this place. I would advise folks here not to do so as well. At least my interactions with this one repairman tells me that they are not honest. On a more positive note, the repairman did charge me the same general amount that the nicer guy on the phone had said it would cost to repair, when I explained to him in pretty specific detail what had happened with my door. So, there's that. (Incidentally, the guy on the phone also agreed that a new strut to reinforce the top panel of the door and bolts to reattach the arm would do the trick. He said it'd be a pretty easy repair that should take less than 30 mins. Moreover, I had called several other companies to get estimates on the repair and the response was always the same when I explained what had happened and even sent a cell photo of the broken area: yep, this occurs and isn't a big deal to fix. A new strut and some bolts and your door will be good as new.) One final comment: the repairman had me make my check out to and quot; The Garage Door Companyand quot; explaining that the owner is in the process of buying the company out from his father or something. So, I would avoid that business as well.

I called Atwood Door and they came out the next day. The gentlemen called ahead to make sure that it was ok if they arrived early. Great customer service by this company. They explained the problem, fixed what needed to be done and answered all of the questions I had for them. They even had recommendations for future doors/parts. I would recommend this company for installing/replacing garage doors.

They charged us $100.00 to just look at the garage door. Then told us they did not have a spring that would fit ourdoor. They said the only way to fix it would be to install a whole new door. The person that came out for the service call quoted a price of over $1,000.00. We decided to check with another company just to be sure that was what we needed to do. The other company came out and did not charge anything to look at the door. They said that there was no reason the door could not be fixed. They replaced the spring and charged just over $100.00!! Atwood was just trying to rip us off by making us buy a new door. I will never deal with them again! So happy I decided to get a second opinion!

I called in the morning stating that my garage door was doing nothing. They called me 30 minutes before they got there so I could still go to work. When they arrived the technician stated that he did not think he needed to replace the opener but that a tune up should fix it and save me money. I had been having an awful noise for a long time but of course the noise did not happen when he first checked it. Then the noise happened and he said I agree I should replace the opener. He replaced it and was done in about an hour.

The experience in 2008 was great. The experience in Sept 2012 of trying to get them to respond to our phone calls wanting to purchase a new remote opener replacement has been frustrating. Either they are in business or not and if not, please say so on the phone.
Description of Work: Atwood doors put in a new garage door opener at my elderly parents home in 2008. We still have the paperwork, they were very efficient and did a great job for a reasonable price. The garage door opener has since been misplaced as dad had not driven since 2005. We have repeatedly left messages at the Hill Road phone #, asking them to please call us back regarding purchasing another remote, but no one has replied to our calls and we can find no info on them except the ad on Angie's list and phone books. If they are out of business, their ad needs taken off of Angies list as this has been a frustrating experience and a waste of time.

I had a 1 pm meeting to get to that day to get to and was worried that the service man wouldn't make it in time for me to make my meeting. But he came just in time and replaced the broken spring in about 20 minutes. In that time, he not only replaced the spring, but also lubed the rollers and made sure that the door operated properly. I had plenty of time to get to my meeting too. I am very pleased with the service. This is the second time I had need of Atwood's service. Last year the cable had broken and the same service man fixed that problem. So after that good experience of getting the door fixed last year, I wanted Atwood to fix the broken spring this year. Hoping for another 10 years of garage door free problems.
Description of Work: Replaced a broken garage door spring. My car was stuck in the garage and was unable to lift the door, but after a call to Atwood, I had an appointment the very next day.

Overall it went well. Only complaint is that the lightbulb on the opener didn't work when I tried it. I replaced the bulb, and no problem with the light. They should have checked before leaving. Some debris was left, but not much, and it was a cold day, the garage is not heated, and they probably wanted to finish up quickly. Prompt and professional, and the cost was about what I expected. It appears that they also lubed the garage door wheels while they were there (they had installed the door a year or two ago).

See previous description. A great experience and I would definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: I called on Wednesday and was able to schedule an appointment for the next morning. My garage door would go up without proglem, but coming down would start and stop or sometimes not close at all. The representative arrived on time and found the issue immediately. He also showed me how to fix it myself if it happens again. While he was there, he serviced the garage door and replaced the rubber along the bottom of the door so rain/snow are less able to get under the door. My door is quiet now and goes up and down without issue.

I am quite satisfied with the work that they did as well as the price that they charged for replacing the garage door and also for replacing the garage door opener. They were friendly and responsive. Ben from Atwood door came out the same day and was able to get the door shut. He then walked me through some options. Atwood was willing to work me into their day. The cost of a new door would have really put a hurt on us so Ben offered a different solution. After agreeing to have the work done he didn't demand payment on sight. He called back later that day to let me know that they did have a used door that would work. He installed a new/used door at my request 2 days later including a security key pad. He was early for the job and called when he was leaving the shop to let me know he was coming. He was very helpful and professional. he knew I had a meeting to go to and didn't want me to be late. I have used Atwood a couple times they are very honest and fair.
Description of Work: My garage door got caught on the man door and was completely damaged. It had to be totally replaced. Atwood got the door to close and took care of replacing it. They would have come the next day if needed. They also installed a security pad so that the problem would not happen again.

I called on a Sunday evening and left a message. Return call early the next Monday. They had a door with the right color and size in stock, but an upgrade from my existing door. Otherwise, another model would have been an order, and a week or two before they would have it. They knocked some money off the price, as they could use the existing track for the door, had the door in stock, and also advised that there was a $100 rebate from the door manufacturer. The door was installed when I arrived home Monday evening. Nicer door than the old one, although I had not planned on replacing the old door! I've used Atwood previously and have been satisfied.

They were very responsive in coming out upon my initial call, and did not charge a fee for that initial diagnostic visit They only charged us after the springs were installed. Very nice and easy to work with. They called the day after our message was left and schedule an apt. for the next day. They arrived within the timeframe and fixed the problem. He even showed me some things to do to keep the doors working longer to adjust the pressure on springs, etc. He even suggested if another spring breaks to get them all fixed at the same time because it will save money. To do two is $190 vs. to do one is $150. He stated that if they were installed around the same time, they will wear out around the same time too.
