John and Pam are amazing! Words can't describe our satisfaction in their professionalism and proactive approach to the job. The attention to detail was superb...a few pieces of metal were delivered with scratches and they wouldn't install them even though there were ways to easily disguise the flaws. I would recommend them to anyone!

I couldn't be happier! John and Pam are perfectionists! We contacted Yost to inquire about a barn/garage by email, I was immediately contacted by John and arranged to see examples of both in progress and completed structures. The attention to detail was evident immediately with the structures. He completed an on-site evaluation as to where we wanted the structure and provided me with multiple options of what "could" be done as far as placement, doors, height, etc. We finally settled on a design and layout of the driveway to access the building. We sat down to choose all the colors (we never knew there were so many places you had to make color choices, we just figured you chose roof and sides), and discussed the timeline for the entire project. Clearing began immediately, and within days, we had a driveway to our future structure...and waited for the trusses (commercial loading) to be delivered. Finally the day came to dig the holes....everything was going better than I could ever hope for...but mother nature threw a curve, the ground in one corner didn't have a good base. John called me and we discussed the best options; he brought out a huge posthole auger and we inserted even larger pucks in the ground to stabilize the posts. He felt (and I agreed), we needed to over-engineer this so no settling would ever occur. Once the posts were set, and the trusses installed, it became even more evident that John and Pam were perfectionists. Some of the sheet metal was scratched and dented, but neither of them were going to allow the pieces to be installed...they demanded the supplier fix their error. Even though this was not their mistake, they took it personally as if they (not the distributor) were responsible for the damaged sheet metal and delaying completion of the barn. John and Pam had almost daily contact with me as to the progress, and when the building was completed, I was in total awe...it surpassed my expectations! The building is perfect, the next step will be to concrete the floor.... :-)

I wasn't getting reasonable quotes because most companies only offered replacing all the metal on the house and detached garage. I wasn't finding many choices so I took a different approach by contacting metal barn companies because the jobs have much in common. John Yost immediately questioned whether or not the metal was usable. The steep roofed portion on the house and garage were good except the valley needed replaced and tightened up elsewhere. His skilled laborer, Josh does great quality and fast work. Repairs have been in place now about 3/4ths of a year without any leaks. Work looks great. The only problems were minor: A ground wire was left broken (disconnected) to the detached garage roof peak. I fixed it right and hadn't been properly protected from the weather when they started anyway. One Saturday they worked when I was gone and one item wasn't replaced new as specified in the contract and another I expected was included in the contract was vague. John agreed to rework the one and complete the other at no extra charge. They let me fill in insulation voids while the low roof was off. Was not accessible otherwise. These guys were fun to work with and a good value. They gave me a lot of advice on the project and didn't charge for humorous stories.
Description of Work: Replaced low sloped metal roof over long back porch & room. Repaired a very old metal roof on > 100 year old farm house. Fixed mortar joints on chimney and replaced the top flue liner piece. Replaced a few flipped up panels on the metal garage roof, added metal edging to prevent wind blow ups, screwed down where loose, and spliced on rafter repairs where water damaged. Added spacers to make eves plumb and capped with aluminum for modern K style gutters.

We had contacted 5 barn builders to get estimates for a horse barn and a storage barn. There were 2 companies who never did respond to us. John put together drawings and estimates for us very quickly. After meeting with him, we chose him to do the work for us. He gave us good suggestions on some things we had not considered. His price was very fair compared to the other estimates we received. It is very evident that he takes great pride in what he does. His communication throughout the project was fantastic. We always knew what was going on. This was one of the best experiences I have ever had with a contractor. I would highly recommend him. Although I had never met John before starting this, I would consider him a friend.
Description of Work: John built a horse barn, with stalls and tack room and an additional storage barn for us.

I had been looking diligently for a year for someone to secure my timber frame structure and had found noone willing to take on the job unless I was willing to spend more than a new barn would cost. Estimates were in the $25,000 to $50,000 range which was not in the budget even though I really wanted to address the issues my barn was facing to ensure long term viability. I happened upon John's ad one Sunday and he came out that afternoon and looked at my barn and gave me an estimate. Work commenced within 10 days and he finished up within a month. We agreed that first day that he would work around some other jobs so he was not at my site everyday but we also agreed he would be finished by a certain day and he beat that deadline by 10 days. The work he was doing with raising the timbers and pouring pilings sometimes took time before additional work could be done so he would inform me of the schedule and that I would nto be seeing them for a period of time. Communication was excellent through out the entire process with all questions and concerns being addressed. This process is nothing like building a structure from scratch; slow and easy is necessary when dealing with timbers that have shifted over long periods of time. I feel very fortuante to have located John and Josh and to have them breath new life into my barn.
Description of Work: I hired Yost Barns to structually shore up my timber frame barn that was built pre 1900. At the time the barn was built the primary posts were placed on boulders as foundation blocks. through the years and due to a couple of structural modifications the integrity of some of the supports had given way and the barn was leaning and sagging in areas. John Yost and his very competent nephew, Josh (that grew up helping his Uncle with this type of repairs) did a very admirable job of securing a future for a great old structure. In the loft of the barn they used cabling and turnbuckles to bring the barn back together. On the main level they sistered posts next to the original posts after putting in foundation piers. They jacked and pulled in the rear corners where the post had moved and settled, bringing the barn much closer to square. While this is not a purist way to restore a timber frame structure it does secure a beautiful timber frame structure so that it can remain useful for many years to come in a cost effective manner. The work performed should enable the structure to still be standing for people to see the amazing building prowless of our ancestors for many years to come.

We were totally satisfied from start to finish!
Description of Work: Two years ago we were very fortunate to have our horse barn built by John Yost. It was a great experience and we now know that we made an excellent decision to have John do the work for us. Please note that we did not know John prior to our building experience. It all began when we found John's advertisement on Craig's List and made a phone call after reading his information. W liked John's straight talk, his explanation of how he built barns, and his quick response in sending us drawings, prices, and how he would actually construct the barn. After talking with other builders and trying to decide on a reliable builder who was experienced and had knowledge of proper barn construction, we chose John Yost. Now, after two years, we have four stalls and a run-in for our horses. We have also added a loft with stairs. From time to time we have asked John to help us with the additional add-on projects and he has always done an excellent job with which we have great pride in the results. Our barn is a top quality barn and is exactly what we wanted. Everyone who visits our barn has been impressed with the beauty and the quality of our barn. Because of our great experience with building our barn and our total satisfaction, we highly recommend that you choose John Yost to build your barn. We have found John Yost to be experienced, knowledgeable, reliable, and honest. Of all of our building projects over the past thirty years, our building experience with John Yost has been the smoothest, the most enjoyable, and has resulted in the most satisfaction, and all at a great price. We thank John Yost for an excellent job! We hope you will let him do the same for you! Sincerely, Jim and Susan Kennedy
