Tegrey Family of Coatings inc.

We contacted Tegrays to get an estimate on power wash our house. The quote seemed fair but I inquired about a discount based on their advertisement in a local paper. He indicated he could not honor that particular discount. I told him we needed to think about it and we weould call him back. We called the next day to ok the job, and set a time when Mr. Tegray informed us we were not a "good fit" for his business. I have no idea what he menat, but it seemed very strange. We have done business with numerous contractors in the area, and have never had any problems. Sounds a little weird to me.

I needed to have some interior painting done, so I called five different painter to get estimates. Tegrey was the second painter I interviewed. He arrived on time with his wife whom he said would doing the painting. When I told him I was a member of Angie's List, he immediately dissed Angie's List which set off alarm bells in my head. He said that people paid to be on that list, and he had so much work he did not even have to advertise ( I found him in a community coupon booklet). He could not produce a copy of his workmen's comp or his liability insurance although he said he had both, he was overbearing and extremely boastful, and his price was five hundred dollars more than his nearest competitor. I did not hire him.

Have you ever been fired from a contractor? I have.... read more. Very unplesant experience.I had this gentleman come to my home this morning to give me an estimate. I found his number in the North Canton Community savings magazine. He came out to my home, very punctual- 10 minutes early- I like that. To precurser this story- I'm pregnant, and am unable to do the painting jobs myself. We talked outside, and went inside to look at the job we had to do. He gave me a good idea as to what he could do in both rooms...... We started talking about what types of paint we can use. I asked him if he would use the type of paint I preffered, he said no. I didn't argue with him, just told him that the paint I have used in the house was Bear Premium plus, and that I would be willing to purchase it, and he could paint with it.He said he does NOT do this and that this is horrible paint, ect ect. I didn't think much of it, just said "I've had really good luck with it so far, and like it." Next, I asked him if he was a member of Angies list and or servicemagic, both services I use. With both of these services (Angies list the most) I have found WONDERFUL contractors, who do the jobs beautifuly, and are very easy to work with. He was VERY put off by this, stating how Angies list is a crock and " I can't believe you pay to find refferals" I expalined to him I really like Angies list because I have found great people, and feel the reviews are extremely helpful. He stated "how many of these do you think are real?" Later in the conversation he stated "I've actually fired customers before." He explained that he did this because they wanted to be home when he was working- and that those people had a previous bad experience with another contractor. I decided I was willing to keep him in the running, because he seemed to know what he was talking about, and punctuality and effeciency seemed to be his thing- both things I really value in a conractor. I called him later in the day to ask if the coupon that was offered in the North Canton Community was applicapable to my work. He said "I don't think that we will work out and that we are a good fit together" I asked him why and he stated that because I thought Bear Premium Plus paint was good paint, and that I was a supporter of Angies list and Service Magic, that I was not someone he was willing to work with. I pleaded with him on the phone (I'm not sure why) stating "Sir, I'm a very nice person, and have had very good relationships with all my conractors, which was close to 15,000$ worth of work and have only ever had one bad experience" (like I should have been the one appologizing?!) Again he refused to have me as a customer. So my take on all this..... 1. This guy doesn't know what he is doing, and realizes that because I use Angies list and Service Magic, I could potentially report his poor work or 2. He doesn't want work in a terrible economy Either way- if you use this company- make sure you don't have an opinion, and keep your mouth shut about Angies list.
