Everything went fine. They were able to design a very open combined kitchen and dining room in a very small home. They were able to start earlier than expected and they were done in the stated time. Everything went smoothly and the builder, John did a wonderful job. He kept us informed about anything that might affect us: cutting off the water or electricity since we were both around a lot during the construction. We also had 4 cats and a dog and we all lived in the living room and bedroom and used the basement for a kitchen. John made things much less stressful!

The office staff is pleasant to get along with. They had some good ideas on remodels. They were constantly going out to get materials and re-order things. The plumbing work was good. The electrical work needed help. The carpentry work they had to redo some but knew how to fix. They did a good job on the finishing work. The plaster and painting was done well. They left the area pretty much clean one the inside but on they deck they left some cutting scraps.
Description of Work: I had a full kitchen remodel.
I would STRONGLY DISCOURAGE anyone from choosing Hughes for a remodeling project. The company was established in 1948 and had no complaints with the BBB until after it was sold to the current owner in 2004. It will be too hard to relay the full scope of just how awful our experience was with Hughes, but I will provide a few of the details. We had our kitchen, laundry, 1/2 bath and wet bar remodeled with them this past year. We were told that our project would take about 5-7 weeks. Work was started in our home September 29, 2013 and we finally received the last item for completion nearly 14 months later! We had a carpenter in our home five days a week for nearly 5 months. All four of the rooms were measured incorrectly. Two pullout cabinets that were supposed to be in the kitchen didn?t fit and had to be returned. The carpenter had to cut out part of the molding around our bathroom door so the counter top would fit on the vanity that was measured too big. The cabinet in the laundry room that was also measured too big and was delivered to my home SIX times before it was finally right. They had to drywall over part of a glass block window in our basement to create more ?wall? for the wet bar cabinet that was measured and ordered too large for the space. This is a very small part of a very long list of things that were done incorrectly. We paid a 30% ($12,858) down payment nearly 6 months before our project began. We then paid another 30% (12,333) on the day the remodel finally began. Yet, at the start of the job, the company had not purchased anything other than cabinets for the project. No fixtures, no trim, no paint, no faucets, no sinks, no counters, no hardware, no tile, no windows, no backsplash, etc, etc. The the project was repeatedly stalled while we waited for items to be ordered. I believe Hughes is so financially troubled that they are resorting to pyramid schemes, using down payments from upcoming jobs to pay for current or prior jobs. Like all such pyramid schemes, it will eventually come crashing down. Hughes? website states that they do not use subcontractors. In February of 2014, before our remodel was completed, we were threatened with a lien on our home from Shand enterprises, the subcontractor that Hughes used for our counters. We paid Hughes $12,334 (our third 30% payment,) the very day that the counters were installed back in November of 2013 but Hughes never paid the $5,182 that they owed the subcontractor for the counters. In order to avoid a lien on our home, we had to directly pay the subcontractor $3,727 of the final $5,227 payment we had for Hughes. Finally, I would like to point out that the owner (president) and his son (the manager) both claim to be designers. Neither has any education in design. The son has a bachelor?s degree in business administration/management, and the owner (father) worked for a cabinet maker while he was in his 20?s. He then worked in sales at Nickles bakery until he purchased Hughes in 2004. I hope this review saves someone from making the same mistake we did when we chose to hire Hughes Kitchens and Bath.

This review was from a former customer, but it is the product of a disgruntled former employee that lied to the customer and no matter what is said they have their opinion. We welcome and insist on checking our references, past and current. We let our reputation speak for itself. In this industry people make mistakes and things can go wrong. We here at Hughes Kitchens and Bath understand that and we ALWAYS make it right. We made it right for this homeowner and they are enjoying a beautiful kitchen. And after all we did for them to make a personal attack against me because I worked 2 jobs to raise my family when I was younger is surprising.

After now spending a good bit of money to correct the numerous mistakes, I am not pleased at all. Some of the mistakes I knew about but some have been discovered by accident. Disappointing that anyone would put forth such poor effort. The quality of the work was mostly acceptable but it required 7 months from the beginning of the project until it was completed. The workers were good. The design and the designer were good. The execution of the job took way too long--6 months without a working kitchen. There was a complete kitchen remodel that included a powder room and an upstairs full bath remodel. A lot of work with mostly one person working at a time. Communication between us and the company was poor as we felt ignored and that no one was managing our project.

We remodeled almost the entire 1st floor. along with removing walls, windows, and doors. We installed new wood flooring, and re sanded their existing floor.Supplied and installed beautiful 100% custom built cabinets with a soapstone counter top. The job was done on time and in budget. They wanted it done in 3 months, which was completely impossible. We worked well together and had a constant flow of communication from the lead carpenter to the homeowner. They did not wont to communicate with him they wanted to talk to me for all the questions, and since I wasn't on the job myself I couldn't answer their questions until I talked to the lead. I guess I didn't flow quick enough.

From Nov. 2012 until March 2013 they kept coming in and measuring my bathroom. That is all that was done. They wanted to tear my hallway out so that they could make room for the bathtub. Since my bathroom is quite small, to put the walk-in tub in, it was going to make such a mess of my home. Not to mention, I wouldn't have had any room to turn around the tub would be so big. I just wish I would not have given them the $4000.00. They then wanted me to pay the shipping charge for the tub, as they said it was the way. But then the gentleman I talked to last that was at the house, said that the tub had not even been ordered. Then when I said I didn't want to move forward with the mess that would have to be made to my house to complete the project, their language toward me and everything changed. They were not as nice as they were before.
Description of Work: All they did was measuring.

I am very sorry about this situation. Yes we measured, twice, we always do. We explained in detail to her what we had to do to get what she wanted. She was happy and excited about it. But the truth of the matter was we was ready to start the job in March of 2013, the second installment for the start of the job ,which is in the contract, was due. Her children told her then she shouldn't do the bathroom remodel and save her money and she decided to not go through with the remodel. She called and said she wanted to cancel the project. I told her we could relieve her of her contract with us but I would not refund the monies paid. At that point we had more invested in her project than the $4,000.00 that she has paid. The tub cost alone more than that let alone all the other material we had for the project. We was ready to start and had the material staged. I wanted to then and still would do the project for her but the only thing she wanted at that point was a total refund which could not be done considering what we had invested into her project for her. I will state it for the record. I will do this remodel for her as per our original agreement as I have always wanted to and do what she originally asked me to and we both signed an agreement to do.

My husband and I are very easy to get along with and regret having to write a negative review, but we really feel others should know what they are getting into when contracting work with Hughes Kitchen and Bath. We signed a contract with Hughes in November 2012 with the understanding that the work would begin in February, 2013. Work began in May, 2013 after several calls to Hughes to find out when the work would begin. We were not in a huge hurry, but 3 months late was a bit much. They were very unresponsive when we called to inquire when work would begin. Should have been the first sign that we were making a mistake, but we had already placed a 1/3 deposit and wanted the work completed. Once started, the work progressed very slowly. After 3 weeks, we still had no working shower, no sink, no floor. The Bathroom door was still sitting against a wall in our bedroom as was the toilet. Please keep in mind that we were told the entire project would take 2 weeks and at no time were we told items were on back order until we called to find out what was taking so long. It is a small bathroom and we were not having it redesigned, only the pieces replaced. This was the only working shower in our home and the only way we got the shower working was to call and complain to anyone we could get to listen. Finally, they showed up on Friday night of the 3rd week and hooked up the shower and provided a shower rod and curtain. You cannot imagine our delight to shower in our own home for the first time in 3 weeks, then our horror when our 2nd floor shower now leaked into our basement and took 3 more attempts to fix it before it actually worked without leaking. We were told the shower door and other items were on back order, but the entire bathroom would be complete by the end of the 5th week. At the end of the 5th week, we were told, OOPS, the wrong shower door was sent from the manufacturer, it will be 2 more weeks before that is resolved. Finally, we have our bathroom, however, water still seeps out from the bottom of the shower door. We called and spoke with Dave who indicated that the door probably needs reset, but to date, we have had no response. I have never dealt with a company with worse communication. I did speak with the owner, Mike Pierce, who I must say was very nice, but really needs to look at the type of service being provided to his customers. He is clearly out of touch. I suggest he hire someone to be in charge of customer service. He offered several reason for the delays, none of which were my problem. Since we complained about our shower door seeping, we received a call from Hughes asking that we set up a final inspection where they will come out and inspect the final work and discuss our warranties for the products purchased. My husband asked why they would want to do a final inspection prior to the work being complete, but was told that would be handled by a different area of the company...go figure. There were 2 bright spots to our experience with Hughes. Ultimately, the end result (with the exception of the shower door still leaking), is what we were looking for. Shane our installer was professional and did a wonderful job. Also, I wish I knew her name, but the woman who answers the phones at Hughes was also very professional and showed us empathy. I'm certain, she dreaded seeing our number show up on Caller ID but was always able to calm me down.

I truly understand their concerns. That is why I do the final inspections myself. It started with a a false promise from a former employee. We would have been done in 3 weeks. They were told 2. and yes there was delays. Our suppliers dropped the ball twice. It is unfortunate. I did everything I possibly could do. In the end it is beautiful.

They were perfect. Hughes regutted the entire bathroom. They placed new drywall, installed new sinks, tubs, and toilets, and they also built him a custom cabinet.
Description of Work: I had them remodel my father's bathroom after it had flooded by a toilet that didn't stop running. They come in every six months for further inspections and will be doing some minor repairs, like fixing some screws in the drywall, here shortly.

12DEC2012 Customer Comments Re: the Provider's Response- Hughes' response to our review only further demonstrates the company's disconnect with their customers, employees and vendors. Mr Pierce's cited 'case in point' of our tile selection shutting down the job for a month fails to mention one fact. The backsplash was deleted from the contract and was not installed by Hughes. We did not have confidence in their ability to install it properly and as such we removed it from their scope of work. At no time did the backsplash cause a halt to any of Hughes' work. Our major concern was the electrical work performed by Hughes' unlicensed workers and as a result we asked for an inspection by a licensed electrical contractor. Pierce's so called 'big issue' was not a change we desired, it was a requirement to switch to low voltage LED and direct connect lighting in order to meet electrical code. Mr Pierce states his work met code. IT DID NOT. Xenon lighting, as per our contract, was never installed by Hughes. Instead they substituted halogen puck lights under the upper cabinets by cutting off the plugs and making a splice pushed behind the drywall. They installed rope lighting at the toe kick, again making high voltage splices under the cabinets. In no jurisdiction would this pass code and we insisted it be corrected. Further it took the licensed electrician over two hours to straighten up the electric panel. The 'extra' $700, Pierce called 'not worth the argument', was just to repair work previously done by Hughes....which by the way Pierce asked us to pay directly to the electrician. We at no time ever faulted workers assigned to our job for poor performance. They always worked to their ability. It was Pierce who forced his employees to attempt work beyond their skill set, and without adequate support. He turned them into 'handymen'. Now let's talk money. Two thirds of the money due for our job was paid before any work had even started, with the final third, per our contract, due upon completion. Pierce does not mention that we made extra payments all along toward that final third , prior to all work being finished, just so that Hughes could continue our job. What Mr Pierce doesn't seem to understand is that in order to be paid you have to actually 'complete' the work you have contracted to perform. We knew Pierce was having dificulty paying his vendors. We insisted on release forms from all our subcontractors confirming that they had indeed been paid in full and had no claim against us prior to making our final payment of $8600. The one week delay in final payment cited by Pierce was the length of time it took him to supply these releases. Once we had releases in our possession, our check for the remaining balance was hand delivered to Hughes within 24 hours. Mr Pierce if you really want to know what we 'took offense to' here are a few examples: 1. Having your employees tell us that they didn't receive a paycheck on Friday and having to offer to pay them personally in the hope that they would continue our job. 2. Having you tell us that you've written post dated checks to vendors and insisting that you needed more money from us in order to get our work completed. 3. Never having a supervisor or project manager at any time view our job. 4. Incompentent and untruthfull management who bottom line did not do right by their customers, employees, or vendors. Whatever this company was in the past that earned high marks on Angies' list....it is no more. 27NOV2012 Customer's Initial Review - The Quote - We recently had Hughes Kitchens and Bath remodel parts of the lower level of our home, including the kitchen, laundry room, powder room and parts of our dining room. Beyond just replacing the kitchen cabinets, the job required structural as well as plumbing and electrical work. We had several remodeling firms in to look a the job for ideas and suggestions as limited space and a bay window in the kitchen presented problems to using standard cabinets. We chose Hughes not on price alone but because they offered us custom built cabinets to fit our unique space. Although we had agreed verbally with Hughes as to the price and scope of the work, we asked for a written contract describing in detail how and what work would be done. It took us more than a month and the rejection of multiple contract drafts from Hughes as being too vague before we eventually signed what we still felt was not as detailed a contract as it could have been. Hughes was to perform specific parts of the remodel and we were contracting directly with other sub contractors for the remaining parts. Total cost of the project was in excess of $65,000.00. Hughes portion was $43,000.00 with 1/3 down at the time of signing the contract, 1/3 due at start of job and final 1/3 due upon conpletion of all work. Hughes quoted the remodel time to be 4 weeks. Work begins - Approximately two months after signing the contract, Hughes set a start date and asked for and was paid the second third of the contracted price. They sent a rough carpenter and helper to do the demo with a copy of the contract in hand, but without a supervisor to explain the scope of the work, and with the contract being so vague, the workers had to rely on constant direction from us as to the work to be completed. As the work progressed we expected to see additional licensed workers from Hughes to perform the electrical and plumbing work. We thought we had hired a 'company' with employees skilled in different areas of a remodel, what we got was one handyman with an occasional helper trying to accomplish a major renovation. Work progressed but not in any logical order, again with no supervision or direction from management at Hughes. They attempted to measure for the counter tops before the cabinets were permanently installed. Cabinets were installed prior to drywall work being completed. Coordination with their vendors was poor and on several occasions we had to insist work be halted in order for a logical progression of the job. Our handyman installed our beautiful custom cabinets by himself causing damage to many and before the drywall work was even complete. Built in appliances, that required two people to properly install were installed by one person. The Finish line - After four months the project was far behind schedule. At no time did we complain to Hughes as to the extended time the project was taking as some delay was at our request in the hope of minimizing damage and ending up with a quality result. At this point Hughes wanted to collect their final payment and was now rushing to complete the job. Our 'handyman' was sent to the house with three workers in an attempt to quickly complete the project. In a three day frenzy to complete drywall and painting they caused so much damage it would take an additional two weeks to repair. Drywall compound and paint were all over the beautiful oak trim in the house. Repaired walls were never sanded before they had the final coat of paint applied. The owner himself, Mike Pierce, upon viewing the work called it 'appalling'. At this point a 'new handyman' was assigned to finish the job. He promised to correct what he could. The 'new handyman's' 2 day estimate to complete the job turned into two more weeks as he pulled off workwork and resanded all the kitchen walls in an attempt to correct all the problems. Request for Final Payment - With the job now marginally complete, a request was made by Hughes for final payment. At this point we asked for signed releases from the cabinet maker and counter top supplier showing they had been paid, and an inspection by a licensed electrician to ensure the work performed by Hughes, handyman met code. Releases were supplied by Hughes, but the electrical inspection revealed some deficiencies and generally sloppy work. Hughes agreed to pay for correction of the electrical issues by an independent electrical contractor. Summary - From the beginning experience with the quoting process, we knew problems would follow. Asking us to sign a vague and incomplete contract we felt was an attempt to inflate the costs through 'change orders' which we challenged through out the entire project. We were specific as to the work to be performed by Hughes and any so called 'changes' were the result of problems Hughes either created themselves or did not account for in their quote. We incorrectly assumed that electrical and plumbing work would be done by licensed contractors, not by inexperienced employees. Drywall and paint was substandard. We do not fault Hughes employees, as they always attempted to do the best of their abilty and always kept work areas as clean as possible. Our complaint is with management who asked more from their employees then they were qualiified to perform and who provided absolutely no supervision. A professional and quality job is one that is done right the first time. Agreeing to correct mistakes after the fact only demonstrated Hughes inabilty to perform satisfactorily. Until Hughes management corrects their entire process from generating a complete and fully detailed proposal to the final cleanup and walk through at the end, we are unable to recommend this company. The quality of the work they performed in our remodel unfortunately is not at the level of the original quality in our home. We will spend the next year continuing to correct items that are subpar. We also question the financial stability of the company due to several comments made to us by employees and Mike Pierce himself. Our many thanks to EJ Hoffman for our custom cabinets, Canton Cut Stone for our granite countertops and Williams Hardwood Flooring. Without them our project would never have turned out as well as it did.

You know the funny thing about this is that we bent over on everything possible to make them happy. Every person’s decision making processes are different and that is fine but with these clients every decision was monumental and they could not make up their minds on what they wanted. Case and point we had to shut the job down for over a month so they could finalize their decision on the back splash. So yes the job when over and there was vagueness in the contract because that is what they wanted. They wanted freedom choose some things as the job progressed, and every decision was a long process which stopped the job. I did inspect the drywall towards the end of the project and did not like it so I had it repaired correctly as the home owner said and it is great now. Home owner asked for an inspection other than mine to which is not ever an issue. We had an electrician inspect everything and it was good and passed as expected. The big issue in reality was that the home owner wanted to change their under cabinet lighting and toe kick lighting. They wanted to go from xenon to LED. The electrician told me their intentions, and for the $700 extra it cost me it wasn’t worth an argument. I don’t like the insults towards our master craftsman “handyman” as they called them. They performed an absolutely beautiful job for them. At the end I asked to be paid and they wanted to wait another week after completion to pay. I said I have to pay my bills I would appreciate you paying yours. I guess they took offence to that.

We have not entered into contract with them. The person that we have been working with hasn't been too dependable. He stopped at our house and was going to show us something and he couldn't open the computer. He came back the next day and he didn't have his computer with him. Its been kind of spotty and haven't been real thrilled with how its went so far. I think its quite high. If I have to give a grade it would be a C rating on that. Responsiveness and punctuality has not been good so I give them a C for that also. I will consider using them.
Description of Work: I used Hughes Kitchens and Bath. We had some preliminary work with them. We need some remodeling of our kitchen and bath done. They came out about 2 weeks ago and the total was like 30,000.00. It was kind of expensive we thought so we are trying to negotiate with them and we also are looking at another company. They were going to put down new tile on the floor, heating element under the tile,a stainless, glass enclosed shower, remove the cabinetry and the sinks that are there now and replace with granite, under mount sinks, new tile around the existing tub and a ceiling up above rather then just having a board ceiling.

This truly is one of the great things about Angie’s List that I like; you get real time truthful feedback on your company and how we are performing. I had a great conversation with this client and we addressed every one of their concerns and I made the necessary changes that needed to be made. We as a company have to take every call, every project, and every client as our only one. And along with that the size of a project makes no effect or impact on how we handle a project or client. I have always taken jobs personally and thoroughly enjoy working with clients and always promise to never get “too busy” for any one. We have adjusted and I gave them my sincere apology We will work together in the future

Hughes worked with me even though I had already bought the vanity, mirror, tile, toilet and tub. I have an older home, and previous renovations were not done properly. We stripped the bathroom down to the floor joists and bare walls. Hughes enclosed a window in the bathtub area, and finished the walls, plumbing installations and wiring. Their workers were professional, friendly, prompt and clean. I came home to a clean work area each day.I plan to use them again for kitchen renovations in the very near future. I plan to use them again for kitchen renovations in the very near future.
Description of Work: Hughes installed all the bathroom plumbing, tub and sink, supplied the fixtures for both, and updated the wiring from the bathroom to the electrical box. They installed new wallboard over my dated and ugly plaster walls, installed new subflooring and floor tile. They closed off an unused window that was making the bathtub area exposed and subject to water damage. They ordered and installed a tub surround and matching sink. Painted the walls and ceiling, and installed all lighting, new electrical plugs and switches.

The gentleman that came out to house to do the repair work showed up exactly when he said he would and he brought a tin of cookies with him as a thank you for choosing them to do our work. He was professional and courteous the entire time he was in my home and I never felt uncomfortable having him there. He had to remove the shower door and the first row and a half of tile around the base of the shower, insert the new pan and then retile and grout the wall, then replace the shower door. This process took several days and he even went and matched the tile that we had originally gotten from another store. While he was finishing up he repainted the one or two small scrapes that he'd caused putting the shower pan in and even got a few spots that my husband had been meaning to get to but had never seemd to get to. We were very satisfied with his work and would call and use them and him again.
Description of Work: We needed to replace the bottom of the shower that had cracked and was leaking. This was the second time we'd made the replacement and we wanted something that would last as opposed to something that could possibly crack again. I called Hughes Kitchens and Baths and had them come out for an estimate. I had also called 2 other contractors and I liked the professionalism that came with the gentleman from Hughes Kitchens and Baths. We had to postpone the replacement, but once we called and got put on the list, it was about a month until they got to us. I went to their store and chose a cultured marble color that would go well with the exsisting tile and they custom made a shower pan for our shower.

Anything that could have gone wrong did. From start to finish, it was one miscommunication and mistake after another. We went with Hughes over another company because it seemed we would get more for our money. And we did. In headaches and frustration. After our initial meetings, we gave our down payment and didn't hear a word from them for several months. Finally, after inquiring, stopping into the office, and being firm, we were given a start date. In the process, our tile floor was laid crooked, they lost the name/color of our floor selections, we were told it would be finished by a certain time and it was NOT, our granite selection was sold to someone else, and our project manager lied repeatedly to us. There was zero communication and no follow-through unless we hovered like helicopters. The owner did offer to rip out our floor and lay the tile again, but we had to become incredibly irate before anyone was willing to look at the problem and take us seriously. It seemed as though mistakes on their part always constituted an emergency on our part. We had to leave work early and run around to make selections again because our original selections had been lost or sold to someone else. We were compensated in the end, but it was nothing compared to the mistakes they never should have made in the first place.
Description of Work: We had an entire kitchen remodeled to include new floors, all new cabinets, new countertops, and appliances.

We have been blessed with growth this year. And because we do not use subcontractors we could not hit out target start date. So yes we were late in starting. As for the flooring issue, yes the floor was laid slightly crooked. To the naked eye it is unnoticeable, but still in the 30+ foot run it is crooked. As the homeowner stated themselves, I said I was going to replace it at a 7 thousand dollar expense to me. They said no one will see it and they love it and they do NOT want it replaced. I told them to think about it over the weekend and let me know on Monday because I am not willing to except it. On Monday they stated again that they do love the floor and they do not want it replaced. As for the lack of communication, the lying, and the lost selections, we had everything in our showroom and documented; from the selections, the daily communications and emails. I am truly shocked at this and I feel our reputation speaks for itself And as for your request for us to remodel your bathrooms…I respectfully decline on your offer

The experience was very positive beginning with the first visit to our house by a Hughes representative, followed by a meeting at their showroom a week later to review the estimate. Once we made a decision to proceed, we had two more meetings at their showroom to make final selections of fixtures, materials, colors, etc. Then they made a second pre-construction visit to our house to make final detailed measurements. They told us up front that they were scheduling work at least 90 days out, and we were fine with that. Once the work began, it was all performed by a Hughes employee who came every day for two weeks until the job was finished. He did everything himself, except for a few times when a second person came to help. The quality of the work was excellent, especially the attention to detail, and the workers were professional and courteous. We were also impressed with how they covered the stairway and hallway leading to the bathroom, plus their daily clean-up. We highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Remodeled a bathroom built in 1971 as follows: removed bathtub and wall tiles and replaced with 36" wide shower stall having cultured marble walls and hinged glass door; installed custom-built linen cabinet next to shower stall in the space that remained from the original tub length; replaced and repositioned exhaust fan, plus vented it directly to roof instead of into confined attic space; new toilet and new floor, including new baseboard. Did not replace vanity or faucet, since these were in very good shape (faucet, supply lines and drain pipe and recently been replaced prior to this job). Hughes primed all new drywall and trim, but we had agreed to complete the painting ourselves.

Nothing was done, just had them come for an estimate. As a reply back to your comment....I just logged into Angies list today....You did not have a short time frame told to you to fix it...you told my husband you did not do just dry wall, and did not recommend a dry waller....I am suprised at your response...
Description of Work: The company did not want to deal with us. We had someone come out to look at our ceiling in our bathroom, because when I called I could get no answer if they did something like this. Anyway, when the gentleman came out, he pretty much did not want to deal with us. I was not there, but according to my husband, he was acting as if we could not afford their services, just because we do not live in a elaborate home does not mean we can not afford to have our home remodeled. Also, the lady I made the appointment said they could do dry wall, and he said they don't do this....so we could have saved everyone's time and energy. If they are going to be all about appearance, I don't think I will deal with them in the future. Thank you!

We try always to give our best on every appointment. The size of a project makes no difference to us. The time frame of a project is where the issue was. When we meet with clients we will be honest if we know we cannot fit their need. The home owner needed the work done pretty quickly and we knew with our lead time of 3 months we could not get to it in a timely manner. So we recommended a very good drywaller that could fit their need. I am surprised at this response since all we tried to do was help.

We contracted with Hughes Kitchen and Bath in June, 2011, but elected not to start the actual work before January, 2012. Let me say that the job was not without a few glitches. First, despite being inspected by three different estimators, it turned out that the dividing wall was indeed a load-bearing wall, which necessitated construction of a ceiling beam. Not only that, but we were surprised to find a heating duct running through it, which necessitated reconstructing a part of the wall and slightly reconfiguring the cabinets. Secondly, the electrical wiring gave them fits, as apparently the wiring did not follow the usual pattern, but criss-crossed the kitchen seemingly at random. That being said, our team, Chris and Matt, couldn't have been better. They arrived each day when they said they would, kept me informed every step of the way, and cleaned up very carefully every day before they left. Matt made sure that each product was what I had ordered, and that I understood and approved of how it would be installed. When the textured ceiling was not what I wanted, Chris immediately redid it. He also took extra pains to install the shelves in my adjoining laundry room, and to secure my washing machine hose to the laundry tub to prevent leaks. He even used his truck to plow the driveway when it snowed! At the end of the project, Chris gave me a folder that his wife had thoughtfully set up, complete with tabs, of all the warranties and instruction/care manuals for the appliances, flooring, etc. When Matt ordered veneer for the beam, the lumber yard sent the wrong thing, so he went to the lumber yard himself and selected oak stock, cut, stained and constructed his own veneer! My new kitchen is fabulous! Despite all the dust, the noise, the inconvenience, and the time my kitchen was out of commission, I would do it all over again, as long as Hughes Kitchens did the work. Well, maybe the estimate of our timeline was wildly optimistic, but I'll let it slide!
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel. Demolition of cabinetry, removal of dividing wall and flooring. Replaced sliding patio door, installed new vinyl tile floor and new cabinets. Relocated appliances. Constructed ceiling beam, countertops and kitchen island. Installed new lighting. Repaired and re-textured ceiling. Performed all requisite plumbing, electrical, staining and painting.

Hughes removed the bathtub and shower module. They enlarged and tiled the complete shower surround. They also relocated the commode, installed a fan/light combo, removed the existing tile floor and bead board and installed a new tile floor and installed a 4' high ceramic wall around the entire room. They removed the pedestal sink and installed a 60" vanity with two sinks. They installed towel bars, a paper holder, a robe hook and a towel ring as well as two lights and two mirrors that we supplied. Each day John, who did the work, cleaned up before he left. He was also very good in asking what we wanted before he did anything new and was very helpful in explaining things. He is definitely a master craftsman who takes great pride in his work. We signed the contract on May 23, 2011 and were told that it would be about 3 months before the work would start. The work started November 14, 2011 and was completed on January 20, 2012, except for the shower door which was installed on January 26th. There were three holidays - Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years - during this time and we also had out of town guests and asked John not to come three days. They are very busy and they were up front with us about that, so you have to be patient. I do think that a call after a certain period of time to let you know how you are progressing on the list would be helpful. We did have a few dates that we knew we would be out of town and gave them to Mike Moon, our salesperson, which could also have delayed our starting time. Having Mike Pierce, the owner, come to the house to give the work a final inspection and explain the warranty was a very nice touch. We are very pleased with the way the bathroom turned out - it is exactly as we envisioned it. We would definitely use Hughes Kitchen and Bath again.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of the master bathroom.

My name is Chris, the salesperson referred to in this review. I have spoken with the member since the review was posted to explain that attempts were made to schedule a showroom appointment. After our conversation, I realized a better effort on my part should have been made. I take full responsibility for the negative feedback and assure you this is not normal practice with Hughes Kitchens & Bath. As a proud Hughes employee, I take pride in treating every client with fairness and respect. This has resulted in a change in my scheduling process that should eliminate this from happening in the future. In the end, the member let me know that when they are ready to remodel their kitchen, he would give us a call.
