Description of Work: We originally contracted with a different contractor in mid-April 2010 to remodel and add on to our existing deck (14’x18’ existing with a 2nd lower tier addition that’d bring the perimeter to 24’x26’) with Timbertech material. The contracted cost for the job was $8,254. The original contractor walked off the job 2 days prior to our contracted completion date with nearly $5,000 of our money in hand. Only a fraction of the job had been completed; and 80% of what was completed was done incorrectly and not to code. The deck was completely unsafe and unusable in the condition in which it was left. Over the course of the next month I had contacted ~20 contractors to give me estimates to fix contractor #1’s errors and proceed with the deck we originally contracted for. These estimates were from reputable local companies and ranged from $16,500-$29,000+. It was obvious everybody was trying to take advantage of our situation. Already out nearly $5,000; we didn’t have an extra $16-$30k lying around – but we needed to do something because we had an unusable deck (and we have two 70-pound dogs). A local Timbertech retailer gave me Dave Dowden’s information indicating he was a “good guy” who did “good work”. When I asked the retailer if he (the retailer) would put his name on the line for Dave, he indicated he would. So I called Dave and scheduled an onsite visit. From the first time Dave came onsite to discuss things with us we knew we’d found someone to finish the job. He was overwhelmingly professional, cordial and was sincerely empathetic to our situation. Dave was adamant he’d be able to get us the deck we wanted at the fairest price possible.
