We hired G.R. Warden Construction to do the framing and electrical work as described above. We had lined up a different contractor for the finish work including the installation of drywall and the and quot;muddingand quot; of the drywall. But, on the day before Mr. Warden was due to arrive, the drywall person cancelled and suggested we have Warden do it. I called Mr. Warden and asked if he do do the additional work. He agreed, but indicated it may take some time for an appointment to open up as he was booked for the immediate future. I accepted that response. Mr. Warden and his assistant arrived for work the next day. on time, and did the framing and electrical work as expected. I have no qualms with the quality of his work. When he completed the work I asked about drywall work. He again told me that he could not do it immediately and would and quot;be in touchand quot; but gave no specific indication of when he could return. I offered to pay Mr. Warden for the time and materials on the work he had completed so far. He told me that it was not necessary. He said that I could pay him when he came back and completed the work. This suggested to me that it would only be a matter of days or perhaps a week or two until he could free up time to do the drywall job. That was the last time that I saw Mr. Warden. I contacted and spoke with Mr. Warden on the phone on the following dates. In each call he told me that he still did not have time to come back and would call me when he could. 4/26, 5/3, 5/9, 5/14This was now nearly a full month after the initial work had been performed. I received an invoice from Mr. Warden on about 6/22 dated 6/19. This was a full 5 weeks after our last converstation and 8-9 weeks after the work had begun. Mr. Warden did not call me nor notify me that the monies would now be due and that he would not be doing the drywall work. But, given the time that had gone by, I decided I could not count on Mr. Warden to fulfill his promise. I found someone else to do the drywall project. On July 6th I received a second invoice. This one was dated 7/5 and included 1.5% interest. This date was immediately following our area being hit by a tornado. I had incurred unexpected expenses related to the storm and my automobile. I made plans to pay the bill as soon as I received my next paycheck. On 7/13 Mr. Warden called me and asked me about the invoice. He was angry. I told him that I would pay him the following week when I got paid. I expressed my dissatisfaction with Mr. Warden's follow-through regarding the drywall and that I felt charging interest on these monies was inappropriate given that he had told me that it would not be due until he completed the drywall project. Mr. Warden was rude and unprofessional. He accused me of never having planned to pay the bill. He said he had and quot;done me a favorand quot; when he did the electrical work on top of the framing work. (I don't know where that complaint was rooted as the electrical work was always part of the work that Mr. Warden had been hired to perform). I ended the call saying I would pay him as soon as I had been paid which would be approximately one week. In summary, I found the quality of the work that Mr. Warden performed to be of excellent quality. But, his professionalism and customer service skills were well below par. He should not have agreed to do the drywall project if he was not going to make any real effort to come back. He certainly should not have treated me like a bum regarding payment after the lengthy delay that he had caused me. Incidentally, I delivered a certified check for the original amount the day after he called me. I did not pay the interest and I would not hire him again.
