Herb's Painting Inc

This will be the third time we have hired Herb. On previous engagements Herb and his team first power washed the house to ensure a clean surface as the house has aluminum siding. Then they spray painted with their proprietary paint mix and hand painted the porch railings, front door and house trim. We were and are very pleased with the quality work completed on time and on budget. Well worth the investment.

Herb was very confident in his abilities when he came out to estimate the project. His demeanor and comments were obnoxious and unprofessional and made me feel uneasy, but we decided to hire Herb anyway because we were in a hurry. Big mistake. He did find a close stain match to our cabinets after several tries. On the day he was supposed to start, he showed up two hours later than he indicated he would be there. Our contractor told Herb that there was a small 12 inch piece of molding missing from the stack that he was supposed to stain. Herb refused to do any work until all pieces were present. He left, telling me to call him when all the peices would be there. I did, and we expected the missing piece to be delivered sometime on Monday and he can come over on Tuesday to do the work. Sunday morning at 9 a.m. I was awoken by a knock at my front door. It was Herb. I did not answer the door as I was not dressed appropriately. I was stunned he would just show up like that. Herb did not want to come back and finish the project at 11 on Tuesday, saying that was too late - he preferred working while I get ready for work in the morning - he just needed access to my garage. This, in addition to his showing up on my doorstep unannounced on Sunday morning, creeped me out. Because of this, and because I could not keep taking vacation days from work to suit Herb's schedule, I arranged to have all of the wood brought to my contractor's nearby workroom where Herb can go there at any time he wanted to finish the project. He agreed. He stained a few boards and never finished the work - I had to follow up with him 2 weeks later to learn that he did not like working there because he felt too cramped - he wanted access to my garage - and wanted to work when he wanted to work and did not want to accomodate any one else's schedule but his own. This man is very strange, rude and obnoxious. I had to terminate our relationship, I decided to pay him for the couple of boards he started and even gave him a few extra bucks just to be sure to get rid of him. I finished the work myself. BTW, the work area was not cramped at all as I finished the project there and the boards look beautiful. Working with Herb was a terrible experience and I would never reccommend him.

Herb's work was subcontracted out from another person doing some work for us. The builder of our home had mounted what looked like two large picture frames on either side of of the wall going up our foyer. The builder insted of nailing the moulding to the wall instead used glue .The original contracter removed them from the wall plus replaced a door on a half bath in the hallway. Herb had told our contractor that he would take care of all patching that need to be done prior to painting. This consisted of the area where the frames were and a section of the wall where the bathroom door was replaced and the frame needed to be replaced because the door fram and door needed to be shortened. Herb came in and inspected the job that needed to be done. While inspecting the job Herb insulted myself, my wife, and my home several times. Herb's people skills leave quite a bit to be desired. On the second day of work, Herb's workers informed me that that when Herb had stopped by to inspect things, that he told them to hurry up and get out of my house that the job was taking too long. He said that if he knew that it was going to be so much work he would have quoted a higher price. This after we had gone over everything that need to be done. Eveerything was explained to him and he wrote notes for all the work to be done properly. After leaving and the paint completely dry we noticed that the areas where the borders had were mounted on the wall shown through the paint. The cut-in between the wall and the ceiling trim was done poorly and some of the old paint was bleeding through and not all the patching that was supposed to be done was done. We have talked to people at the paint company of the type of paint that Herb used and we have been told that Herb used to wrong type of paint for the job that he was doing. We have tried to get Herb to come back to correct the work that his crew did, but get absolutely no response. I would never ever allow Herb back into my home to do work other than to fix the work that he has done so poorly.

He did a good job. His workers came out and were very efficient and got the work done quickly. We had a couple of concerns after they finished the work, so I called him and told him that we were not pleased with some things. He came out and fixed it right away and did not question anything and we were happy with that.

The crew arrived on time, power washed everything, taped and caulked, painted and cleaned up. The crew leader was polite and kept me informed. Herb stopped by at the end to make sure everything was okay. The pricing was very good.

Got the job done in three days - only needed me to be home while they painted the doors. Performed walk through when done - I asked them to touch-up a couple places and they did so no problem. They didn't put the flood lights back in the fixtures and didn't remove the light fixture in the back, they just covered it and painted around it - that type of attention to detail was missing. So those little things are why I won't rate them an "A". Just realize these guys are painters, not exterior decorators. But I'm satisfied with the paint job and the house looks good from the street.

Very satisfied. House looks great. Herb's Painting group was very professional; got the job finished in 1 day; cleaned up all material. Balance was due on completion.
